Summary: lack of GLX causes wine to crash
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.41.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-opengl
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: aezekowitz(a)gmail.com
whenever I try to run a particular program under wine (in this case the program
is microsoft pinball arcade, and glx is not available on the display, as is the
case with nvidia graphics cards in 8bpp mode, wine will outright crash, throwing
several errors to the screen. Below is an example of the errors I get:
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":2.0".
err:wgl:X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo couldn't initialize OpenGL, expect problems
err:d3d:InitAdapters Failed to create a fake opengl context to find fbconfigs
formats
err:wine_d3d:WineDirect3DCreate Failed to initialize direct3d adapters
I am running 8bpp mode because the game in question absolutely will not work in
anything else but true 8bpp mode (that is to say, wine STILL can't translate
8bpp graphics to "normal" 24 bpp displays). I seem to recall from a recent test
that I did that wine version 0.9.38 did not crash.

Would you care to comment why you closed this bug without giving any additional
information?
I'm reopening it. Since you didn't deny seeing the 100% CPU usage, we have to
assume that Wine has a bug or is abusing the scheduler in a way that works in
some systems, but not in others. Since this works in low-end Windows computers,
I don't think you want to argue that this behavior is incorrect. My computer is
definitely not low-end and the game itself runs perfectly. The Linux version of
the AGS interpreter doesn't suffer this probles; unfortunately it cannot be used
to run games that rely on external DLLs or video codecs.
If I can supply for information to track the high CPU usage, let me know and
I'll be glad to help. I'm afraid that AGS source code is not available, but I
might be able to generate a simpler "game" that just contains the basic
load/save screen and not much else, if that would help.
By the way, your kernel is clearly not from pristine kernel.org sources and you
didn't specify what distribution it comes from or what patches it includes. Not
that it matters, unless Wine's policy is to rely on scheduler modifications that
upstream kernel doesn't want to merge.

I've found out something new. Whenever the dialog is open the CPU usage goes up
to 100%. The mouse and keyboard do work, but I have to wait many seconds
(sometimes over one minute) for any mouse movement, click or keyboard input to
take effect. That had made me believe that they weren't working at all.
I'm using Linux kernel 2.6.22 with the default CPU scheduler and
CONFIG_PREEMPT_VOLUNTARY=y; if you use a different scheduler or preempt settings
then maybe input has more priority and you don't see the same stalls I get. In
any way, it shouldn't be using 100% CPU, as the game outside the dialog is much
more responsive.
I also tried a virtual desktop of 640x480 and I couldn't see any difference.

Now that mouse input works correctly for AGS games, I have noticed that the
second item in bug #2811 is still valid. Those games that use the standard AGS
load/save dialog "break" when opening said dialog. The game won't respond to
Escape, keyboard input or anything, and the mouse cursor disappears. The only
workaround I found is to quit the game and don't use the savegames (not a real
solution for longer games, or games where you can die in-game).
However, I was able to use the load/save dialog in at least one AGS game, The
Infinity String. I don't know how the implementation details differ from one to
the other, though (the AGS version doesn't seem to make a difference).

I create sockets to a winsock2 DLL send/receive data and then close the socket.
On Windows there is no limit to the number of times I can do this. On linux, the
limit appears to be 970-980. All further attempts to connect simply time out.
The application is also hung.
I have not tested this issue outside of my target application (MetaTrader 4 by
metaquotes.net) and it could be related to their thread/memory management. The
DLL calls ws2_32 and winmm. I attempted to compile the DLL against WINE source
but didn't succeed with the compile on windows.
Issue originally experienced on 0.9.39, confirmed the same behavior on 0.9.41.

I found a downloadlink here: http://w13.easy-share.com/1194675.html
This version installs fine as well for me, as did the newer version for Austin, so
this works for us.

Maybe this is a regression bug back to wine 0.9.33 to wine 0.9.36? in the
earlier versions of wine a crash patch had to be applied. I haven't ran CNC3
recently so I am not able to check. Though this crash was supposedly fixed in
the git version some time ago.

I'm sorry, please disregard my last comment, I had to test it better before.
Indeed with UNICODE function there is no problems under Wine.
Look like Windows somehow recognizes the messed functions and performs the
conversion in case if ANSI wndproc is installed as UNICODE. Then the fix has
good chances to help.
THANKS!

Just out of curiousity:
i played a bit with the installer when i hit an unimplemented function
MsiSourceListSetInfoW.
It's a stub in msi.spec, but yet it seems to be kind of implemented in
msi/source.c . Is this intentional, or just a "misprint"?

User32 builtin controls have both an ANSI and a Unicode winproc. Your code
obtained the ANSI winproc (with GetWindowLongA) and plugged it as a Unicode
winproc (with SetWindowLongW). Thus the ANSI function obtained Unicode string in
wparam/lparam (but interpreted them as ANSI strings).

Summary: Adobe Indesign CS3 fails to install
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.adobe.com/go/tryindesign_nl
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: xerox_xerox2000(a)yahoo.co.uk
A user submitted garbage test results into appdb for this one.
The installer exits to the console. I'll attach console output hereafter.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Set version to winxp
2. Do winetricks wsh56js, otherwise it complains about missing jscript.
3. Use native msxml3, otherwise it will exit because of unimplemented stuff in
msxml3, but there are already other bugs filed for that (other Adobe installers)
Now the installer exits with:
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {f8383852-fcd3-11d1-a6b9-006097df5bd4} not registered
err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {f8383852-fcd3-11d1-a6b9-006097df5bd4}
could be created for context 0x1
A google showed this has something to do with browseui.dll, but a simple
"regsvr32 browseui.dll" didn't help. Now on windows there's following key that
isn't in wine's registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{F8383852-FCD3-11d1-A6B9-006097DF5BD4}-->
Process dialog
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{F8383852-FCD3-11d1-A6B9-006097DF5BD4}\InProcServer32
---> C:\Windows\System\BROWSEUI.DLL
(ThreadingModal Both)
It looks like it chokes in that because after manually adding the key , the
installer gets a bit further:
fixme:shell:MLLoadLibraryW (L"browselc.dll",0x1f30000,2) semi-stub!
(After putting a native browselc.dll into system32, it gets again a bit further,
pops up a progess bar, and then a messagebox about installation failure, looks
like it stops because of msi error:
err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action
L"ProcessPropertyFile.E35C3ECB_5FDA_49E1_AB1F_D472B7CB9017" returned 1603
)

Sure I'll give it a try on the next week.
May I ask you why the fix concerns the WndProc only?
I thought that if a UNICODE API function is called, regardles the control is
ANSI or UNICODE, it still should accept WIDE strings in the INPUT parameters
and return WIDE strings in the OUTPUT ones. What I see in 0.9.40 is that
UNICODE control treat INPUT as ANSI even if UNICODE function is called.
Well, even if control has ANSI WndProc, it should convert UNICODE->ANSI for
the parameter I passed to SetWindowTextW. Will the patch fix this problem?

A pretty good write-up is found here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/92877
(I'm posting it here because people seem to think it's a Wine issue, not a
Ubuntu issue.)
That writeup talks about two problems: (1) the sound loops when it shouldn't,
and (2) you can't get past the program's start-up screen. The sound-looping
problem no longer seems to occur, but I still can't get past the program's
startup screen.
(For clarification: When you first run the program, you're shown a dialog to
select screen resolution. That's not the startup screen I'm talking about. I'm
talking about the next screen, in which you're given buttons like "new game",
"exit", etc.)

The Darwine website, <http://darwine.opendarwin.org/> has been refusing all
connections for several days. If this website has "gone dark," should not
<http://wiki.winehq.org/MacOSX/Installing> be updated to reflect this ???
Conversely, if Darwine has not "gone dark," does anyone here have a contact
address for the Darwine project, and could they please find out why the Darwine
website has gone offline ???

No, it's no longer available for downlolad. I still have a copy, though.
I tried installing with
winetricks fakeie6 msxml4
This failed with the console lines
fixme:msxml:bsc_QueryInterface interface {6d5140c1-7436-11ce-8034-00aa006009fa}
not implemented
fixme:msxml:bsc_QueryInterface interface {79eac9e4-baf9-11ce-8c82-00aa004ba90b}
not implemented
(Those are IServiceProvider and, um, gopher: Asychronous Pluggable Protocol
Handler?)
Hmm, I guess you need to install both msxml3 and msxml4, and override msxml3...
I'll try to try that soon.
