There's a stub now for setupapi.dll.RegistryDelnode. As there's no response
from reporter , assuming this is fixed.
Reopen bug if you still run into problems.

confirmed here also,
using wine 9.0.44, dual GF6600GT with latest drivers, Asus A8N-sli mobo and
onboard soundcard.
-nosound doesnt work for me, the error often occurs after entering a new
screen, as after some missions, which is especially nmasty if you just did the
mission sucessfully, but get the error then, you will have to do the mission
again.

I have this same problem on "The First Encounter" and "The Second Encounter".
The server doesn't have to be dedicated either. Just joining any local network
game will fail when the percentage gets to 97% to 99%.
Using wine is pretty much the only solution to play these games as the "fall
through the floor" bug on the Linux version makes them unplayable on Linux
IMHO.
I am using wine 0.9.44.

The tool windows really should be managed, that's not going to change. And yes,
that fixes the bug because the resize is now done by the window manager instead
of being done internally in Wine.
The problem with resizing inside Wine is that we need to grab the X server, and
depending on what the app does during the resize this is quite likely to
deadlock.
Wine has no business resizing top level X windows, that's the job of the window
manager.

In wine-0.9.44, those child windows appear to be managed,
which seems wrong, but however inconvenient it is,
it did seem to stop the hang. Once those windows are
fixed again to no longer be managed (please?), the
bug might uncloak.

I think I've found a fix/workaround: open up the UT2004.ini file in the System/

ViewportManager=SDLDrv.SDLClient
To:
ViewportManager=WinDrv.WindowsClient
This allowed the editor to open for me. Unfortunately, the editor still doesn't
work (toolbars/menus open, but nothing is rendered).

As for comment #8 try Wine 0.9.44. Older Wine had problems running Win16
application on noexec protected systems (which is usually enabled only on
64-bit systems) but Wine 0.9.44 should work fine. The crash in comment #4 is in
a 32-bit application - so if it is still present with current Wine you should
open a different bug report for it. If the crash in comment #1 still present?

You'd have to do the same for other fonts, in the place this hack adjusts the
font size. Add an ERR to write the font names css is using, try to find the one
that causes the crash, and add a simmilar hack to reduce the glyph size.

But assuming I only ever intend to use wine for CS:S (probably not the case,
but just for arguments sake) would this bug be fixable via applying the same
hard-coded limit into the appropriate location in freetype.c ? - and where
would that be? :-)

recent months, but after upgrading from 0.9.40 to 0.9.44 recently, the
file-open dialog crashes. While navigating to C:\Program

Double-click Program Files (again) and it crashes.
Reverting Wine to 0.9.40 works.

Don't change original reported Wine version.
Why do you think it's an ole bug?
Really looks like a poorly coded program if it depends on one particular
version of plugin that it doesn't even install itself.

I have wine 0.9.44, and have tested this with Provision's release of half life
collector's edition.
I didn't want to install steam, but rather I directly launched hl2.msi:
$ wine msiexec /i hl2.msi
As I am writing this, installation is proceeding correctly and setup is copying
files.
(the only bug I noticed was a redraw issue with a couple of buttons and a bunch
of xxxxx showing for component & component size info at the component
installation selection screen)

Currently I've found a workaround to this bug by using the Orca msi editing
software through wine and editing the IE6 launch condition. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827021 for more information.
I will be documenting this on http://bbciplayerlinux.sf.net. There's another
bug with the installer currently, but as of yet I've done nothing about it.

I can confirm that the lag I suffered was not a problem of wine, it was with
ATI proprietary drivers and r300 DRI opensource drivers.
Recently I got a nVidia card and all problems disappeared.
But for those who can't or don't want to change their graphic card, I suggest
using wine-0.9.28 with a native dinput.dll into the game directory, it was the
less laggy conbination using ati cards.

under the text but it seems to be something different and I would need to check
with newer freetype if that's not a font problem.

These are the registry entries from my windows-install. I think if you import
them ( "regedit codec.reg" ) and install the appropriate codec-dlls (look in
the attached file "codec.reg"), you should be able to display all your AVI's
just fine.
If the codec installers itsself fail to set these entries, and they do set them
on windows, you should file a bug against the codec-installers. For now i'll
resolve this one as invalid; I'll add a howto in the appDB for how to display
the avi's

Lots of people are playing WoW on Wine. This problem has most likely been a
driver bug or perhaps a bug in the opengl32 code. I haven't heard problems from
users of 'older' Nvidia cards for a long time, so I expect the problems to be

Yes, this is a font bug.
The source engine uses fonts to render the names and weapon symbols. It creates
a d3d surface for them and uses GetGlyphOutline to read the font symbol into
that surface.
Unfortunately the surface has a fixed size, and if GetGlyphOutline returns a
bigger glyph than hl2 expects, it causes an overflow on the stack and the
return address or a class instance pointer that is safed on the stack gets
overwritten, and the game crashes a few instructions later.
This is essentially a hl2 bug, because it should honor the size returned by
ggo, rather than finding it's own or hardcoding it. Beyond that, I am not sure
if Wine or freetype is to be blamed for rendering the font differently, but if
it is freetype, then we have a problem. Freetype doesn't aim for bug-for-bug
compatiblity with windows as far as I know.

(In reply to comment #29)
After submitting my comment (#27) I did some poking around in the source code
(for 0.9.43) and found the problem with the registry key import. After coming
up with my own solution I noticed that there was a much nicer one in the GIT
repository (presumably the one Jason submitted). From looking at the code and
then fixing the import problem and running Steam it was clear that this is not
the issue with games not showing up as purchased.
But from capturing the output of WINEDEBUG=+server I noticed that the
get_key_value function was called 4 times for
HKCU/software/valve/steam/users/<uid>/licenses. The first three times the
license value returned was truncated about three quarters of the way through,
but on the fourth call the whole key value was returned. This seems to support
my speculation that Steam is asking for the licenses key and not getting the
value it wants. I did look at the code in server/registry.c (where the
get_key_value function is) but there was nothing that jumped out at me as the
cause of the problem.

I do not know if this issue is directly linked, but I think it is, so here
goes..
Using the patch from #92 ( http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=6853 ) and
to the best of my knowledge also without, CS:S seems to still crash when faced
with rendering a nickname containing certain chars. Which chars this is, I do
not know...
However, it seems to be able to render them in the 'onjoin' message (eg.
"weirdname joined the server") but not in the player list accessed by TAB, nor
if they are killed or kills someone and this is announced in the top right
corner...
This leads me to conclude that it's either a font-related bug, or an
encoding-related bug.
My best guess would be that it's a problem in dlls/gdi32/freetype.c - but I do
not know the code well enough to dig too much around for a solution...
I have noticed this problem in 0.9.44, 0.9.43 and 0.9.42, though, I cannot say
for sure if I have tested all of them without the patch...
(without it, it crashes *all* the time)

With this patch to genereate a button #1 press when there is normal pressure, I
can use pressure-sensitivity in Photoshop 6. I will check other versions of
Photoshop. It won't work yet in >= CS2 as they are using Unicode API to access
it (it's not hard to implement it but I think it's better to fix it for older
Photoshops before). I have an impression that the range of pressure values is
smaller on Linux than on Windows but I haven't compared the numbers yet - maybe
it's only an impression.

Try to run rm -rf ~/.wine if you have used default WINEPREFIX. This will delete
all registry entries and all files in your WINE's drive_c directory. It will be
automatically (cleanly) recreated if you run wineprefixcreate. If you don't
want to delete .wine then use mv instead of rm to rename it.

I am running PCLinuxOS-2007 and accidentally downloaded Internet Explorer 6.0
and installed it with WINE before I read the relevant help FAQ at WINE HQ
saying NOT to install Explorer as it can break WINE.
Well, it DID break WINE and I am no longer able to use it. AND the uninstaller
in Software Manager won't uninstall IE6.
I tried a complete uninstall of Wine from Synaptic (also the wine library, by
the way) and re-downloading it and re-installing it and it didn't make any
difference. When I try to Execute a program from within Program Manager wine
shuts down when I open the folder that contains IE6. (I think that's why it
shuts down, but I really don't know what is going on with this.)
Is there anything that I am able to do to get IE6 out of my machine all
together?
Thanks.

For vidc.i420 i think you have to set it to "msh263.drv" and copy that from a
windows partition to system32. I'll have a look tomorrow to that.
Anyway, it looks like you'd better file a bug against the codecs installers in
wine. They seem to be the problem here. For that we'd have to check, how they
install in windows, and if the installation in wine (registry-keys basically)
differs from that in windows
I'll have a look soon

Thank you very much, it seems to work now (at least most of it).
I set wine to win2000, installed DivX, Xvid, ffdshow, some mjpeg decoder and
msvc6 dlls.
I also set this registry key (some others appear at installation of the
codecs).
I420 doesn't work with divx.dll (if a string "vidc.i420"="divx.dll" is added),
but if the fourcc is renamed to YV12 (with avifix), it works.
Some codecs from codec packs seem to work, others don't. For example, the vfw
i420 codec that is included in k-lite codec pack does not.
If I find an easier way to install the required codecs with all registry keys,
I'll post it.
However, there is a way to use Registax now. Thanks.

Other field we have wrong are ntmFlags - we are missing NTM_PS_OPENTYPE and
NTM_TYPE1. If I set them the font is again on the fonts list even with type set
to 2. However the crash is still there.

The maintainer of this app reported this to be fixed, and i just checked, and
indeed, the textures display fine without native urlmon.dll. I guess that's due
to one of Misha Koshelev' s patches. You still have to use native dcom98 to get
the tables running, but that;s filed in another bug

The black and white bug seems to gone as of current git, although ground
textures still only show up with pbuffers. There's still something wrong with
some textures, some trees definately seem wrong and barbed wire looks as if the
alpha channel isn't getting considered (could be just the low settings though).

A workaround is to place the font in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
instead of C:\Windows\Fonts. That way Photoshop bypasses Wine and accesses the
font directly. It also shows that the problem is in Wine, not in Photoshop/the
font.

I am sure, that my distribution really have NPTL or TLS compiled inside.
Slackware guarentees NPTL and TLS from 10.0. Now I have 11.0 and the problem is
a same.
May be, that wine's autodetection NPTL or TLS fails. I really don't know what
is wrong now, but this seems to be for another bug report.
May be, that old dynamical library is load.
bash-3.1# ldd `which wine`
libwine.so.1 => /usr/local/bin/../lib/libwine.so.1 (0x40018000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x40146000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x4019a000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x402c8000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x40000000)
I really don't know what goes wrong.

Summary: Printing: does not work when emulating Windows 98
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.43.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gdi-(printing)
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: christoph.drexler(a)gmx.at
I used the script ies4linux (ies4linux-2.0.5) to install Internet Explorer 6.0.
The script sets the Windows version to Windows 98.
But: Printing did not work, not only in the Internet Explorer, but using
notepad, either.
Setting the Windows version to "Windows 2000" made my printer work again (using
notepad), but stopped the Internet Explorer working.
This is not an ie4linux issue, as I had the same problems when trying to set
the Windows version to "Windows 98" in my clean "/.wine" directory.
At last I was able to solve the problem by adding some Registry Entries:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows
4.0\Drivers\Version-0\Einzelplatzdrucker]
"Configuration File"="wineps16"
"Datatype"="RAW"
"Driver"="wineps16"
where "Einzelplatzdrucker" is the name of my printer.
I assume that printing would work well with Windows 98 settings, if those
Registry entries would be produced automatically when executing
"wineprefixcreate" (as it is obviously done for the correspondant Registry
Entries in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows
NT x86\Drivers\Version-3]
So this might be quite easy to fix, but a great help for anybody having to
print pages in the Internet Explorer (as I have to do sometimes).
Christoph

xsetroot blank cursor file
Hi,
I found a workaround for this bug.
The idea is to hide the X cursor, for this you need the attached file, save it
to your game directory, for example.
Then start your game like this:
# change to game directory
cd ${HOSP_DIR}
# hide the X cursor
xsetroot -cursor emptycursor emptycursor
# start the game
wine Hospital.exe
# restore the original cursor in X
xsetroot -cursor_name left_ptr
As you can see i tried it with Theme Hospital, probably this will work with
other games too.
Have a nice day, Bud

Created an attachment (id=7863)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=7863)
SDK example programs
If someone is interested I attach example programs from the SDK. The tablet
seems to behave differently if it is configured as an X input device (i.e. it
works like a mouse) with "SendCoreEvents" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf or not. In the
second case the syspress nearly works - with a frequent mouse moves the tablet
presses are drawn. But the first case is more interesting as this is how newer
distributions are automatically configured and what Windows apps expects - e.g.
both syspress and Photoshop check for new packets in WM_MOUSE* event handlers.
So far I've found two problems. The first is that the touchpad of my laptop is
wrongly detected as a tablet device. As Wine assumes there is one device thus
there is also the same resolution and the resolution of the touchpad (1280x800)
is used to calculate tablet events (resolution 10200x7400) what gives pixels
out of the screen. The second is that syspress assumes that if the pen is on
the tablet (i.e. pressure > 0) then also there is a button pressed. Probably
there is how native works. Wine delivers packets with pressure>0 and buttons=0.
Tomorrow I will try to look into it deeper.

The tmPitchAndFamily/lfPitchAndFamily also differs between Wine and Windows
(0x27 instead of 0x2b). I tried to hack WineEngEnumFonts to change the type
and PitchAndFamily but that caused the font to disappear from the fonts list.
So something more is missing.

GetCharABCWidthsI fails because it seems the font is not TrueType and both in
MSDN and in our implementation the font is required to be TT. The function
GetCharWidth32 works for non-TT font but it gets Unicode chars as an input,
while in ScriptPlace we are passed glyph indices. I haven't found out yet how
to convert them. Also we should check if native Uniscript works with non-TT
fonts - maybe the probblem is in font substitutions.

The first problem is that GetCharABCWidthsI fails in usp10.dll/ScriptPlace. Due
to this Qt passes all zeros for in lpDx. The second is that it uses ETO_PDY.
It's partially implemented - vertical offsets are ignored, they are not wrongly
interpreted as horizontal offsets. This may be a problem later for multi-line
text unless multi-line text is printed using multiple calls to ExtTextOutW and
the vertical offset is used only for some scripts. I'll try to look closer into
it.

Confirmed 100% the performance problem is from gdi/winex11. This is fixed in
the DIB engine. It's much faster!! :D So I'm going to mark this a dupe of the
dib engine bug, because it is solved once the dib engine is merged with wine.
Note: There are regressions that need to be worked out with this app, so this
is a good testing app.

The makefiles are written to be portable, and they should work fine with BSD
make too. Though in this case it sounds like a make bug, if it uses implicit
rules for install instead of the rule we specified explicitly.

Possible reason for the final "invalid floating point" error. With the Tahoma
font installed, the application starts normally, appearing to load various
component windows of the gui in turn. The remaining error message appears with
the focus on the "Audio/Video" tab, suggesting that it is something on this
rather small tab that is causing the error. I note that this is the only
location in the application (that I can find) that uses radio buttons, and that
the dot in these buttons is distorted. I can't find any other bugs relating to
radio buttons, but could this be the cause of the problem?
P.S. It turns out that the originally reported bug was in fact three bugs:
1) The reason for the initial freeze reported part way through startup was
caused when gecko was not installed. The error/install message was hidden
behind a splash screen that always displays on top.
2) The vast (and crippling) majority of the error messages were caused by an
absence of the Tahoma font. If this is added to the font directory and the
registry, the program will load...
3) ... leaving only one remaining error message (described above).
Of these, the first was not a bug. The second is an already reported bug*. The
third is still open.
*Regarding the Tahoma problem: I'd like to reference the bug that this
duplicates so that I can properly attach DVD Profiler as an affected program.
However, although I can find reference to Tahoma in several bugs, I'm not sure
which one is actual Tahoma bug. Can anyone shed any light?

Okay, one followup: after removing the crashing glGetString() calls in
IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps() and subsequently all glGetIntegerv(), glGetFloatv()
and checkGLcall() calls DirectDraw finally finished to initialise and the
programm continued.
Then the next problem was that IDirectDraw_EnumDisplayModes did not return any
modes at all and my app didn't like that too much.
After working around this problem the app finally seems to work as expected, in
windowed mode at least, fullscreen is of course disabled without any modes.
Will test a bit more once I'm on the local net and don't have to do SSH/VNC
through a 192kbit line...
So almost there, it seems!

With a hacked ddraw, the fonts are fine. It's just that the blitting is no

Some applications uses the following sequence to create windows (winamp play
list)
1) CreateWindow(WS_OVERLAPPED)
CreateWindow adds WS_CAPTION - this is correct.
Then MWM_DECOR_TITLE hint is added - this is correct too.
2) SetWindowLong(WS_CLIPSIBLINGS)
Here we remove WS_CAPTION style. Hints should be updated too, but they are not.
It seems there is another bug in server.
Is it correct that right now mwm hints are added only during creation time and
never gets modified?

After the commit of your fix in comment #17 on 20 Aug (so it was included in
wine 0.9.44), I have tried again the installation of the game ETQW-beta2 from
the beginning, deleting ~/.wine and compiling again from git version.
Now when the installation of ETQW-beta2 reaches the execution of
vcredist_x86.exe it already pop-ups the error window about "cannot execute
C:\\windows\temp\vcredist_x86.exe", because the file was extracted into the
subfolder C:\\windows\temp\WZSE0.TMP\" instead of "C:\\windows\temp\".
But now the difference is that, after executing manually vcredist_x86.exe, the
installed game plays correctly WITHOUT copying the Manifest file recommended in
the previous workaround. So it seems that the real problem can be in the
installer that extracts the file in the wrong folder (or it tries to execute in
the wrong one). Or maybe the installer expects to find vcredist_x86.exe in the
current directory that must be in the path and wine has not included it, or
something similar.
By the way, after executing vcredist_x86.exe the folder
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/winsxs is populated with a lot (75) folders with names
"x86_Microsoft.VC80.ATL_*".

The last release (0.9.44) seems to fix the background and the buttons...
however, there are no more fonts visible.
Concerning the fonts, I do not know if it just needs to be installed
additionally or this is a wine bug.

I run Mandriva 2007.0 on an AMD 64.
I downloaded wine 0.9.44 source, ran "./configure --version" and installed all
possible libraries (wine still fails to recognize libcui and libcapi20). I
commented out line 151 of "tools/wineinstall" and added the line "if false" in
its place to insure that "./tools/wineinstall" would re-run "configure". I
then ran "./tools/wineinstall". The build failed with the following messages:
make[1]: Leaving directory `/working/wine-0.9.44/include'
make[1]: Entering directory `/working/wine-0.9.44/fonts'
../tools/sfnt2fnt courier.ttf 13 1255 96 128 8

make[1]: Leaving directory `/working/wine-0.9.44/fonts'

I ran "make depend" manually without any problems and then ran "make" again
with the same result.
E-mail me if there are any logs that I should attach.

Stepmania startup log
I have a ps2ToUsb converter that I use to connect a dance pad to my computer
for Stepmania. It was working fine in my previous version of Wine (.9.43 or
.42 I believe). I just upgraded and now Stepmania will not recognize any
gamepad input. I have checked that the pad is working using other programs.
Startup log is attached.

This doesn't affect Photoshop anymore as after the window managing changed the
palettes are now managed. However for unmanaged child windows the problem is
still present.

This is a duplicate of 1175, ie the basic problem being that TOOLBAR_SetRows is
not implemented. I am about to submit a patch to implement basic functionality
which may be sufficient for this - Please give it a go.
For now, closing as duplicate of 1175, but *please* reopen if the problem
persists, with a +toolbar log.

Ok, looks like it loads now, but some function loading the opengl function
addresses doesn't check the result properly and tries to call a function that
doesn't exist. Your backtrace does not contain debug symols, can you post a
backtrace with a wine that doesn't have debug symbols removed? This will make
it easier to spot where it is failing.
