With Damjan's patch in metacity/wine 0.9.41, I get:
err:systray:initialize_systray Could not create tray window
And no window is created. I didn't try it in Kwin or Beryl. In e-mail he stated
should be a window manager problem, not his patch/wine.
So it would seem Dmitry is right and this should be reported to the various
WM's. Who wants to handle that?

In terminal:

Run your patch.
If it doesn't work, be sure to try it with a clean .wine directory (re)move your

I'm getting an error as well. I'll launch RO either in the command line (wine
redorchestra.exe) or via Steam, it will show the RO splash screen, and then:
Window title is: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
-----BEGIN-----
Runtime error!
[virtual path of RedOrchestra.exe]
R60025
-pure virtual function call
-----END-----
This is in Ubuntu 7.04 (AMD64) with the latest updates (as of 24 July 2007) and
an Nvidia Geforce 7900GS video card, using the official driver. I'm using the
official non-Ubuntu Wine build (v0.9.41), but it happens with Ubuntu's wine as well.
The odd thing is that RO will launch and run just fine if I'm running as root,
so it seems to be a permissions problem. I see in my xorg.conf that there isn't
a section for DRM. The file was created by nvidia-settings, and I think that
the nvidia driver doesn't use DRM anyway.

Am I right that I have to follow point 2.2 of the instructions first (Cloning

directly to point 6.1 and type:
git bisect start
git bisect good wine-0.9.15
git bisect bad wine-0.9.16
Then I compile a new wine (do I have to remove my current wine first?), test it
again and just type "git bisect good" or "git bisect bad" with no concrete
version number then?

OPAS is written in Visual Fox Pro 8.
You can obtain the demo version of OPAS from the
vendor by asking. It installs ok, though unless
you install mfc42.dll, one of its OCX's can't register itself (or something).
So do 'winetricks vcrun6' before installing.
When you start the app, the dialog
"The resource file is not valid. Overwrite it with a new empty one?"
appears. That's probably a bug, but let's skip past it for the moment.
The problem I'm reporting at the moment is the crash that happens
regardless of how you answer the previous question.
A +seh,+relay log shows that it happens right after a
call to VariantInit, and the crash seems to go away if you
install native DCOM.

Remove ~/.wine directory, install your program into _default_ installation
directory. Use Wine created links to run it! DO NOT use ies4linux - it's not and
won't be supported here. DO NOT paste straces - they are useless. If you want to
be of any help, attach proper Wine debug output _ONLY_ after being asked to do so.

my cd was in F:\ in wine and in /media/cdrom0 in linux so I think this

That "patch" is a horrible hack, I don't know why Heroes breaks without it, and
the only reason it works is because it silences a message that should be sent to
the game. It definitely isn't getting into GIT.
Maybe someone who is more familiar with wine's audio can help us figure out

Doesn't return an error in wine 0.9.41. According to James, MsiApplyPatch has
been implemented.
PUNX69, can you try this in wine 0.9.41 or current git. It should work for you
there.

Summary: Civilization IV Expansion pack "Beyond the Sword"
Install Crash
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.41.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mp3elv(a)gmail.com
This is for the latest expansion pack for Civilization IV called "Beyond the Sword".
The main problem is that the install starts fine it requests to select a
language presents the license , and ask if gaming arcade (or something) is to be
installed too, (i select no), then after that it gets ready to install ,
presents a button that says install, and when u click on it the installshield
app crashes, under Windows XP at this part the installer looks for Civilization
IV game and looks around the hard disks to find previous components once thats
done it starts installing its mods and patches.
What i've tried is to change the reported windows version, tried so far Windows
2000 XP 2003 and Vista neither of them worked.
Any solution is more than accepted.
Im running Wine 0.9.41 under ubuntu 32 bits 7.04 Feisty Fawn installshield
engine version is 12.0 , original Civilization IV installshield version was 11.0
, Civilization IV installed and worked without problems.

These behaviors stand for the 0.9.29:
Even with the patch applied the CD music won't work (though the CD seems to be
spinning) leading to a CD error. Just 8-bit midi music works.
The "Credits" option in the main menu leads to a black screen though you can
return to the main menu just by left-clicking anywhere.
The "Quit" option freezes the program.
Any plans to fix this bug (still present in 0.9.41) in the next future in
order to avoid compiling a "parallel" patched Wine?

I would like to renew my offer of a $100 reward for resolving this bug by
September 1, 2007.
Electronics Workbench has been bought out by the National Instruments. There
are changes to licensing schemes, and all support for versions prior to the
current 10.x have been terminated. V.10.x does not install under wine.
Is there any hope that this bug will be resolved? I would like to retire a
Citrix server that runs just this one piece of software for a large Linux-only
installation.
By the way, the access violation error on exit is a bit of a red herring; they
only show up if you kill the window; if you exit through the File menu, all is well.

You can download the soft here:
http://www.biostatisticien.eu/dico.ace
You need unace to decompress it.
I tried the dictionnary Robert and Collins soft with wine version 0.9.31 and
0.9.41 but it does not work. This is on a new PC.
The soft installs correctly but when i do a "wine CREFWIN.EXE" there is an error
message. The error message (from the soft) is: Error ID ERR_?????=1024
The soft is unusable since this error message appears every time you click on a
word (in the list of words) to obtain its translation.
The soft is still working on my old PC with wine 0.9.31.
So this may be some kind of fonts problem, or encoding.
I tried to copy and paste the .wine directory from the working PC to the new PC
but this did not help.
Thank you to help me solving this problem.
Best regards,
Pierre

The semantics of WSASendTo on a blocking TCP socket provided by my patch are
correct, and not only do the tests prove it, but several apps break without it.
What happens for this app is that the loop that sends data is entered, the
timeout is infinite so poll() gets told to sleep until the socket is writable,
but poll() returns immediately indicating the socket is writable, so WS2_send()
gets called which calls sendmsg(), but it sends 0 bytes, so the loop continues
leading to 100% CPU usage.
There is a major problem here, not with wine but with the Linux poll() that lies
to us and says we can send while we actually can't. I'll need to look into it
further.

*36 and 39.
Anyway, I discovered the full game is content to run directly off CD, so I won't
be installing it. However, the bug is still present.
The problem begins roughly one second after the copyright screen before the main
menu appears, and persists until you quit the game. The cursor simply refuses to
move. You can attempt to move it, but it keeps "snapping" back to the same
position. (If you've seen the "cursor over crosshair" problem in FPS games, it's
pretty much the same effect, except you only see the game cursor, which is
behaving this way.) You CAN still click on whatever's under the cursor, but
since you can't move it, that's not exactly useful.

Looks like a WM specific behaviour, might be worth reporting to WM developers
and relay their response here.

min/max/close icons. Great.
I still get black screen ... :( I have package "915resolution" for my video card

Summary: Paradise Poker Client gives black desktop background -
bug
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.41.
Platform: PC
URL: http://paradisepoker.com/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: felipe.alvarez(a)gmail.com
Hardware: HP nx7400 notebook, Core2Duo, 1024MB, OpenSuse 10.2. I installed
binaries (RPM) from opensuse site via 'smart'.
Paradise Poker client installs fine, runs fine...except...My entire desktop goes
black except for the running client. All the icons disappear, the system tray
(MS reference?) disappears too. I usually have to close notebook 'lid' and
re-open to get my desktop back again (closing poker client doesn't return colour
of desktop). Is there a way to avoid this?
Another thing -- the windows are not bordered by typical blue KDE window
decoration, and they lack minimize, maximize, close buttons. They window cannot
be moved either. I tried moving with mouse plus Alt key, but nothing.
Any ideas?

That patch is already included in Wine. The only part that is not - is explicit
'return TRUE;' in is_window_managed(), because it breaks things.

Can you explain exactly what is happening? What exactly are you doing with mouse
(as in which screen, moving/clicking). What should happen and what does happen.
When it "locks" for how long does that happen?
And please verify if the bug present in demo. Also please try this with native
dinput and compare the results.

For me, it looks like this. If you copy native fonts to 'drive_c/windows/fonts'
everythings fine again. I'm not sure if its the same problem, or since which
version of wine it looks like this, because I had native fonts installed.

The app in comment #20 reproduces the problem I care about
very well. Cedega does no better on this than does Wine.
The app in comment #22 seems to be some other problem. For what it's
worth, Cedega handles it slightly better than Wine,
in that the last test's dialog is shown in front instead of behind.
But all those windows have captions...?

With Kwin, Metacity, and Beryl:
Kwin, showed minimize and close.
Metacity, showed close.
Beryl, showed minimize, close and maximize.
Minimize did not function in beryl or kwin, and maximize did not function in beryl.
If other window managers are needed I may be able to test them, but these 3 are
easier to test for me.

I had the program running fine on the previous version of wine 0.9.39.
Installed perfectly, and worked great. Other users have commented in the app db
that this program worked for them as well. Then, I updated through my ubuntu
updater, to 0.9.41 and suddenly the program would not run. I uninstalled wine,
deleted the .wine folder and started over. When trying to reinstall Final Draft,
I got some error messages telling me to disable fasttls on my video card driver
(I'm using a Lenovo t60p w/ fglrx aiglx.) After setting fasttls to "2", I
reinstalled. The installation appeared to go well. But when I tried to launch
the program, the exact same problem occurred. I saw the startup load screen and
got the Unhandled Page Fault Error. I'm running Ubuntu Feisty.
Austin installed FInal Draft on his PC and it seemed to work, suggesting that
this could be a compatability problem with ATI cards, or FGLRX. Austin was
going to retry on his ATI machine.

This could be a memory leak, if the theory with the other program is correct.
Can someone run a regression test on Planescape:Tournament to confirm that the
problem is caused by the ddraw rewrite? It is very likely, but I'd prefer to
be sure before I spend days hunting the bug.
