I am 99% positive that these fonts are not truetype. I checked windows
installation and game resources - there are no additional ttf's anywhere.
However in game resources there are text files with extension .fnt that are
most likely describing locations for each symbol within some image file.
I tried copying fonts from Windows installation into wine, but this had no
effect on the font problem.

Hello,
when i managed to run this:
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=1993
with wine 0.9.40, i encountered this bug!
Wine cannot connect thru serial port because the set_queue_size stub is
unimplemented.
a trace indicates the correct setup for the port, but simply stops logging to
the line:
fixme:comm:SetupComm insize 8192 outsize 8192 unimplemented stub
The program recognize the device, but the connection windows locks with the
connection animation until i disconnect the phone.
I tried other programs (very old demo version of GThing and BitSplit) which
runs correctly and sets properly the com port without the fixme above.
Is there a way to solve the set_queue_size problem? I read the code of
serial.c, but i'm not a programmer, then i managed to run the native ntdll,
but no luck, the .so library overrides my choices :(
I can provide debug logs.
Thanks

after installing), but I ran into something quite weird here as well while
setting up the video config. I tried setting it to to the DirectX support, it
loaded the intro movie, then crashes, received an error in Wine afterwards about
a Direct X failure, but it disappeared before I could read any further I then
tried software mode. Same thing. OpenGL would load to the menu but with an
insanely messed up resolution (5xx x 3xx) and any attempts to change anything in
the options menu would crash the game. I've tried 5 installs so far and went
even as far to borrow a copy from a friend of mine to see if my copy was defunct
(its seen better days), but the same thing happened on there as well. I'm not a
prorgrammer so I couldn't tell you what exactly is happening at the code level,
only from a user level. Sorry if this all sounds confusing, I tried to explain
it as best I could.

Aha. The appdb comes to the rescue. It said:
"The following Error window:
Error occurred while reading the Filter section of:
C:\\Program Files\\Adobe\\FrameMaker6.0\\maker.ini
After clicking okay (or the enter key, since the previous error window is often
hidden behind the Frame Splash screen)..."
Sure enough, pressing Enter got past the apparant hang,
and the about box works fine. No IE6, no DCOM98 required,
everything is plain wine.

I just tried fm71 again tonight with vanilla
winehq from today's git. It
hangs in the splash screen, just
after it finishes doing something with fonts.
(I think it takes a certain amount of time
per font in /usr/share/fonts, fwiw.)
So I guess there's been a regression in
the last ten or so weeks?

Summary: Ragnarok battlemode and resolution

There was a previous bug in Wine where the Ragnarok game window would not be
fully drawn. It was fixed for several people, but some people are still getting
this bug.
Also, in battlemode, the keys are mapped to QWERTY, so no matter what keymap I
use (i.e. Dvorak), I have to hit the keys that the hotkey would correspond to if
it were a QWERTY keyboard.

Wine running Rome: Total War (NoCD1.5 version), under ubuntu - feistey (with
wine hq packages in list of sources), crashes and gives a backtrace.
Bug is highly reproducible on my system, but without symbols, the best I can
infer from interpreting the backtrace, is that its within 2 calls of
D3DCB_DefaultDestroySurface+0x78() in wined3d
Immediately before the call, I can see a fixme: report that D3D8CB_CreateSurface
failed, so I'm guessing the called didn't check the return value for an error,
and just called D3DCB_DefaultDestroySurface with whatever value it got back
(although that is a guess, having not seen the code)
(I'll now attempt to attach the backtrace)

1. Did some further testing and found out that this only happens with both
shaders active. If you disable one (no matter which) or both everything looks
like it should.
2. By the way: has anyone noticed that the train in the first cutscene video
moves way too slow? (so the police car drives through it) on native, it passes
by before.
I wonder if its just me.. can anyone confirm one of these?

The demo installs under wine 0.9.40. Still quite a few errors in it, and the
couple applications I tested after install didn't run. Seems to be related to

Invalid. You can't submit bugs against older versions of the code base.
There's obviously not a problem compiling wine now, so how could we possibly go
back into the past and fix old code to work with new libraries (assuming that is
the problem)?

I'm trying to run a regression test between these two older wine versions to
figure out where bug 4935 appeared at. Every time I attempt to compile, the
build fails while building tools/wrc. I'll attach the full log shortly. The
actual error is:
lex.yy.c:9174: error: expected ‘;’, ‘,’ or ‘)’ before numeric constant

Sorry for posting code, but it's quite short. I'm assuming that the problem may
be that gcc is having trouble compiling such old code against newer libraries,
but I'm not a programmer, so it's obviously just a guess.

Hi,
I found a solution to the crackling sound (even if it's a special problem with
my nforce onboard sound card):
After exporting WINEDEBUG=wave and starting tra.exe with nice -20 the trace
output told me to decrease the period size and instead of that increase the
period time (an alsa default nogo), and the sound lagging problem was solved!!
The hint DID work!
My .asoundrc looks like this, now:
pcm.nforce-hw {
type hw
card 0
}
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm "nforce"
}
pcm.nforce {
type dmix
ipc_key 1234
slave {
pcm "hw:0,0"
period_time 4
period_size 256
buffer_size 32768
rate 48000
}
}
ctl.nforce-hw {
type hw
card 0
}
To the wine team:
Could you please put this hint in the correct thread context, as this one's the
"dark texture" thread...

That trace would be more informative if it were from
a debugging build of wine. Can you build Wine from source?
Alternately, can this be reproduced with the demo version
of Notes?

Vivek, I'm closing this bug because the discussion has become
unproductive. Perhaps you should consider purchasing
commercial support for Wine, as our volunteer system
seems to have broken down in this case. Sorry!

WINE is currently version 0.9.40, but I do my CVS updates every couple days, so
chances are it isn't a standard 0.9.40 release. There was nothing telling in
the console output, although I don't have one right now.
A workaround was found. Updating your interface to explicitly use the new item
window fixes the crashing. This behavior is also exhibited on Windoze. Setting
the bug to invalid for this reason.

Summary: Telephone directory of Croatia (TIRH) 2006/07 crashes

Version: 0.9.40.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: juraj5(a)gmail.com
I've tried to run TIRH 2006/07 on my Ubuntu 7.04 and wine 0.9.40. The program's
splash screen shows up, and after a minute or so a message box "external
exception 80000101". Till then, the terminal is flooded with
"err:region:CombineRgn Invalid rgn=(nil)". Finally, app creates a backtrace text
file in its directory (if it's writable) - in attachment.
I'll be happy to provide further debug info, or to send the whole program (400
MB) if someone's interested in this bug. The program doesn't require to be
installed, and has an english interface so it shouldn't be much of a bugger.
Thanks in advance to everyone!

I've tried many workarounds, but nothing worked...
(incl.: deinstalling wine/deleting ~/.wine and restart the PC, then normal
installation...but that doesn't work; removing the blob.reg, steamtmp.exe and so
on...but even doesn't work; copying the (updated) steam directory from a friend
(who uses windows) and overwrite my directory with it (the copied Steam
directory wasn't configured...(no Steam acc data) my friend just installed it
"for me" ...and updated it, then I've copied it...but I get the error again...)
what's going on there? Please fix this bug...

The custom action directly calls RtlAllocateHeap with size 0x10. It uses this
buffer to convert the product/package/upgrade code guids into an encoded form.
The encoded value is 32 characters long (plus one for null terminator), which is
much longer than the 16 bytes allocated. The custom action corrupts the heap by
overrunning the allocated buffer. This is not a bug in MSI, though I don't know
how it could work in Windows (but it does).

With the patch on July 5, 2007, the item window was revamped. With this change,
the game crashes (with the normal client crash notification, rather than just a
total crash) whenever an item is inspected. It should be noted that this also
happens when the petition window is opened, which embeds an Internet Explorer
window into EQ; this is unrelated however, because the crash inspecting items
also occurs in Cedega currently, but the petition window crash does not.

If it's working, then feel free to resolve fixed. It's your bug report and I'm
not going to test it right now.

I tried the Swift 3d v4.5 demo available at: http://www.erain.com/downloads/trials/
It didn't show this error in wine 0.9.40, but I'm not sure if that means the bug
itself is fixed or if this version of the program never had the bug.

This patch also fixed the problem here, but only when using
"OffscreenRenderingMode"="fbo"

>From what I've gathered thus far, this could be an Ubuntu-Specific issue.
Most of the people I've talked to who are having this problem are also using
some form of ubuntu.
I've heard reports of the game running just fine on a distroless DIY linux build.
Hopefully this isn't a complicated issue, it just seems to be beyond my
knowledge at this point.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am running Wine 0.9.40 on Gentoo linux. Compiled from sources using
Gentoo's 'emerge wine'.
According to http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=8437 the same
issue also exists on 0.9.35 running under Ubuntu.
This particular bug makes game totally unplayable. Since drawing stuff on top
of everything does not look like rocket science at all, I would presume that
some simple, but useful feature is not working in Wine's d3d implementation.

Jesse, by saying virtual desktop do you mean wine's virtual desktop? So I
should:
1. set VD to 800x600
2. run Alien Shooter
3. exit game
4. turn off VD
5. run Alien Shooter again
3. exit game
and the resolution after that should be 800x600. Do I understand it correctly?

Ok, in 0.9.40 there's only one graphic glitch left. Laser/acid shooting
changes color of the whole screen.
