This is due to missing direct play lobbied application COM object
Submitted patch to add in stubs, and app starts (a couple of fixmes due to
the new stubs) without moaning about missing directx8 support..
Obviously, if you actually want the direct play functionality, it'll
be a seperate bug (and seperate implementor!)

`./configure --verbose` should answer all your questions.
However this is not a user support forum. Wine compiles and works even on Gentoo
(as evident by huge number of submitted test results).

Ok, I've tried the patch but the program still does not run correctly and I am
unable to program PICs using the device. It seems to be the same behaviour.
I did try to capture the output from the debug but it pours out very rapidly and
quickly over runs the available history in konsole terminal before i can
terminate the program.
I tried various things with | > tee and trying to capture the terminal output to
a file to attach here but couldn't get it to work... any hints welcome :o)
I've reverted to 0.9.22 for the moment.
Thanks for the help so far.

Using Wine version 0.9.42... open Troopmaster using current database from hard
drive, then go into DOTNET settings and unlock database, then download current
database from DOTNET. You will be put back to main window and everything will
seem to work normally, but it does not... Exit from program... save backup at
the prompt. When the program closes out you can run the program again and it
will seem to run normally.
There is a new bug but I think it has to do with a corrupted database more than
anything... the bug shows itself when I click on the Youth Management icon/menu
link. The program will close itself.
Can someone reproduce what I have done and verify the new bug please?
Thank you,
Tim

This override only leads to full function if Origin7.5 is run in Win95/98/NT
modes. (Wine 0.9.42)
In XP/WIN2000 mode without override -> dialog box closes as soon as 1st
selection is made (the dialog is designed to select multiple files)
with this on the command line:
fixme:commdlg:GetFileName95 Flags 0x00800000 not yet implemented
In XP/WIN2000 mode with override -> Dialog box only showing folders, no files,
and the pull down 'Look in' selector leads to items only displaying the 1st
character of the folder name
with this on the command line:

fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate (0x800d2), partial stub!
fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub!
err:shell:ReadCabinetState Initializing shell cabinet settings
In WIN95/85/NT mode without override -> dialog box displays fine but selecting a
file prematurely closes the window.
opening dialog leads to this on the command line:
fixme:commdlg:GetFileName95 Flags 0x00800000 not yet implemented
In WIN95/85/NT mode with override -> Works fine
opening dialog leads to this on the command line:

fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate (0x30034), partial stub!
fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub!

The crash happens as soon as the override list has at least one element.

As far as I can see, developers of this software have made some silent updates
in their binaries. I tried to run a CubeIQ which I download 2-3 weeks ago, but
just now I re-download trial and it works.
But old trial does not work; btw because new version of CubeIQ works fine I
consider the problem solved for me :)

Same here, using version .38 (after downgrading from version .42).
In other applications, like IrfanView the dialogs work. However, in the

Did running with real ie6 get you further?
We can't tell from your report.
In any case, we don't support running with ie6 or ies4linux,
so if that doesn't solve your problems, we pretty
much can't help. I'm going to leave this bug open
for the original problem, not for the one that happens
when used with ie6.

What exactly is the problem, do you see a splash screen and it hangs? Or does it
just return to the console silently.
The trial you pointed to starts just fine, except there's a hidden messagebox
during start. Just hit enter when it hangs, or run it in a virtual desktop.
Could you report back what exactly the problem is? Thx

To reproduce this, please run against a real IE6 install instead of the fake one.
I had been running the installer against a fresh wine instance set up by
ies4linux, which included the actual ie6 software, as per
http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/page/Main_Page
I just tried making a new .wine and ran winetricks fakeie6 and ran the
installer, and as you say, it didn't get the error it previously got, but it
also didn't launch the update process window that is part of installation as it
did after installing the full ie6.
I will attach the output that you request.

Something quite strange happens in Photoshop 6 Tryout
when you do File / New. The filename is truncated
to just U instead of Untitled, and when you
click OK, it says "This image would be too large
to store in a file", for no obvious reason.
Playing around with it at all often yields
the error "Invalid numeric entry." This last
error happens in many other places in the program,
including when you try to exit the app.

My son just started seeing this too - not after a software or game upgrade -
seems to happen in some situations and not others - but it makes the game
pretty useless - to make matters worse .xsessionerrors fills (the disk) with
trace eventually making the box die sadly - then it goes away - must be
somehow tied to in-game content/context

no, sadly, I couldnt find the demo of the redux version. the orig 96
version does have a demo, but I think thats too old to be usefull here
(and in any case it requires some even more ancient and unbundled
version of Quicktime to run..)
The game itself is not too large, though, 1CD. I dont know if this is
a too inappropriate proposal, but I could offer a torrent of it; the
authorities dont seem to care much about p2p in my country...

Works for me, but you do need a manifest for "Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls"
for the beta to start.
Something like this should be enough for Wine:

I can play WA in virtual desktop mode here (Wine 0.9.42 on Fedora 7). Worms
Armageddon (3.6.28.0) does not minimize itself when using the main menu in
virtual desktop mode.
But if I change focus from the virtual desktop to another window and back
again, Worms seems to minimize (there is a Worms icon in the lower left of the
virtual desktop) and I get the following lines on the console (only the second
one when using hacked ddraw.dll):
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DStateBlockImpl_Release Releasing primary stateblock
fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub!
By double clicking onto the icon in the lower left I can restore WA but instead
of a black screen I now have a gray one where I can see the shapes of some of
the controlls of the menus (everything is normal with hacked ddraw.dll).
Terminal shows the following lines (same as when the menu comes up for the
first time):
fixme:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_SetCooperativeLevel (0x16db20)->(0x10028,00000011)
fixme:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_SetCooperativeLevel (0x16db20)->(0x10028,00000011)
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 8
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_CreateAdditionalSwapChain The app requests more
than one back buffer, this can't be supported properly. Please configure the
application to use double buffering(=1 back buffer) if possible
Sometimes I also see this line (didn't get it with hacked ddraw.dll):
fixme:d3d_surface:surface_upload_data >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_VALUE
(0x501) from glTexSubImage2D @ surface.c / 195
If I repeat this, WA sometimes crashes (WA creates an errorlog.txt with lots of
Information), sometimes it does not, did not find out what actions make it
crash (with hacked ddraw.dll I have not seen a crash here).

With OffscreenRenderingMode=pbuffer is map OK, but outdoor is unplayable (much
lower performance then fbo) and indoor has better performance then fbo.

Also, there is a patch from 3DRealms to update it to version 1.3 and it seems

I'm going to try that version as well, as it may go farther.

Summary: Roller Coaster Tycoon Will not switch to fullscreen
(EnumDisplayModes bug?)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.42.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-ddraw
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: phillipezolt(a)gmail.com
In roller coaster tycoon, when I try to switch to full-screen mode 640x480 (from
windowed), it won't work. The application stays in windowed mode and turns
black. (I can get the window back by moving various sub-windows around.)
'xrandr -s 640x480' works so it isn't a permission problem. Also, another
version of roller coaster tycoon (Rct2) works just fine.
This used to work with:
1) FC6
2) Wine (v.????)
3) Original Roller Coaster Tycoon
But then I upgraded to:
1) FC7,
2) wine 0.9.42,
3) RCT + Corkscreen Follies V. 1.20.013
And things don't work. I reverted to wine-0.9.36-2.fc7, and that also doesn't
work.
I traced the ddraw code, and I have a theory (which I can't yet prove) about why
it is failing:
On windows, EnumDisplayModes returns the lower bitdepth versions of a resolution
before the high bitdepth versions. When running on wine the 32-bit version is
returned first. On wine, the application sees that it has 32-bit bitdepth
version of the resolution and (erroneously) decides that means it already missed
the 8-bit version.
Here's why I say that:
Looking at the trace these are the last few lines after issuing the request, the
application terminates the enumeration after it sees a 640x480@32, and never
gets to the 640x480@8:
trace:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_EnumDisplayModes
(0x16e3e8)->((nil),0x32fd10,0x60fd5120): Relay
.....
trace:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_EnumDisplayModes Enumerating 800x600@32
trace:ddraw:PixelFormat_WineD3DtoDD Converting WINED3DFORMAT 22 to DDRAW
trace:ddraw:PixelFormat_WineD3DtoDD Returning: ( DDPF_RGB , RGB bits: 32, R
00ff0000 G 0000ff00 B 000000ff)
trace:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_EnumDisplayModes Enumerating 640x480@32
trace:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_EnumDisplayModes Application asked to terminate the
enumeration
....
If I look at the whole trace, EARLIER in the execution that application does
iterate through all of the modes, and the 640x480@8 modes show up. However,
every attempt at full screen stops with 640x480@32.
BTW. I looked at the wine code, and it wasn't immediately obvious how to
reorder things so that this is sorted. Suggestions welcome.

I can confirm the crash for we8.exe. (however settings.exe works just fine right
here). For me, the crash in we8.exe only happens when i choose the (default)
setting Resolution 800x600 in setting.exe.
When choosing 640x480, the game starts up just fine for me (though i had to use
some native dlls for DirectMusic, to work around another crash)
