Hi, I have the same problem. Tried different wine builds from source (0.9.37,
0.9.44, 0.9.45 and 0.9.49 [with the patch in kernel/sync.c for bnet connection]
), with and without optimization, cleaning previous install on /opt/wine after
each build.
My machine is a fedora core 3 (heavily modified, with custom Xorg), ati 9800
pro, 1GB ram, kernel 2.6.16, athlon XP 3200.
Confirming single player works great (played more than 3 hours straight
yesterday) but battlenet games lockup. Curious thing is that custom network
games work o, only bnet freezes.
My other PC, a notebook with intel 965 running openSUSE 10.3 works fine with
wine-0.9.44 (suse package).

This bug patch has caused bug 9777... It's be nice if someone were able to
write a patch that will revert enough to fix bug#9777 yet still resolve this
bug as well.

this week i have confirmed jane's ww2fighters is working with the following
versions of wine.
20040308
20050310
0.9.12
0.9.15
i have confirmed these version are not working:
0.9.16
0.9.17
0.9.18
0.9.20
0.9.28
0.9.48
I followed the directions from this page
http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting
using wine-0.9.15 as good, and wine-0.9.16 as bad
but when it came time to run wine for the first time i got this:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
I have another machine I will try it again.

called Shadow of legend. http://www.shadowoflegend.com/web/
It runs fine if i switch the entire desktop to 16 bit. But i don't want to do

I see this problem too. The problem is that SkyMap maps are all only 1 page,
therefore the "Pages from" should read "1 to 1" but instead it reads "1 to
65535".
This means that Wine does not recognize the correct number of pages that SkyMap
intends to print.

no, it's not a failed attempt, it's not an attempt, it's a code excerpt from
official php sources and demonstrate how they work with getenv/setenv since
early 2000 and once they rely on a non-documented behaviour of msvcrt library,
I'd highly recommend you to check if Wine can follow.
comment#2 is a real-world testcase to demonstrate the problem with php win32
binaries. If you do not know what php is, please check www.php.net site.
Finally, no documents said that pointers returned with getenv() are
non-persistent and once it happens that they are persistent under Win32 and
there are applications relying on this behaviour, I see no reasons to consider
this bug report as an invalid.

Got a chance to test myself. Worked fine for me in wine 0.9.49. Doesn't crash
just running it, but as soon as I click the toolbar (waiting 1 second or 5
minutes), it will crash. But that's the subject of another report...

"I ran the sc executable on windows, wich created a temporary directory with
all
files. I zipped this directory and used it on linux."
You need to install UltraVNC in wine, not copy it from a windows machine. After
that, it starts fine, but has problems receiving connections.
The dll you copied is not provided by wine (or windows). It is up to the
application to provide that. That is not a bug.
Resolving invalid. Please open a separate report about UltraVNC not
connecting/receiving connections.

That's right, the patch necessary for Uru also gets much smaller this way ;-)
Do you have an idea how the behaviour Uru needs (which is obviously the one
Windows provides) can be implemented without this patch? Is it included in one
of the tests marked as "todo_wine"? It'd be great if Uru was supported
out-of-the-box :)
(not that you misunderstand me - I really appreciate what we already have.
Without your patches playing Uru on Linux would be completely impossible. Thank
you very much for your work!)

If I start it in a virtual desktop, it shows the Intro-Screen,and crashes then.
I'll attach a log of it.
If I start it in a virtual desktop, it produces a bunch of Error-Messages.

I've installed a new CVS-Wine(of 15.11.07) and the situation got better.
I start a game with the default settings, and it really(!) starts a new game.
The drawback is that the main game screen seems to have crashed. It stays
forever black. But the title bar works and I can then regularly exit the game.
The behaviour is always the same if I set the Windows-Version to Win3.1, Win95,
Win98 or WinXP.
I don't know of another download-site except HotU.
I'll attach the output of wine.

Right. Uru requires this patch (I've been told this patch will be placed on
AppDB page too). I thought this is harmless but AJ expressed some concerns
about this part so I dropped it for a while (it is better to include most of
support now and then work on tiny bit left instead of holding whole thing in
half-working state).

Thanks a lot for including the patches into the git :)
However, Myst Online: Uru Live still doesn't work. I compared the version of
the patch you sent to wine-patches in August with the one you sent now, and did
a lot of testing to see which additional or removed change broke the game. I'll
attach the patch which fixes it to this bug. As I don't know how
I/O-Completion-Ports work or what they do, I don't know if it'll break anything
else. I just know it's necessary to have Myst Online: Uru Live working ;-)

I can't set X11 to 8 bpp on my new computer (without crashing & locking up the

I've noticed this is a problem mostly for games that want to maximize. HL2
likes to try and take both screens. Which I assume it gets the information via
DirectX/OpenGL. Whereas IE, when maximized uses only one screen full area.

Setting chattr +S on just Steam/SteamApps/<username> works for me, as that's
where the cache files are as pointed out in comment #19. This won't affect
download speeds, as the game data is stored in Steam/SteamApps. And like
comment #24, it happened to TF2 most of the time until I set the sync flag.

Summary: Regression: Flashget will not open
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.4.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-console
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: kimybrady(a)yahoo.com
CC: kimybrady(a)yahoo.com
When I first installed wine Flashget worked fine. Then it updated to the new
version and I keep getting the massage that flashget "Failed to create empty
document" I checked Flashget's website it says the problem is:
A.1.Install a new version of Microsoft's Common Control
2.Install DCOM98 for Windows98 or DCOM95 for Windows95
3.Default download datebase(default.jcd) is corrupted, please use backup
download database(default.bk1,default,bk2,default.bk3) recover it.
Don't think I can download and install the Common Control from Microsoft!
Could you please fix this problem, otherwise my download speeds are very slow.
Thanks

I just tried this. It contains 6 samples:
1. button - still works.
2. db1 - prints the error:
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {00000010-0000-0010-8000-00aa006d2ea4} not
registered
This is installed with MDAC, I believe. The dialog appears anyway.
3. db2 - prints the error:
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {00028c00-0000-0000-0000-000000000046} not
registered
and puts up an error dialog.
4. db3 - prints the error:
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {cde57a43-8b86-11d0-b3c6-00a0c90aea82} not
registered
and puts up an error dialog.
5. form - brings up an empty dialog, not sure if that's what it's supposed to
do or not.
6. setup - seems to install ok. The only change to the above results is db2
now brings up its main dialog after the error dialog, but it isn't responsive.
Dismissing it crashes with a NULL pointer dereference.

The problem in comment #1 sounds invalid, and was probably
a failed attempt to produce a minimal test case.
SuSv3 deprecates the global _environ, and encourages you to use
getenv.
When a program modifies the environment,
it's ok for the variables to move, but any pointers retrieved
beforehand by getenv() must remain valid, i.e. point to an old copy of
the environment.
The problem in comment #2 sounds more interesting.
I can't reproduce it with a simple program. Here's what I did:
first, I created the following file
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
int main(int argc, char **argv)
{
const char *foobie=getenv("foobie");
if (foobie)
printf("foobie ok, %s\n", foobie);
else
printf("foobie not found\n");
}
as foo.c in my wine-git tree, the compiled it with the line
tools/winegcc/winegcc foo.c -L dlls -L libs/wine
and then tested it like this:
$ wine cmd
Z:> set foobie=bletch
Z:> a.out
foobie ok, bletch
I would suggest closing this bug as invalid and opening
a new one with just the real-world problem you're facing
(i.e. the one from #2).

well, test case is below:
1. install php into c:\php
2. create a bat file with content below in c:\php:
@echo off
set GATEWAY_INTERFACE=CGI/1.1
set REQUEST_METHOD=GET
set REDIRECT_STATUS=200
set PATH_TRANSLATED=C:\php\1.php
C:\php\php-cgi.exe
3. create php file C:\php\1.php with content below
<?php
phpinfo();
4. run bat file
Under windows it will run php file and output phpinfo results. Under wine it
will not work at all waiting for input as if no CGI environment was set. You
may also try to run php with shell script:
#!/bin/sh
GATEWAY_INTERFACE="CGI/1.1"
REQUEST_METHOD=GET
REDIRECT_STATUS=200
PATH_TRANSLATED="C:\\php\\1.php"
./php-cgi.exe
and results will be the same. It does not see the environment.
As I mentioned earilier, it will not work under Wine because evironment strings
are allocated with not persistent addresses and changing one may change all the
others.

I do not see the tooltip windows with a titlebar or in the panel, but they do
steal IE6 focus.
Used http://tatanka.com.br/ies4linux script to install it.
Was running stable Wine, now testing with wine-snapshot-0.9.49.20071112-11.1
and still seeing the issue.
Running OpenSUSE 10.3 x86_64.

--- snip ---
Estimated application call sequence (MFC based, dynamically linked), made up
from debugging/disassembly:
--- snip app pseudo code ---
..
AfxRegisterWndClass( ..)
CWnd::CreateWindow( ..)
..
CWinThread* pThread = AfxGetThread();
CWnd* pMainWnd = pThread->GetMainWnd();
..
pMainWnd->xxx *boom*
--- snip app pseudo code ---
MFC's CWinThread::GetMainWnd() tries to find associated main window for the
thread object by looking at class member data first (in place active or main
window members).
If none is found (!= NULL) it calls user32.GetActiveWindow().
In windows, the newly created window handle is returned.
Wine doesn't find an active window handle for the thread
(user32.GetActiveWindow() retval=00000000) which leads to exception when MFC
tries to dereference member data.
GetActiveWindow() -> get_thread_input (wine server)
--- snip ---
server/queue.c:get_thread_input():
thread->queue -> thread->queue->input
if (input)
{
reply->focus = input->focus;
reply->capture = input->capture;
reply->active = input->active;
..
}
--- snip ---
The input->active member is NULL at this point - of course, no one made window
active yet by explicit call.
I worked around by associating the newly created window handle to current
thread queue -> input-> active in server window.c:create_window.
Of course only if there was no previous active window.
E.g. something like this:
--- snip server/window.c:create_window() ---
/* if parent belongs to a different thread and the window isn't */
/* top-level, attach the two threads */
if (parent && parent->thread && parent->thread != current &&
!is_desktop_window(parent))
{
if (!attach_thread_input( current, parent->thread )) goto failed;
}
else /* otherwise just make sure that the thread has a message queue */
{
if (!current->queue && !init_thread_queue( current)) goto failed;
/* helper in queue.c which sets input->active member if none set yet)
*/
set_active_window( current, win->handle);
}
--- snip server/window.c:create_window() ---
Now MFC/app seems to be happy. I omitted a patch here because AJ probably comes
up with cleaner solution - just to show the general problem/direction ;-)
I attached a server trace showing the thread queue input data members after
window creation.

This is a pretty old bug from a now-no-longer-used version of wine. While I
won't stop you from confirming or trying to fix it, I don't have the problem
with 0.9.49.

Yes, EMPEROR.EXE still crashes without -c option. I have tested with current
git.

As of latest GIT Red Alert II should be very fast (using
DirectDrawRenderer=opengl and RenderTargetLockMode=readtex) if you are using a
driver with support for PBOs like Nvidia's (ATI doesn't offer it in its latest
drivers).
The old 0.9.15 had some mechanism to 'track' what things the game changed in a
surface which prevented unneeded uploads. He didn't allow it for >= 0.9.16 as
he found it dirty.
I'll close the bug.

Register the dll using:
cd .wine/drive_c/Program /Files\Common /Files\Microsoft /Shared\DAO\
regsvr32 dao350.dll

Origin Logo Movie appears to work in wine 0.9.49 however the game still has
issues, and a new bug will be created for those.
