The installation went almost flawlessly. (One box does not work, you must hit the return key instead.) Turned microphone on and up through alsamixer. Then did training. The training scrolls past on the screen but stopped and started correctly when I hit "Enter." Training seemed to go perfectly. Training files seemed to save without a problem. In virtual desktop mode, WA minimizes itself any time I click on any button in the frontend. Upon restoring, I find that clicking the button also didn't have any other effect. Even if WA always restored properly, the game would still be unusable for me because I cannot possibly navigate away from the main menu. This is the bug I meant to report. Other people I've talked to who use WA in a virtual desktop do not have this problem. It seems something about my setup is triggering it, but I've not been able to figure out what. 2. Minimization in WA never really worked correctly, and when it did work it only worked in the frontend and in virtual desktop mode (this is actually 4 subproblems: restoring sometimes fails in the frontend in virtual desktop mode, restoring always fails in the frontend in fullscreen mode, the in-game minimization option has no effect, and WA can't restore after being minimized in-game due to another program having focus). In the past, I've never noticed any pattern to when I can and can't restore the WA frontend, but now I've found that I can only do it once per session. I mentioned this because I thought it might be related. 3. In virtual desktop mode, WA minimizes itself when another program that is outside of the virtual desktop gains focus. The old way makes more sense to me personally (I assume programs in virtual desktops never used to know when this happened), but I've been assuming the change is intentional. I'm new to Linux so it took me a while, but nonetheless it was worth it. I can now play RO on private servers just fine. Here is what I did. 1. Found server's ip in data/sclientinfo.xml. Also take notice of your server's port number, this may be useful later. a. If your server doesn't have this you may need to unpack server's customized grf file first. 2. If your server doesn't use an ip address directly, open a Terminal and ping for the address. Once you have the true IP address save it in a text file. 3. Find out the "bad/scrambled/wrong IP" using iptraf. Download and install iptraf. Close EVERYTHING you have (web browser, pidgin, etc.) 4. sudo iptraf -> IP Traffic Monitor -> All interfaces 5. Open your RO client. Try to login, once it says "Failed to Connect to Server," Look over at the iptraf window. 6. Find the ip that showed up when the "Failed to Connect to Server" popped up. It SHOULD also have the same port number as the data/sclientinfo.xml Copy this ip down as well. 7. Close iptraf 8. You now have two ip's. The "true" (pinged) ip, and the "bad" ip. 9. sudo iptables -t nat -A OUTPUT -d (bad ip here) -j DNAT --to (true ip here) Remove the ( )'s, try to log into RO again and it should work =)! I hope this is clear for those who couldn't figure out what the others were talking about. (see comment 10) The next stage in bug hunting was to take a the render surface using IWineD3DSurfaceImpl_SaveSnapshot or similar. my IRC log: 14:25 < stefand> thats odd. take a look at IWineD3DSurfaceImpl_SaveSnapshot 14:26 < stefand> you can write a snapshot of the surface to the disk on unlock 14:26 < stefand> and see if the content is contructed correctly, or if there's some problem above that 14:26 < stefand> but you may rather try to use IWineGDISurfaceImpl_SaveSnapshot instead of the D3D one 14:27 < stefand> because the GDI function writes the snapshot from the system memory copy, while the d3d one draws from gl. 14:27 < stefand> it doesn't arrive properly at gl, so the D3D savesnapshot will give you a black screen 14:27 < stefand> you can add a IWineGDISurfaceImpl_SaveSnapshot in UnlockRect, in the render target codepath(that calls the ActivateContext(...
