I made the simplest table: just do from the menu "New", then "Play Table"
I could hear a sound , but nothing is displayed in the window. There are two
fixme's repeadetly printed:

I guess that's the problem here, i dunno how hard this would be to implement.

I should have had better look at the console-output, it appears it crashes
because of missing vbscript.dll, a simple 'sh winetricks.sh wsh56vb' gets rid of
the crash.
The game doesn't play though, but i'll file another bug for that. sorry for the
noise ;)

I don't see anything obviously wrong with IE but here's something that would
really help: get the wine source, compile it, go to dlls/ws2_32/tests, and type
"tsocks make test". That will run the full test suite for sockets through the
proxy. Oh and use the dante redirector, tsocks doesn't even support bind()
properly so that could be breaking your apps.
I'll run some of my own tests tonight.

Hello,
--- quote ---
I found no need for removing any files, this is what currently
works for me:
$ rm -rf ~/.wine
$ wine SafariSetup.exe (deselect Apple Software Update)
$ sh winetricks corefonts vcrun2005
$ cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Safari/
$ wine ./Safari.exe
--- quote ---
This is because 'winetricks vcrun2005' fixes the side-by-side assembly problem
created by installer (when run using winecfg=Windows 2000) silently.
The post install script step moves any msvc*80.dll away (rename) that were put
into system32 during safari installation.
If executed in wrong order (winetricks vcrun2005 first) the problem obviously
remains.
Though that can be avoided by installing using winecfg=WinXP.
That way assemblies are put into right place (winsxs storage) and winetricks can
be executed in any order.
Of course the winetricks step can be completely omitted if you manually add
assembly search path for safari M$ CRT libraries to %PATH% (registry) after
safari installation.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]
PATH=c:\windows\winsxs\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_x-ww_6b128700:<old

I don't think natural selection is related to the css problem. HL 1 depends on
executable stacks, something that 64 bit cpus don't allow. Try booting your

I agree that supplying *wrong* information is worse than supplying no
information. This said, when i enter a bug, and don't fill in component, then
i'm told to guess one if i'm unsure. Maybe it's usefull to have the
entry "unknown" in the list of components.

0.0.0.0 will work for multi-homed setups, but you really shouldn't be using it,
because then ping auroserver1 won't work.
The whole issue of "call gethostname() then pass that to gethostbyname() to get
your IP" is broken. It needs you to setup DNS properly, set your hostname
properly (in /etc/hostname or whatever your distro uses), and remove your
hostname from /etc/hosts forcing the DNS server to be called on gethostbyname()
to give your IP. Few people get all this right, hence the problem.
But even more than that, what IP is the DNS server supposed to return in the
case of a NAT? If it returns your internal IP, that works for this issue, but
people from outside trying to get your IP will get an unreachable IP. If it
returns your external IP (and possibly uses twice-NAT), it breaks this issue,
but people trying to get your IP from outside will get a reachable IP.

Here's how I fixed the problem: wine file, file, run, regedit, localmachine,
software, microsoft, windows nt, currentversion, fonts. i looked in "fonts" to
find a font that i DO have. I saw courier so i went back to currentversion,
fontsubstitutes and created a new string value which i named "Tahoma" Then for
the value data i put courier. It was quite simple. I was suprised that I
figured it out. I think this issue is resolved. Anyone who was unable to fix
it by substituting tahoma with times new roman may be suprised to find out that
this didn't work because you don't have either tahoma OR times new roman. this
is why my fix included the step of going into fonts to see which ones you
actually have. please e-mail me if anyone needs further assistance with MY fix.

Hello,
after safari sxs issues, I happen to have had a look at winetricks vcrun2005
again...
If you set Winecfg=WinXP while running msi installer you can prevent CRT, MFC
and ATL assemblies from being copied into system32.
It removes the need to cleanup/rename msvc*80.dll in additional step.
This is due to Win2K and WinXP loaders implementing different strategies for sxs
assemblies (-> different installer steps).

Hello,
oh well i forgot to ask - did you install safari using winecfg=Win2K?
That would explain the installer putting CRT sxs assemblies into system32
(Windows 2000 loader has different sxs handling).
Either remove them from system32 as told in my previous comment or use
winecfg=WinXP/Vista - that should take care of any distributed sxs assemblies to
be properly installed into winsxs storage.

Hello,
remove all three msvc*80.dll from system32.
VS 2005 versions of CRT, MFC and ATL side-by-side assemblies are expected to be
loaded exclusively from winsxs storage as specified in manifests (winetricks
vcrun2005).
The installer incorrectly puts them into system32, which is not permitted by design.
But even between Windows versions there exist some differences in handling of
sxs assemblies.
Win2K allows these sxs assemblies to load from private application directory (in
addition of winsxs storage).
WinXP/Vista loader enforces this to winsxs storage only (manifests).
To force the WinXP/Vista loader to treat sxs assemblies as "private"
(application local), the public key tokens need to be removed from manifests.
Then sxs assemblies can be placed into application subdirectories named as
manifest (unlike Win2K which expects them in application directory).

On windows i use a program called Amiga Explorer. This creates a shell
namespace that allows browsing files on an amiga, either over a serial port,
or a network.
On windows, you get an icon on the desktop, which you right click on, and
select 'properties'. This dialog allows you to configure the connection
(serial or tcpip etc).
Obviously, on wine i dont have explorer to use with this, so i tried winefile.
This shows the icon, but the properties dialog that is show is the standard
file properties.
So i tried a more advanced filemanager - Directory Opus 9,
This installs ok, and gives the namespace icon (and attempts to connect over
the serial port), but i cant get to the properties dialog to configure tcpip,
at the console, i get:
fixme:shell:ISvItemCm_fnInvokeCommand Unhandled string verb "properties"
Any suggestions?
Cheers

What a long bug (bug 7929)
Well, as it seems there's not current Wine-side solution to this, I will stay
for the moment with the workarounds.
btw, I saw this in that bug thread (7929):
/etc/hosts => "0.0.0.0 auroserver1"
It also works, but I presume that it also does not work in "multihomed"
configurations, but it's much more easy if I tell to the users of the program
that change theirs /etc/hosts to that, than telling them to do "ifconfig"... etc.
At least there's some warning from your side, I'll stay with that "solution".
Thanks for your time Vitaliy Margolen.

Reported fixed.
The problem you referring to in comment 32 is a well known difference in the way
Linux differers from windows. And what you doing is invalid and won't work on
multi-homed system. But that's a different bug 7929

Ok, it finally works :).
Sorry that I though you mean my external IP, no *my* local IP in that sense.
The IP I have to connect to my router is 192.168.1.5 (router is 192.168.1.1)
I will attach a Winsock debug log in case you want to see it working. Thanks for
your patience and for all Damjan Jovanovic!.
I wonder it's a by-desing Linux/K/Ubuntu behavior to not 'update' etc/hosts with
the settings of the users.

I'm trying to run Steam (Counter-Strike) through an SSH tunnel via a local
SOCKSv5 proxy without luck.
The SOCKS is up and running, and my normal Linux applications seem to be working
fine with it, but I haven't got any Wine program to work with it (tried iexplore
and Steam).
With tsocks, iexplore simply doesn't show anything at all (http://www.google.dk).
Steam waits for about 20 seconds, then says it's unable to connect.
Using proxychains produces the same result, but Steam displays it a little faster.
I tried using FreeCap.exe (this used to work in Windows), but it's unable to
launch Steam.exe:

I switched to windows and download an Winsock Tracer
The first "connect" from the program returns "WSAEWOULDBLOCK". The Tracer's help
says this about it:
" this indicates an error code of WSAEWOULDBLOCK, then your application can either:
1. Use select() to determine the completion of the connection request by
checking if the socket is writeable, or
2. If your application is using the message-based WSAAsyncSelect() to indicate
interest in connection events, then your application will receive an FD_CONNECT
message when the connect operation is complete."
--------
I can figure out the way to post a full XMR in windows winsock trace if you want it.
I'll switch back to linux to test your workaround.

Seems it does not solve the problem :(
Chaging auroserver1 to my external IP address (which is dynamical, and that
represent another issue on doing it as a workaround) gets again an Bind error.
trace:winsock:WS_gethostbyname "auroserver1" ret 0x212bc0

-----------------
If this binding to localhost fails also in windows on external connect, then
there should be another problem in Wine, as I'm using the same exe in Windows.
I'm going to trace all the relevant variables when running the program in Windows.

I did some testing and it looks like on Windows binding to 127.0.0.1 and trying
to connect out also fails (although from a connection timeout, not EINVAL). So I
suspect the error is that gethostbyname("") is returning 127.0.0.1 (well it
looks like you're using Ubuntu like me so it's actually 127.0.1.1) and binding
to that causes trouble with the subsequent connect.
Kai Blin wrote a patch for this somewhere on bug 7929, but instead of that, a
much easier fix is to edit /etc/hosts and change the IP address for auroserver1
to your external IP instead of 127.0.1.1.

Actually just tried it again with the registry key and patch, and even though
there is a page fault that pops up in terminal during service installation it
keeps going and gives me a "Congratulations! itunes and quicktime succesfully

should go is enough to close the bug.

Ok, so two things necessary to fix this bug:
1. The registry key System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment
in HKEY_CURRENT_USER must exist, currently does not in default wine install
(still need to see more on whether this is just a matter of adding it to
wine.inf or needs change in ITERATE_WriteEnvironmentString).
2. The following patch which fixes a small bug in ITERATE_WriteEnvironmentString:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2007-June/040334.html
If I create the key and apply the patch, the installer proceeds to install
Quicktime and iTunes. It seems like there is a page fault later on when
installing the automation service, not sure if this is going to be another bug...
Anyhow, it is time for bed.

Took a very quick look...
I had to download iTunes to get Quicktime for Windows. Looks like the
problem is in ITERATE_EnvironmentStrings (msi), WINEDEBUG=+msi,+reg helps:
trace:msi:ITERATE_WriteEnvironmentString (L"CLASSPATH_0", L"!-*CLASSPATH", 80000000)
First of all it is trying to open System\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Session
Manager\\Environment in HKEY_CURRENT_USER, but we only have one for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on wine.
If you add this registry key, it goes a little farther, and tries to query the
value for CLASSPATH_0, which doesn't exist. This causes "InstallFinalize" to
fail. All for now.

The section sign key (§)(at least I think that's what it's called, the one to
the left of '1') isn't working in WoW.
When entering the key bindings menu under the main menu and trying to assign an
action to the section sign key nothing happens, as if I no keys were pressed.
I did not encounter any other failing keys, including the keys on the numeric
keypad.
The §-key was working for me in Linux, Ubuntu 7.04 and I'm currently using it
together with the win-key to call down the Yakuake terminal (I'm running KDE)
but for some reason its unresponsive in wow. I got the 0.9.38 version of wine.
PS
I'm very new to the whole linux world and I'm not sure I followed all the
guidelines when filling in this form. I just want to make this bug known as I
tend to use the §-key quite a lot when playing wow ;)

Given the fact its a one command test to test it, why ask?
wine cmd.exe /C "dir *."
If in a directory containing files with and without extensions, cmd.exe should
only show those with no extension, whereas wine shows all of them
And no, its not fixed...

attached)...?
The current state of this is I have it 75% coded, and will be submited in my
next patch set, once I have ironed out some of the features/bugs. This will
add support for && and multiline statements (bracketted), as well as support
if / else handling. Once thats in git, please retest - i'll update once its
submitted

After ''playing'' some more I've noticed the dark textures return to normal
after the water source is unloaded (?). Meaning: If you look the "correct" way
(away from the water source) and/or keep enough distance, the textures return to
normal.
Also: When saving in a "dark area" and reloading, the textures are normal until
the water is reloaded (backtracking, and then turning around) or you enter the
water.
When entering the water textures turn dark immediately, although objects
underwater do not seem to be affected.

Ok, I'm a bit ashamed to see today, that running this application from inside
it's program directory (c:\program files\AstroWorldSuite\AstroWorld 2004)
produces the same "Initialization Error!" message on a real Windows. Only
starting it from outside this directory works.
So Wine is perfectly compatible here.
I'll close this bug now as FIXED.

Same problem here. Using different OffscreenRenderingMode's doesn't solve the
problem.
In my case, it is reproducible at the start of the second level, always at the
same location. If you enable all effects you will also see water reflection
applied to the whole screen (see bug 7775).
Strangely enough the "Croft Mansion" does not display the dark texture problem,
but does have the shader problem when near water.

Patch to create hal.dll placeholder with version resource to pass M$ hal checks
Hello,
yes this check is an annoying "feature" of some M$ updaters/QFEs.
You could try my patch I use for this kind of install check (BITS installer
requires this too).
It creates a placeholder hal.dll in system32 with appropriate version resource
to successfully pass this install step/check.
Don't forget to run "wineprefixcreate" after "make install" to update system32.
Regards

As for the regression test, I had to mark 0.9.33 as good, and 0.9.35 as bad.
Bisecting in the middle of 34 and 35 won't work for some reason. Moving one
release past that seems to work okay (not sure what would happen if in the new
bisect, the 'middle' patch falls in the same place...I'd presume it'd fail).

I didn't read the whole comments, but the hack Phil Costin posted also fixes
cs source. You have to watch out for the spelling of the CSD font, I think it
is "Csd" or "CSd". We are using that hack in Crossover 6.1, and it seems to
work fine(no more reports of crashing cs source, running in winver win2k). If
in doubt about the spelling add an ERR which prints the font name.
There are other fonts which are problematic too. Basically HL2 / CSS needs the
whole set of original windows fonts. Simmilarly looking replacements do not
work because they may be bigger. Crossover 6.1 installs the whole ms core
fonts set into the bottle. CSS and HL2 will still crash if you start it
directly without installing it either via crossover, or running it from a
bottle with the corefonts package installed.

Why - from memory the full output looked very much like all the other outputs
(look at initial output)? I did not save a copy.
Anyway, you can generate your own crash output by having 'use emoticons' ticked
and sending yourself a tell with ':)' or some other emoticon in it.
Can someone please verify this and then change the status of this bug to
resolved and the severity to critical (I am new to this site and don't know how).

Here's the problem:
Socket 00dc binds to 127.0.0.1:
trace:winsock:WS_bind socket 00dc, ptr 0x34f6f0 { family 2, address 127.0.1.1,
port 0 }, length 16
Then the same socket tries to connect to an IP that's unreachable from the lo
interface:
trace:winsock:WS_connect socket 00dc, ptr 0x34f480 { family 2, address
208.109.235.57, port 80 }, length 16
On Linux that fails with EINVAL. But does it work on Windows? I'll run some
tests and see exactly what happens.

Summary: Quicktime 7.1.6 installer complains of errors
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Keywords: download, Installer
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: thestig(a)google.com
The quicktime installer complains it encountered errors during the install, even
though the program seems to be installed ok and it even starts up. The iTunes
installer tries to install quicktime first, so this is preventing iTunes from
being installed.

Summary: TCP_NODELAY causes socket failure
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.38.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-net
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ghazel(a)gmail.com
Settings a standard socket option, TCP_NODELAY:
setsockopt(sock, IPPROTO_IP, TCP_NODELAY, (char*)&nodelay, sizeof(nodelay));
causes sockets to fail (timeouts, etc). The same code works fine on Windows, of
course.
