Can you retest this bug? Opengl mode works fine for me with fullscreen at
640x480. At higher resolutions it only updates the lower left 640x480 pixels.
This works after switching to windowed mode with alt-enter and back to
fullscreen with alt-enter.
D3D mode works nice for me in fullscreen with all screen resolutions.
I tested this with Deus Ex Game of the Year edition from Steam.

Some installers wants that you install dx 9.0c. In this case the installer
copies a new dll file to the system32 dir.
It's named qedit.dll
You have to get rid of it or the game crashes directly after the nvidia logo.

Btw the problem is that that it minimizes itself - that is the way it behaves on
windows. The problem is that it can't regain focus properly. The crash most
likely related to reinitialization of the 3D.

On wine 0.9.42, when running Worms Armageddon in a virtual desktop, clicking a

remains at the main menu, and the game crashes after minimizing and restoring
the second time.
This makes it impossible to use WA at all in virtual desktop mode.

If the question is to me - I do not apply patch by patch, I build the whole
release.
As I stated in the very beginning, Wine version 0.9.40 is OK, Wine versions
0.9.41, 0.9.42 are broken.
If you are interested in versions of other libraries used to build Wine using
AppsFromScratch, here is autogenerated command line (sorry, it is long):

.
Again, versions of other libraries are exactly the same for all three
0.9.4[0,1,2] Wine versions.
...
My does not use root persmissions to be run, and it changes absolutely nothing
at system level. The command line to build Wine would be more or less like
this:
(\
/home/sergei/AppsFromScratch/20070526/bin/build.pl -make_like -check_with_ldd -targets_to_build
bash:pkg-config 1>build.prerequisites.log 2>&1; \

export PATH; \
/home/sergei/AppsFromScratch/20070526/bin/build.pl -make_like -check_with_ldd -sh_exec /maxtor5/sergei/AppsFromScratchWD/install/bash-3.2/bin/bash -targets_to_build
wine 1>build.wine.log 2>&1\
) &
- it's all you have to do on SUSE 10.2, MEPIS. With one line change in one of
my files the same command works on RHEL4.
So, if you want to reproduce my settings, I can upload the scripts.
The above command line is all one has to do - all environment variables
settings, calls to pkg-config, 'configure', 'make', 'make install', etc. are
performed by the tool.
Maybe you'll find it easier to try IE6 with the above mentioned versions of
Wine in whatever sandbox you have.

Interrupting the discussion about what is and isnt supported, have you tried
doing a regression test to work out what patch changed the behaviour.
Then it might be clearer as to whether the problem is introduced by mixing
native/non native libraries and the discussion can be based on the technical
merits of the patch in question.

It seems that this program is very critical to the pixelformats it receives. We
only have a single pixelformat for window rendering. At the moment I'm offering
this main window format and all float (offscreen) formats. I could mark some
other standard pixelformats as offscreen only. That would fix this program.

The comment regarding removing ~/.wine directory is irrelevant - before
filing the bug I did this on my desktop machine and then I had a build from
scratch on my laptop - on laptop before the build ~/.wine never existed.
I assure you that IE6 installation was performed from scratch.
For some reason you stubbornly refuse to understand that new Wine version
broke an application that used to work under Wine.
I even tried to clean up history, internet files, cookies in IE6 - the same
result - the 'h' letter is present.
I believe that presence/absence of characters in an entry field of a GUI
application is the direct consequence of the way that GUI widget is impelented
- it looks to me that something got broken WRT to IE6.

You are welcome to remove ~/.wine directory and DO NOT use ies4linux.
Again Wine DOES NOT and WILL NOT support ies4linux and it's screwed up Wine
configuration. It sets lots and lots of dlls to native. It is not Wine's goal to
make that sort of configuration working

Vitaliy,
I think you are missing the point here which is (rather are):
1) Wine was developed to enable running Windows applications on
non-Windows platform;
2) IE6 is a Windows application that used to run successfully under
Wine for many versions, and a simple way to make it run was to use
'ies4linux';
3) when Wine transitioned from version 0.9.40 to 0.9.41 the application (IE6)
stopped running - it has nothing to do with 'ies4linux' because the same
version 'ies4linux' is used;
4) 'ies4linux' just creates a setup for IE6, afterwads IE6 is run
using a command line like this:
/maxtor5/sergei/AppsFromScratchWD/install/wine-0.9.40/binsh/wine "/home/sergei/.ies4linux/ie6/drive_c/Program
Files/Internet Explorer/IEXPLORE.EXE" "$@"
5) the problem I see is in IE6 functionality, and, again, it ran just fine
on many versions of Wine up to 0.9.40 inclusive.
6) since the only factor that changed is Wine, it is the most likely
piece of the chain to blame - or you are going to tell me that presence
of that persistent 'h' letter in IE6 "Address" field IE6 bug and before
version 0.9.41 Wine used to successfully work around the alleged IE6 bug ?
At all, forget about 'ies4linux', start IE6 under Wine whatever way you
like.
If you wish, I can run 'ies4linux' script with '-v' option and post here
the commands it executed, and then you'll have to explain why these commands
cause presence of 'h' letter in Wine 0.9.41 and later and do not cause the
same problem in earlier versions of Wine.

The behaviour in the first report appears fixed - if I run notepad, ctrl+o for

identical behaviour on windows and wine
The 'windows' behaviour with '..' documented in comment #2 is not the same
behaviour I was seeing on my Windows XP box.

If you run Diablo II in Windows you _will_ notice that the window minimizes
itself when it has lost focus and resizes to its normal size once it is
reactivated. I think this is exactly what is happening when it loses focus under
wine. However, I have only seen it do this when I switch to another application
running in Wine.
You need not kill the application to get the window back as long as you can
memorize a few keystrokes. All you need to do is go from a game to the game
list. Since the game lists and the game itself use different resolutions, Diablo
will resize the window accordingly. When in game press ESC, UP, and then ENTER.
The only issue there of course is that you must leave your game, but its better
than killing it, at least you can reenter the game if it still exists.
One way that a solution can be created can also create a solution for numerous
other issues with window sizes. Which is if wine can be made to ignore window
size restrictions. In other words, let me resize all windows even if the window
was not created with that option, if possible. Of course, this may not work for
any app that forces itself back to its preferred size, but I don't know that
there are many that do.
As far as the Alt key moving the Window I don't think that it is really an issue
that needs to be solved by Wine. Either change the key that moves the window or
change the key you use to pick up items. I switched mine to the space bar
shortly after I started playing Diablo II. I keep my fingers over the function
and number keys for fast access and I found that using Alt was cramping my
fingers. Perhaps it is because I use a tightly packed laptop keyboard, but I
find the space bar gives my thumb much more freedom.
Hope this was helpful.

Summary: leading 'h' in the "Address" field of IE6
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.42.
Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sergstesh(a)yahoo.com
I am building Wine in the framework of my AppsFromScratch - have been
doing this since probably 0.9.30.
I am using Wine to run IE6 under Linux - through 'ies4linux'.
I've noticed that both in Wine versions 0.9.41 and 0.9.42 when IE6 starts
there is 'h' letter in the "Address" field of IE6.
That is, in the field into which URLs are entered.
This makes IE6 practically unusable - it is still possible to follow link
on the page IE6 starts with (e.g. Microsoft), but it is impossible to enter
a URL.
Since I am building everything myself, and since I have versions
0.9.40
0.9.41
0.9.42
coexisting peacefully, I'm 100% sure the breakage occurs at 0.9.40 -> 0.9.41
- all the rest (Wine dependencies) is/are the same.
If you wish, I'll upload the tarball with my AppsFromScratch, so you'll be
able to try it yourself; maybe the problem will show itself in your sandboxes.
Just download ies4linux and choose all defaults while installing it.
I am not sure which Wine component to choose, I chose 'wine-binary'.
Output of my 'uname -a':
Linux amdam2 2.6.18.8-0.5-default #1 SMP Fri Jun 22 12:17:53 UTC 2007 i686
athlon i386 GNU/Linux
- this is SUSE 10.2.

Almost all pop-up windows flicker horribly, there is also flickering in other
parts of the interface, which makes it much harder to read and use the UI. There
are even situations where UI is not completely rendered etc.
Note that to trigger this behaviour you have to go through main menu,
headquaters (for example by choosing to play tutorial, scenario, or campaign),
and go to the "battle" screen. Here you can launch some windows using buttons at
bottom left (you'll probably get the start turn dialog automatically, without
pressing anything).

The program starts using the unsubmitted patches. It won't work 100% fine though
because it suffers from the famous bug 2398 (windowed opengl rendering) though
for this app the bug doesn't look that severe.

Try run the installer like:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="mscoree=""" wine installer.exe. (or disable mscoree.dll in
winecfg).
That way DirectX will probably install fine, and install the required
d3dx9_*.dll files.

Marteen Lankhorst has tested this bug on an ATI card, and the bug does not
occur. My own tests also strongly indicate that this is a driver bug.
The problem seems to be that the nvidia driver does not reset
GL_TEXTURE_BASE_LEVEL properly to 0 after it was set to something else before.
Eve uses the D3DSAMP_MAXMIPLEVEL sampler state to "animate" the map loading in
the browser. The game and WineD3D reset this state propely to 0, but the
texture remains broken in the driver.
I have written a small d3d test app to see how MAXMIPLEVEL works, and this
test application does not suffer from the driver bug, so it is rather complex.

Tested on Ubuntu Feisty Desktop.
(to mention: IE does work when started through the Shortcut on the Desktop
(Gnome).Console "wine iexplore.exe" does not work without setting the WINEPREFIX

Summary: Printing from any wine program via cups is unsuccessful
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.41.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: landin0(a)gmail.com
I have two printers that work perfectly with cups that were configured through
KDE printing. According to the wine documentation, all printers in cups would
be automatically recognized and available for use. This has happened with a few
programs, but for this report I'll use notepad.exe. It runs fine, but when I
try to print I get a dialog box that says:
"Before you can perform printer-related tasks such as page setup or printing a
document, you need to install a printer. Please install one and retry."
and the output on the console says:
"fixme:winspool:WINSPOOL_EnumPrinters We don't handle PRINTER_ENUM_CONNECTIONS"
When I run notepad with the winspool debugging turned on I get this output on
the console:
"trace:winspool:WINSPOOL_EnumPrinters Found 0 printers
trace:winspool:WINSPOOL_EnumPrinters Found 0 printers
trace:winspool:WINSPOOL_EnumPrinters Found 0 printers
trace:winspool:WINSPOOL_EnumPrinters ignoring PRINTER_ENUM_CONNECTIONS
fixme:winspool:WINSPOOL_EnumPrinters We don't handle PRINTER_ENUM_CONNECTIONS"
What would I go about doing to get printing working in wine?

Summary: IE6 bombs on CentOS 4.5
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.40.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ricdur2(a)gmail.com
I've installed version 0.9.40-1 RPMs to CentOS 4.5 using "yum install wine".
I tried running winecfg, but didn't see any fonts. I was able to resolve this by
installing an RPM I build using the msttcorefonts spec-file. I can see fonts
now. I get STDERR messages when I select the audio tab. (This doesn't concern me
at this point, but I am including it for completeness) (attached as winecfg.txt).
When I run ie6setup.exe, things seem to go okay. It's been some time since I've
installed IE6, but I seem to recall options to download everything for a network
install and the choice to download webfonts as well (was that IE5?).
The first time I tried running IEXPLORE.EXE, I get the "Wine Gecko Installer". I
proceed with the manual install. Once that completes, the frame for "Wine
Internet Explorer" comes up, then I get more STDERR messages (attached as
iexplore-1.txt).
After this, I get the window for "Microsoft Internet Explorer" (which I've
attached as a PNG). I'm not sure what to do at this point because when I click
on the default button I get the frame, STDERR, and window all over. If I uncheck
the box and select the default button, the program appears to exit. When I leave
the checkbox alone and tab to the left button, the program bombs with the more
STDERR messages (attached as iexplore-2.txt).
I've tried using "winetricks" to install Gecko before I run IE the first time
and to install "tahoma" and "corefonts" (I'm suprised only two fonts are
installed as corefonts....I recall CXOffice installing more).
Regards,
-richard duran

Setup is affected by bug 3997, so when it appears to hang, press enter to
dismiss the warning about anti-virus software. It also requires a manual install
of mfc42.dll to allow the program to run. Once the program is running, their is
very little text, so I have no idea what's going on. I can't get into a
configuration menu to see if it's in opengl mode or directx.
If it runs in opengl mode by default, then this bug is fixed. If not, then can
someone familiar with this program test it, or point me to a registry
entry/config file I can adjust to test this properly?

Titan quest appears to start up now without complaining, but I can't get it to
show anything that isn't a completely black screen. On the plus side, it
doesn't appear to crash at the (invisible) menu anymore.

Just as a note, the creator of Space Empires put out a call for new beta testers
- I guess a lot of the old ones got frustrated and quit! :P In any event, I've
emailed him asking if he'd be willing to collaborate with the folks here to get
the game running under Linux. If you guys want to contact him too, drop an email

Where do I have to set this ?
export LANG=en_EN
and
export LC_TYPE=en_EN
In a file ?
In winecfg?
Or on the command line ?
I searched winecfg for setting up the country/language but could not find it.

With Wine version 0.9.42, PAF's help window comes up, wine-gecko installs, and
the content is displayed very nicely with only the PAF-supplied Unicode font
installed, (with_OUT_ installing the MS core fonts). The bad news is I have
seen some crashes when closing the help window, apparently depending on how I
have navigated around in the help window's content. This one is not all the way
fixed, but it's getting close.
Thanks.

That's strange. I'm not sure why the repository I had setup didn't give the
latest version. I went to:
http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb
And added the fiesty repository and it gave me the latest version. And looking
at the Software Sources window both the repository I had and the one I added
look the same.
-shrugs-
Oh well. This isn't a problem in that version. Thanks.

I was able to get the new version of Citrix (Citrix Presentation Server Clients
Version 10.1) to install with the attached hack. Of course, this should not go
into mainline, but if you really need this installed, this should do the trick.
Proper support for the SELECT statement syntax would be the way forward.

Please put more/better details describing the severity of the bug in the
description. Especially adding a description for a "NORMAL" bug. One
more thing you should do is lock the "SEVERITY" selector once the bug
has been confirmed... which Austin said he has confirmed it.
Since the program crashes everytime I try to download the database from
DOTNET... according to your descriptors, this is a critical bug. Austin
has confirmed that the program crashes everytime when downloading the
database from DOTNET.
We're all volunteers in one way or another... and I do appreciate the
work and time you put into making Troopmaster functional in Wine. As a
scout leader, having Troopmaster to help us keep track of the boys
advancement from the time they are a Tiger Cub Scout to Eagle Scout
saves us time and the headache of all the paperwork we are required to
shuffle through to make sure the boys get what they earned, and we're
not payed to do any of this just like you're not payed to fix the bugs
in Wine. I'm just anxious to get the program working in Linux so I can
tell the rest of the scout leaders nationwide that it is working in
Linux now.
Thank you for your time and efforts,
Tim

Severity
This field describes the impact of a bug.
Blocker Blocks development and/or testing work
Critical crashes, loss of data, severe memory leak
Major major loss of function
Minor minor loss of function, or other problem where easy workaround is present
Trivial cosmetic problem like misspelled words or misaligned text
Enhancement Request for enhancement
Why there is no description of a "NORMAL" bug is beyond me. However, this
particular bug can be classified as "CRITICAL" or "MAJOR" according to the
descriptions of the type of bugs.
