Btw, just wanted to comment that my previous comment about the installer not
being JScript dependent as of the following patch:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-cvs/2007-April/031982.html
is not quite true, but the stuff that is JScript dependent is now fairly minor
like all the web ordering stuff in the Tools menu.

Btw I just checked and not only do our registry settings for shell/open for
http, https, and htmlfile match those of WinXP, but also Win98, so I am assuming
there should be no more problems with any apps b/c of these settings unless some
app requires iexplore.exe to be there instead of winebrowser.exe

by checking registry keys and once in the LaunchConditions

winetricks should perhaps fake .net 2.0 now that mono 1.2.4

ImgBurn is a great piece of software.
It is based on the burning part of DVD Decrypter.
It burns CD/DVD, read ISOs, build ISOs, have an intelligent layer break algorithm.
The download is very small, and it is not as messy as K3b, with all the
dependances needed to get it work.
By the way, I tried it with wine 0.9.31 and 0.9.38 (cleaned .wine directory),
with the same bug as mentionned.
But I find more : to get it work for burning, you need to use SPTI interface,
thus Windows NT/2K/XP profile is required. But it has a side effect : these OSes
work with unicode in the text controls.
So I tried to change the profile to Windows 98, and guess what? The destination
field seems to work as espected. But in this case the side effect is that you
have to use ASPI, and ASPI didn't worked well in wine the last time I tried it.
So the bug seems to be a lack of support of unicode by wine

I realised that I was reading that file from bottom to top while taking a

lines above
if ( i == 0 ) {
peer[i].addr.sin_port = htons ( SERVERPORT );
} else {
peer[i].addr.sin_port = htons ( 0 );
}
so the author of this testcase wrote
ok ( peer[i].addr.sin_port != htons ( 0 ), "UDP: bind() did not
associate port\n" );
thinking that
a/ using sin_port returned by getsockname to check if we get the port bind is a
good idea
b/ it can happen with no SOCKET_ERROR

WGL_EXT_swap_control hack
Could you try to see if this patch helps? Your drivers don't support the GLX
extension required for WGL_EXT_swap_control. Cod expects it to exist. This hack
fakes its presence. I need to verify if it is justified to do it, but for now
you can use it.

Thanks for your long explination! On my Pentium M (I think :-) 2.0 GHz
I get something between 1 and 3 fps. I never got the fps out of wine 0.9.15,
but there is runs smooth. So I would guess I got around 30-35 fps as you got.
I actually played EU2 like 5 years ago on a Pentium II 300 MHz with wine and it
ran ok then.
Yes, I have the registery value set to opengl.

Oop! So sorry for the duplicate. But you gotta admit, you didn't make bug #8572
easy to find, what with its nonobvious title, how it's already marked fixed, and
how it's not filed against 0.9.38. I'll just wait for 0.9.39 then!
P.S.: Of course I realize that IEs4Linux is a different project, supported by
different developers. I merely mentioned it to indicate how I originally came
across the problem. IEs4Linux is the only reason I have Wine installed, so it
may be difficult for any given problem I encounter for me to know which is
responsible: IEs4Linux or Wine. However, in this case, I felt that the output of
"make test" confirmed that the problem was general to Wine.

Somekind of a possible fix for underrun ?
I can get the underun problems (and noise) using the demo from comment #66
(http://www.toymaker.info/Games/html/directsound.html)
The patch is against wine-0.9.38.
With this "hack", I can get it to play correctly (no noise/no real underrun -
with or without hardware acc.) this dsound demo.
I also removed the fixme message since after this fix, this will trigger more
often :-)
I did not do lots of tests since I don't have games... so I really dunno if
this can help anyone...

but still appdb has incorrect information some people incorrectly think
"Installable?" == "Yes" if the game installs on non-Wine installer but that is
not the case.
so not regression at lest what I know
Tested Wine versions from 0.9.11 to 0.9.38
and all expect one Wine version had same problem and the one that did not have
the problem failed on regression that seem to be fixed by now.

No, the game didn't feel slow here. You can get rid f the error messages by
running them with WINEDEBUG=-all . Its not the fastest though. WINEDEBUG=fps
gives me 30 fps ingame, mostly independent of the scene rendered. This is on
an intel core 2 duo in powersafe mode(1ghz).
The old ddraw code gets 35 fps, I think it is faster because of the
asynchronous frontbuffer update hack Alexandre didn't accept back after the
merge. This could speed things up on my dual core cpu since the offscreen
frontbuffer -> window HDC blit is one of the main performance hogs. Otherwise
the 2D rendering code stayed the same pretty much.
The major change during the rewrite was the d3d code. The ddraw(2D) rendering
code from old ddraw(dlls/ddraw/surface_dib.c) was moved to
dlls/wined3d/surface_gdi.c, but the old direct3d7 implementation from
dlls/ddraw/device_opengl.c was dropped, and ddraw uses the d3d8/9
implementation now(which supports all d3d versions now, based on the features
of the opengl implementation found).
WineD3D also has a (rudimentary) hardware accelerated DirectDraw
implementation based on opengl. You can enable it by setting the following
registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/Direct3D/DirectDrawRenderer = "opengl"
The code that gets activated by that is mainly used to make Direct3D games
happy which perform DDraw Blits on the d3d target. The opengl'ed ddraw
renderer does not cope well with the nastiness of many ddraw apps, like render
target locking or GetDC on render targets though. And the drivers don't do
that either. So in most cases the hardware ddraw is slower, or does not work
at all. I get 30 fps with it, so EU2 works surprisingly well that way.

font.c:1180: enumed font "Segoe Script", charset 0, weight 700, italic 0
...yet it still behaves the same buggy way (IE, using BALTIC_CHARSET).
(If noisy, this at least serves as notekeeping.)

Wee! It works! I manually applied your patch without any problems.
Now EU2 works. And Victoria. And the corrupted graphics in Hearts
of Iron II is gone :-))) Great!
On the downside, all three games are horrible slow now. (In wine 0.9.15 EU2
and Victoria runs fine.) Did you experience the slowness?
Maybe it has to do that my terminal gets full of "Struct of size 0" prints.

Proposed fix for the alignment bug
This patch makes wined3d use quadword alignment for ddraw / d3d7 surfaces, and
forces the alignment on the DIB section for gdi surfaces.
I really hope that patch applies, its the topmost patch in my wine tree which
has quite some modifications in wined3d.

I think I've found the bug(at least EU2 starts again with a hack). EU2 makes
some assumptions about the surface alignment, which is nowhere documented. In
DirectDraw surface lines in memory have a size that is a multiple of 8(QWORD
alignment), but wined3d uses multiples of 4, like Windows' d3d9
(DWORD-Alignment).
EU2 creates a 16 bit 129x1190 surface. With QWORD alignment this surface has a
pitch(line length) of 2384 bytes, which results in a total size of 307.536
bytes. With DWORD alignment the pitch is 2380 bytes, total size 307020 bytes.
EU2 writes the full QWORD-Aligned size, thus crashes after 307200 bytes(300
kb, at the end of the last page).
I'll make a patch for that

With the modification in heap.c I get exactly the same crash with the old
directdraw code. So The bug is older than the rewrite, but due to the nasty
nature of heap corruptions it did not show up before.
A winmm helper thread seems to die, a quick guess is that the application
destroys an object, but the thread does not shut down properly.

Ok, I tested what windows does with wrong struct sizes, and implemented that
behavior in ddraw, but no change :-/
can you edit dlls/ntdll/heap.c, line 140: from
if (TRACE_ON(heap)) memset( ptr, ARENA_FREE_FILLER, size );
to
memset( ptr, ARENA_FREE_FILLER, size );
and run the game again without any debug options? When you get a crash, attach
the debug log here.

Another error output after crash
Here's the output I got after BabasChess crashed again after removing the
~/.wine directory and reinstalling using synaptic package manager.
What is interesting is that the same kind of crash occurs but the numbers are
different. This one occurred when I was selecting a theme after going through
the introductory stuff again. This suggests to me that the problem could be
with the themes.
I'd really like to know what the problem is because I have some (limited)
experience with programming and may be able to help.

You mentioned in your other bug that you are using an ati card. The binary
driver has a known bug which overwrites some cpu registers which it shouldn't
change. As a workaround you can add the following line to the driver's section
in xorg.conf:
Option "UseFastTLS" "2"
Can you try that? If you are using the (reverse engineered) open source
driver, try the binary fglrx driver.

Hard to tell whats going wrong here. It could be related to multithreading.
The ATI drivers tend to forgive our incorrect behavior, but patches like the
one that introduced the regression are part of a proper fix, and thus change
the behavior wrt multithreading.
Can you make a +ddraw,+d3d7,+tid trace and take a look at the thread IDs(seen
in each trace line)? If there are ddraw/d3d7 calls from different threads then
the game uses multithreaded d3d.

OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.2
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-net
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: winehq-2007(a)ryandesign.com
I'm using Internet Explorer 6 through the IEs4Linux project on my Intel Mac. It
can connect and show web pages with wine 0.9.37, but with 0.9.38 it cannot.
In bug #5474 I saw the suggestion to run "make test" in the dlls/ws2_32/tests
directory. I'll attach the output of this for both wine versions. For wine
0.9.37, where networking works, the output took only a few seconds to produce.
For wine 0.9.38, where networking does not work, the test script hung and I
aborted it after it hadn't produced any output for 15 minutes.
Comment 3 in bug #5474 also reports no network connectivity after upgrading to
wine 0.9.38.
My configuration:
MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo)
Mac OS X 10.4.9 (please see bug #2967)
gcc 4.0.1 (part of Xcode 2.4.1)
wine installed with MacPorts (I am the maintainer for this port)
I am guessing the component under which to file this bug, since your bug tracker
makes me do so.

Property sheets that should be modal aren't. So if a parent window creates a
property sheet window, users can still interact with the parent window on Wine,
whereas they cannot on Windows.
To illustrate this problem, I wrote a small test program. The test program
immediately creates a property sheet window. On Wine, you can close the program
by closing the parent window (with the white background) but you cannot on Windows.

The patch sucks; it just randomly copies code in similar functions and modified
to fit. It probably is incorrect (since I don't understand the code I'm
copying).
But it's enough to make Firefox run, at least. (Chinese is still completely
screwed up; I haven't looked at that why, and probably won't have a clue.)

Funny graphical bug that causes the death animation, for characters that emit
smoke when they die (eg mythic dawn), to display a flat greenish background and
a shimmering green blob in place of of the death animation. It goes away once
the death animation is done, or if I look away so that it is not on the screen.
This happens for any magical effect (my main character has a reflect damage
shield, and it happens any time I get attacked). This doesn't happen in third
person mode though.
I think it might also be the same thing as the solid background (which is the
same colour as the skysphere) when the inventory window is visible (the
background is meant to be dimmed and desaturated). (See the applications
screenshots section.)
I expect that they use the same kind of shader.

I think there is a memory link with wine in this game because even after setting
it to win98 it still crashes but after a half-hour of playing or so. With Winxp
though it crashes as soon as I get in game. It would be awesome if these memory
leaks were fixed because I think this game would run almost flawlessly.

I have not been able to do regression testing but I just now updated to 0.9.38
(as I'm stressed for time) and this bug still exists.
Is there anyone with more time and with WoW and tvtime (don't even need a tuner
card I believe) that could reproduce this?

Summary: steam: unable to connect since wine update
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.38.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

I recently updated from wine version 0.9.33 to the latest, 0.9.38 which I
downloaded this site. In the previous version I was able to connect to steam and
get to my games list. Since I updated, steam will hang on connecting and
eventually timeout, saying it cannot connect.
a 'sudo make uninstall' of the latest version and reinstalling 0.9.33 seemed to
make it work again.
I am running ubuntu "fiesty fawn" and 'uname -r' gives me '2.6.20-16-generic'
need any more info let me know :)
Thanks in advance

Rather than deleting ~/.wine, rename it and test the bug again.
$ mv ~/.wine ~/.wine-good
$ winecfg
$ wine setup.exe
After testing and reporting terminal output/errors/etc.
$ rm -rf ~/.wine
$ mv ~/.wine-good ~/.wine
And your old wine is back, with games and configs and what not.

No, it's not. This bug is about a hang in the game, probably due to
misconfigured directX stuff on your computer.
Apart from that there's the copy-protection bug, and there's a crash here due to
unimplemeted quartz stuff, but these things should, i someone feels the urge, be
filed under new bug reports.

Summary: ALSA sound lag in Unreal Tournament
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: juraj5(a)gmail.com
I have tested this on an PC with an nforce 2 mobo, with an integrated sound card
(Soundstorm AC97, using intel8x0 driver), on Ubuntu 7.10 and SUSE 10.1, with
both distros' default sound configuration (that means no messing with .asoundrc's)
Anyway, Unreal Tournament 99 sounds excellent when OSS is selected in winecfg.
However, when I select ALSA, the sound lags about for a second. (BTW, the
combination OSS + aoss didn't work, produces silence).
I'd be happy to dump some logs, I need some further instructions.
Thanks!

Start up of runaway. Any preformance related issues at the end is probably
a result of that I had to switch to a terminal to kill wine.
