patch
hi, installing "native" .net 2.0 , and using the usual workarounds to get .net
apps starting , i ran into a crash in shdocvw. With the patch attached, the
AutoWikiBrowser GUI comes up fine, though it seems to be a bit unstable, but
that's another bug of course. At least some functionality seemed to work, like
menu's and settings ;)

This bug is related to
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6033
That thread also contains a workaround.
In fact I'd hazard to guess that this color depth issue is the major problem
with older games in Wine nowadays.

I ran it but my problem was not solved. I notice when I plug my gamepad it
appers as /dev/input/js0 or js1.
I made js0 also readable and the situation is cahnged:
* Language selector works well (first screen) - this one was also wrong before
* In menu selector does not work well
* In game controlling works well

Still fixed with recent wine :-)
That help center installer spews lots of hex
because it can't load a particular image
format, but that's a different bug.

Damn, this is strange. I can't get this far anymore with
the retail CD. It has the oddest symptom: it puts up the
UI and then gets stuck until I press ^C in the console.
It then redraws and gets stuck again. Repeat.
Not very useful! This regression seems to have occurred
a long time ago, even wine-0.9.42 seems to do it on
one test system.

Summary: Fixed width fonts appear corrupted, or distorted
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P3
Component: fonts
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: thomas(a)tgohome.com
I've tried many programs which use fonts with fixed widths, and the fonts come
out in a distorted fashion - typically spaces are replaced with 'E's and '='s
replaced with squares, and many more weird character changes. Letters typically
all appear in uppercase. Most of these programs work perfectly except for these
font glitches.

--- Comment #18 from Jeff Zaroyko <jeffzaroyko(a)gmail.com> 2008-02-16 18:35:01 ---
Vincent Povirk recently submitted a patch "tools: add a wrapper script for
starting files from file managers and make wine.desktop use it"
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.wine.patches/47072 which is
titled "Start a file as if it were double-clicked in windows explorer."
I'm writing this here after I pointed out to Vincent that this patch doesn't
exactly live up its name, but I agree with the direction it's going in, but
this patch shouldn't be committed. I think that a patch of this nature could
directly address and solve this bug, but it's not possible to give windows
explorer behaviour in a shell script alone.
Such a patch will need to always quote the application name always quoted as
returned by GetCommandLineA, because windows explorer _always_ quotes this.
Quoting is a requirement to allow it to be parsed correctly if there are spaces
because the string returned by GetCommandLineA is delimited by spaces outside
of quotes ".
This behaviour can be tested using the example program provided in comment #15.
Running it as GetCommandLineA.exe should print out "GetCommandLineA.exe" if
the behaviour is correct. If it is incorrect then GetCommandLineA.exe will be
printed.

Does it do the same on windows? If not, then this is a wine bug.

Figured it out a little while ago.
Turns out data downloaded from Army servers is cryptographically signed, and
it'd seem that AA locks up when something goes wrong.
I've found that if this particular lockup occurs (during news updates, game
updates, or in-game non-PunkBuster downloads), it can be worked around by
deleting System/AA.key. The game will recreate it on the next run, and it'll
work (at least until this problem shows itself again).
Should this bug be closed?

I have the same problem sometimes, but this is because my mouse-wheel (in the
hardware itself) is broken, check please if your mousewheel is in an
"intermediate" position between two ticks, this can cause unpredictable
behaviour. Can you please also post the result of "ls -lah /dev/input" and of
"id -a" (both run as your normal user, not as root)?

Nope. DN actively uses GetConsoleScreenBufferInfo, which does not work with

not be installed on your computer" - at which point a 64k msi file exists,
running msiexec /i silverlight.msi appears to do something - but not much,
visiting a silverlight page in Firefox doesn't recognise silverlight as being
installed.

Why not? If it doesn't work, where is the bug for that?
> I have to copy/paster folder from winbox (with applyed patch p27p1.exe)
This is not supported. Most programs have to be properly installed or they
won't work.
Please attach complete output, including command used to start the program of
running this program as-is (no extra debug channels). Make sure you have debug
symbols and that you properly compiled Wine (check with ./configure --verbose).

Hi.
I can confirm this bug, it still doesn't work (wine-0.9.55), using a NoCD
executable.
I played around a little bit, and
export WINEDEBUG=trace+d3d7,+seh
wine MW4.exe
shows, that the problem is (probably) the function
IDirect3DDeviceImpl_3_SetCurrentViewport
in device.c of ddraw.
There is a function call
This->current_viewport->activate(This->current_viewport);
but the adress of
This->current_viewport->activate
is 0x51, which is invalid.
Skipping this call gives that error window again with
STOP : FAILED (0x80070057 - WINERR_Error: 0x80070057) - CreateDevice(BLADE
from 0x431f9a0)
but one can click "Continue", second error window:
STOP : FAILED (0x80070057 - WINERR_Error: 0x80070057) - CreateDevice(BLADE
from 0x41ae9b0)
again, "Continue", then third error window:
another application is blocking full screen mode
(I translated this message from German)
clicking "continue", and then it keeps complaining about missing CD2 of this
game, inserting it (or mounting an iso) doesn't help.
I don't really know, what I was doing, I hope this helps a little. If you need
any logs, please ask.

this application does not work on Windows 98.

I don't think so, at least if it did the performance hit was so little that it
was unnoticeable, with wine after alt tabing the performance hit is so big that
the game is almost unplayable.

Mostly, someone from CodeWeavers tweaked the ReplaceFileW part a little bit.
I'm really glad this is finally implemented. Personally, I think that the way
patches are currently being handled is not very conducive to getting things
done. I've used both email and bugzilla for handling bugs for work and I find
that handling patches as separate bug topics makes handling patches and getting
them acceptable much easier. </end rant>

Summary: Starting a wine app causes Xorg to reprobe video outputs
(which is visually distracting for some types of
displays)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.54.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: vanvugt(a)gmail.com
Reproduced in 0.9.54 but this has been a problem for me for a very long time.
OS is Ubuntu 7.10 i386
Hardware is an IBM ThinkPad T60 (intel graphics driver)
Starting virtually any wine app causes Xorg to reprobe it's outputs (proof is
in /var/log/Xorg.0.log), which on my laptop is the same as running "xrandr".
This results in the VGA signal being interrupted and my (main) external display
flashing uncontrollably.
This only happens in wine apps, and with the xrandr command (which is meant to
do it).

It appears that OLE support in riched20 broke the patch. Work continues.

Messages while application starting
Starting with version 0.9.53 Magic Maps' main window fails to display
correctly, icons and menus keep working as before. The main window uses OpenGL.
Only a small rectangle in the top left corner is displayed, the rest of the
window shows garbage and remainders of redraw events. In case it's related to
this bug I attached the output of the application being started from a
terminal.

The patch seems to work well. But there is a minor issue with the format of the
title. It is better to use standard $CUSTOM_TEXT - $PROGRAM_NAME pattern for
the title. For example:
Photoshop - Wine desktop
Default - Wine desktop
...an so on. In fact this is the standard used by almost all applications
(including Firefox, Konqueror, Kontact, kpdf, Konsole, kwrite and many others)
so it is good idea to obey it. And this standard is very convenient when
switching between applications.
So you need to use " - " (without quotes) as a separator, place "Wine desktop"
after this separator, and place desktop name at the leftmost side of the title.
When you write final version of the patch, please send it to wine-patches.
Thanks.

I get the same problem under Archlinux (using bin32-wine) : the game says me
that my video card is unsupported, and if I accept, an infinite loop begin.
Video card : Nvidia 7900 GS
Video driver : NVIDIA proprietary driver v169.09 for linux-x86_64
Also, I get the same kind of bugs with World of Warcraft, which says me my
graphics device doesn't have at least two textures mapping units (TMU), these
two bugs may be linked.

The guys at http://www.japheth.de/HX.html already fixed the mmtaskcreate16
error for winmm.dll
I replaced wine-0.9.54's winmm.dll with HX DOS Extender's version of the file
and I can now play Wizardry Gold which was impossible with wine before.
This should be an easy fix since another open source project did the work for
you.

wrong layering order.

I agree here, Running starcraft in windowed mode, you can coax the fonts and
buttons to display by forcing the window to redraw by dragging other windows
over it.
On a related note. My starcraft will crash reliably when drawing the score
screen (since bw 1.13). Gameplay in bnet is good if you can be patient enough
to join a game with the above.

While 0.9.48 works fine, the game freezes while loading on 0.9.49 after

f6637cae983323eb60d989e5d144b15f1fee2846 is first bad commit
commit f6637cae983323eb60d989e5d144b15f1fee2846
Author: Stefan Dösinger <stefan(a)codeweavers.com>
Date: Sat Oct 13 12:54:10 2007 +0200

caf23730cc67f4ee80653a799cf67cfbe84956e3 M dlls
Steps to reproduce:
- Install the game using the First URL and use the binary provided by the
second URL to start it.
- Select a resolution. Fonts may corrupted, just click on the upper left hex to
select. This is only needed once.
- Intro pics will get displayed. Click mouse1 to skip, there are 3 of them.
- The game will now sit there sucking CPU time for about a minute or so. After
that there will be a message that the engine started. Just wait for it, and
don't alt+tab
- In case of 0.9.48: You will be provided with a dialog to change graphic
settings. This is the sign of success
- In case of 0.9.49: The game will freeze with the following console output:
err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow 4 bytes in thread 0009 eip 7ef84e81 esp
00230ffc stack 0x231000-0x340000
I'm sorry that I'm not able to test 0.9.53 (the current one), but that version
will not even get to the point of displaying the intro pics, it will freeze on
the spot without any suspicious console output.
I'm still investigating that as I'm unsure whether this is a seperate bug. If
someone could write a patch for me that disables the bad commit mentioned
above, I could try applying it to current sources and see what happens.

All bugs in state FIXED should be closed each time we do a release
to mark the fact that the fix is now released.
If the bug is somehow not really fixed, the individual bug should be reopened.

All bugs in state FIXED should be closed each time we do a release
to mark the fact that the fix is now released.
If the bug is somehow not really fixed, the individual bug should be reopened.
