Is this still a problem? What's the exact midl command used on the command line?
Running:
wine Midl.exe -I../include ISimpleDOMNode.idl
from the directory with midl.exe works for me. I have the same version of midl
and wine 0.9.42.

Please - this is not the IE problem I'm reporting, Vitaliy! That just was a
coincidence that I thought might be related. I've since confirmed that .41
works, while .42 (on repeated installations) fails.
Austin, it may be 16-bit - it was Windows 3.1 originally. By "try the latest
git" you mean install from cvs via that route? That's a different request than
using git to do a .41 and .42 comparison, right?

set | grep XDG produced null output.
I was finding that before I tried to remove v 0.9.40 , and reinstalled WINE v
0.9.42 , the uninstaller for the chess program "Arasan" didn't work. For which
reason I didn't reinstall it intentionally. And of course I've learned that to
install jre under WINE was first nonsense of me.

Summary: Add "ProxyEnable" registry key to fix FLStudio internet
features
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.42.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ghettopolak04(a)hotmail.com
I'm not sure which component this should be assigned to, so I selected
wine-misc.
FL Studio 7 needs the attached registry key for a few features to work.
Without the registry key several internet related functions like downloading
sound banks and the news reader don't work. If you try to activate the news
reader without the registry key a small popup will appear saying:
Failed to get data for "ProxyEnable".
(ProxyEnable is the registry key name)
The missing registry key will also cause FL Studio to crash the next time it's
run if the (not working) news reader is not disabled before closing the
program.
The solutions in this case would be to delete the entire FL Studio registry
entries. Not very user friendly. :P
Would it be possible to include this key in Wine by default?

Thanks for spotting that I was only mentioning the ies4win thing in passing -
thinking maybe they could spring from the same problem.
Gentoo doesn't have slots for wine, so I think I'll need to do manual installs
of the several versions. The wiki description of git seems vague. The examples
it gives do not obviously match this situation - they apply to cvs builds and
patches. I'm willing to do the parallel manual installs if you can specify the
git commands to enter in this instance, and what to do afterwards.

Summary: Internet explorer 6 address bar problems
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.41.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jon.fairbairn(a)cl.cam.ac.uk
On loading Internet Explorer 6 (installed via IEs4Linux) only the first
character of the address is displayed in the address bar (ie an "h" for http...
or an "a" for about:...), and addresses typed in here fail to load with a "The
page cannot be displayed" error. While typing into the address bar, although the
characters entered appear in the address bar correctly, the pop-up 'Search for
"..."' collapses pairs of characters into question marks. ie entering an h will
show 'Search for "h"' but following that with a t will show 'Search for "?"', a
second t gives 'Search for "?t" and a p gives 'Search for "??"' and so on.
The problem arose between 0.9.39 and 0.9.41, and doesn't present with IE 5 or 5.5
There are various reports of this at
http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2492&sid=4e652fc6…
and it's bug 248999 on bugzila.redhat.com, where it is suggested that it still
worked in 0.9.40 and doesn't work in 0.9.42

After setting up fakeie6 and native DCOM using winetricks, the former messages
on the console disappeared and were replaced by following error:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x80000d48 at address 0x65f23798

After that InstallShield didn't make any progress - the program was hanging.
Output WINEDEBUG=warn+all is attached.

Wine failing at InfoSelect loading
InfoSelect 1.0 for Windows has run fine on Wine for several years at least.
(The only glitch being that if an entry is left open in IS, and you go to a
different screen and back in KDE, the IS window gets overwritten by the
contents of the second screen visited. If you remember to close your windows
before switching screens, it has worked flawlessly and completely.)

InfoSelect for Windows 1.0 - which works well on prior versions of Wine - evokes
a Wine error on startup and won't run. (Coincidentally, ies4lin, which runs fine
on prior versions of Wine, doesn't accept URL line input in 0.9.42.)
This is on a current Gentoo system installed from portage.

the last lines of the console output were:

err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"ExecuteAction" returned 1603

Summary: WINE does not process kernel oplocks correctly
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.36.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P3
Component: wine-files
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: anpaza(a)mail.ru
WINE does not handle correctly kernel oplocks on Linux.
The easiest way to reproduce this problem is the following.
1. Install the Samba server software and set it up.
2. Make sure kernel oplocks are enabled in Samba (they are by default). Just to
be sure you may add the line:
kernel oplocks = yes
into the [global] section in smb.conf.
3. Launch the server and mount the share on some computer (even on the same
should work).
4. Open some file and keep it open (for example, "tail -f windows.h"). Samba
will create an oplock for this file.
5. Try to open this file from a Wine program, for example:
[2|root@alpha|/mnt/0/devel/gw32/include]wine cmd
CMD Version 0.9.36
Z:\mnt\0\devel\gw32\include>type windows.h
Sharing violation
windows.h :Failed
For some reason the first try to open this file fails (when the kernel oplock
breaks and the Samba client gets notified that somebody else is also accessing
this file). Now if you try the same command again:
Z:\mnt\0\devel\gw32\include>type windows.h
/*
...
it will succeed since the oplock is already broken.
A workaround for this is to disable the use of kernel oplocks in samba, but this
leads to bad performance in clients since they may not cache network files anymore.

Got the same problem.
Wine 0.9.42 introduced support for side-by side assemblies.
Could there be a connection to these "Library MSVCR80.dll (which is needed by
L"C:\\Program Files\\CCP\\EVE\\bin\\python25.dll") not found" etc... errors?

Well here are more things for you to consider:
bug 8564, bug 7775, bug 8867, bug 8866 and so on.
Some of those bugs are related. Some might be even caused by the same exact
piece of code.
Also d3d8 and d3d9 are still in the heavy development stage, not bug fixing
stage. Developers prefer making new bugs then fixing old ones :)

They are Not in different parts of the game. They are depends of different
settings in any place! i put screenshots only there where is no any debug
info.if someone need i can put some strace info or etc..
i know about regressions,i already found some.. but it's better resolve small
simple things then take big piece and rewrite whole things at once, especially
then they hardly connected..
One bug for ALL different gliches in one game will not help. Even programmer
won't be able to track the problems by this unless he has the game. is this
possible ? besides many games share same problems. if noone track this it will
be just obsoleted and abandoned:( whole sense of AppDB to connect same stuff
to each over will lost. if you realy persist i should come back only then i
became such a guy...

Wait for at least one of the bugs to be fixed. Wine's d3d code full of subtle
bugs that can brake lots and lots of things.
Also loads of reports like this are really helpful. Just looking at the image
won't tell anything about what happens and why does it happen.
However all of the problems you just reported are either known problems (in
other games) or the duplicates of each other.
It doesn't matter that you get these errors in different parts of the game.

Reopening then. Gregor, you better get some 'bt' traces yourself, as no one can
experiment with a game they don't have.
Run Wine under the winedbg, then when it hangs, press ctrl-c and when you get
prompt, type 'bt all'. Then attach here. But please make sure you do have Wine
compiled from source and that you running from that compile directory (so
binaries are not stripped and you have source).

since 0.9.41 (also 0.9.42) things have changed. Instead of crashing, it now says
"You have not entered a valid Product Key" when I press 'next', after entering
my key. This is the point at which it used to crash. In the windows log file, it
also returns a different error:
7/31/2007 9:20:12 PM Chained install return code: 1602
(instead of 1603 as before).
Lastly, there are now many binary files with names of form msi####.tmp that are
created in the windows temp directory.

Alrighty, marking this bug as abandoned. For those reading this, if you have a
problem with using a microphone in Wine, please open a new, specific bug for
that app.

I'm sorry, I can't confirm if this still is a problem.
I no longer play counterstrike (that issue was with 1.4, from Half Life 1) and I
don't know where I placed the install CD.

I can confirm that there's microphone problems in some apps. But that's pretty
broad. How about we narrow down this bug a little?

This bug is marked as comctl32-bug.
Does that mean the bug is gone with native comctl32? If so, the patch that
caused the regression is not a real "bad commit" but just revealed another bug,
right?

>Now I only have a little error:
>wine SimsPS.exe
>err:module:import_dll Library wined3d.dll (which is needed by
>L"c:\\windows\\system32\\d3d9.dll") not found
uhuh, that looks like a big problem to me... Something is wrong with your setup,
looks like wined3d isn't compiled in or something like that. If you compiled
wine from source check you have all required development packages installed ,
and hw accelerated video drivers etc. As long as you get this message in the
console there's no chance you can run any d3d game at all....
