Under ALSA, WoW 2.2 PTR will appear to hang, but after about 5 minutes waiting
it'll error out with a #132 Fatal Exception (memory can't be read). Note, some
of this output is because I have multiple sound cards.

Still happening with wine-0.9.44.
Very easy to reproduce; just run the Qt Windows Open Source installer,
it runs qtdemo.exe for you after installation.
The error
fixme:font:ExtTextOutW flags ETO_NUMERICSLOCAL | ETO_NUMERICSLATIN | ETO_PDY
unimplemented
bothers Photoshop Elements 5 quite a bit; it seems that app uses
Qt 4. Thus this error just got a bit more important.

I can't try it without the patch since it does not revert because so many
changes has been made to quartz... so at best it reverts up to Wine 20050930
but after that I do not know how to get it reverted since patch fails and I am
too stupid to revert it myself other than just reverting all quartz patches
after Wine 20050930 and the reverting the patch I want.

In 0.9.44 this problem seems still to be gone, but instead, some other bizarre
behaviour occures, I'll try to list it here as it might be related to this bug:
1. xfce4-based alt-tab shows now 4 unknown applications, starcraft exe and
staredit.exe (?) running while i'm on battle.net
2. hitting the browse button when trying to pick a map to create a game hangs
starcraft
3. when starcraft starts, the xfce4 panel elements are visible on top of it -
they disappear when i connect to battle.net (europe, not fsgs).

Hi all,
just got the latest wine update to 0.9.44 which has the new:-
regedit: Fix importing of .reg hex.
I tried deleting the reg values and restart steam but no luck still can't play
prey. and is still coming up preloaded.
I'll try going through a fresh install of steam when I get the chance.
the fix did sort the import problem that was there but it have not helped.
looks like we maybe back to square one (if it works for anyone else scream
violently in my direction :D)

WINE Output in Terminal when running Sword of the New World
This is a bug when running the MMORPG - Sword of the New World: Granado Espada,
Version 2.2.5
After installing IEs4Linux and starting the game with the following command (so
as to avoid a problem with Flash in the game launcher):
WINEPREFIX="/home/YOUR_USERNAME/.ies4linux/ie6" wine ge.exe
And then starting the game, the game starts X-Trap anti-cheat software (whether
that crashed or not, I don't know) and then the game crashes.
Here are my system specs:

Athlon 64 3300+ Socket 754

HURRAH!!! Really BIG improvement over 0.9.42 and before. As far as I can see,
the speed issue is resolved, though there remains the same errors that existed
before. I don't know if they are significant or not ... the applications do
run except for printer issues that I will address in another bug report.

I'm trying to get Thief: Deadly Shadows working under WINE 0.9.44
I patched Thief3 to 1.1. When I try to run it in WINE, the game crashes. I was
able to see the opening movies, and then the initial game splash screen for
about a second, and then the game crashes. I'm not sure that the error is the
same as the one listed here, but it has the same "Page fault on read access to
0x0000040c" error.
I'm attaching my output...hopefully this bug isn't forgotten, and someone will
see this. The comments below make me think the problem may have been solved,
but I can't figure anything out.

Exception fault with new PT patch in place
To apply the patch, I had to switch wine version to XP for it to run, otherwise
I got a runtime error. However, with the patch in place, the program won't run
with the following exception. Yet another setback :(

I opened the file "searching.avi" in dlls/shell32/, and i saw it in the preview

There were differences between running the test directly from the command-line
and via winetest (had to do with the working directory). The CreateProcess
items are fixed by passing the correct working directory from winetest:

I just tried the GIT code again (most recent commit Fri Aug 24 16:34:33,
Release 0.9.44). It did not bomb out, but it did hang on the boundary change in
an exterior scene (had to kill the process).
Release 0.9.38 was the last release to work correctly with pbuffer.

At 16bpp without conversion 565->555 and then 555->565
I have written a simple patch which corrects the problem but I suppose that it
also breaks something else. I have a patch which corrects occurrences of bad
masks but it seems that without the conversion 565 -> 555 and then 555 -> 565
something is terrible wrong. My guess is that maybe we have a problem with a
sign (unsigned char <-> char) but this is only a wild guess. Mikolaj could you
please send your patch which replace "CopyImage" I think that at the moment it
would be a better solution ...

I have swap 4Gb but S.T.A.L.K.E.R. not runs with message ">=2Gb swap file

I have edited S.T.A.L.K.E.R. binary XR_3DA.exe and make following changes:
Has found a binary code 476C6F62616C4D656D6F72795374617475734578 as string it
would be "GlobalMemoryStatusEx" and replaced it with

"GlobalMemoryStatus".
After that game runs.
I think bug in "GlobalMemoryStatusEx".

Photoshop have a problem with drawing the sample in the font face and
regular/italic/bold comboboxes. Probably it tries to paint it using it's own
engine and then AlphaBlend it on the combo. The GdiAlphaBlend should failed if
the xSrc or ySrc is negative and Photoshop seems to be prepared for it as when
we return FALSE is such a case the sample it never the less drawn. If we do
nothing for an invalid xSrc but return TRUE, some samples will be missing.
A breakpoint in AlphaBlend in Photoshop on Windows shows that it is also called
with negative parameters and Windows returns 0. So it looks like not a bug
elsewhere but we need to validate the parameters.

Luke,
The PBOOL DebuggerPresent is what tells the caller of the
CheckRemoteDebuggerPresent function whether a remote debugger is present.
See here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms679280.aspx
That is why your patch didn't work. I too immediately thought that that stub
was to blame, but it doesn't look like it. Something else must be going on
here.
I am trying to run the Bioshock demo too, btw.

patch
CS2 calls AlphaBlend calls with a negative source x coordinate. That causes
some buffer overruns in X11DRV_AlphaBlend. Does the attached patch help?
Just as a note: I'm not sure if this patch is correct. According to MSDN a call
with a negative source x should have failed what would suggest that the source
of the problem is somewhere else.

Hack to force mouse warping
This hack forces Wine to use mouse warping even if the cooperation level does
not include DISCL_EXCLUSIVE.
It's certainly NOT a permanent solution and is meant for testing only.
This patch enables mouse in the Raven Shield menu while the real implementation
is on the way.
The mission briefing menu however has a strange drawing bug so I had to guess
where to click START.
I don't know how this affects other applications.

Summary: Printer dialog doesn't work when using as Windows 98
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.42.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gdi-(printing)
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: c_pradelli(a)yahoo.com
Some days ago I post a bug (id 9208) but I was mistaken.
The problem that I found is when using as Windows 98.
It can be tested with a new and clean .wine directory, use winecfg to set as
windows 98 by default.
Using "wine notepad" when I select print... in the menu, I get the error:
err:winspool:WINSPOOL_GetDriverInfoFromReg Can't find driver L"XEROX" in
registry
err:winspool:WINSPOOL_GetDriverInfoFromReg Can't find driver L"XEROX" in
registry
err:commdlg:PRINTDLG_ChangePrinterW GetPrinterDriverA failed for L"XEROX",
fix your config!
I tested with versions from 0.9.35 to 0.9.43 and exists in all of them (every
time with a new .wine directory).
This doesn't happen if you leave as default (windows 2000 or windows XP)

Wine v0.9.44 error log - SE5 v1.44
This error log is from running SE5 v1.44 under Wine v0.9.44 using a 16-bit
color depth setting on the X server. I was able to start the tutorial mode but
as soon as it finished "player creation" the game froze; presumably something
is still wrong with the Direct3D implementation because that is the point in
the game at which it switches over to the 3D view.

I also checked HKCU/software/valve/steam/users/<uid>/licenses and it begins
with "01 00 00 00 ..."
After looking at the code for regedit and trying to import new registry keys
with similar values it seems that there is a very serious bug in how regedit
parses hex valued keys. From my initial tests it seems that any value that
starts with 0 causes a "regedit: ERROR converting CSV hex stream. Invalid
sequence at ..." error when importing a key with that value. So any hex value
of the form "0x" (where x is a digit from 0-e) in the comma separated list
causes an error.
It seems like this might affect Steam by Wine not parsing the "licenses" value
correctly and Steam thinking that you don't actually own the games you
purchased. So when you delete the key from the registry, Steam can't check the
value in the registry and must rely on it's own server-side data to determine
what games you own. It would also explain why even when my purchased games show
up as purchased I still can't start some of them and get a "You do not have a
valid subscription" error. The "licenses" key is stored in the registry again
and when Steam needs to check the value when starting the game Wine parses it
incorrectly.
Could anyone who has working purchased games please check the value of
HKCU/software/valve/steam/users/<uid>/licenses, since if it has any "0x" digit
pairs then my speculation would be wrong.

Xinha has no support for Opera. There isn't much we can do until Xinha adds
this support or we replace Xinha with something similar that has Opera support.
I upgrade Xinha regularly to keep up with the latest release so this issue
should go away in the future when the next Xinha release comes out and we
upgrade to it.

We probably aren't going to change this functionality. For the most part we
really don't want users to put anything but very short comments into the
additional comments field so having html in there seems like it might be too
much. In any case, we can quite easily enable html in that text box if a good
argument is made for it.

Today I was unable to reproduce the pipes problem - I had only the "Sorry, ..."
dialog not the insufficient privileges one.
The attached patch implements in a better way ending the service process when
the service stops. With it Photoshop doesn't hang after the "Sorry, ..."
message but restarts the service and retries. This also fails with a "Sorry,
..." message and Photoshop terminates.
It seems that without this patch it's better as pressing Ctrl-C during the hang
kills the message and Photoshop seems to work.

Well this seems to be a strange behavior with the selfextractor installer, by
some reason it takes almost 1.5GB of memory/swap (I think that caches the
entire installer file into memory), after that decompress the archives very
very slowly.
The resulting files are the same as using "unzip bfme2demo_english_final.exe",
but the unzip method is much faster, friendly and takes almost no memory to
decompress.
Also I tested an unziped demo and its playable adding the required dll
d3dx9_27, tested on wine.0.9.38 with ATI fglrx.

I'm closing this bug now. As explained Wine relies on GLX 1.2 +
GLX_SGIX_fbconfig. We won't be moving back to pure 1.2 GLX functions. The code
relies on fbconfigs for everything as they have lots of advantages over pure
1.2 code. Maintaining two backends is not really an option. Further nearly all
systems have GLX_SGIX_fbconfig. I haven't seen one in years without (at least
all opensource DRI drivers + Mesa have it; the same for ATI and Nvidia)

Hi,
i solved the problem with C&C 3 over hamachi. at least for some cases.
I'm sitting on a windows but my friend is using wine. i did some python
programing that let you forward broadcasts from your computer to a specific
host (not broadcast) with a copy of the socket that sent it. IF ou use my
program at the windows machine and forward the 8086 port to the linux(wine)
computer it works... some time outs but much better then with my windows
friends :P so i guess the time outs could be other things.
good job all.
and btw you still need to edit the host file :(.
i will work on a solution for the Linux host so that it doesn't need to relay
on windows users.
the problem with that is that the messages must be sent from the right ports
and probably hosts. I'm not shore that the broad cast gets through hamachi
either. I'll check that out.

Propsed patch to fix all three functions.
Proposed patch to fix all three functions.
Note I haven't implemented the parameter checking that msdn specifies. I did
give it a go, but my application then crashed since it tried to call _fcvt with
msdn defines as illegal arguments (count = 0)! So I decided to not bother with
the checking!
The specs of these functions give the most bizarre number to string conversion
I have ever seen in my life ... but I guess thats Microsoft for you.

I looked at a .cat file more closely. It's a PKCS signedData message. So
something like:
HCRYPTMSG msg = CryptMsgOpenToDecode(PKCS_7_ASN_ENCODING, 0, 0, 0, NULL, NULL);
CryptMsgUpdate(msg, buf, size, TRUE);
where buf and size are a pointer to the contents of the .cat file, and size is
its length, should decode the message for you. It may contain bits inside it
that wine can't decode yet - don't know without looking more closely.

patch for winetricks
Both patches went into the Wine tree as now iexplore.exe is created properly.
For Photoshop Elements 1.0 to install we still need the App Paths registry key.
I don't know if it's safe to add it into the default installation - I will try
to learn something more about it. In the meantime this is a patch to update
winetricks to handle the new patch. It's backward-compatible with old
wineprefixes and even will make Photoshop Elements install there - it uses
shdocvw.dll as a template which has a similar VERSIONINFO as iexplore.exe
should have.

anything, just created the fake ie6 key, installer is
http://us.dl1.yimg.com/download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr8/us/msgr8us.exe
As a sidenote, once it's installed, and i start messenger, it says it cannot
connect. However it then offers an option to change connection from "No proxy"
to "firewall wih proxy". When i do that it connects just fine. Might be that
this bug (the 404 not found message) is also related to that.???

(Just for the info)
Hi Juan, i tested your patches
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2007-August/043049.html and the
two before that one, with yahoo messenger
It looks like it fixes bug 6008, however ( i tried installing 6 times)
sometimes the installer installer hangs at random stages, and then i have to
restart it again. I don't know however if that 's due to these patches. If the
installer manages to run to end, it looks that all files are installed
correctly, and i can start the main application (Yahoo messeneger). So apart
from the "random hang" it looks like major improvement.

ImageReady sets the 10x10 clipping region for the duration of some DC
initializations then is restores the previous clipping region. However it
doesn't restore it if there was no clipping region. On Windows it seems there
is always a clipping region during the call to WM_CTLSTATICCOLOR. With this
patch the whole text is painted (there is a strip at the bottom in a different
color but that's probably a different problem). I will have to check if it is
correct.

The crash can be reproduced with: "RtlDetermineDosPathNameType(NULL)",
but this crash is also in Windows.
The callchain in this bug was SearchPathW and SearchPathA.
Mike fixed the handling for NULL as name for SearchPathA in April 2006:
http://cvs.winehq.org/cvsweb/wine/dlls/kernel/Attic/path.c.diff?r1=1.29&r2=…
IMHO, the bug is fixed
The actual code is still not correct (but not needed for the bug):
- SearchPathW still does not check for NULL
- LastError is not set
- There are no Test for SearchPath

Using 0.9.43 I can confirm that this is definitely a dual CPU problem - not

Anyway C&C Generals installs and runs flawlessly on a bog standard P4 system
but when I run it on Core2 Duo it hangs on the splash screen with one CPU at

The problem is in dlls/msvcrt/math.c, function _fcvt.
Referring to page
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ex8sf9x0(VS.80).aspx
we see the following description of the return string:
"Only digits are stored in the string. The position of the decimal point and
the sign of value can be obtained from dec and sign after the call. The dec
parameter points to an integer value; this integer value gives the position of
the decimal point with respect to the beginning of the string. A zero or
negative integer value indicates that the decimal point lies to the left of the
first digit. The parameter sign points to an integer indicating the sign of
value. The integer is set to 0 if value is positive and is set to a nonzero
number if value is negative."
Currently the function returns the complete string with minus sign and decimal
point.
Furthermore, it is currently using %e to convert instead of %f.
I am happy to have a crack at fixing this - and will review _ecvt and _gcvt
while I am at it.

I can confirm what Scott Ritchie said.
When you click on the search textbox you can type your searchwords as well.
When you do it, the focus move to the search result listbox and you can't move
it back to the searchbox. So you can't do another search.
A little workaround is to do a search, then switch to the transfer panel, and
finally return to the search panel. In the last step the focus will
automatically be in the search textbox. This works but is very very bugging.
Please solve this bug if you can. Good work.

With today's git, I'm having trouble. I did roughly
1. rm -rf ~/.wine
2. wine /media/cdrom/setup.exe
3. when the installer prompts for the 2nd disc, go
to another window and run "wine eject", then insert disc,
wait for it to mount, and click 'retry'.
At very end, you'll need to hit ^C (see below)
(Then make sure you have 2GB of space, and do "cp -a .wine .wine-dns9"
so you never have to reinstall)
4. rm .wine/dosdevices/z:
5. download word 97 viewer from
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,6314-order,1-page,1-c,wordprocess…
rename it, copy it to .wine/drive_c, and install it.
6. ln -s / .wine/dosdevices/z:
7. wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks fakeie6 gdiplus dcom98
8. finally, do
wine natspeak.exe
Install lacked all progress bars, which was bad, because it took soooo long.
There were a few missing DLL errors during install:
err:module:import_dll Library REGAPI.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program
Files\\Nuance\\NaturallySpeaking9\\Program\\wfapi.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library WINSTA.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program
Files\\Nuance\\NaturallySpeaking9\\Program\\wfapi.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library MFC42.DLL (which is needed by L"C:\\Program
Files\\Nuance\\NaturallySpeaking9\\Program\\ereg.exe") not found
Annoyingly, install didn't seem to finish. Right after the MFC42 problem,
the drive light stopped flashing, so I pressed ^C after a few minutes.
Happily, this caused the installer to decide it was complete, and
it put up its happy finish dialog. The process didn't terminate,
so I then did wineserver -k.
After all that, trying to start up the app didn't get too far;
it put up the splash screen, thought for a minute, said
err:module:import_dll Library REGAPI.dll (which is needed by
L"Z:\\home\\dank\\.wine\\drive_c\\Program
Files\\Nuance\\NaturallySpeaking9\\Program\\wfapi.dll") not found

This is caused by ImageReady calling ExtSelectClipRgn in the handler of
WM_CTLCOLORSTATIC. I will check tomorrow if it's the static control that should
reset the clipping region or we are missing something in GDI that is causing
the clipping to stay.

I have the same problem running WoW in fullscreen opengl mode on a virtual
desktop. Wine runs in managed mode so the window manager (fluxbox) still
receives events that allow me to switch between virtual desktops.
With version <=0.9.41 I can instantly switch to another virtual desktop.
Sound keeps playing even if I focus other windows on the 2nd virtual desktop.
With version >=0.9.42 switching to another virtual desktop is broken.
The WoW screen seems to stick to all virtual desktops and covers other apps
running on the virtual desktop. You can see them when switching before the WoW
screen is drawn over them. As reported above the sound stops as soon as you
switch for the first time and never comes back.
In both cases "Enable Sounds in Background" is disabled.

Using the 2004 version I found on the site, the program installed and ran fine
as far as I could tell. But since I don't speak Swiss, can't be too sure. I'm
closing fixed, please reopen if this application still gives you trouble.

Seems to be gone with the new window managing code - the palette is now
managed, the tooltip unmanaged and the tooltip is on top of the palette

One more small change - if I open a "dynamic" palette in Photoshop 7 like e.g.
Brushes and minimize and restore the main window the area of the palette
doesn't get repainted. Under Windows the palette disappears. With the previous
code the palette would stay all the time always on top.

The losing of captions after a minimize/restore is something that happend once
- now I can't reproduce it. Also usually the splash screen in PS7/PS CS becomes
managed only after I click on it.
However in ImageReady 7 if I resize a palette window it gets a second caption -
apart from the one drawn by Photoshop there is a standard WM caption. Also the
hotspots to resize a palette window seems now to be much smaller - looks most
of the frame is now WM provided and there is a very think frame that can be
grabed to resize the window.
