Heh, leave it to me to leave out some of the most important info. Yes, in wine
0.9.43, the characters show up fine. I'll try to test sound a bit later today.
Assuming that's not an issue, I'd say this bug is fixed.
default_357-line(a)yahoo.de, have you tried with a clean .wine directory? Try
checking your drivers/X.org configuration.

Created an attachment (id=7571)

stack overflow kernel32?
Hi I need some help, to track down the stack overflow.
What I did up to now is
WINEDEBUG=+seh,+relay,+tid,+ddraw,+dinput,+dsound,+x11settings wine onidemo.exe
&> wine-oni.log
(which created a 600+mb file)
The stackoverflow happened in the 0010 thread, so I grep it
grep 0010: wine-oni.log &> wine-oni-0010.log
(80mb file)
The Attachment show the important part.
I am not sure, is it really
0010:Ret KERNEL32.WriteFile() retval=00000001 ret=0051b48c
which causes
0010:trace:seh:raise_exception code=c0000005 flags=0 addr=0x519f85
and the beginning of the stack overflow?
If yes, I dont see how a return of a bool can cause that.
Or did I get it wrong and I must look into all threads? not just the one who
causes it?
I am really stuck now but I will be happy for any help :)

Sorry for spamming, but I was a little too quick in saying it is fixed...
I tried a lot of settings yesterday and it ran incredibly fast. However now it
is back to the old speed (with bug reproducible again, but normal gameplay
works), tried all settings again and couldn't get it fast again. It's not
really slow, just slightly slower than native. I don't know why this happened
or why it was fast yesterday, but hardware accelleration still works.
Here is a new log with more information that might be useful.

Created an attachment (id=7562)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=7562)
this is aprox. 20 minutes of gaming i another server
so, the new stack is a successful playing time on Ragnamania-lumina. i've take
a look in the stack file, and there is a mention to the wrong ip:
trace:winsock:WS_gethostbyname "216.127.88.128" ret 0x4060be8
trace:winsock:WS_socket af=2 type=1 protocol=0
trace:winsock:WSASocketA af=2 type=1 protocol=0 protocol_info=(nil) group=0
flags=0x1
trace:winsock:WSASocketW af=2 type=1 protocol=0 protocol_info=(nil) group=0
flags=0x1
trace:winsock:WSASocketW created 00fc
trace:winsock:WS_ioctlsocket socket 00fc, cmd 8004667e, ptr 0x33fa7c
trace:winsock:WS_connect socket 00fc, ptr 0x6e6db0 { family 2, address

trace:winsock:WS_select read 0x33ee20, write (nil), excp (nil) timeout 0x33ef24
The scariest thing is 216.127.88.128 is the correct ip, and 50.56.0.0 is the
incorrect. Maybe wine is scrambling the correct ip, i have no idea.
It forces me to look others stacks, and we have similar behaviour in previous
stacks... in the previous the line "trace:winsock:WS_gethostbyname
"216.127.88.128" ret 0x4060be8" is "trace:winsock:WS_gethostbyname
"pk.xilero.net" ret 0x36b1de0".
It's 4MB, but we have logged half hour...
I've used the following line to get play on lumina:
iptables -t nat -A OUTPUT -d 50.56.0.0 -j DNAT --to 216.127.88.128
Hey, good luck, and if you fix it, we will build an statue in your honror, :P

I've been testing around with hardware accelleration since the latest patches,
and they fixed issues with quite a few apps for me. The card dealing and other
animations in spider are now as fast as in windows, or without sound.
I was not able to reproduce the bug with 0.9.43, I think it was caused by
playing a sound too often, too fast repeated (buffer overflow?).
Since that has sped up so much, it won't come to a crash anymore.
I consider this as fixed.
(I still found a minor difference to native: It should have a sound when you
start to drag a card and one when you drop it again. In wine both sounds play
after you drop a card... Is this a bug? This is too ridiculous... Just like the
picture in spider's Info dialog only being painted if you trigger a redraw.. I
won't file bug reports for these)

Replaces duplicated scrolling code with re-usable functions.
Removes excessive boundary checking on scroll code, since that's done

Summary: Quicken 2002: Cannot install due to unhandled page fault
Product: WineHQ Apps Database
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: website-bugs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jrstrong(a)yahoo.com
Created an attachment (id=7556)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=7556)
Unhandled page fault stack trace
OS: Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn
Wine: 0.9.43 (started with 0.9.42)
I have tried to install Quicken 2002 many times, but have had no luck. I
receive the following exception every time I try to launch the installer:
Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address (nil) (thread
000c)
See the attached text file for full trace information. This exception occurs
immediately after launching 'wine setup', 'wine
c:\\quickeninst\\disk1\\setup.exe', and from the CD.
I installed Wine from the package manager. I have completely removed Wine as
well as the .wine directory. Attempts to reinstall give me the same unhandled
page fault. This machine is a brand new Ubuntu installation. I have tried
installing from the CD as well as a local directory with all the disk images
separated into folders. I have spent many hours over the past several days
searching through pages of how-tos and bug reports, but have not found anything
similar. Based on some of these pages, I got the impression that IE needed to
be installed. After not finding IE information through winehq, I installed
ies4linux. Quicken still returned the unhandled page fault. I have tried
winecfg to change the windows version to xp and 98.
Since I am not an expert Wine user, it is possible that Wine is not configured
correctly. However, from all the how-tos and forums, I can't find anything
that could be a problem. I have left the severity as major since it could be
my configuration.

Yes, there has been a big improvement. I think we can half-close the bug :-)
I showed Photoshop CS startup to a guy from Adobe,
and he didn't seem to think it was all that bad.
Heck, maybe that's good enough, then...

Using my NVIDIA box (no speakers, can't try audio) with clean .wine & wine
0.9.43, the video looks great (Nvidia FX 5200, binary drivers, kubuntu gusty).
The sprites display fine. I'll try it on my work computer (Nvidia 7200, w/
speakers :-P) and see if the results are the same.
Anyone else (ATI/Nvidia) care to verify these results?

I have a fairly recent nvidia card using the 100.14.09 proprietary drivers, and
yeah, it's significantly choppier than it should be (sound is smooth though,
but that's probably because my box is totally overpowered for this game). Lots
of fixme:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_WaitForVerticalBlank (0x168840)->(1,(nil)): Stub
as described.

In Guild Wars this happens too - when I hold the right button and click the
left button twice - fast enough, then it crashes. (Maybe it has to be exactly
quick enough to be recognized as double-click) When the gap between the two
left-mouse-button-clicks ist big enough nothing happens.

Interesting update: After reading the comment above by Saulius, I copied
msvfw32.dll and quartz.dll into the DVD Shrink directory and selected "native"
for each of them under winecfg.
DVD Shrink now will run without incident...but If I run more than one instance
(I usually run 4) they eventually start bogging down and the whole system will
come to a crawl.
I have also attempted running with just msvfw32.dll or quartz.dll as native,
but either way this results in the original symptom (crashes on mouse movement
after a min or so)

I'm seeing this same behavior when trying to start ArmedAssault. The page just
shows "Please wait while the page is loading...".
I've tried using ies4linux but that seems to have trouble connecting over an
ssl connection unless win98 mode is used. Using win98 mode is not an option as
the game requires win2k or higher.

oh, sorry, :D
the ip's showed in iptraf was 116.0.0.0; but the right ip (as show in
sclientinfo.xml) is pk.xilero.net; i've pinged it, and got 75.126.144.116;
when i adjust its using the iptables rule, i get connected.
As i said, the server disconnected me several times in the second trace because
i already made previous success connections that day. I will do (if useful)
another stack over a successful play on the server.
bye!

I found out that the last error only appears when hardware accel is set to
Emulation in winecfg. I set it to full and now sound works and the game does
not crash or fail anymore (with the native dm.. dlls).
DirectMusic still does not work out-of-the-box.
I tested that in 0.9.43, by the way.

That sounds like a bug I've seen in Mesa & War3 (and also reportibly WoW).
fglrx may have had the same problem. We had a bug report in Mesa for a long
time and I know DRI has been fixed in the last 6 months. I suspect this was a
driver problem.

The sprites are now fully visible in Wine 0.9.43, but sound and motion are
still choppy (oddly a little bit faster in Beryl+Xgl than in regular Xorg).
I suspect this could be related to my ATI X1600Pro card with propietary
drivers, so can anybody confirm this behavior using another graphics hardware
(i.e., NVIDIA)?
The number of fixmes is now significantly reduced as you can see in the new
attachment.

Various people have suggested that this is a WoW bug. E.g. when you move the
mouse under a certain angle that textures disappear so now and then. If that's
not the issue you were most likely suffering from a driver bug. Thousands of
people are running WoW on Wine and we haven't heard of issues like this for
some time, so I'm going to close this bug.

The patch in bug #9249 fixes a recent regression that was introduced in wine
0.9.43. The reporter have a problem in wine 0.9.42. The bug looks like
something configuration-dependant like a printer with a NULL driver name or
something like that. Maybe the program always worked for you and we would need
some feedback from the reported to know why it doesn't work for him.

Sound and video does not get choppy for me using Wine 0.9.42 on Fedora 7.
Though, I can confirm 2): I also can not see characters. The guess in a comment
is that it is caused by missing Specular Lighting support by ddraw.

and FreeBSD specific. See http://wiki.freebsd.org/Wine for more information on
FreeBSD specific problems.

Summary: Wine 0.9.41 and later can't match "Arial" default font
face
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.43.
Platform: PC-x86-64
URL: http://rayfract.com/trial/RAYTRIAL.EXE
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: info(a)rayfract.com
CC: info(a)rayfract.com
Wine 0.9.41 and later on SUSE 10.0 and openSUSE 10.2 resolve default "Arial"
font face to Courier-like Serif font. If there are TrueType .ttf fonts
installed in drive_c/windows/fonts, Wine resolves "Arial" to these graphical
symbol TrueType fonts instead, and winecfg and Rayfract(R) trial window text
becomes unreadable.
See e.g. Surfer 8 demo, http://www.golden.com . This installs TrueType fonts.
After configuring fonts for menus, title bars, message boxes and hints as "MS
Sans Serif" with winecfg 0.9.43, Rayfract trial text is readable. But Windows
text font and common dialog font (open file etc.) is not configurable with
winecfg and still is unreadable. Also, winecfg text is still shown as Surfer
symbols and unreadable.
After deleting these TrueType .ttf files in drive_c/windows/fonts, winecfg and
Raytrial work, but "Arial" window text and common dialog font is now resolved
to a Courier-like Serif font.
"Arial" was resolved fine to Sans Serif font for Wine 0.9.40 and earlier, even
with TrueType fonts installed in drive_c/windows/fonts .
Thanks for your time with this,
Siegfried.

Some ddraw applications need a custom pixelformat. This is for some reason
tolerated by nvidia and ati drivers, but doesn't work with the refrast or on
matrox cards. We need a test to find out how nvidia and ati deal with that.
Maybe they use R5G6B5 like the patch does, or they really use the R5X6G5 format
this app tries to use and we may need to convert the surface. (Explanation
kindly copy&pasted together from Stefan Dösinger.)

I can confirm this with newest Wine 0.0.43 and at least the following games:
Doom 3 (and the expansions)
Quake 3
Strangely enough, HL2DM for example does work fine (And Quake 2).
I have Razer Copperhead - I tried reducing DPI to the lowest, still the same.
Strangely when I plugged in some old optical Logitech mouse, the effect wasn't
so fatal, but still unplayable.
When moving from the keyboard, both games run smoothly.

I haven't forgotten this bug ;) By accident I noted that the video drivers on
an old Windows box didn't advertise Stereo. Which meant that I was able to test
the correct behavior. Indeed PFD_STEREO should be ignored. The problem was that
we didn't find MSDN very clear and wanted to be certain that this was the way
to go.
I have submitted a patch to wine-patches :)

The wine-0.9.43 behaviour that everyone is now having is the same as I have
always had.
Where it doesn't freeze, it simply doesn't go in the right direction or move
correctly, especially at lower speeds, and especially in the menu. (But still
in the game and at higher speeds, just not as much.)
Maybe a new bug should be opened for this?

I tested with 0.9.43 and the situation improved a lot! Although the menu still
detaches when I move the application window the menu does no longer stay ontop
of other applications. Another interesting thing is that the menu jumps back to
the correct positon after a few seconds.
If the behaviour would be correct (closing the menu when clicking on the
application window title bar) we could close the bug.

>From both the stack trace and the log it is clear that the deadlock occurs when
the callback in WAIL32.DLL calls SuspendThread(). Now if you disassemble
WAIL32.DLL and look at the callback, calling SuspendThread() is the first thing
it does.
The MSDN doesn't document on which thread DCB_FUNCTION callbacks get called,
but it is very strict in terms of what functions the callback can call and
SuspendThread() definitely isn't on the list, so I wrote a test app that calls
the same WINMM.DLL functions as HEROES/WAIL32.DLL and notes the thread on which
the callback is invoked.

Callback thread=-887749 hdev=82F8DCAC, wMsg=955, dwUser=0, dwParam1=0,
dwParam2=0
On wine and Windows XP:
Current thread = 1564
<snip>
Callback thread=1564 hdev=0024B660, wMsg=955, dwUser=0, dwParam1=0, dwParam2=0
So on Windows 98, the callback is invoked on a different thread to the one that
calls waveOutOpen(), while on wine and Windows XP it is the same thread. Now
bearing in mind that Heroes is made for Windows 95 and doesn't work on Windows
2000, it could well be that Windows XP autodetects that the game expects
Windows 9x semantics for callbacks and does them that way while doing them
differently for my test, which would mean wine is calling the callback on the
wrong thread.

I had a similar problem - once the setup reached the licence agreement,
pressing any buttons would freeze the setup completely (although the music was
still playing etc.)
No idea whether this will help your (similar) problem, but enabling the virtual
wine desktop allowed the setup to continue after pressing the "Yes" button on
the licence screen (it didn't freeze).
Setup seems very "fragile" though :/

Hey Kai, i will made it for you... just give me some minutes.
Still now, the iptables workarround is sucessful in several server; i will try
Ragnamania-Lumina just now...
but that server have a ulgy problem... Like other games, it tries to make use
of NDIS.SYS; where's a sample about that:
err:module:import_dll Library NDIS.SYS (which is needed by
L"E:\\XileRO\\RO\\npkcrypt.sys") not found
err:winedevice:ServiceMain driver L"npkcrypt" failed to load
err:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne underrun on sound buffer 0x1e1068
err:module:import_dll Library NDIS.SYS (which is needed by
L"E:\\XileRO\\RO\\npkcrypt.sys") not found
err:winedevice:ServiceMain driver L"npkcrypt" failed to load
err:winedevice:ServiceMain driver L"npkycryp" failed to load
err:winedevice:ServiceMain driver L"npkycryp" failed to load
That three winedevice erros take more than one minute to disappear...
It's also affect Lineage 2 over private servers...
I'm sure that is a big thing to implement; i remember, wine 0.9.36 aren't able
to open lineage, but 0.9.40 does it very well, just that freeze time oop, and
later become simply perfect*
the msn funcion ar no enabled, but who cares, :D
soon i will post your winsock trace. And thank you very much for the work, you
are great!!!

Running the game with wine set to virtual desktop emulation and additionally
using nice/renice -20 has prevented the game from locking up the whole system
(or atleast it locks up after a longer period of time now) - however it spikes
to 100% CPU (thus causing FPS to drop to about 7) - and my feeling is that
without nice -20 it would lock the system up during one of these 100% spikes
(ie as before).

Games can use 100% of CPU by design. Games can also use 100% of CPU when you
are running in a software renderer. We can't do anything for this bug unless
you can prove where Wine is being slow (meaning we need profiling data).

It also appears to cause the same failure running borland's BC++ 4.5 IDE,
Delphi 1 IDE and any of the program I have created with the above products. I
would like to port my applications to 32 bit but the memory sharing between
processes using a DLL is much easier in 16 bit windows vs 32 bit. A sample 16
bit exe is at this link http://arcelectronicsinc.com/testinfo/kpnl1tester.zip
