Roy, please post in Bugzilla, do not reply to wine-bugs. Email read:
"Uh, sorry, but that bug still exists. Try to open the "Colour Scheme" menu
item (under Options) and you'll still see it in Arena 1.99 Beta5. It's a wine
bug because under Windows XP that problem does not appear."

Microsoft Visual Foxpro 7 SP 1.
And btw, I'm new to this bugzilla thing so be patient. I'm actually don't know
at all whether that particular bug is caused by component winex11.drv. I just
know that VFP7 SP1 has that problem.
The title "Docked components in top of main window -> Incorect coord.." mention
the bug of description paragraph 2 and 3. Is the title changeable?
I need some time to describe the bug described in paragraph 2 and 3.

Ok... I noticed there's such a link at the bottom of the bug list now. I don't
know how long it has been there, but *File a new bug in the "Wine" product*
does the trick, although I didn't exactly mean the link to be placed there. My
idea was actually to put it in the menu on the right.
I would still think a link in the menu were better, but this is no high
priority thing in any case. Thanks for listening!

Ok, Austin. I will. Right now I'm just afraid my configuration on this machine
isn't exactly trustworthy and it may cause false errors, especially with
graphics stuff. My graphics card is an old one, and I've had constant driver
issues, because I need to use legacy GLX. The comp works fine as such, but I
really wouldn't trust my configuration works 100% as expected and I don't have
time to fight with it right now. So I rather leave the debugging to others for
now to avoid creating confusion.

There was a major rewrite of ddraw code in 0.9.16, so this is likely due to
that. But there needs to be a regression test run to confirm that first, as
James requested.

Hello,
--- quote ---
So I tried the patch A.F. pointed to. It doesn't apply cleanly today;
I'll attach a rediffed version. But even with that patch,
the installer says msxml 6 failed to install.
--- quote ---
Of course it doesn't apply/work anymore because James Hawkins is actively
working in this area, doing several code refactoring/rewrites/cleanups.
That's why I refrained from updating my patches in bugzilla for some time.
It would be pointless and short lived ... I and didn't want to hear "I already
have patch in pipeline for xxx".
If you're itchy and don't want to wait for new official patches you can use a
one liner which retrieves the requested installer properties from uninstall key
(certain installer properties get only stored in this place by wine's msi).

Hmm, I can't see how this should be a game bug. Sure, I get crashes with 26499
on Windows XP. But it crashes during gameplay in totally random and
irreproducible ways. This crash on Wine is different: It happens at a specific
point in the menu, is (at least for me) 100% reproducible and I have never seen
it crash in that spot on Windows despite having created a lot of characters.
Anyway, you should resolve bug 9305.

Could be a ddraw rewrite issue, indeed. There have been tons of fixes on it

There's very little information here without a regression test. Check
http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting. Please, do one, if this bug is still
present. Otherwise there's not much clue of what is the problem.
I do have a wild guess in case the bug still exists. It could be another ddraw
rewrite problem occuring between 0.9.15 and 0.9.16. If that's the case, then
Stefan Dösinger would be the one to add to the CC. But more info (a regression
test) is needed first to find out.

Here's how to replicate the bug mentioned in the description's first paragraph
in 0.9.54.
1. Dock project manager to top of main window.
2. Click form of project manager, right click the form to modify, choose
modify.
3. Close form.
4. Click form of project manager, right click the form to modify
5. Ta daaa, the list of forms disappears.
As for the second and third paragraph, I will post it as a new bug.

Hmm. Turns out the downloadable trial installer eventually
said that .net 2 installed ok, and what hadn't installed
successfully was msxml 6, just as this bug report said.
So I tried the patch A.F. pointed to. It doesn't apply cleanly today;
I'll attach a rediffed version. But even with that patch,
the installer says msxml 6 failed to install.

Fun Fact: there's a 90 day freely downloadable trial of
MS Visual Studio Professional 2005 (with Visual C++) at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=B2C27A7F-D875-47D5…

sha1sum b47bc81b02dd3c01797cf12e9b72a8b94bd5106c
It needs MFC42, else it complains
err:module:import_dll Library MFC42.DLL (which is needed by
L"C:\\windows\\temp\\SIT40161.tmp\\PIDGen.dll") not found
and says "already a trial version installed".
Past that, it then fails while installing the first prerequisite,
.net framework 2. I haven't tried to get further, but I
imagine it'll run into the msi issue this bug is about eventually.

What I'm most interested in is if there are any developers looking into this
thread or our investigations are in vain. Are there any developers reading
this?
Also...
I thought I had resolved this issue for myself when I removed all addons and
settings (/Interface/ and /WTF/). I didn't try to play that much with the
native UI but added the addons as I found I needed them. Now I'm back to square
one with multiple (10+) lockups in a row - worse than before.

According to the original author, the correct patch is
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2005-October/021308.html
As James Hawkins here and James McKenzie in bug #10467 wrote, what's needed is
a conformance test, which would prevent future regressions ;)
I don't have the knowledge necessary to write such a testcase myself :-(
With the fix in, as I wrote in comment #9, PDF-Xchange would get a much better
rating in AppDB.

Another thing I noticed is that about half of the time, about one sec before it
freezes/crashes, the y-coordinates of the ground textures get inverted. The
textures becomes upside-down.
Supcom always had the bug that it displays the silhouette of units (like
shadows, but brown in color) with inverted coordinates. That means, units that
are at coordinate x=50 y=100 get their silhouette drawn at the coordinates x=50
y=900 (assuming the viewport is x=whatever y=1000 in size)
I never debugged something, but this inverted-y seems to be somehow related to
these crashes. Maybe this helps in figuring it out?

Flash CS3 runs into the same crash as Photoshop CS3 (after first running into
bug 7380) Looks like this bug is affecting all Adobe CS3 apps. I enabled
+snoop, and it looks like it's doing a lot of gdiplus stuff just before the
crash. Maybe that helps to see what the cause of the bug is. Note, i can't set
gdiplus to builtin, as it will crash CS3 very early with unimplemented
functions.
If we could solve this bug, i have the feeling we could get a lot further.
Anyone an idea what's going on?

vgasys.fon is supposed to contain bitmaps only for 1 point size, that's true
for Windows version as well. If you could figure out what makes the builtin
font unusable that would be great.
Just to clarify things, if you run 'wine notepad' and launch the choose font
dialog, does "System" font display there, also which point sizes are listed
for native and builtin vgasys.fon?

I'm not using fontforge. These fonts are the ones included with wine and have
your name in the Copyright notice. I've been using a hex editor to examine
coure.fon (which works) and vgasys.fon (which doesn't work). They are very
similar in size & structure so it will be some minor little thing. Perhaps the
programs are attempting to set a point size which is supported in one font but
not the other.

Major because it affects lots of other games. Also since development goes

(In reply to comment #4)
> Is this still a problem in current (0.9.52 or newer) wine?
>
I'm not sure if this is 100% the same issue as the bug report, but it is the
same problem as in the comment by Adam PiÄ…tyszek. This has also been reported
by hasi at
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=2735&iTestingI…
This problem occurs in wine-0.9.56 with Microsoft Word 2000 and 2003. Assuming
Microsoft Equation Editor is selected during installation of MSOffice, simply
launching Word and going through the following Insert->Object->Microsoft
Equation 3.0, the following dialog appears:
---
The server application, source file, or item cannot be found.
Make sure the application is properly installed, and that it has not been
deleted, moved, or renamed. [OK]
---
Equations in Word are not usable because of this (slightly problematic for
scientific publication). A different message occurs if you try to edit an
equation. The dialog after double clicking on a pre-existing equation is:
---
Microsoft Word can't start the application required to open this object.
An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Would
you like to repair this feature now? [Yes] [No]
---
Clicking on either [Yes] or [No] causes the first dialog to appear again.
I'll attach the logs as the fixme and err messages are bit different.

I tried freetype-2.3.5 and have the same results.
I looked at coure.fon and vgasys.fon and they both appear to be simple bitmap
font files. It is strange that freetype can display coure.fon but not
vgasys.fon.

I also try changing the rendering to fbo, but the screen still freezes. The
error I receive in the konsole when running it from there is:
err:ole:COMPOBJ_DllList_Add couldn't load in-process dll L"quartz.dll"
err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {e436ebb3-524f-11ce-9f53-0020af0ba770}
could be created for context 0x1
No idea what that means, but it looks like a different error than the ones
listed here. It basically keeps sending this to the terminal until I kill
Oblivion. I also can't find anyone else who receives this error. Is this
error an easy thing to fix?

hi,
unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I' have compiled these wine versions:
- 0.9.55
- 0.9.56
with this patch : http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=8368
and the same error occurs. To perform the test i always play a battle net 4vs4
game. After 30 seconds the game freezes.

Interesting, I have for some reason stopped getting crashes altogether in the
last 3/4 weeks, and the only thing I can think of that has changed was me
switching to a different music player (from Audacious to Rythmbox).
Unfortunately I can't test this to be certain because Audacious refuses to run
at the moment (which is what prompted me to switch). But if it's sound-related
that may certainly explain something (or maybe not, I don't really know). I'll
see if I can get Audacious to run again and see if the makes WoW crash.

I have isolated the problem.
It appears CentOS 5.1 + Gnome isn't able to display the vgasys.fon and
sserife.fon that comes with wine. Replacing these fonts with ones from
Windows2000 solves the problem. Alternatively, simply copying the coure.fon
supplied with wine to vgasys.fon & sserife.fon will work too.
I suppose this begs the question why CentOS won't render these fonts while
other flavors of Linux apparently do.
Tests are as follows:
"wine notepad.exe" will type with blank characters and Office 97 install splash
screen will have no text if using the vgasys.fon included with wine 0.9.52-1.
Office 97 install dialogs & pushbuttons past the splash screen will have no
text if using the sserife.fon included with wine 0.9.52-1.

Actually, I recently found out after lending the game to my friend who has
Windows XP, that the issue involves the game itself. Once patched, it runs
properly.

--- Comment #22 from Vanessa Ezekowitz <vanessaezekowitz(a)gmail.com> 2008-02-29 15:26:08 ---
I don't mean to sound arrogant, much less belligerant, but damn it this problem
has been with us for at least a YEAR now. I realise the developers don't have
all that much time, but if it was working in the distant past, it shouldn't be
all that hard to get it working again, especially with a year's time to fix it.
Regardless of the meaning of that fixme message or what Xorg can or can't do,
the fact remains that Wine is not working properly with this game.
As in all previous attempts with every version of Wine we've tried, the
following things happen when you try to run the game on a regular 24 bpp X
session (WITH GLX support I might add):
0. Start the game with `wine Drive-C/Program\ Files/Microsoft\ Games/Pinball\
Arcade/Launcher.exe`
1. A movie displays showing a closeup of one of the game's tables (this looks
really bad in real 8bpp mode, but fine in 24bpp mode. Go figure.)
2. Click on it, title screen appears. Looks fine.
3. Click again, table select menu appears and waits for input
4. Click on any menu item at the bottom of the window - a dialog related to it
appears as it should.
5. Double-click on one of the tables - the table selection screen gets blacked
out, the window resizes, and the table's loading screen appears all in the same
instant - without repainting the window - the loading screen only painted on
the parts of the window that were already black. So we have a window half
filled with the loading screen and half transparent, showing this browser and
the controlling terminal through it.
6. The loading screen disappears and the window turns solid black. A windows
pointer appears. On the console, the "Cannot change screen BPP" line appears.
7. Clicking around eventually causes the pointer to disappear, probably because
I managed to trigger the insert-coin hot spot followed by the "1 player"
hotspot, thus starting the actual game. Hitting Esc is supposed to bring up a
graphical exit/no-exit dialog, but nothing appears. Blindly hitting "y" puts
me back at the table-select screen as it should. So the actual game is
accepting input, it just isn't showing me anything.
7a. If I try another table, I get the exact same result, including another
"Cannot change screen BPP" line on the console.
8. Double-click the table-select menu's internal Exit button and Wine drops
back to my shell after a couple of seconds.

Max: Does that mean it's a game bug that they fix in the patch or it's just
something that Wine slips up on and just happens to work differently after the
patch so it works after patching?

Perhaps, though 11723 claimed to be resolved by the latest OS updates. I have
the latest OS updates yet the problem persists. I'll keep track of package
versions in case a future update suddenly "fixes" it. It would be nice to
isolate what causes this.

I have copied original windows ntdll.dll over the wine one, and the games still
crashes! (much less, but still does) So it may not be ntdll related... As said
Stephan Wienczny, it might have something to do with other things, maybe sound
dlls.

This means that it can't switch the BPP, so Wine will have to do conversion
manually instead of telling the GPU to just use 8 bpp natively. This results in
slower performance(still fast enough to handle old ddraw games on somewhat
modern hardware(Pentium 3+), but doesn't mean the game won't display

Stefan - if Wine's 8-24 conversion works, why do I get this error when I try to
run the game without using the script/code mention in the previously attached
log file?

Is it trying to tell me that it wants to switch the X server itself to 8bpp

necessary.

The problem with this is that none of the developers uses a X server without
GLX. So it breaks regularly.
Wine DOES have a 8->24 bpp conversion. If your game is broken than that is due
to something else, not due to missing bit depth conversion

As of version 0.9.56 this is still broken. However, I have noticed that the
error messages have changed. The last working version is still 0.9.45. I have
attached a log file showing a new batch of errors. Incidentally, if I run this
game within my existing X session, it doesn't crash, presumably because my
existing X session has glx of course. Like previous versions of wine, I can't
actually play the game on my current X session because wine STILL doesn't have
a working 8bpp->24bpp translation functionality (resulting in a black window,
as before).

and applying the fix you send to wine-patches, it still crashes exactly the
same way as in comment #42. So no luck yet.

Summary: Tray icons in Gnome's notification area are broken.
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.55.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: shell32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ohrn+wine(a)opera.com
Tray icons in the Gnome notification area are broken.
Instead of showing the correct tray icon an existing icon from a non-Windows
utility is duplicated. Sometimes this duplicate dissapears and there is just a
blank space in the notification area.
The tray icon does not respond to mouse clicks or other events so pop-up menus
connected to the icon are not accessible.
I've tested this with several different Windows applications and they all
exhibit the same behaviour.
I've also tested this with all Wine versions back to 0.9.52 and all have the
same problem.
I'm using Fedora 8 and the Gnome notification about box shows version 2.20.2.

I think I've found another way to avoid this bug. If you completly disable
sound by using "./Woe.exe -nosound" you don't get lockups. I currently think
that this bug is somewhere in the wines dsound.dll.
I ran the test program yesterday and it did not produce the error as expected
but ran out of resources...

I just want to mention that I've managed to install Visual Studio 2005
completely with latest WINE trunk.
1) installed "vcrun6" (with winetricks)
2) applied 1 patch from http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8439#c3
(Required for overall installation)
3) applied patched from http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=3754
(Required for .NET 2.0 installation)
4) applied "fix for MSI ACTION_RegisterProduct to store all properties also in
InstallProperties registry key"
(Without this patch Visual Studio 2005 will think that MS XML 6.0 and some
others is still uninstalled!)
NOTE: "patch which fixes MSI_GetProductInfo to treat specific properties with
correct type" is no longer needed with latest trunk.
Installation goes without problem, however running "devenv.exe" causes several
problems with .NET 2.0 packages and crashes a lot :( too bad. Most crashes and
errors are because of few missing WINE API functions, and incomplete .NET 2.0
support.
Still I think WINE's close to run Visual Studio! which will be great news for
multi-platform developers.
I'm attaching screenshots :)

1) instead of 'which wine' should be i.e. /usr/lib/wine or '/usr/lib/wine' or
just wine?
2) it can`t start showing an information that the display 0 is already in use.

This bug seems to be fixed as of 0.9.54, issue doesn't seem to be reproducible
