This bug pertains to Portal. http://orange.half-life2.com/portal.html When I move my view into line of sight with a portal, the game crashes. It may help to know that when I tried standing in the corner and not moving at all with where the portals were set to appear appear in sight, the portals appeared and were (mostly) rendered and animated correctly, smoothly, and without crashing. When I moved, the game crashed. Most of the attached log is repeating of the line: err:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_SetRenderTarget (0x144300) : Only 1 render targets are supported. The log is from the command wine Steam.exe &> ~/debug.log executed from /home/steve/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Steam/. All, I have been trying to get my Sony Digital Voice Editor software to run with wine. (DVEdit.exe) I've installed it with the latest version of code weavers (6.2) Standard for Linux. I have noticed that the game will run on all the hardware/software I use if the game loads in "indirect rendering" mode. Performance will be slower, but the game is playable and will not lock up in ladder matches. This patch seems to help IrfanView and partially GeoInfo - what is drawn after the PeekMessage is shown (that is all except for the background and the legend). It works under Windows as it seems that there for top-level windows there is an exception and the WM_ERASEBKGND is not generated by BeginPaint but sent from outside before WM_PAINT. Thus during WM_PAINT there is no RDW_ERASE and even if the app doesn't validate the window, no WM_ERASEBKGND occurs (unless the app e.g. calls RedrawWindow(..., RDW_ERASE|RDW_INVALIDATE) - then there will be an erase). In bug #10013 it's more a bit different as GeoInfo calls BeginPaint{}/EndPaint() in the WM_PAINT handler but it also calls PeekMessage which receives an X11 expose event and invalidates the window. The dialog proc returns FALSE thus the default handler is called. There is also another difference that could affect such apps - a MoveWindow(..., TRUE) only marks the background for erasing on Wine, while on Windows is also does an update before the function returns. I figured out that it's palette-related (GetSystemPaletteEntries function is causing problems because it doesn't behave on Wine as it does on Windows) and at this point I've a very raw and hacky fix to X11DRV_GetSystemPaletteEntries that fixes transparency problem. However since the new WoW patch last week, 2.2.3, the game has been completely broken for me and this hanging has become a regular feature. In trying to fix it I wiped all my addons, reinstalled WoW and upgraded Wine to version 9.46. The end result was that NONE of my characters worked at all anymore, not even new ones on new realms. However, after reading this thread here I tried running WoW with the -opengl option and things seem to working now, though I still have more testing to do and I haven't reinstalled the addons yet. Now some of the OpenGL widgets appear correctly. However the main menubar is still overdrawn by the main window background color, though the main window widget is drawn to the correct size (ie, there's a blank white bar at the top where the main menu should be.) So there's a definite improvement in wine 0.9.47, at least here with nVidia 100.14.19 drivers. Are there any settings that control the approaches, or is it an automatic selection? I tried to run the command you gave me, but... somethings goes wrong. When I run the command I get a window which seems transparent or something like that) with as title: DX9 QDT Display window Also I get a long grey window with a lot of the same number right under eachother. The number: 8B5620EC : And that's it. When I press a key (well, I tried space and enter ) my screen goes black and I can't seem to return to my normal desktop or anything. (unless I restart X and log in again :) ). So getting this error I tried running the game with wine /blabla/Fahrenheit.exe but I get ... let me check... yeah I get pretty much the same error. The strange thing is, at least I think it's strange, when I started the game (what I actually always do and did) with winefile (so, just opening winefile, browsing to my Fahrenheit dir en double clicking Fahrenheit.exe) before this debug command it still started without any problems. After running this debug command, I hear the sound, but the display stays black.
