Nikon View (found here
http://support.nikontech.com/cgi-bin/nikonusa.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?p…
)
is an app that supports my Nikon SLR camera. It has a number of components.
NkvBrows.exe displays thumbnails of .nef (Nikon's RAW image format) as well as
other popular formats such as .jpg. It converts file between formats nicely
(thanks guys).
However, when you double click a thumbnail it is to open the file in another
"Nikon Viewer" program. This program launches correctly, but the image isn't
displayed.
If I run NkvBrows.exe from a terminal window, I receive this error message,
which I'll attempt to attach (this is my first bug report).
The bug essentially says that the "ole:marshal_object couldn't get IPSFactory
buffer for interface", whatever that means.
Is there anything I can do to help get this fixed?

A fixme is a developer's note. To file a bug based on a fixme, you need to prove
adverse side effects in the related functionality. Seeing the message does not
qualify. Until you provide information, resolved invalid.

You are jocking, 90% of the demos released in the past 2 years are
copyprotected. Downloading 1gb and then find out that you can't run it on wine
is senseless to me.
I have GT: Legends and GTR Demo installed. And both fail due starforce. So
theres really no hope that GTR2 wont be copyprotected.

No, I just discovered this bug when testing on (very) old hardware, usually I'm
using true color only. And this bug is very seldom since high color modes of
most cards today are 16 bits.
GetDeviceCaps must return 16 in the case of high color, both for 15 and for 16
bits, so this function cannot differentiate between the two.
msdn:
"When nIndex is BITSPIXEL and the device has 15bpp or 16bpp, the return value is
16."

Is this a total freeze? Or can someone alt-tab, switch to console or ssh? Please
try attaching a debugger to the process and getting a back trace.

Just a side-note on this bug: I get this very same output like you in Doom3 retail:
trace:wgl:dump_PIXELFORMATDESCRIPTOR - dwFlags : PFD_DOUBLEBUFFER
PFD_DRAW_TO_WINDOW PFD_STEREO PFD_SUPPORT_OPENGL
trace:wgl:X11DRV_ChoosePixelFormat No matching mode was found returning 0
trace:wgl:X11DRV_DescribePixelFormat (0x17c1218,0,0,(nil))

See http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7015 to see that there is a bug in
wine's code how it handles the PFD_STEREO stereo flag. I dunno if this the
problem here too however. For now i use following stupid hack below to start
Doom3, maybe it changes something in your app too

Well I can confirm that on a single core cpu, the quick race works. On a
multicore cpu the situation is much worse.
Also I can say, that those crashes can even occur with sound disabled.

One, are you running in 15bpp mode? And, two, why not call GetDeviceCaps
directly? After all, that is what the original report is talking about, right?
Internally to winex11, it just gives what "screen_depth" is, which is read
directly from X, and it should be 15 when you are running 15bpp is my guess. I
no longer use a video device that supports 15bpp, so I can't test.

After the "Fatal Error: Error creating game rendering context." dialog, the
game console output is shown in a window (only last lines) with a "copy"
button. I pasted this text in the attach. There is an strange line:
"Vendor:0000 Device:0000" near the initialization of OpenGL.
Maybe the graphic card is not detected (or the vendor/device strings not
correctly passed. related to Unicode strings recent changes?), so it cannot
render the game...

I'm using "WINE desktop" because of the minimizing bug so I can minimize with
all tool panels at once. The bug only occurs here when in WINE desktop mode. I
found that when I move away the main window (the one with the gray background)
the tool panels are behind this window. They have not really disappeared but
somehow WINE doesnt seem to understand that the tool panels belong to the main
window and should always be on top of it. The bug doesnt always but most of
the time happen when the main window is focused. It comes to the front - and
all tool panels vanish behind it so to an "untrained eye" it seems they have
disappeared. Perhaps this helps solving this bug...

Summary: Sounds stutters using ALSA and CounterStrike 1.6
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-multimedia
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Alexqw85(a)gmail.com
The sound while playing Counterstrike 1.6 is choppy and slows down the entire
interface. The sound worked fine back with the (broken) aRts driver and when
that was removed I went to ALSA where I've since had this problem. I'll attach
the output from running "WINEDEBUG=warn+dsound wine Steam" (I launch CS through
Steam).
I am using 0.9.42 and have a clean .wine directory. This problem likely
existed in ALSA long before aRts was removed from Wine, so I'm not sure how
useful the version information is.
I don't know much about which options to tweak in the audio tab of winecfg,
but I have only ALSA enabled, hardware acceleration is full, default sample rate
is 22050, default bits per sample is 8, and driver emulation is unchecked.
Let me know what additional information I can provide.

This is probably invalid. "root@sun2" indicates that person _did_ run something

I have never seen this, nor I have ever seen anyone else with this problem.
Unless they _explicitly_ ran Wine as root (mostly using 'sudo').

I think you have deleted wines comdlg.dll by placing your downloaded version
into your system32 folder. Can you try reinstalling wine and putting your .dll
files into the program folder instead. Then have another go seeing if the

hacked-Wine output, as it crashes on exit
Don't get confused, it's not the output of regular Wine, it's Wine with my
crude hack Force Feedback patch. (Also I used WINEDEBUG=fixme-dinput to remove
all the uninteresting fixme's messages that gets repeated alot.)

Summary: Force Feedback doesn't work but does after little source
modification
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.42.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dinput
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: geraldf2(a)free.fr
Hello,
I have a racing wheel game controller with force feedback, all working
on GNU/Linux. It does only Constant type force feedback (no Rumble or
Periodic effects, but that's ok since Constant force is the most
interesting type anyway).
With the games "Grand Prix Legends" and "LFS S2 Alpha (unlockable
demo)", and with Wine (0.9.42) as-is Force Feedback won't work.
However, after some very small modifications in Wine's dinput code, I
managed to get Force Feedback working well in both LFS and
GPLegends. See the attached patch but note it's quick/crude hack that
probably breaks some other games' FF (from now on I may use "FF" to
mean "Force Feedback").
I'm not competent enough to make a proper patch, that's why I
submit this as a bug report. As I said it's only quick/crude hacks,
that probably breaks some other game's FF. Also that makes Wine crash
on exit (I attached a modified-Wine's error output in case it's of any
interest, BUT NOTE that it is what happens ONLY WITH my little hack
(when you quit the game after some Force Feedback has been played and
Wine exit), so don't get confused because it's not the error output of
standard Wine. (I used 'WINEDEBUG=fixme-dinput' to avoid it being
flooded with fixme's as there are a lot of them repeating again and
again)).
I hope this info can be useful enough for Wine developers to attempt a
fix for these little problems, tough I imagine that it's not easy if
you don't have any force feedback capable device to test with. Anyway
if at one point one would like me to test a patch on my box you can
ask me. Also note that if you want to test "Grand Prix Legends" you
can download the "2004 demo" (
http://www.bhmotorsports.com/GPL/downloads/3239 ), as it's really in
fact the complete game but only including one track. For LFS, the
unlockable demo is here: http://www.lfs.net/?page=downloads .
Here's a brief description of what does the attached patch:
- Comment out a 'return DIERR_UNSUPPORTED;' that prevented FF to work
in LFS.
- Add a 'DIDOI_FFACTUATOR' in some dwFlags (X and Y axis) because
Grand Prix Legends wants to see that or else it wont attempt any FF
stuff.
- Don't 'return DIERR_INCOMPLETEEFFECT;' if (peff->cAxes<1) in
LinuxInputEffectImpl_SetParameters(...). That prevented FF to work
in LFS.
- Comment out some envelope initialisation(?) stuff that made my wheel
jerks very violently when FF plays (kinda like a pneumatic hammer).
- Add a 'This->effect.replay.delay = 0;' that makes FF in Grand Prix
Legends work. I think the problem here may be related to the fact
that Wine is setting this value with 'peff->dwStartDelay / 1000',
but I did read somewhere (some msdn site) about dwStartDelay that
"This member is not present in versions prior to DirectX 7.0.", and
Grand Prix Legends is a 1998/1999 game that is, probably, DirectX 5,
or at best 6. So dwStartDelay should probably not be used in this
case, since the game doesn't even set it (?).
That's all. If you want me to try something or post some Wine trace
output tell me.
Thanks for reading.

Final Fantasy 7 seems to get stuck or deadlocked on startup, showing only a
black screen that does not update. The threads seem to hang in winmm.
To run the game, MIDI support is needed. This can be done by starting timidity
in alsa server mode(timidity -iA), then running the game.
A winedbg session brings up this:

Yes, this is still happening with wine-0.9.42 and fvwm-2.5.21. :-/
Is there anything ugly we can do inside wine to prevent this? Asking users to
mangle their wm configs seems excessive.. ick.
I hate Lotus Notes.

This is indeed very interesting. In version .38 I only need msxml3
override. comdlg32 is not required for the multiple ascii import to work
in WinXP mode. I did not try to delete the comdlg32 from the system32
directory, but it shouldn't be used anyway, if I don't do the override
by winecfg, right?
So to sum up: Everything seems to work fine with the following config:
Mode: WinXP
override: msxml3
wine: 0.9.38

Confirmed. The original bug seems to be fixed (but note that you
need to cd into the program directory to avoid another error).
Next problem is that openssl returns error 18 (self signed certificate)
for the certificate used by the game's site. If you point your browser
to that site or run this command you'll get the same error:
$ openssl s_client -connect www.kumagames.com:443
I guess this works in Windows because the user has already visited
the site (presumably to download the software or register an account)
and accepted the bogus certificate. On Windows winhttp then consults
the user's trusted certificates list and finds it.
A workaround would be to configure your openssl installation to accept
self-signed certificates (or just this certificate, to be on the
safe side). A real solution probably entails a full implementation
of SSL in Wine.

Well that sucks, the code my patch disables is the client-side DIB copy
optimization I wrote that makes games like Heroes of Might and Magic 4 playable
(bug 3902).
Unfortunately I don't know what the real problem is, and it's unlikely to be
quickly fixed.

i)With or without the patch there isn't any corruption upon resizing
ii)Scrolling upwards is fine now with the patch and the reported corruption is
gone :D
iii)A non-scientific test of scrolling speed makes it look like its not changed.
Holding down the scroll button and timing how long it takes to get to the end of
the page
without patch
25 seconds
with patch
24 seconds
thus no significant change in scroll speed

I spent a lot of time investigating this problem.
The slowdown is not due to missing registry keys, but inefficiency in desktop
folder implementation of builtin shell32. Using native shell32.dll from a win2k

I found a page here, from a guy who claims to have it running quite succesfully.
It might be interesting for 2 reasons:
1. He doesn't mention long start up time at all, so this bug might be due to
missing Adobe registry keys after all (maybe an installer bug?).
2. It mentions how to import registry keys from a windows installation. I
thought this wasn't possible anymore in wine, but the method described by this
guy, works indeed (i checked for simple other app).

When trying to test bug 3692, I installed the Gothic 2 demo and attempted to
run. Install went fine, but when running, the program spits out an error:
Conflict: a hook process was found. Please deactivate all Antivirus and
Anti-Trojan programs and debuggers.
Terminal doesn't output anything useful.

The (initial) problem here is setupapi, as our implementation only allows
double quotes as delimiters but this uses single quotes. Changing parser.c so
the quotes state is entered for both single and double quotes gets beyond that
problem but it then bombs out later on... More work required

Can't really say since WINE hasn't worked at all anymore on my older machine
since the XInitThreads patch of 6 Oct 2006 (BUG 7653). I tried SOF2 on my new
machine yesterday and it didn't have these reinit problems; but I can't say
whether the reinit problems were actually fixed in WINE or never manifested on
the new machine in the first place due to different runtime libs. I suppose you
can change this BUG to fixed because it looks like WINE doesn't work at all
anymore on machines prone to have this problem in the first place. Whether it
actually _is_ fixed remains to be seen.

After analyzing the KDE directories myself, I have to admit now that your
assessment is essentially accurate, in that the bug is with KDE and not with
WINE. I'm sorry that I was so difficult before accepting this.
I've also learned that 'kmenuedit' appears to store editing of the main K-Menu
into a separate file, in which deleted entries remain deleted and not
re-attached by other processes. When I deleted this file yesterday, the WINE
application icons re-appeared under the "Lost And Found" sub-menu, which I think
is the direct answer to your last question.
But it seems to be a misbehaviour of my KDE version, that applications can't
create new sub-menus directly within the Applications root menu, for which
reason the exercise of deleting all my K-Menu directories would not succeed at
resolving the KDE bug.
On my Laptop in now recall having upgraded my KDE version months ago, but also
having lost other, non-WINE menu entries to the Lost And Found menu, for which
reason I'm hesitant just to upgrade my KDE version on the server.
Also, since our last messages ended on such a negative note, I can understand
that you might not want to offer more interpretations of the fact that the
entries are being collected under "Lost And Found." I'm truly sory about that
and agree that this bug report should remain closed.

Good point ;-)
Panorama Maker 3.5 was shipped with a bunch of digital cameras, such as HP
cameras. Nowadays, Panorama Maker ships Panorama Maker 4 which looks quite
different :
http://www.arcsoft.com/support/downloads/demoversion.asp?title=7
(Actually, the UI of 3.5 was horrible... Anyway...)
Note that if you have version 3.0 with your camera, you may upgrade it to 3.5 :
http://www.arcsoft.com/support/downloads/downloadview.asp?downloadid=256
As I am concerned about version 3.5, I did a bit of Google and I found an
eval/trial version of 3.5 on the web :
http://www.download.net.pl/3225/ArcSoft-Panorama-Maker/
I don't know anything about this site, but it seems to be genuine. Note that
the site opens a weird popup that did not work in Mozilla and was blocked in IE6
popup blocker.
Further Google did show that I could get the file from the source :
http://base.arcsoft.com/downloads/tbyb/PanoramaMaker3.exe
That should be much less scary than the first link ;-) I installed that one
and it looks similar to what I got with my camera (except I don't have the
initial registration window).
Have fun...
