Sorry, haven't got around to testing it yet, if it's reported working by
someone else then it should be fine.

again for me to test.

>
No, it look like it's while reading chm file because trace is only for
htmlhelp..
The app crashes during help window creation (adding toolbar icons... to be
specific)
In function HH_AddToolbar in file (dlls/hhctrl.ocx/help.c) in line 578:
szBuf[dwLen + 2] = 0; /* Double-null terminate */
i think it's outside allocated memory because memory is allocated for size of
an icon caption + 2 extra for null terminators and:
szBuf[dwLen - 1] is last character of toolbar icon caption
szBuf[dwLen] is first null terminate
so second null terminate should be szBuf[dwLen+1], not szBuf[dwLen + 2]
I found out that it only occurs with Polish locale turned on, so if you want to
replicate my environment you have to change LC_ALL and LANG to pl_PL.utf8 or
copy
dlls/hhctrl.ocx/Pl.rc to dlls/hhctrl.ocx/En.rc

Nevertheless, I believe it's best to solve this issue through the mailing
lists.
(In reply to comment #10)
> You either need to add the test to existing ones in dlls/user32/tests/combo.c
I am not aware that it is possible to perform interactive tests in that area,
and I cannot think of a non-interactive way to test whether the problem still
exists. If both are correct, this bug is a poor candidate for the automatic
tests.

I'm guessing slideshows in Picasa with multi-monitors is affected by this as
well. When starting the slideshow, the entire screen gets blanked. After the
slideshow ends, the screen that showed the slideshow gets restored, but the
secondary screen remains blank until it gets drawn over.

The installer exits silently after Windows Component Update (step 1)
asks whether I want to install IIS or FrontPage 2000 extensions.
(If you accept, it puts up a web page and exits; if you decline,
it thinks for a bit and then exits silently.)
Sorry, no logs yet...

Hi, I'm trying to get into wine development and this bug looked like a good
start. I had no trouble compiling wine. I'm having some trouble getting the
test case to run. Maybe this isn't the right place to post, but the answer
might be helpful for others trying to fix this who are new to wine. I can also
compile combotest.exe, but I get the following error when I try to run it with
wine:
../wine ./combotest
wine: could not load L"H:\\wine\\rtl_combo_test\\combotest.": Bad EXE format

I use the following commands to build and link:
gcc -m32 -I ../include -c combotest.c
gcc -m32 -o combotest combotest.o ../libs/wine/libwine.so.1.0
../dlls/ole32/ole32.dll.so ../dlls/comdlg32/comdlg32.dll.so
../dlls/user32/user32.dll.so ../dlls/winecrt0/libwinecrt0.a
../dlls/kernel32/kernel32.dll.so
I built wine using Fedora Core 8 x86_64, basic ./configure && make depend &&
make
everything was compiled with the -m32 flag
I also tried to compile this using MSVC and was unable to because "WNDCLASSEX
wc;" is somehow illegal.

Trace of running "wine /usr/local/bin/MEGA/MEGA4.exe"
There is a book "Phylogenetic Trees Made Easy", by "Barry G. Hall" which
discusses the use of the MEGA4 program for phylogenetic (gene history)
analysis. This program is "supposed" to run on Linux under Wine.
It crashes shortly after startup under Gentoo Linux (2.6.23-gentoo-r8) with
current versions of wine (0.9.58 and 0.9.59). It displays the first program
image (copyright, developer names, etc.) then crashes.
Attached is the console log. More expanded traces will follow. The developers
of the program have been notified about the problem, but to date no response
has been received.

This bug has been fixed. The game graphics and font are almost fine now, except
a little tearing of graphics in game.
The only other problem I have with the game is that the mouse movement is
limited in game as if I were in the menu instead of actually in the game.

Confirmed. graphics fixed in 0.9.59
Although graphics got fixed, I've started having a new problem now. The
character can only rotate about 170 degrees or so when moving the mouse.
Character rotation works fine from keyboard (tested using numpad keys). It
seems that the mouse only goes around the screen as far in-game as it would if
the user was in a menu instead of inside the actual game. This limits rotation
of the character from left to right and vice-versa to about 170 degrees (not
the actual figure; might depend on screen/game resolution). I tried un-ticking
the option to allow DX games from stopping the mouse leaving the screen, but
that did not help.
This game is almost working fine for me now. The only problems I am having are
the above mentioned mouse problem and some graphics tearing (bearable, not very
important).

When making previous log I've misspelled correct command string, so there was
no tooltips output. This is correct log. First tooltip was simple tooltip
showing. Second time I've reproduced abovementioned bug #2. So, next tooltip
popup (third) was erronous.

Okay, I've compiled it properly. And it works, but there are some bugs:
1. As somebody have already pointed out, tooltips are being drawn twice - first
time empty and small (small rectangle about 5*15px), and then it redraws new
one with data. In windows the later one covers previous one, so that threre is
only one tooltip visible. Under wine the later one is partly invisible. See
screenshot: http://polosatus.ru/wine/tooltip.png
Tooltip first line should read "(Jos 6:5) <and so on>". That is small tooltip
covers part of larger one (hiding first parenthesis and partly J).
2. Well, it's kinda hard to explain :) Some terminology: "tooltip element" -
tooltip is being shown when you move mous pointer over this element.
Here is a screenshot illustrating this: http://polosatus.ru/wine/tooltip2.png
Red box is the tooltip element. If you move mouse pointer as shown by red
arrow, tooltip would disappear, but then this tooltip will appear again and
keep showing over simple text (but only within the same paragraph with tooltip
element!), when mouse is out of any tooltip elements.
But, if you move mouse pointer out of tooltip element without touching tooltip
itself (blue arrow) this bug won't appear.
Another requirement for this bug is that tooltip partly covers tooltip element,
so that you can move your mous from tooltip element directly upon tooltip,
before you leave tooltip element itself.
I was not able to test StrongDC, since it just won't start with this wine
version.

I sent that patch based on the fact that Dmitry is one of the main people that
would be fixing any font issues. It's a bit late to set for 1.0 nomination, but
let's set it for at least 1.2. Dmitry, if you've got a chance to look at
this/think it's doable by 1.0, please adjust that.

Yes; I have just tested mbr on 0.9.59. With nvidia opengl drivers there is a
crash while loading the "fight" mode; with gentoo's "xorg-x11" setting (which I
presume means mesa) I have the behaviour described here - the backgrounds
appear, input is being taken and the fight is proceeding (one can tell by the
sound and health bars), but the characters are not visible.

Wow... I hoped it would make a difference! Can you attach a tooltips log in
here so I can see how it uses the custom tooltips please.
FYI Chances are you are missing some required package for building -
./configure --verbose will list the packages you are missing at the end (You
can choose the optional ones you want depending on whether you need the
features). (If tooltips work when compiled from git, you might as well go back
to the package you normally use once released as well)

I investigated the issue with FL Studio a bit more and found that it's a bug
in the app after all. Apparently the registry value is created for the
administrator user somewhere during Windows installation (presumably
because it checks for updates or tries to register or something like that).
If you create a new user under Windows you'll find that the value does not
exist, so FL Studio would give the same error under Windows. Running IE
once makes the value appear though.

Well, I've compiled it (I have to admit, that I'm not too experienced in
compiling) and it went out pretty buggy, with slowdowns, buggy fonts and so
on... But!
*TADA* Tooltips are there! However, I was not able to figure out how good do
they work, because crappy fonts were spoiling everything and it was pretty hard
do read anything.
You know, I'd be glad to help you with testing, but I kinda need some advice in
order to compile it right (I use kubuntu 7.10).

No I don't think it should be reverted, but the test and or wine should be
fixed. Just removing the test doesn't help us. Does the test work on Windows
with these specific fonts? Then there is some bug in Wine and/or freetype
otherwise the test or the font has a bug. I'd appreciate it if somebody
investigated this before 1.0 .

This is actually a regression now for me on Gnome 2.22 in Ubuntu Hardy - in
0.9.58 utorrent shows its system tray icon when I start it, but in 0.9.59 it
does not (although I occasionally see strange behavior like an existing system
tray icon duplicated - neither one of them controls utorrent).

Summary: Bad DEL key handling with a Czech keymap
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.58.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: lubosd(a)gmail.com
When I switch to a Czech keymap, the DEL key works as a COMMA key. Therefore it
doesn't just remove the selected text, but replaces it with a comma. It works
fine with US and Spanish keyboard layouts.

Testing in Ubuntu Hardy, eMule does not minimize to the system tray, and worse
still utorrent is no longer even visible for me. I can't even see the tray
icon.

(In reply to comment #2)
> It is a bug in winemp3, no doubt about it. I switched to the Radium Fraunhofer
> MP3 codec, now it works just fine.
Freelancer had errors like this when run on Windows. A very common cause of
problems was people with a hacked frauenhofer mp3 codec installed (to allow
encoding at higher bitrates for example). Removing it and using the mp3 codec
that came with Windows fixed things*. Funny to see something similar crop up
in Wine.
> I tried to locate the MP3 in the game data
> files, to see if there's something unusual with the encoding, but I'm afraid I
> couldn't find any MP3s - the in-game music is stored in WAVs...
It _is_ actually .mp3, just with the extension changed to .wav for some reason.
Just in case anyone wants to look at them :)
* http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814549
Further, from
http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/freelancer/freelancer_demo.txt :
- Missing Game Sounds
If you experience missing game sounds throughout Freelancer Trial Version then
a different audio codec is probably being used rather than the one provided by
Freelancer Trial Version.
- Please follow these steps if some sounds and speech are still missing after
installation:
- Uninstall any 3rd party codec pack or the Nimo Codec pack from your system.
- Uninstall Freelancer Trial Version.
- Go to the following directory, C:\WINDOWS\system32 and delete the file
"l3codecp.acm". If there happens to be another file named "l3codeca.acm",
delete this too.
- If your system is Windows 98 or ME, open the system.ini file located in your
system folder; C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. Delete ONLY the line that starts with
"msacm.l3acm=". In the case of the Nimo codec pack, this will read
"msacm.l3acm=l3codecp.acm"
- If your system is Windows 2000 or XP, open the system registry editor
(regedit) from the RUN command window.
- Locate and delete the following key:
\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32\msacm.l3acm
- Load the Freelancer Trial Version installation CD and locate the REDIST
folder. Within the REDIST folder, double click on the file named "WMFADist.exe"
and follow on-screen instructions.
- Install Freelancer Trial Version.

The problem is lessened (the full pink background doesn't seem to appear
anymore) but the pink border around the letters (The attachment titled "The
less common state for text to be rendered in") still remains and the text is
completely pink when scrolling back to prior conversation elements.
As far as I can guess from what I remember of using them on real Windows, Wine
is giving it 1-bit transparency when it's asking for an alpha channel. (The
scrollback text should be ghostly rather than pink and the pink border on all
text should be anti-aliasing)

Just for reference, there is an interesting post on how older versions (4.8) of
Securom work here:
http://forum.alcohol-software.com/index.php?act=ST&f=32&t=1395
Although indirectly related, methods people have used to allow backup copies to
be made seem to have revolved around reading the structural information of the
disc using Data Positioning Measurement. The copy protection checks for the
delays in reading the disc caused by the deliberate changes made to its
structure during manufacture.
I also found this interesting:
http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?wo=2007026297&IA=WO2007026297&DISPLAY=S…
.. a patent application entitled "Method of Storing Rotating Media Data in
Image File", which demonstrates an approach to storing the information about a
disc in a Media Descriptor File. In particular, this diagram:
http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/images/PCT-IMAGES/08032007/IB2006052961_08032007_…
Obviously, this doesn't help fix any Securom problems you might be having, but
if (like me) you had no idea how the copy protection works, then it is
educational.

Addendum: this bug appears to apply to Star Trek: Hidden Evil, where clicking
"Install" from the AutoRun menu or clicking "Setup.exe" in the CD root simply
causes Wine to quit with no error output; but navigating into the Setup
directly and running the .exe there directly runs the installation as normal.

wined3d: Add read_from_framebuffer_texture which combines code from
read_from_framebuffer (drawpixels) and LoadLocation.
This makes the code easier to read and the pieces borrowed from
read_from_framebuffer are more correct than the code in LoadLocation.

FYI My custom draw fix went into git / latest wine. Can someone attach a
+tooltips log post-inclusion, and lets see what it says. I still believe this
app might be using it because of a few things I saw in the logs.

There are ddraw functions like scanline, vblanking and others which we can't
emulate well at all since X doesn't provide us with a way to use them. You seem
to be hitting such pieces of code. Don't use legacy-vga like functions. Further
as this bug has been inactive for a long time, I'll consider it closed.

Initially you were likely suffering a view port dimension bug which existed due
to our previous child window rendering method for which we hack glViewport and
other calls. This method has been replaced a while ago. These days we render
most opengl / direct3d cases to an X11 client window. This was done recently
and somehow it looks like you are seeing a side-effect of that change (bug
12212). I would say that the original bug has been fixed but you are for some
reason seeing a new issue.

I believe WoW uses pbuffers for rendering the minimap in various cases and
those aren't offered by ATI's drivers. (Also see bug 11826, which appears to be
the same as this bug) Second the wglGetPixelFormatAttribiv lines also don't
appear anymore.
Because the issue is outside Wine this is a WONTFIX.

Bug 8436 is from the game itself, not the demo. I have tested the game with
wine 0.9.59 and the output is in that bug. I think that this bug is too old and
it should be market as duplicated for 8436 as now the game does the same as
this bug shows: it loads and no menu appears.
Therefore, I propose to drop this bug or mark it as duplicate of 8436

(From update of attachment 11850)
The game installs and begins but no menu appears and therefore it is
unplayable. I wonder if any of the fixmes is the responsible for no menu or if
there is something else. Nevertheless, since it is asking for d3d8 I think that
maybe the wine implementation of d3d9 is better than d3d8.

FL Studio 8 with Wine 0.9.59 now has the small (32x32 ?) window as a (same)
small height but (relatively) wide width window. Unminimize from the taskbar
still does not work (and before the initial minimize there is no taskbar button
at all (Gnome 2.20) which apparently is a new regression).

Summary: wine uses dual-screen, confines non-wine progs to one
screen
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.58.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jrle1(a)twcny.rr.com
I have a dual-screen (nvidia twinview) setup, with icewm window manager,
running debian lenny and wine 0.9.58. Normally my taskbar is at the bottom of
one screen on one monitor. The other, second, screen on the second monitor is
"above" the first screen on the first monitor.
When I start wine - any wine program, and even just running winecfg, I have
full access to both screens ***for the wine program***.
Alas, while giving itself full dual-screen access, wine moves my taskbar to the
bottom of the second screen and completely deprives me of access to the first
screen for non-wine programs. The desktop itself and all non-wine programs are
confined to the second screen.
The only way I have found to get back to my normal dual-screen setup after
starting wine is to log out of X and back in.

Ok, I know I got into it with Dmitry about when the patch keyword can be
used...but that hack absolutely cannot be considered a patch, it just skips the
specific custom actions and gets us no closer to understanding the problem.
