When a dropdown listbox has focus, the control does not respond to keyboard input.
For example, on the page given (see URL), typing 't' when the
"Board/Association" dropdown listbox has focus should take you to the first
entry that starts with 'T', e.g., "Thompson".

ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20070715072440971
linked to the trial version of Trial Director.
Installing it triggered the recently added crash handler in msi:
err:msi:ACTION_CallDllFunction Custom action
(L"C:\\windows\\temp\\msi11f7.tmp":L"MDAC28Win2KInstallerFix") caused a page
fault: c0000005
but that's ok, I bet we don't need that fix.
The installer also complained about a missing mfc40.dll,
so I installed that with winetricks mfc40.
There were still four missing modules:
err:module:import_dll Library sfcfiles.dll (which is needed by
L"Z:\\home\\dank\\syssetup.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library CRYPTUI.dll (which is needed by
L"Z:\\home\\dank\\syssetup.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library mswstr10.dll (which is needed by
L"C:\\windows\\system32\\MSJET40.DLL") not found
err:module:import_dll Library WINHTTP.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program
Files\\Common Files\\MSSoap\\Binaries\\WHSC30.dll") not found
but the installer ran to completion.
The app seemed to hang on startup. Pressing ^C got past that,
and into a license key dialog. (I may have had to install native
msxml3 to get there the first time.) Pasting in the license key
from the trial download email went ok, but the app then
seemed to barf trying to use SOAP to contact its license server.
It then offers to let you phone the company for an activation
key.
So that's two problems: having to press ^C, and not being able to
contact the license server.

Yes, the GDI renderer uses WineD3D because all the code is in
wined3d.dll. "GDI" is properly an improper name, "software" may be better. The
code in question is in surface_gdi.c, and it is the software blitter.
The software blitting code is in wined3d instead of ddraw for 2 reasons:
1) It keeps all the rendering code in wined3d
2) The software codepath can be used as a fallback for unsupported operations
in d3d8 and d3d9, for example stretchrect from texture to texture without
fbos.

Sorry about that, on second thought that was unclear.
I ran the regression test with the spring multiplayer client. But because of
those frequent popups, it was hard to test to see if that error popped up (it
only shows up after clicking okay to the no mods error. I'm saying someone
should check to see if reversing that patch fixes the error for Spring (and/or
rerun the regression if not to find the correct patch).
As for the other bug, it seems that this bug is a dupe of 7512, or probably
should depend on it. This bug was not present until the patch introduced in
7512, and fixing bug 7512 should also fix this bug.
Isn't there a way in git to reverse a patch? I tried looking through the wine
git wiki, but couldn't find a way to do so.

Having a bit of trouble bisecting it. I'm getting a lot of errors when
attempting to run it (about no mods found, then constant popups about access
violations).
I should be able to complete the test, but it may take longer. If anyone knows
of any settings I could tweak to prevent these errors, it would speed things up
greatly.

Proposed fix
This patch fixes ddraw(2D) without GL for me. I could run the ddraw sdk demos
in a vnc X server which does not support GL, not even software accelerated.
This patch can't go into wine this way, there are several propblems, and I am
surprised that they did not surface earlier. Certain OpenGL-dependent code
sequences slipped into the common code instead of the opengl-only code and
cause problems. The Initialization code will need some cleanup.

I built the package and dumped the output into a textfile, then hit ctrl-c after
a while. I'll attach the textfile.
Looking at the package output, it appears to run configure successfully once.
The trouble is that when it then runs make, make will call configure in a
repeating endless loop.
What's weird is that it seems to finish configure successfully before rerunning it:

People, if you see this error in a log:

that means a custom action of the installer failed, and that definitely doesn't
mean the bug is in msi, so please stop assuming that all installer bugs are in msi.

Summary: Configure loops endlessly on AMD 64

For about 7 versions now I've been building the Ubuntu package on AMD 64 by
linking to 32 bit libraries.
With the configure changes to the new 0.9.41 version, however, I am unable to
compile on AMD 64 - configure will just run over and over again, endlessly. I'm
not certain it's not a packaging issue (which would be my mistake), but I
haven't changed anything in the package since the last version other than
updating to 0.9.41 and adding libpng12-dev as a build dependency.
There were some configure changes to 0.9.41, so I suspect they may be the culprit.

I think this was my fault - I modified wined3d to load GL information at
startup instead of whenever something was asked for, to avoid deadlocks and
other nasty problems. However, I changed wined3d to refuse to load if this
fails. This is wrong, instead it should continue and just refuse to enable D3D
features. DirectDraw (2D) should still work.
Note that you will still need libGL to link against, but you do not need 3D
hardware to use the 2D features.
I will take a look at this and fix this if my suspicion is right.

I tried to uninstall my normal installation of wine, got the git and started the
regression test. Unfortunately after a bunch of hours I spent compiling, I get
to the head 0.9.41 version without problem. So I tried to install the wine
standard way (emerge wine in Gentoo) and it has been working also. So I guess
this was just a temporal problem with steam :(

That demo was in a DOS self-extractor (with another DOS self-extractor inside
it), which I've never gotten to work in Wine. I extracted it using DOSEMU, then
opened Setup.exe in wine. The installer gave off a series of errors: "DdeConnect
returned 67", "DdeConnect returned 0", "WinExec of SETUP32.EXE failed", but then
claimed that the installation was successful. Strange, to say the least. (I'll
also note that the demo installer looked completely different from the from-disc
installer.)
The game itself works.

I found out the reason for the broken mouse steering: Something between

mouse steering to off and lock it for changes. I think it is related to the copy

thought that it was a different problem.

------- Additional Comments From vanessaezekowitz(a)gmail.com 2007-15-07 04:24 -------
Hi all. I'm Abe's wife and the admin for our computers . I am an (inactive) open-source programmer
(old 8-bit computers only), and from that standpoint, I have to say this: I am thoroughly disappointed
at the way this issue was handled. Rather than ask for a regression test or just more details - even
a date when the bug first became apparent - you closed the bug, marked it as invalid, and mad it to
sound as though this never worked. This is NOT how the FOSS community is supposed to work;
developers always kept telling us users to file bug reports and keep on top of them, but when we do,
we're essentially told to kiss off.
So, rather than get all up in arms, I took the initiaive and did a sort of regression test myself. We
currently have two machines - Abe's box has v0.9.41 installed, mine ran 0.9.37 initially. There are
many differences between the two machines, but both have the same motherboard and use nVidia
cards. Neither card's driver supports GLX in 8bpp mode, and apparently, neither of them ever has.
So... using my machine as a testbed, starting with v0.9.37, with no windows files of any sort
installed, I created a fresh new Drive-C directory (/home/vanessa/Drive-C), configured wine to use it,
turned both D3D accelleration settings to "hardware" just to see if it breaks things, established an
800x600 virtual desktop, and told wine not to use my window manager to control the windows
display. Following this, I ran `wineprefixcreate` and then installed the game from the CD.
When the installer finished, I openend a second X session with the command: `X -depth 8 :2`,
exported my DISPLAY variable to point to that display, opened a terminal and started twm on that
display, switched my console over to that screen, and then ran the game from the terminal.
Here is a summary of my findings from that regression test, using my machine as the test bed, and
using the game as I first installed it under wine v0.9.37:
v0.9.37: PASS. I get the same GLX errors that Abe got, wine desktop opened, game intro video
started playing (in monochrome, but should be in color), then a normal-looking game splash screen
appeared inside when I hit a key. The game select menu and the various tables all worked fine.
v0.9.38: PASS. Exactly the same results as with v0.9.37.
v0.9.39: FAIL. I get a few GLX errors, different from before, The wine desktop appeared, then
closed. No part of the game's graphics ever appeared - not even the splash screen.
v0.9.40: FAIL. Appeared to be exactly the same results as with v0.9.39.
v0.9.40: FAIL (with both D3D hardware accel settings turned off). Same as the first v0.9.40 test.
v0.9.40: FAIL (with both D3D hardware settings turned off, and DirectDrawRenderer explicitly set to
"gdi"). Same as the first v0.9.40 test.
v0.9.41: FAIL (on Abe's box, did not test on mine). Appears to be the same issue as v0.9.39/40.
Attached to this report is an error log covering all four tests (divided into sections of course). Just to
be sure, I went back to v0.9.38. PASS - the game works fine.
Again I stress - the commercial version of Microsoft Pinball Arcade RUNS just fine WITHOUT GLX in
v0.9.38 or earlier, which means you guys broke something in v0.9.39. A bug is defined as a feature
that doesn't yet work, or that once implemented, quits working for no apparent reason.
This appears to have nothing at all to do with the 0.9.15->0.9.16 transition, as that took place nearly
a year ago (September 2006).

With the last 0.9.41, and the UNICODE corrections that might be committed,
Imgburn doesn't even launch anymore!
I get a "Internal Error: SubClassUnicodeControl.Control is not Unicode." error
from Imgburn, before it crashes.
It seems that wine Unicode code is still not fully Windows compliant.
On the console, nothing but read access violation and a CPU register dump.
I must say that it was tested on a fresh install (new .wine dir).
By the way, when running in Windows 98 profile, Imgburn launches well (but is
unusable because SPTI is not available on 98).

A new bug appeared on the last versions of wine (at least 0.9.40, 0.9.41 is
affected by another bug preventing imgburn to launch).
The app launches well, the bug appears on the moment you push the burn button,
in Verify and Write modes.
At this moment, the app prepares the buffer, and is meant to prepare the
hardware to do the task. The log window is filled normally, but the main
windows, that is supposed to get in "burning mode" display, resets itself and
abort the operation.
Usually, just after this reset, a popup appears, about an access violation. This
popup multiply itsef so the only thing left to do is to kill the process.
>From the log the wine complains about some CDROM commands.
Maybe a recent change in the SPTI handling broke imgburn under wine.

I'm explaining again:
Wine _requires_ openGL (aka GLX) for all DDraw (that asks for 3d) and D3D. If it
worked before for you, that means Wine was was using gdi rendering for your game
(which is horribly slow with DGA). You can try and force Wine into using gdi,
only if game doesn't ask for 3D: set DirectDrawRenderer to "gdi" (
http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys ).

same error
After removing .wine, there's a bunch of messages that come up and say something
about fonts (building db..?) - some fixmes come up then, too. I can attache the
log if you think it's relevant.
I'm assuming "native overrides" means some setting in wine that would've been
gone with remove .wine directory...
Any other logs I can collect/provide?

Austin English, the fact that it works for you might be related to your old
card. So please don't assume that someone has a bad configuration because it
works for you.
Looking at the appdb, you see comments about the fifa titles. We have some with
gold status for .29.
But after this there was no entry for newer wine versions.
So I guess there are people out there who wonders why earlier wine versions
worked and their current not.
Just for curiosity I tried with oss, and there was no change.

Side note, the toolbar is blacked out after starting, but that'll be a seperate

Still doesn't work in wine 0.9.41, even after installing mono11 and mono12 with
winetricks, then using Hans's instructions in comment 15. The installer still
doesn't think Microsoft .NET is installed. Does get a bit further though.

This bug should better renamed "Bonjour fails to install" A user reported same
problem in appdb, reproducable with

If you deselect to install Bonjour in the Safari-installer, the installation
goes just fine.

I'm assuming you're trying this without the tablet plugged in, right?
I just tried again in wine 0.9.41, clean .wine, ubuntu feisty 32bit, with
oC11b72rv1.exe. Launches fine, and my limited testing didn't crash it.
Can you please try with oC11b72rv1.exe, a clean .wine, with wine 0.9.41, no
native overrides, without the tablet and see what happens?

This seems to be fixed. The installer sent me to the right page , where i could
download, amongst others, Windows Media Player 9 (for win2k). Although the
installer of WMP claims it failed, the installation was successfull (this
annoyance is already covered by another bug). After that the installation of
Photostory went smoothly, and the application starts fine, although i had to use
native gdiplus.dll, otherwise it won't start. Ergo resolving fixed.

You'll need to use git. It will go between the two versions, find the 'middle'
patch and compile there. If it works, the patch that broke it is somewhere after
the 'middle', If it doesn't, it broke somewhere before. After running a few
compiles like that, eventually you'll fine the patch that broke this. Once you
do, post it here.

Whatever you say, but why would you mark this as invalid after changing its
title is beyonde my understanding, unless you are doing that out of spite.
Anyway, for my personal research, can you confirm that the top information you
posted corresponds to the time when the open/save dialog is open? There is
nothing special in my kernel.org kernel. I'm not even using the Con Kolivas
patchset I was using last time I tried this with Wine 0.9.39 (and got the same
result). And those patches replaced the scheduler completely...
By the way, I don't understand what you are referring to. I didn't mark anything
as confirmed, I just reopened the bug for the reasons I gave in my previous comment.
