The nvidia drivers don't offer fragment shaders in OpenGL which we need to
support pixel shaders. This is what causes various games not to function on
Wine while they work fine on Windows. Probably some register combiner magic or
emulation is done on Windows.

@Marco Trevisan:
I tried that Osiris app thingy, and it comes with it's own vc2005redist. You
should just install this app on a new ~/.wine. It then loads msvcr80.dll just
fine. However it then run into another bug, loading another dll fails, but
seems that one can be fixed quite easily. I'll have a look into it.

Summary: Touhou regression crash
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.46.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: test
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: karlthepaladin(a)yahoo.com
In version 9.45, touhou games Perfect Cherry Blossom and Imperishable night
work fine. I believe that the crash is related to directdraw in some way...but
the main issue is that the game opens up the loading screen and freezes in
9.46.
This problem seems to be caused by something that was changed in version 9.46
compared to 9.45. Attached is the error log.

I'm trying to use Osiris (http://osiris.kodeware.net/) but I get this when
launching it I get a pop-up error saying me that an application loaded the a
dll in a bad way with error R6034 (the same happens when I try to register
it)...
Those are the errors I get:
fixme:actctx:parse_assembly_elem wrong version
fixme:actctx:parse_manifest_buffer failed to parse manifest
L"H:\\Programmi\\Osiris\\Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest"
fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly

err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for
L"H:\\Programmi\\Osiris\\osiris.exe" failed, status c0000142
I can't install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package due to an
msi error, so I've installed just the needed files
(msvcp.dll,msvcm.dll,msvcr.dll and the Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest) in system32
and/or in the software directory, but no luck to run it...
I always get the mentioned message

This patch unfortunately apparently has a major effect on DAZ Studio 1.7.1.9
I am hoping it is my ATI card and the fglrx drivers, though.
With composite enabled in xorg.conf, DAZ Studio starts fine (apart from
complaining about running in 24 bit colour - see bug 2630). Most of the
interface displays ok, with minor glitches, but the main viewport, where you
manipulate the figure or object loaded, remains stubbornly blank.
With composite disabled, DAZ Studio crashes to desktop after you click "OK" in
the window complaining about running under 24 bit colour.
bash-3.1$ wine --version

display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI RADEON 9600 Series
OpenGL version string: 2.0.6650 (8.39.4)
I will attach 2 logs taken with the settings
WINEDEBUG=+ddraw,+openg,+d3d,+x11drv
and a screenshot showing the viewport problem

Hello,
just revisited.
Turned out the original IAT first thunks table was not the problem but the
process heap checks were.
See securom meta bug http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7065 (comment #24)
for my explanation.
If you have older wine version (<0.9.46), you need my process heap patch
(http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=8235&action=edit) or update to recent
GIT.
The game demo runs fine now.

downloaded 1.53 and ran on wine 0.9.46+
No crash. No copy protection issues - though other user32/window related bugs.
I recommend this bug id to be closed.

Hello,
just revisited.
Yes, the patch helps to fix negative EDIT_EM_Scroll after SB_PAGEDOWN.
Program starts up only to run in another weird user32/window problem.
Small window is displayed with no content.
Double click the window caption and program systray icon will appear.
Double click program systray icon and the program main window will correctly
show.
Is there a reason the patch from
http://winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2007-September/043517.html didn't make
it into repository?
If the changes make it into GIT, this bug can be closed (and another opened for
main window issue).
AFAIK no copy protection issues left.
Regards

I can also confirm that "nice -n 19 Steam.exe" allows updating Steam, in my
case the October 4th 2007 update. I tested it on Wine version 0.9.45, and it
worked just fine. After restarting Steam (not automatically, but manually) it
did complain something about some other program using the registry and it
failed. Next time it launched just fine.

patch
The 'rhs' was added by Oleview when it couldn't find any string - for propput
functions ITypeInfo::GetNames returns a shorter than the number of parameters.
However that doesn't seems to be a problem for OPAS. What was a problem was
that the functions were of type FUNC_PUREVIRTUAL instead of FUNC_DISPATCH. This
patch fixes it however I haven't yet checked if it's 100% correctly. With it
OPAS starts under Wine.

The program starts fine with native oleaut32 (the calendar plug-in requires
mfc42. So far I haven't found it killing the wineserver). By comparing the
oleview output I've found two differences between the program run with native
and built-in oleaut32: the native cannot load stdole2.tlb due to unimplemented
FileMoniker::ParseDisplayName and for [propput] functions the parameter is
called 'rhs' in native and with the function name in builtin. I'll check if any
of this is the reason of the crash.

I'm also encountering this on my Unreal Tournament installation using the
OpenGL renderer. This bug is not really related to Deus Ex but to the unreal
engine itself, more specific: the OpenGL renderer - even newer versions (from
http://cwdohnal.home.mindspring.com/utglr/) have the same error on exit bug.
And it's really annoying, plus the diff by Joshua doesn't break anything.

I'd like to confirm that I'm still getting this in 0.9.46 as well. Same error
as posted above, only happens using D3D, does NOT happen using -opengl. Starts
scrolling that in the terminal window nonstop while zoning into an area that's

It can happen during the initial game sign in while zoning, or if I hearth back

This issue is related to OffscreenRenderingMode=pbuffer ONLY.
Using fbo the problem vanishes even for 0.9.40 and in 0.9.46 using fbo works
perfectly.
Using pbuffer the problem still persists in 0.9.46.

I did not get a setup error in version 0.9.46. (wasn't sure if I should submit
a new one for newer version) When I tried to play a dvd, I got The PowerDVD
DirectShow Decoder filters have not been installed correctly. I click okay and
get a disc with unsupported format in drive d:. Is this an unsupported format,
because of the above error? It does seem to work, except for that. I wonder if
I can install third party dvd decoder.

FWIW,
A quicky preliminary once through shows that the NWN toolset, and the NWN model
view both seem to work perfectly acceptably. (Albeit this is on an NVidia
card.)
There's a minor refresh issue w/ the OpenGL child window in the toolset, and
bouncing back and forth with the menu's, however, its not what I would consider
a serious issue. (Sometimes when moving left to right over the top level menu,
the child window doesn't redraw what was under the previous menu immediately.)
Thanks!

As of today's GIT there is child window support (for cards that support
composite or pixmaps). On my nvidia card sketchup works fine now. Most drivers
are adding support for it. I'm closing the bug now.

Please retest using the latest Wine git version. OpenGL child window rendering
should be working now. Note that it might not work correctly on all drivers
(due to driver bugs) on Nvidia hardware it should work for sure.

As of today there is child window rendering support in Wine git. There are two
backends one which uses the X Composite extension. It requires video drivers
with support for redirected GL windows. At the moment this is only the Nvidia
drivers but other drivers are adding support. I believe the i915tex branch has
support for it already. (It is needed to support rendering of lets say glxgears
on a compiz cube)
The other backend uses xpixmaps. They can be slow depending on the GL
implementation but it is better than nothing. Nvidia accelerates them though as
for composite more drivers will accelerate those soon.
For now I'll leave the bug opened.

Summary: Hebrew text: input impossible

Shows "Swedish vowels" that display on the screen instead of Hebrew when typing
in Wine. The real Hebrew was typed on Windows.
When typing Hebrew in applications under wine, I get different results with
different programs. No program is actually able to enter Hebrew text.
MS Notepad:
The first letter shows up fine. All subsequent keypresses display the same
letter on the screen. Moving the cursor to the first letter and deleting it
transforms the other letters into what they should be. So typing
Shin-Lamed-Vav-MemSofit shows Shin-Shin-Shin-Shin on the screen. Backing up and
deleting the first Shin leaves Lamed-Vav-MemSofit on the screen. Note that the
letters do appear right to left (so the text is readable) however it is
left-aligned. I can successfully paste Hebrew text copied from native Linux
applications and it displays fine.
Ilium Software ListPro:
I imported my ListPro database from Windows. Hebrew text typed on Windows
displays fine, but I cannot add new text. All text that I type in Wine displays
in the wrong encoding, it looks like Swedish vowels. See attachment: the Hebrew
was typed in Windows, and the "Swedish vowels" is text that I tried to add in
Wine. I can successfully paste Hebrew text copied from native Linux
applications.
For reference, this is my setup:

Bonner Katalog does create a Start Menu item (I haven't noticed it because I
was looking in my profile instead of "All Users"). So starting the program with
wine start "Bonner Katalog.lnk" from the start menu also works and starting it
from the Linux start menu on systems that synchronize Windows start menu with
Linux one should also work. So I think we should close this bug as invalid.
I've tested the program a bit and except for the fact that the splash screen
disappears on Wine after a moment while on Windows it is visible during the
whole program initialization and haven't yet noticed anything.

The solution of this problem is much easier than one would expect and doesn't
require any low-level driver. Bonner Katalog must be run with the command line:
C:\DMB\WIN\DMB16G.EXE -cC:\DMB\WIN\DMBWG.mnu -tC:\DMB\WIN\DMBW.trl -aDMB
-pD:\DMB_C\DMB1.DAT
as registered in the Windows start menu. By double-clicking the executable the
program will also fail on Windows XP with the same message (BTW it's impossible
to open device MSCD000 under Windows XP even when using int 21h from a
DOS/Win16 app. I've read in an intrlist that MSCDxxx devices are also not
supported on Windows 95 but I don't know if only for Win32 apps or also
Win16/DOS).
There is a problem with Wine that we don't create any start menu entry for the
program. This can be because as this is a Win16 program the installer may be
using DDE to communicate with the Program Manager as this is not implemented. I
will check this.

APM loading support
With the metafiles support already in it's quite easy to add support for
loading APMs. With this patch the file loads correctly however it still doesn't
display. This may be because there is something wrong with the coordinates - we
ignore the APM header - or because of some fixmes during the start of the

be either:
1) Wine paral·lel port support
2) Wine TWAIN support
What should I try now ? Override native wine libs with windows dll's until it

MSCD
It turns out a device ioctl routine is already implemented in MSCDEX as
handling of the int 2f/AX=1510h (which is another way to pass an ioctl to the
low-level device). This patch implements passing these IOCTL to MSCDEX
(partially in a dirty way) but that seems not to satisfy Bonner Katalog. Bonner
Katalog uses ioctl 0 which returns a pointer to a DOS device header. By setting
memory traps one can see that BK reads the pointers to the strategy and
interrupt routines but it seems it doesn't call them. I'll investigate why.

You might want to try Wine 0.9.46. I see something similar to this in Source
games (Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, etc) and with the latest version,
there's no texture darkness at all. Not 100% sure this is the same bug, but
this bug is listed as affecting CS: S, so it might work, as there was some sRGB

The bug seems to be gone in Wine 0.9.46 - at least it did not show in about 30
minutes of testing.

Strange.
I wonder if this was intended or maybe it has changed accidentally when fixing
another bug.

This problem persist in eMule Plus and Wine 0.9.46.
Now you can see the search history window, but once you do a search and leave
the search box, you can't change the text in the search box.
A workaround to this, is to click in the box right to the search box (it's the
"except" field ), the you press "shift + tab" so you get back to the search
box, then press "del" in keyboard to empty the field and make in writable again
=)

HKEY_PERFORMANCE_DATA hack
This patch adds some fake data beneath the HKEY_PERFORMANCE_DATA
registry branch: performance object 230 (Process) and 238 (Processor),
which pslist is looking for.
It's still not sufficient for pslist (perhaps it wants to see itself
in the process list?) but it may be sufficient for MSVC. Could someone
who owns MSVC check that please?

Try the opengl renderer in .46 if you have a 3D accelerator, even a simple or
old one should do. The DDraw via opengl code was improved a lot in the recent
releases.

I can confirm that the bug still exists with 0.9.46 as described. Going back to
.38 fixed that one but made the currently active cell or whatever the area just
around the character is black. No texture at all there anymore. Needless to say
that I went back to .46 which is more usable.
BTW I can sometimes get a working map with .46. To do this I must start in
800x600, switch to 1024x768 where I'll have trouble to get even the menu
visible and then back to 800x600. Until I change the location and thus the
minimap it's visible and contains correct data.

In wine 0.9.5 it crashes after loading image, and after a long while
wine-0.9.45 crashes a same way. I will open anothe bug, just because this seems
to be a different problem.

I tried Master of Orion II today and found the problem gone!
Recent changes I've done:
- Updated to wine 0.9.46 (I think I still had this on 0.9.45)
- Installed Compiz-Fusion
- Maybe updated NVidia drivers? (did a 'emerge -uDNvat world' in gentoo)
I'll take a closer look, what caused the problem to go away, though I guess it
has something to do with Compiz.

Hi Richard, I have exactly the same problem , my uo client just freezes after
anywhere from 5min to 20min gameplay. I have tried everything from uninstalling
game to updating drivers and nothing worked so far, I still freeze.
You said you are using aRts/OSS/no sound.. can you explain to me what that
means ?I'm not really good in cpu stuff but I would love to learn how it works.
I've been trying to solve this problem for months..
I had to desactivate my account because I freeze all the time
It's strange because I don't have this problem with WorldOfWarcraft or any
other games with better graphics.
Someone told me it might be a sound problem, anyone think this could be the
problem (sound) ? Any help is very appreciated, thank you.

This is keeping itunes 7 from running at all. I read the one that just says
itunes 7(what ever version) could not load, but I thought this would be a
little more helpful. It says that there is an error registering modules when
loading quicktime. I could not uninstall quicktime, because when I choose the
uninstall option it just went ahead and reloaded it. Anyways setup could not
continue, because it encountered errors. At least setup ran. I am using fedora
core 6. I think it is i686. Fedora 6 is not the 64 bit version. I wasn't clear
on that option (platform). I have included a screenshot of setup so you can see
it.

Small clip of err msgs, isolating the problem well.
This small clip of the debug output was directly generated during an isolated
instance of double-clicking on a listview to pop up a window that contains a
text only html view of a news article, retrieved from a server, or rss
provider. The application used was build 210 of MetaTrader 4 from

This set of err messages always come as a pair. It seems that they are related
to a point in an app retrieving a web url. It may be using the objects that
IE6 and everything else uses for retrieving a web page.
My encounter with it tonight was after doubleclick on a listview to pop up a
separate window that shows a text only news article. So I suspect that this
window is using one of the class objects that can retrieve a web page, or a
class object that presents an htmlview view object (mfc). The app required
external source of mfc42.dll to run, as it was not provided by the installer
program. The application was also a forex trading terminal program, and may be
the same as the one presented in the original posting of this bug, branded
differently, MetaTrader4.x from http://metaquotes.net/

appears to be fixed now. I am using 0.9.46.

How thumbnails appear for me
I am not seeing a problem. Although I am having a weird problem where
everything in the listview selects itself and then the listview scrolls itself
from top to bottom whenever I focus the window, this appears to be unrelated.

Do you mean that with these patches InDesign CS3 installs? (for Photoshop CS3
it doesn't seem to be enough)

Hello,
--- quote ---
This implementation of IProgressDialog have some bugs (ending a modeless dialog
with EndDialog is AFAIK not correct, I've had a problem of the dialog not
drawing the Cancel button in modeless mode) and missing features but seems to
work with the Adobe CS3 installers and can be used to test further installer
bugs.
--- quote ---
Good work. Replacing native browseui with your initial implementation seems to
work so far.
Having the ProgressDialog CLSID self registered is a welcomed bonus over the
windows version ;-)
Currently only native windows scripting host (wsh56js) is needed - which is a
good thing (tm).
Hope the msxml installer issues get sorted out .. somehow.
Regards

Adobe CS3 custom action trace, failing to load xml file using msxml3
Hello,
well the custom action stuff now goes somewhat further with previous patches
but fails in the end.
Attached is relevant trace, made with:
WINEDEBUG=+seh,+tid,+msi,+msidb,+ole,+urlmon,+msxml,+relay
The custom action executes a jscript snippet which parses the xml property
file.
"MSXML2.DOMDocument.3.0" COM object is successfully instanciated
msxml:doread -> urlmon FileProtocol is used to read the xml file into memory
>From what I can see in trace: it actually manages to read it from disk.
But somehow the msxml domdoc is later released, destroying the document.
A bit later, the message "-(Adobe)- Unable to load file:
C:\\windows\\temp\\adb443.tmp" is written to msi log.
Somewhat mysterious ...

patch which implements some msxml stuff needed for Adobe CS3 installer
Hello,
as addendum to comment #4 it seems only two msxml3 functions are needed to get
the xml property file generated.
I'm not familar with this msxml3 stuff so the implementation might be hackish
and not that right.
In Adobe CS3 installer case it goes now further without native msxml3 needed.
The xml file gets generated with properties.
Could be a starting point for people implementing msxml3 stuff.

As with Framemaker, the InDesign CS2 passes the copy-protection test on Wine
0.9.46 with a clean ~/.wine but hangs later. It looks like InDesign ships
python and it is querying the attributes of some four files non-existant file
in an endless loop. Maybe there is a conflict between the host python and Wine
python?

The more important patch got into the Git so in Wine 0.9.46 and with a new
~/.wine Photoshop CS2 Trial should work. I don't know how about the full
version but it should be using the same code so I hope it will work.

While installing eFax 4.3 wine has an unhandled page fault.
Starting from a fresh ~/.wine.
rm -rf ~/.wine
winecfg (to recreate new)
Then I install ies4linux.
then "rm ~/.wine; cp ~/.ies4linux/ie6 ~/.wine" to create it with defaults from
IE6
then "wine msgrplus.exe" to install eFax 4.3. The install starts. It asks for
type of installation. Once chosen, wine has an unhandled page fault and dies.
