To make these functions work we will need to parse catalog files
which are also undocumented. Looking at hexdumps I recognized
fragments of digital certificates and indeed the catalog file
at hand embeds PKCS7 encoded certificates in DER format.
--- quote ---
PKCS7 certificate decoding is now in GIT, see

Summary: Half-Life 2 engine games have bad sound stutter

Status: NEW
Severity: normal

Component: test

Sound in any Half-Life 2 game stutters badly adding what sounds like static to
the sound in the process and making it very hard to listen to (as well as
sounding plain awful).
This doesn't seem to be bug 7693 as there is nothing (at all) printed in the
terminal about sound and it happens regardless if you are using ALSA or OSS.

in bug 3826 I read comments like
"This is a closed bug, do not add comments here."
"Please file a new bug report if you're still seeing this,
and be sure to include a link to the app in
question so we can reproduce it."
I followed that advice and created this bug report instead of moving to reopen
6551, which I wasn't sure was the same as what I saw. At any rate, there are
some mixed messages to be found ;)

When you use wine on a 64Bit-System, you must make sure, that your System
has a 32Bit "libcups.so"
You can verify this (Elf 32 vs Elf 64) with:
file libcups.so
(use the full path, follow the link)
When you have a 32Bit libcups.so, then please attach a log with:
WINEDEBUG="+windpool" wine yourapp.exe 2>&1 | tee log.txt

If you can not create a test case with a _single_ executable file that can be
run on _clean_ Wine, this is invalid. If you have to install some "dlls" - then
create a proper installer for this!
Just an indication of how much Wine install is being screwed up by this person
here is what he sent me in an e-mail:
-------------------------------------------------------
i have upgraded to wine 0.9.40, but it still gives the
same error. is it because of the dlls ? i also tried
using the windows regsvr32 command to register dlls,
but still to no effect. is there any way to make Wine
to point to my Windows registry, because it creates a
drive_c to represent C: of windows but then it is not
actual Windows C:
Warm Regards,
Vivek.

I'm trying wine 0.9.40 .
The game "Briscola chiamata" gives me the same button problem, that appears altered.
(The game installs correctly)
Once You have installed the game, you can see in the directory where the game
is, a directory called "Skins", where there are some .bmp images and .ini
related files.
I have seen the game take skins for buttons, right from that .bmp files.
In the .ini related files there are the "coordinates" the game uses to find
skins correctly in the big .bmp images.
I suppose wine API fails to take the right coordinates from the images.

This is happening here as well.
Our test system is CENTOS 4, and the output of cat /proc/version is
Linux version 2.6.9-55.0.2.ELsmp (mockbuild(a)builder4.centos.org) (gcc version
3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-8)) #1 SMP Tue Jun 26 14:30:58 EDT 2007
We installed wine 0.9.40 using YUM while logged in as root. Install went fine,
with no reported errors. However, all text is displayed as tiny underscores,
exactly as in the image above.
For testing purposes we are using the notepad.exe that comes with the Wine install.
We tried 'setenv LC_ALL en_US' before running 'wine notepad', but that seems to
have no impact.

I used a clean .wine, with no overrides. The application does not have an
installer, but rather is a standalone executable.
The patch fixed the issue though. Seems to be working fine other than that. And
with bug 7959 fixed it latest git, the program nearly runs perfectly.

Add dwmapi.dll stub.
However, I'm not sure why is it even picking it up? If you have native copy of
this dll, then Wine should be using that instead. Might be a different bug.

But that's ok, the game definitely installs its own copy
(otherwise it almost certainly wouldn't run).
So perhaps it's a bug in the installer under Wine that anet2.dll
isn't installed? I'll try to have a look.
I ran the installer with FileMON running under Windows, and I searched for
anet2.dll in Windows search after the installation, and it doesn't appear under
Windows it ever installs anet2.dll.

Summary: WinRAR refreshes incessantly, makes scrolling difficult
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.40.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P4
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: killmorejedi(a)hotmail.com
This is very similar to bug 6551, which was marked as fixed. There is a
slight difference here (described below), but 6551 is perhaps a useful
reference.
This bug doesn't show up initially, but does after changing directories once
(drilling down a directory or going up one). Having changed directories, the
window refreshes periodically (every second or so).
This looks bad, but is also an annoyance. With each refresh, the main view
scrolls so that the selected item is visible. This is not so helpful if you
are trying to scroll away from it.
The workaround is to select new items as you scroll so that there is always a
selected item in your view (otherwise the view is reset to the last selected
item, which could be very very far from the item you are actually interested
in).
I think what differs this from 6551 is that it occurs with no dll overrides,
which were necessary at the time 6551 was filed. It was likely closed since
the behavior with native DLLs is far worse than without. With the native
DLLs, refreshes would (and still do, just tested) simply scroll back to your
previous position unless you managed to scroll and quickly select another item
that would be off screen should the scroll be reverted.
Now, you can scroll as much as you like as long as the selected item remains
visible. If it is not visible when a refresh happens, the view is scrolled so
that it is, whereas before your view was reset with every refresh.
Perhaps it is easier for someone to try themselves than to understand this
description. Fire up WinRAR, enter a directory with lots of files and mess
around with scrolling. To see the previous (worse) behavior that prompted
6551, start WinRAR thus: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="comctl32,commctrl=n" wine

I am also pretty sure that winemp3.acm should do the job for Supermemo 2004

Summary: Supermemo 2004 mp3 codec issue
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.39.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-multimedia
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: cromo(a)klej.net
Since 2004 [1] version, Supermemo allows playing mp3 files, thus making it
possible to reduce the size of learning databases. However it needs needs mp3
codec installed for it to work. Under Windows 2000 running natively I had to
install the Fraunhofer 3.32 codec (available from any K-Lite pack) to make it
play mp3 files fine. Before I used to get MCI errors.
On the other hand, when trying to play mp3 file under win 0.9.39 with Supermemo
2004 I kept getting:
"fixme:mci:MCI_LoadMciDriver Couldn't load driver for type L"MPEGVIDEO"." fixme
error. I hoped that installing Fraunhofer coded would help here, too, but
unfortunately it didn't help at all and I am still getting the same error as
before the installation.
I looked into registry and could see the correct
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\drivers32\ keys, i.e.
msacm.l3acm and msacm.l3codec, both with "l3codecp.acm" value. Also the
l3codecp.acm file was in place in .wine\(...)\windows\system32 directory.
Hence I assume this is a bug to be fixed.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Download Demo Version [1]
2) Run, File -> New Collection or File -> Open Collection (choose any)
3) File -> Level -> Professional
4) Windows -> Toolbar -> Compose
5) Click at the speaker icon on the toolbar that has just shown up
6) click inside the window, stretch and release button.
7) Right click on the item created, Links -> External File, and choose any mp3
file
8) See the error message and fix it ;-)

Hi,
I've installed the wine 0.9.40 version and wanted to start Steam...but, what's
that? at 26 percent appears a message box, that tells me, that Steam is already
running and I can't start a second instance of Steam, I confirmed and wine/steam
were closed.
After this, I deleted the blob.reg and started the self updater (wine
steamTmp.exe SelfUpdate "Steam.exe" 14 ) but again, I get this error
So I deleted the steamGUI.dll and the steamTmp and the blob.reg and started the
game again...but again, I get this message box. After this, I deleted the wine
directory, deinstalled wine (with the "purge" option) reboot, install wine,
install steam and start Steam...but again I get this error...I've tried
everything that I know (copy the "normal" updated steam directory from a friend,
without the account data etc. but again I get the error)
So I think this is a serious bug...and I'm not the only one who get this
error...a friend and someone in a forum have this problem, too.
We all use Ubuntu feisty fawn, but our systems are different (ati graphicard,
nvidia graphiccard, different mainboards/cpus)so I think the problem is on wine...

After upgrading to wine 0.9.40, Wine crashes with "wine: Call from 0x7b844200 to
unimplemented function dwmapi.dll.DwmIsCompositionEnabled, aborting"
I ran a regression test, but I need to recheck it, because each time the result
came out as bad, which leads to me to think something else may be the cause. I
tried downgrading back down to wine 0.9.39 without changing any other packages,
and the program worked again.
All this was using a clean .wine directory each time. Kubuntu Feisty. I'll
attach the log shortly.

Hi
I've created some code this weekend, both solution are not very easy. ;-)
A big problem is, I don't understand the wine-site fully...
At the end, the helper process must wise wine with the broadcast, right?
[Broadcast] <--> [helper process] <--> [wine]
Broadcast is sent to all in the network, thats clear. Now, what I've not
realized was, that there are mutch mutch broadcasts.
The trick I want to use is, each boradcast has the information about the app.
Now, the helper process must know which broadcast wine is sending and when he
got this information, he filter the other broadcast for this app.
The problem now is, I need a gateway to wine. A function where speak with the
helper process. Here I need help, don't know mutch about the wine source.
I'll post the interface of the helper process later and how both shall speak
with each other.

"are u saying i have to un-tar the contents in my home directory ?"
No, I'm saying
1. execute the command
rm -rf ~/.wine
but not if you care about what's in your .wine directory.
You could also just do
cd ~
mv .wine .wine.old
that would be ok, and wouldn't delete your data.
The idea is to start with an empty .wine directory.
2. Then run your installer. (You probably need to run the
installer rather than just copy the .exe, but I can't
tell, you'd have to try it both ways to see.)
Then reproduce the problem as directed in my other steps...

However, when entering or creating a server- the game loads the map and all game

This seems to be an issue with TS 3.0 only, as 2.1 ran flawlessly.
Some people on the TS forums are experiencing this same issue.
Thanks goes out to anyone who can help with this.

Wine Developers:
Great job breaking Wine. Like all Linux idiots, you broke your own code. If you
were educated programmers, you would know what "testing" is. Linux is already a
broken mess, and getting worse with age:
1) yum install wine (gives me 0.9.40)
2) wine notepad (gives me notepad with no text/fonts):
fixme:richedit:RichEditWndProc_common WM_STYLECHANGING: stub
3) wine runs apps, but with no text/fonts (empty gui boxes only)
Note: Wine worked on my old install of Redhat EL4, but now it's broken on Redhat
EL5. The Nvidia driver was broken also, and Nvidia just fixed it. I blame Redhat
for breaking their own OS from EL4 to EL5. Have fun fixing your broken Wine 0.9.40.

I had located the problem, and I confirm it's a Wine bug.
I'll try to explain (with VB6 code):
APIs used:
Public Declare Function SetTimer _
Lib "user32" (ByVal hwnd As Long, _
ByVal nIDEvent As Long, _
ByVal uElapse As Long, _
ByVal lpTimerFunc As Long) As Long
Public Declare Function KillTimer _
Lib "user32" (ByVal hwnd As Long, _
ByVal nIDEvent As Long) As Long
Usually, as you know, you call it by giving him the adress of the callback
procedure.
In this case:
Sub TimerProc(ByVal HWnd As Long, ByVal uMsg As Long, _
ByVal nIDEvent As Long, ByVal dwTimer As Long)
' Code
End Sub
Then for example, you set the timer like this:
ID_Timer = SetTimer(0&, 0&, 1000, AddressOf TimerProc)
...................
Ok, so far all is good, but if the TimerProc is defined like a function instead
a Sub it will crash in Wine (but it will be fine in Windows).
Summary:
Working Declaration:
Public Sub TimerProc(ByVal HWnd As Long, ByVal uMsg As Long, _
ByVal nIDEvent As Long, ByVal dwTimer As Long)
' Code
End Sub
Declaration that makes program crash:
Public Function TimerProc(ByVal HWnd As Long, ByVal uMsg As Long, _
ByVal nIDEvent As Long, ByVal dwTimer As Long)
' Code
End Sub
I can write some VB6 code tests that express the problem if anybody wants.

Seems it's a more technical description on #3997 as you say :), but it's the
same problem.
I searched for "Bricscad" cause I did not find the exact cause of the problem :)

When WP12 is started the splash screen comes up and stay on top for a long time.
After some time clicking on it in the task bar removes the splash screen and
brings up a dialogue (not there in windows). select yes and then WP12 vanishes
altogether. Starting another session of WP12 brings up the first session. From
here WP12 works well without any apparent bugs other than the one that I also
described in the WP11 bug I filed, namely when pointed to a file to open the
session crashes. I must stress that other than these problems the application
seems to work exceptionally well. However it is time-consuming and elaborate
to test properly if every file has to be created anew. from what I have tested
I have not picked up any other bugs.

Wine needs to do a NULL pointer check as it was done before. I'm guessing app
calls it with NULL to get the required size back.

0.9.40 - especially Stefan Dösinger's patches like ddraw: Check for incorrect
rectangles to DDrawSurface::Blt (which was the direct cause of that particular
bug) helped as stated by Piotr. BG2 works fluently now except of glittering
mouse cursor.
Additionaly I noticed Icewind Dale works brilliantly now, which was not true
under 0.9.36 (some oddity with ingame dialog window).
Summarizing: Baldur's Gate 2: SoA + ToB + newest patch, and Icewind Dale + HoW
+ TotL do not crash with an assertion error when loading/starting a game under
WINE 0.9.40. BG1 still does crash, though.

this is what we exactly do. i work on a windows nt machine, i log on to a Linux
machine using X-Win32, and run wine in that X terminal, i am not directly
working on a Linux machine. could this also be causing the problem ? do i need
to run the setup of my app ? what i used to do was, compile n make the exe on my
windows machine, copy it to the home directory of the Linux machine and then run
that exe using wine in the X-Win 32 Console on my machine.
