I'm using an nvidia card (Geforce4 Ti 4800SE), and experiencing this problem,
so this can't be a ATI/Nvidia issue purely... though, it could have something
to do with legacy code in Xorg drivers, as Geforce4 are in the "newer legacy"
group of Nvidia card (i.e. they work with the 1.0.96xx series drivers, not on
any greater version number, IIRC).
One thing I thought about was that maybe this has something to do with Kernel
(scheduling perhaps)? Some distros could have different settings on their stock
kernel... though, I think that is a bit far fetched probably. So I haven't
tried that, since it would require a recompile of the kernel and probably
wouldn't have any effect. But of course, if I become bored and find something,
I'll report here =)
I could also try with a plain SVGA X.org driver (without DRI) just to see what
happens, if I become very bored. I think that would give some insight as to
what is happening...

patch
I wrote some implementation of MoveFiles. It's very ugly and probably in many
aspects incorrect but I think it has all that is needed for the Photoshop CS3
installer. With this the setup.exe gets copied and called but it seems there is
a problem with it as it does nothing. Maybe that's because some files in the
MoveFiles table don't exist - e.g. the installer wants to copy a setup.xml file
from each payload/* subdirectory.

I was wrong. The problem is that the installer tries to install to execute
setup.exe in a temporary directory but this setup.exe is supposed to be created
by the MoveFiles action that is not implemented. I attach the full log if

Maybe this is because the installer has changed but I had more problems with
it. Generally it's similar to the problems with InDesign CS3 in bug #8945. The
further I went was when I used winetricks to install fakeie6, msxml3, mdac28,
installed native browseui and registered CLSID_ProgressDialog and added
MsiSourceListSetInfoW to msi.spec (all the details are in bug #8945). With all
this the installation ends prematurely and the last "constructive" lines seems
to be:
fixme:msi:ACTION_HandleStandardAction unhandled standard action
L"SetODBCFolders"
(after it there are RemoveFolders and MoveFiles - it seems like cleaning after
the installation failed)

I've sent a patch to add the implemented functions to *.spec
(http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2007-September/044511.html). I
also attach the simple scripts that I used to find such functions if someone
wants to try to use it for other DLLs. Maybe with some work it can be improved
to run on the whole wine tree without too much false positives.
As for the other bugs adding a progress dialog should be easy - once I even
started writing it, I can try to finish it. The other bugs seems harder.

I've added a howto in the appdb how to get this version (2.0) and 2.1-beta
running.
Basically version 2.0 runs into 2 problems:
1. msscript.ocx is missing, but wine doesn't implement this, so not a bug
2. The download for M$ Script Engine is failing. After manually installing it
the app starts fine. The url from where the installer is trying to download
just seems to be invalid (doesn't work in a browser either, an old link?), so
this is apparently just a bug in the application.
Version 2.1 only needs msscript.ocx, and installs and starts just fine
Ergo, resolving invalid

Complete system wide tsocksification is supposed to be done by:
LD_PRELOAD=/lib/libtsocks.so application
Sadly however this results in the same probems as experienced above.
This may be useful to know though:
With a fresh .wine, the wine_gecko downloader does successfully download the
control (and is definately using the SOCKS interface), but other stuff doesn't
work, such as iexplore and Crysis.
Sadly I've found myself stuck behind a proxy at uni, so all of a sudden I can't
do anything :)

It's back! All of Photoshop 6, CS, and CS2 now
have this hang. To reproduce, start the app, do File / New
to create a new image, draw a bit with the brush tool,
then resize the layers window by dragging an edge.
Bammo, all of X locks up.
The regression seems to be caused or exposed by the fix
to bug 9697. Reverting that patch makes this bug go
away again.

Roderick Colenbrander asked earlier if that would be an openGL or an Network
problem. It seams to be a problem with Bnet (network). When ever I play an
offline game or on the LAN Warcraft works like a charme. But when I start a
Bnet-Game it crashes during the loading process. Doesn't matter if I try it in
OpenGL-Mode or in D3D-Mode.
My system:
- Ubuntu Feisty 7.04
- Intel Graphic
- Different Wine Versions (right now 0.9.44)
- Different desktop environments (Gnome/KDE/XFCE)
Anybody got something about this issu?
I realy want to play on the Bnet again! It is driving me nuts.
I realised that many people who have this issu seam to have ubuntu feisty.

the issue you see is directx 10 related (dxgi.dll).
If you don't believe, run with +seh,+tid,+loaddll,+relay to see yourself where
the exception comes from.
Again: Not a secuROM issue.
Please make sure you start the bioshock demo either with "-dx9" command line
switch or disable load of builtin "d3d10.dll" (winecfg)!
There are enough dx9 bugs waiting to be fixed ... ;-)
Please do not use this bug id if you are NOT absolutely sure it's secuROM
related.

I have tested this with both the Bioshock Demo and the Crysis Beta.
Crysis Beta loads flawlessly (and is stopped later on by network issues, that's

Bioshock Demo however doesn't even seem to get as far as DX bugs, I'll attach

Hello,
ok, I tested more game demos which suffer from same issues mentioned in this
bug report.
Most of the game demos employ late securom versions (7.x) but I think I got all
show stoppers for now.
Beware: some demos suffer/die very quickly due to wined3d/dx related bugs.
Don't blame me on it ;-)
I tested my workarounds with the following demos mentioned in this bug report:
"Bioshock" (dies due to dx bugs, even with "-dx9")
"World in Conflict" (same, dies due to dx bugs)
"Tomb raider anniversary"
"UFO: Afterlight"
=====
The 800x error codes are related to PEB/process flags and heap flags checked by
securom protection.
It's not much fun to debug the code due to obfuscation and code splicing
techniques. Anti-debugging tricks everywhere to make life a misery.
Down to the metal ... what does the protector actually complain about?
I removed obfuscation instructions and added some comments for better
understanding of the code snippets.
"NtGlobalFlag"
--- quote ---
mov eax, fs:[18h] ; get TEB
mov eax, [eax+30h] ; get PEB
mov eax, [eax+68h] ; PEB->NtGlobalFlag
test eax, 70h ; if set -> debugged (FLG_HEAP_ENABLE_FREE_CHECK |
FLG_HEAP_ENABLE_TAIL_CHECK |
FLG_HEAP_VALIDATE_PARAMETERS)
--- quote ---
This is fine so far.
Wine does not use this field (unlike windows loader) and initializes it to
zero.
"Heap Flags":
--- quote ---
mov eax, fs:[18h] ; get TEB
mov eax, [eax+30h] ; get PEB
mov eax, [eax+18h] ; PEB->ProcessHeap
mov eax, [eax+0Ch] ; ProcessHeap->Flags
test eax, 60h ; if set -> process is debugged (remark: bit 1 is even set when
not debugged = HEAP_GROWABLE)
--- quote ---
"Force Flags":
--- quote ---
mov eax, fs:[18h] ; get TEB
mov eax, [eax+30h] ; get PEB
mov eax, [eax+18h] ; PEB->ProcessHeap
mov eax, [eax+10h] ; ProcessHeap->ForceFlags
test eax, eax ; if set -> process is debugged
--- quote ---
If one is really interested in the meanings/workings of these flags, read up
MSDN documention about global flags/loader (pietrek columns) and play with the
neat "gflags.exe" utility which comes with debugging tools for windows.
Basically the flags are all set by loader when a process is initialized.
Because of the flags, debug heaps and the like are used for tracking down app
heap related problems.
PEB.NtGlobalFlag = 0x0 if the process is not debugged.
PEB.NtGlobalFlag = 0x70 if debugged (FLG_HEAP_ENABLE_TAIL_CHECK |
FLG_HEAP_ENABLE_FREE_CHECK | FLG_HEAP_VALIDATE_PARAMETERS)
(can be overridden by registry settings, read MSDN or play with gflags.exe)
If PEB.NtGlobalFlags == 0x0 (not debugged) then
PEB.ProcessHeap.Flags = 0x0 or 0x2 (HEAP_GROWABLE)
PEB.ProcessHeap.ForceFlags = 0x0
If PEB.NtGlobalFlags > 0x0 (process debugged) then some flags are copied to
PEB.ProcessHeap.Flags > 0x2 (HEAP_GROWABLE | xxxx flags)
PEB.ProcessHeap.ForceFlags > 0x0 (flags copied here too)
=============
Ok, to make securom happy about the 800x error we have to do the following:
Make sure PEB.ProcessHeap.Flags and PEB.ProcessHeap.ForceFlags exist as fields
in wine internal process HEAP structure and initialize them accordingly.
This is the comment from wine "dlls/ntdll/heap.c":
--- quote dlls/ntdll/heap.c ---
/* Note: the heap data structures are based on what Pietrek describes in his
* book 'Windows 95 System Programming Secrets'. The layout is not exactly
* the same, but could be easily adapted if it turns out some programs
* require it.
*/
--- quote dlls/ntdll/heap.c ---
Uhm well .. talk about "easily adapted" ;-)
Unfortunately parts of code make assumptions about the HEAP structure
layout/field offsets when creating and initializing heaps/subheaps e.g.
HEAP_CreateSubHeap() and HEAP_InitSubHeap().
Just adding some fake variables to HEAP structure to force the field offsets
does NOT work without further code changes (SUBHEAP is expected to be the first
field member)!
To test the findings with minimal (non intrusive) code changes, use the SUBHEAP
structure itself.
Just pad the structure with DWORD's to leave room for these fields:
--- snip dlls/ntdll/heap.c ---
typedef struct tagSUBHEAP
{
/* HACKHACK */
DWORD pad1; /* ofs+0 */
DWORD pad2; /* ofs+4 */
DWORD pad3; /* ofs+8 */
DWORD Flags; /* [ofs+0C] = 0 to make securom happy */
DWORD ForceFlags; /* [ofs+10] = 0 to make securom happy */
DWORD align8;
/* HACKHACK */
DWORD size; /* Size of the whole sub-heap */
DWORD commitSize; /* Committed size of the sub-heap */
DWORD headerSize; /* Size of the heap header */
...
--- snip dlls/ntdll/heap.c ---
In a real implementation the "/* HACKHACK */" fields would belong to (primary)
HEAP structure.
You can use the space of DWORD pad1-3 as you like, just make sure the DWORDs at
offsets 0xC and 0x10 exist.
The additional "align8" DWORD is used for alignment. Some wine code barfs if
alignment is not forced (HEAP_FindFreeBlock).
Due to default initialization these fields get initialized to zero and that
makes securom happy.
Well - at least for this case :|
==================
Now having worked around 800x errors, we jump into next one:
--- snip ---
"A required security module can not be activated. This program cannot be
executed (7000)" Error
--- snip ---
This error occurs when SecuROM has found one or more CD/DVD emulation tools
running.
Well thats not the case in wine. Further tracing/debugging shows that securom
populates some registry keys:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi" ...
and
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\MountedDevices" ...
The latter one does not exist.
Simply creating the Key "MountedDevices" makes securom happy.
==================
And? Well. That's all - the game should start now ;-)
Be aware I did not test any "retail" stuff which comes with real CD/DVD media,
just the "media-less" demos.
Have fun filing bug reports for real game issues (hint:
WINEDEBUG=+d3d,+d3d_shader,...")
Regards

Are there any updated patches for 0.9.45 or even wine-git? The most current
patch available (2007-04-09) only works for the 0.9.34 release.

...I knew that. That's what happens when you drink too much before lunch.
I think what got me was that
$ winepath -u ".\Components\"
seems to get me stuck in an endless list of appends. (It's that final \ of
course.)
What's really puzzling about this is that even when Components is copied into
c:/Program Files/Components/TAL3DEngine
the game fails. Part of the problem may lie in the game searching for
Components\TAL3DEngine\ (note that trailing slash), when there's no
subdirectory named TAL3DEngine, just a DLL named TAL3DEngineR.dll
Or am I on the wrong track here?

Of course this won't work, but
winepath -u "..\..\Components\TextureManager"
does. Don't forget you are on *NIX and backslash is not a path separator.

As has been reported, the Starfleet Command 3 binary executes, then
successfully plays the intro movies, and then exits before the game is run,
returning the following error:
> DLL Load Error
>
> Unable to load 'TAL3DEngine' component.
> GetLastError() reported: Invalid parameter
>
> Paths attempted:
> ..\..\Components\TAL3DEngine\
> ..\..\Components\TextureManager\
> .\Components\
When the winepath utility is used to convert these Windows paths to Unix, it
returns incorrect paths. The problem seems to occur when converting the ".."
to the parent directory.
$ winepath -u ..\..\Components\TAL3DEngine
/home/vmcdonal/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program

I downloaded Steam yesterday and tried running it with Wine 0.9.45 and had the
same problem ("Steam is already running"). I tried running WINEDEBUG=+all wine
Steam.exe and this lead instead to a deadlock (needing kill -KILL). I also
tried on my laptop and got simillar results.
This suggests a timing issue. Is there anything we can do to help chase down
this bug further?
P.S. Using nice is a workaround here too.

Perhaps the A version is wrapper around the W version on Windows.
It fits the symptoms, especially since the A version error is about
memory allocation.
mono calls the wide version, so I added tests for that one as well.

Hello,
ok, found it. Try the same code with "W" version ... go figure.
I accidentally compiled with unicode flags and didn't explicitly specify "A"
version so my FormatMessage() was actually the "W" call.
Typical micro$oft brain damage. Obviously they want to punish developers ;-)

Hello,
--- quote ---
My tests thus far show that when FORMAT_MESSAGE_ALLOCATE_BUFFER
is specified (like mono does) the API returns ERROR_NOT_ENOUGH_MEMORY
in the lpBuffer == NULL case.
--- quote ---
ERROR_NOT_ENOUGH_MEMORY == lasterror 0x8?
Interesting.
My system: Windows XP SP2 returns last error 0x57 (decimal 87) -> which
translates to "invalid parameter".
I flipped flags, codes and reset all parameters to zero (FormatMessage(
0,0,...,0)), the last error code remains the same.
This can only mean that NULL ptr param check seems to take precedence over
other parameter validations.
Please post your exact snippet where you got ERROR_NOT_ENOUGH_MEMORY last error
so i can verify it on my system.

I hex dumped argv[] to be sure there is no error in wine's
msvcrt_argvtos_wide(argv,' ') conversion.
It seems mono/glib messes up its command line when using windows style paths
(with spaces and backslashes).
I digged into their sources where they build command line and spawn AOT
compiler and found g_spawn_command_line_sync() call.
The glib documentation to this call:
http://library.gnome.org/devel/glib/unstable/glib-Spawning-Processes.html#g…
--- quote ---
On Windows, please note the implications of g_shell_parse_argv() parsing
command_line. Parsing is done according to Unix shell rules, not Windows
command interpreter rules. Space is a separator, and backslashes are special.
Thus you cannot simply pass a command_line containing canonical Windows paths,
like "c:\\program files\\app\\app.exe", as the backslashes will be eaten, and
the space will act as a separator. You need to enclose such paths with single
quotes, like "'c:\\program files\\app\\app.exe' 'e:\\folder\\argument.txt'".
--- quote ---
This is not done in mono. The whole commandline args to argv[] parsing gets
messed up - with the result you see in wine trace.
Ok, there is something left on the wine side I mentioned before.
Could you please fix wine's FormatMessageA/W to check for NULL lpBuffer?
--- snip dlls/kernel32/format_msg.c ---
DWORD WINAPI FormatMessageA(
DWORD dwFlags,
LPCVOID lpSource,
DWORD dwMessageId,
DWORD dwLanguageId,
LPSTR lpBuffer,
DWORD nSize,
va_list* _args )
{
...
if( !lpBuffer)
{
SetLastError( ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER);
return 0;
}
...
}
--- snip dlls/kernel32/format_msg.c ---
Add the check to both, "A" and "W" Versions.
This prevents crashing with NULL lpBuffer argument supplied and matches windows
behaviour (windows returns invalid param).
Add a simple test case with FormatMessage() + lpBuffer = NULL to verify.

I am having this same issue in wine 0.9.44 and 0.9.45. After a certain amount
of time, sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes an hour) the application I'm running
under Wine will freeze. The window accepts no keyboard/mouse input and does
not refresh its window contents. When this happens, I am forced to 'kill -9'
the process.
The application I notice this happening most in is Silkroad Online, which is
listed in the WineHQ AppDB. I have tried configuring Wine for 'managed' mode
and 'unmanaged mode' as well as creating a Wine virtual desktop, or no desktop.
Each setting has the same result. Once the window freezes, the process itself
continues to run. Other users can see that I'm still online and can send me
messages. I just don't receive them because of the frozen window.
OS: Ubuntu 7.04 AND PCLinuxOS 2007
CPU: AMD Athlong XP 3200+
RAM: 512 MB DDR SDRAM

Hello again,
if you have more games/applications which suffer from same symptoms, please
post links to demo downloads.
I want to make sure I got all Securom 6.x/7.x "security check" related issues
before I post further information.
comment #21 "World in Conflict" Securom part now works and but the game later
dies due to DirectX issues, which should be separate bug reports.
comment #19 "tomb raider anniversary" duplicate
(http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9487) works fine.
It should be noted that using "Vista" configuration Securom skips some security
checks but I don't consider this a solution at all.
Securom should work with all wine OS configurations.

Both the bugs described in this report ("won't install" and "ISIS/Draw not

I don't know for how long it has been fixed, but it does work under 0.9.45.

Thanks for writing this report and identifying many issues with the game.
Something like this probably should go in appdb and not in bugzilla. This bug
is specifically only for the intro film crash, so you provided way more
information than necessary.
For all your other problems, please file new bugs if they are not already in
the bugs database. One bug per report please.

I've noticed several bugs with the full (+NODVD crack) version of the game.
Firstly, on launch, Wine stopped immediately saying that H5_Game.exe required
d3dx9_25.dll. I can either copy this DLL over from my Windows installation or
copy d3dx8.dll.so to d3dx9_25.dll.so. Both solutions will get me by with no
apparent problems.
After disabling the logo movies, the main menu will pop up with the "priest
fighting the devil" animation. If I go to the video options and select my
TwinView resolution of 2560x1024 (my normal X resolution), it will momentarily
activate both of my monitors, but then resort to just my left monitor with the
text being 2x fatter than it should be. After mousing over the text, it
redraws in the correct aspect ratio.
If I start a fresh, brand new game, it will start loading up the map and then
ask me to "Press any key". Whether I press any key or every key it, just sits
there, asking me to press the key again. The keyboard functions fine when
entering the player name from the main menu however, so it's not a systematic
problem.
I get past this by launching the game on a Windows machine, saving the game,
and copying the saved data over to my Linux machine.
At this point, I can try to load up my saved game in Wine. I noticed that if I
have my distributed.net client running at the lowest (actual, highest
numerical) priority, loading the game can take over 1 hour on my K8. When I
shut down dnetc, it loads up in seconds. So there is some thread priority
problem there.
So now I'm finally in the game. There are a few drawing/texture glitches that
seem to occur randomly. But one that is fairly consistent is going to one of
the Elf castles, where the water texture either looks really really nice, or
like randomly shaking garbage. Interestingly enough, you can usually clear
this condition by trying to recruit some creatures from the castle.
I'm also having a lot of trouble with game controls. All of the pop-up help
tips, telling you which shortcut keys you can hit to do certain actions, all
say "Mouse_Axis_X" is the "key" to activate any given command. My Windows
machine shows what the correct shortcuts are in the popups. When I hit the
appropriate keys, nothing happens in Wine. Yet I can type in the name of my
saved games just fine, so again, it's not a systematic problem. Also I cannot
rotate or pan around the map with the middle and right mouse buttons. I think
this is related to the controls issue. There's probably some configuration
file to define these actions which is not being read at all or at least not
correctly.
All of the above, I report with Wine 0.9.44. When I updated to Wine 0.9.45, I
saw the app start to lock up consistently. Everything appears fine and normal
starting up and loading up a saved game, but once you start panning around the
map a bit and pulling up your hero's stats, my system starts to "hiccup"
violently. Lots of disk access and choppy animation. Then when you return to
the map and pan around a bit, some of the status windows are no longer drawn or
refreshed properly. A few seconds after seeing this happen, the app will lock
up.
So it looks like there was a regression for this game in 0.9.45.
I hope these comments are well-received, and I'm extremely grateful that I can
run the game at all in Linux!

Hello,
well i looked into the matter. Some hours of nasty debugging (windows of
course) ...
First: don't try to fool around by patching IsDebuggerPresent() or
CheckRemoteDebuggerPresent().
The protector "probe" writes directly to PEB->teb() area to verify with API
returns to detect inconsistencies (hooks or fake value returns).
The showstopper why Securom 6.x, 7.x doesn't currently work under wine is due
to mismatching process heap structure layouts.
The protector accesses process heap structure members which do not exist in
wine or have other meanings.
The current layout is the choice made by wine developers losely based on
infamous Pietrek books.
To fix this issue not only the process heap structure layout need to be
adjusted but some parts of the process heap creation/init code need to be
rewritten too.

I am the poster reporting about problems with newer wine version (original
posting August 28th in Office 2003 main thread).
I don't know much about regression; however, I do know that I DID start with a
clean .wine and a few subsequent steps, as documented in my detailed
submission. There was no way getting around the "not registered for the current
user" problem, unless I downgraded from 0.9.44 to 0.9.37. (Believe me, I tried
this at least 5 if not 10 times.) On 0.9.37, it worked immediately, I had a
running Word 2003 (I haven't tested the other office apps much).
Then, I tried upgrading wine after having all the installation and successful
registration to version 0.9.44. Word did not work any more (sorry, I forgot the
details, but I'd be happy to test this again if this is useful). Simply
downgrading wine to 0.9.37 (without touching the home/.wine directory at all!)
made the application work again.
Now, does that not look like a regression?
I did the same thing with 0.9.45, it has again problems, although I believe
other ones. What I have not tried yet is a completely new installation from
scratch using 0.9.45.
I hope this is helpful.

I'm having a similar problem, except it's the = key (the one to the left of
backspace). The key itself does work, and I'm able to type it into input and
chat boxes and windows and such within WoW, but not when trying to activate an
action bound to it, or bind another action to it.
I aso commonly switch between US Intl. and Latin American keyboard layouts in
GNOME. Under LA, the = key becomes ¿¡, but it still doesn't work under WoW.
(In other words, the issue seems not to be character-dependent but
key-dependent, as I can't use that physical key as a keybinding no matter what
character it would output).
Running Ubuntu 7.04 with GNOME 2.18 and Wine 0.9.45. This is on a Dell Inspiron
5160. As far as I can tell, there's no other program that has = or ¿ bound to
any action in particular, so I'm almost certain it's not external interference.

Since the original post of this bug, the mouse has been patched with one of the
said patches to make it visible. However, it is still invisible immediately
after an area is loaded, and I usually have to move the mouse to the right
twice while holding the right mouse button to make it visible. The game(Guild
Wars) is playable, but having to hold a button down and move the mouse just to
make the mouse visible after each area load is a bit annoying. Is there
anything that I could add such as mouse debug logs or something that would aid
in fixing the rest of this bug?

This bugs seems to make Windows CodeBack (WCB) unusable. This is the "official"
disassembler for Win16 mentioned in the Wine HOWTOs.
Other Win16 programs (actually, all that I tried) are not working.
It is my opinion that this issue should have an increased priority.

Not a regression afterall, it has the same bug in wine0.9.36, most likely the
poster on the appdb didn't start with a clean .wine directory after downgrading
as it suffers from the same bug. Office will install after running the
installation disk a 2nd time and choosing reinstall.

Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=module&c=8008 for

Which means that securom thinks there is a debugger attached.

There are two issues here. The crash happens because HalGetBusData is
unimplemented. You can work around that by setting the Windows version to
Win98. The issue with caps is that 3DMark06 wants MaxSimultaneousTextures to be
8 and MaxPointSize to be 64.0f. On a typical nVidia card these are currently 4
and 63.75f.

Yahoo Music Jukebox is also affected by this

Summary: Regression: wine versions newer than 0.0.20050310-1.2 do
not use LAN?
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.44.
Platform: PC
URL: http://borsa.telematica.it
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-net
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: nasr.laili(a)tin.it
Hi!
I tried once again to upgrade my old 0.0.20050310-1.2 [later "ow"] wine
version to the 0.0.25-2.1 or 0.0.44 ["nw"] but, as happened with all previous
versions newer than the 20050310-1.2, I cannot use correctly an .exe file.
This is what happens exactly (more or less) and is similar to what already
reported by somebody else in bug #5838
[Using Debian Etch on a PC connected with ADSL]
-----------------------------------------------
When I launch the .exe with ow, I must reset userid and password in
order for the .exe to access a web site and get my preset list of stocks with
updated prices.
Using nw, instead, I'm immediately presented with an 'offline' obsolete
list and there is no way to get an updated one. The warning:
'RasEnumConnectionA Ras support is not implemented! Configure program to
'use LAN connection/winsock instead! ^^^^^^^
comes up any time I try to connect to the web URL to update data.
I also tested nw with the ow's config file, but nothing changes.
The .exe file is a closed proprietary file and I cannot change any settings as
concernes the way to access the web. On the other hand this file works
perfectly with older wine versions (20050310 and older). So, if the 'configure
program' refers to the .exe I have no chance whatsoever to use new wine
versions ;-(.
Thnaks, any way, for the wonderful work you have done!
Regards,
Ennio

I have something new to report. Recently, I replaced my old ATI Rage 128 video
card with an NVidia GeForce 7100 GS, and downloaded the NVidia kernel patches.
When I rebooted, MOO2 worked just fine; the problems described above no longer
happened. Is there any code in Wine that is different for ATI and NVidia
graphics cards?

Yes, both winboard and the testcase work properly now.
But looking over the diffs, it occurred to me that paste probably uses the same
updated routine. Using the testcase I submitted, I selected some text, hit
ctrl-C and then was able to expand the limit using ctrl-V. Windows won't allow
that.

That fixme can be ignored. Apps usually calls WTInfoW only to check if wintab
is initialized correctly. When I will have time I will check OpenCanvas - that
might be something not related to tablets (unless you have this happens only
when the tablet it plugged into the computer?).
However as I understand you have no stack overflow but also no tablet support
in Flash? There are two problems I know of - on laptops with touchpads and once
I had a problem with a hot-plugged tablet - I had to restart the computer with
the tablet plugged during the boot for Wine to be able to open it. If this is
not the case could you attach a WINEDEBUG=+wintab32 log?

Well, recompiling (making sure that it has those latest wintab commits) I now
get a mix of both messages:
fixme:wintab32:X11DRV_WTInfoW Return proper size
*** stack smashing detected ***: oC45Pe.exe terminated
So now it's WTInfoW (instead of WTInfoA) doing a Return Proper size, and not
will a nil stub. Is this different or am I still compiling it wrong?
yes, that's the OpenCanvas program.

All these bugs are about the SafeCast copy protection in Adobe programs. They
are very similar, only the code in Photoshop CS2 is slightly different - it
doesn't use ConvertSecurityDescriptorToStringSecurityDescriptor on the service
ACL. Maybe that is because as I've read in the first releases the Adobe licence
manager service that runs with LocalSystem priviledges was created with a NULL
ACL - this allows everyone to do everything with the service, including
changing the binary name and starting it. Maybe newer Adobe programs tries to
detect that case and fix it.

That's very strange as the line that prints "fixme:wintab32:WTInfoW (0, 0,
(nil)): stub" have been removed by the last commits (committed some 16 hours
ago). Maybe try to run wine from the build directory - e.g.
`/path/to/wine/sources/wine Photoshop` and report if it worked. I haven't tried
OpenCanvas - this is this program: http://www.portalgraphics.net/en/ ?

Glad to see this has progressed. However, I just updated my git tree to the
latest set of patches.
Flash still spits out:
fixme:wintab32:WTInfoW (0, 0, (nil)): stub
However, OpenCanvas seems to spit out something a little different:
fixme:wintab32:X11DRV_WTInfoA Return proper size
*** stack smashing detected ***: oC45Pe.exe terminated
It repeats that over and over again as I hit OK on an error that now says:
An External Exception: 80000101
Checked my GIMP it still works fine.

After doing the same steps as for Framemaker 7.2 (see bug #8191) InDesign
passes the copy-protection. It then hangs on "Initializing SING gaiji system".
On the console I have:

fixme:ole:PointerFree unhandled data type=12
fixme:msvcrt:MSVCRT__sopen : pmode 0x01b6 ignored
But I don't know if that's related to the hang.

copy-protection working. One have to do the steps needed for Photoshop CS2
described in bug #7882 and additionally apply the patch from comment #7

With some patches I can start Photoshop CS2 with the copy-protection working
properly. One needs:
- apply the patch
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2007-September/044164.html and
create a new wineprefix or create manually some four keys in
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components
- get the latest Wine Git to have the latest widl and apply the four patches
starting from
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2007-September/044230.html - the
last patch doesn't work even with the latest widl (as of 21 Sep 2007) and the
result files needs to be patched manually with the patches from the mail (in
fact one needs only to fix the default value of the Object Name so if I would
have problems having the new infrastructure committed before 0.9.46 I can write
a small patch for the current advapi32)
- apply the patch from comment #3 to have the service process shutdown when the
service ends
With all these Photoshop CS2 should work when installed in a new wineprefix (if
you try to run Photoshop CS2 from a prefix where you where running CS2 before
applying all these patches it might not work - but I didn't check this very
carefully).

Try using the OpenGL driver for rendering. There is a updated version on the
net:
http://cwdohnal.home.mindspring.com/utglr/
This site is primarily about a UT OpenGL renderer, but there is also a updated
version of the OpenGL renderer. Just overwrite the one after updating Deus Ex
to version 1112fm.
You probably also have to manually edit the DeusEx.ini in the System directory.
The new renderer has a lot of new options that can be interesting for a recent
system with a powerful gfx card. You can also change the resolution of the
renderer there. This isn't possible in-game. I also experienced this, the
resolution I can select in-game is 32bit 800x800, nothing above.
I only have a fullscreen problem (and a sound skipping problem that can be
fixed by reducing CPU clock) when starting Deus Ex directly in wine. Then I
still have both xfce panels displayed at the top and bottom of the screen.
I just start a emergency X-session (it uses twm). Then I have no trouble at
all.

When I used an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 card the game ran quite well, but still
slowed down when moving the mouse. The modification to surface nro the lock
mode setting had any effect.
Now I upgraded the machine to a GeForce 6200A, and the performance is quite
bad. Here the game redraws choppily without the modification together with
'readtex', but the performance is still bad.
There's also a problem in first NOD mission: Whenever I move the mouse the game
starts redrawing choppily to a shade of green, then back again.
Is there anything I can do to help? I have an Intel 865G mobile, GeForce 6200A
128 MB, GeForce 6600GT 256 MB and a GeForce 7600GT 256 MB, all AGP. And I can
re-insert the FX5500.

Hi there,
I recently installed the german version of Deus Ex, patched it to 1112fm_d1 and
installed a recent OpenGL renderer (dxglr18).
Everything runs fine (except sound, but that's another story) but I also
encounter the error on exit bug. It's rather annoying because it happens before
xrandr can switch back to the correct resolution of my CRT, so leaving me with
a 1024x768 resolution and I have to switch back manually. The patch indead
fixes this, so I would recommend to apply it. I also tested it with Half-Life
and CS, and there it also seems to work.
Regards,
Tobias
