Are you sure? I just retested this and it still fails in the same way.
Do you have the retail version? An easy way to check this is to click on "New
Game", you will start in a lonely star system instead of viewing the intro.

I have had this problem for quite some time now, but never filed a bug on it before.
Problem is, that after having logged in and selected a character, the loading
window hangs at around 75-80% of the bar, every time. This is very annoying, and
I can't locate any error...
I can't remember how far back I've had this problem, but it's persistent and
still exists.
I'm running a 32-bit system with Gentoo Linux, no extreme CFLAGS, basically just
-O2.
I've tested 0.9.37 and now 0.9.38. Can't remember when it started happening.

Comparison of EnumFontFamilies()'s behavior with and without last patch

I did that, and I'm attaching a set of logs and diffs showing the effects of my
patch.
I noticed I forgot to mention where I got the idea for the patch, so here it
goes: upon inspecting the tests output both on Windows and on Wine I saw that,
discarding repetitions, EnumFontFamilies() enumerated the charsets for <empty>
and DEFAULT_CHARSET in ascending order on the former, but in descending order
in the latter. (Moreover, I saw that all the fonts and charsets were there, so
my best guess was that Notes was relying on some other ordering - and bingo!)
I think enum-test_compare-with-and-without-patch_snip.diff and
enum-test_compare-with-and-without-patch_snip-cut.diff should make things
clearer.
So, what do you think?

This problem can be reproduced with the following steps :
1) create an object (e.g. a point)
2) apply the "Name this object" (10th icon, 1st item) command on this object
3) enter a name
4) do anything else (click somewhere else, chose another command)
However, the problem does not appear when naming the object by typing its name
just after creating it, or when no name is entered at step 3 above.

The bugs only been open for 11 hours! Don't you think you're closing it a
little prematurely, Ben? It might work for you, but I haven't even had time to
do the testing Vitaliy suggested. I highly doubt theres been time for anyone
else to notice and confirm they've seen this bug as well.
The testing that I have done so far is to completely delete my .wine and steam
directories, recompile/install the latest git and reinstall steam via the msi
installer. It shows the same graphical glitches.
@ Vitalay - Is there an easy command to backlevel my git to a specific version?
I've been clumsily working through bisects to do this in the past,

The reason for regression testing failing and making Steam to work is that it
does something that fails only once. And after it's passed Steam would work
properly.
So actually it wasn't fixed on Steam's end (what I thought initially).
And confirming that is it fixed in current GIT.

I can confirm the "bug" with emule 0.9.38 patched for udp packets issue
(see this: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5774)
and without it.
Hardware used:
PIII 500 @ 256 MB ram
With a *CLEAR* install with no file shared and no file hashing, the cpu load for
emule.exe + wineserver is about 40%, and increase when files are downloaded.
I tried it with about 40-50 files, it's stable, but the cpuload reaches 80%.
Perhaps there is to work on efficency of wine with emule... i suppose.

Hello,
yes, it's armadillo 4.x - one of the more advanced software protections to date :-)
Actually this is a meta bug.
There exist quite a number of games and applications which suffer from this.
All protected by 4.x version of armadillo.
I made some progress investigating this but it's a pain because you can't debug
the target in wine with conventional means due to Copymem II and nanomites
feature (parent process acts as debugger/on demand child process page
encryption/decryption).
Unfortunately I can't offer a general workaround for all games/apps yet...
Basically one of armadillos features is to redirect and emulate win32 API calls.
Usually the import table gets destroyed on purpose and all IAT calls are
rerouted to dynamic memory.
>From there thunk calls and/or API code splicing takes place - to make it harder
to trace/dump/reconstruct IAT.
The problematic "feature" is the API code splicing.
It requires hooking of system calls from certain dlls. The list is specific to
each application.
Due to the nature wine dynamic libraries are currently represented in memory
(portable executable format), armadillo is unable to hook wine builtin
libraries, resulting in different data returned from API (hook vs. original).
For some apps, reverting to native libraries (which have correct PE structures,
suited to hooking feature) solves this problem.
I worked around to some degree by modifying wine's PE loader to emulate original
first thunks table (original unbound IAT) and the IAT data directory.
This is an issue that possibly needs some wine PE loader changes and/or the way
wine PE header data is created (wine tools).

Hack for this problem
The attached patch addresses this problem by checking which sampler is beeing
read by the shader and avoiding setting the per sampler settings on the texture
if the sampler isn't used. It is a hack however, and it breaks the flashlight
in hl2.

The water problem is indeed the same as the problem in the pixel shader test,
but its not really related to pixel shaders(and yes, its bump mapping)
3Dmark2001 assigns the perturbation texture to sampler 0, 1 and 2, but the
shader only reads from sampler 0. From sampler 1 and 2 it just uses the
texture coordinates for the tex3m3 instructions. Sampler 0 has the u and v
coordinates set to REPEAT, while sampler 1 and 2 have them set up to CLAMP
coords outside 0.0 and 1.0 to 0.0 and 1.0 resp.
Now the problem is that in d3d the texture address mode is a per sampler
setting, while in opengl it is a per texture setting. So sampler 0 is applied
correctly, texture address mode set to repeat. When sampler 1 is set up
afterwards, the address mode gets changed and set to clamp.

This bug isn't for Tungsta, it's for Morrowind which the fact that Tungsta works
and this doesn't proves they aren't the same bug.
Second: You don't remove bug links from the AppDB unless they are wrong (so if
this really was a bug effecting tungsta you'd leave it there).

I'm not sure this crash is actually caused by SymInitializeW, as I've recently
done +relay+all tests. By excluding certain functions from the debug and running
the EverQuest2.exe directly (rather than going through the patcher) to keep the
size of the debug log down, I see that the crash actually occurs much later in
the code than the call to SymInitializeW, during some Direct3D code. POSSIBLY to
do with Vertex Buffers, although there are some VirtualAlloc calls further up
that look suspicious to me. Attachment to follow

The winealsa driver seems to only open the "default" sequencer device for MIDI
support, even though winecfg correctly detects all input and output devices.
This is a particular problem for me as I have a soundcard from the Audigy family
and the default sequencer device is the external midi (I'm guessing on gameport,
but don't have a MIDI device to test it with right now). I'd like to be able to
tell Wine to use the EMU10K1 Wavetable (soundfont) sequencer, but it does not
seem possible.

This still occurs in 0.9.38. As described earlier, the keyboard is utterly
powerless, but it is possible to log in through SSH and reboot the system.
Killing the CNC3 processes through SSH does not free the screen.
To work around this bug, it is possible to edit the configuration file manually
with a text editor.
The file to edit is
/home/foo/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/foo/Application\ Data/Command\ \&\
Conquer\ 3\ Tiberium\ Wars/Profiles/bar/Options.ini
where foo is your *nix login, and bar is the name of the profile you created in
CNC3.
I've found that there isn't a necessary connection between setting the
resolution equal to your X server's default resolution after all - some
resolution changes cause the crash, others don't. Increasing the resolution is
more likely to crash than decreasing it.

Good call - increasing video memory from 64mb to 256mb eliminates the problem -
I'm now able to set my resolution arbitrarily without crashing.
There's still the matter of the third number i.e. 1200X1600(52). If I set the
third number higher than 60, the game field gets discolored (red or green)
depending on how far I'm zoomed in. Other than that, I don't know what it does.
I suppose that resolves the bug (the color thing is a different issue, and
pretty insignificant imo) - what resolution should I use?

I had same problem with Fish Fillets 2, unfortunately setting native dlls
(shdocvw, shlwapi, urlmon and mshtml in all different combinations) doesn't work.
The only work around is install ies4linux (don't shoot me for this!), and run
the game by WINEPREFIX=~/.ies4linux/ie6 wine app_name.exe.
It's really a pity that we have to use workarounds like this, as there are many
demo's/games that work perfectly well, except they fail to display the first
html-page , with which you have to start the game. Hope we could see some
progress here ... (e.g. all demo's from Gamehouse fail this way)

loadTexCoords loads up to GL_LIMITS(texture_stages) coords, which can be higher

Initially .Net 2.0 isn't detected. If the keys //Software/Microsoft/.NET
Framework Setup/NDP/v2.0.50727/[Install,SP] = 1 (both DWORDS) are set, the
application install gets a little farther and then states "incorrect command
line parameters".

This bug really needs to be fixed. Battlefield 1942 would run almost perfectly
with this bug being fixed. Right now it is very playable except for the fact
that the sound is just static. Also this bug should be elevated to major because
it affects quite a bit of games.

After all other workarounds for Dreamfall demo are applied, the game still does
not run. Gecko must be installed and then a HTML page pops up (see screenshot on
app page). It says "Page is loading please wait" but nothing happens. (btw -
"wine iexplore http://www.google.com" works ok on my system).

I think adding new dialog resources is the best way. One could also try to first
implement dialog resizing and then use this function to resize the old style
dialog but that could lead to different sizes than in Windows especially that
the new dialog has e.g. the 'New Folder' control not present in the old one.
I've also changed the title to what rasz suggested.

Maybe it's a good idea to add a wiki-page about known copy-protection schemes +
known work arounds. Dozens of demo's do not start because of copy protection,
found yet another one for which i'll file a bug hereafter. Unfortunately I dunno
anything about how to add wiki-page, any volunteer?
(I tested Fish Fillets 2 with work around from above comment and it works great)

Any time a bug as originally reported is fixed, then you should resolve fixed

things cleaner and easier to understand.

This broke when ntoskrnl was introduced. Before it would try to load ntoskrnl,
fail, and happily continue.
As a workaround you can try setting the windows version to win98 in winecfg,
that works for 3dmark03, 05 and 06, so it'll likely work for 2001 as well.
Doesn't change the fact that HalGetBusData (and most likely some other stuff...)
should probably be implemented at some point.

Victoria behaves a little different on wine 0.9.38. It is still a
Unhandled page fault on read access, but on a different address.
(Maybe because the memory is allocated at another address?) Anyway,
it sends wine spinning with:

Hi Stefan, thanks for having a look! With wine 0.9.38 it crashes as
usual at the same address. Which version of the game did you try?
The last version is 1.09, can be found here:
http://www.paradoxplaza.com/
index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=39&Itemid=120
They kept updating the game for 4-5 years.
Do you want me to test with the latest from git?

Hello,
you won't find that stuff in system32 because builtin ntoskrnl
(/usr/local/lib/wine/ntoskrnl.exe.so) has no placeholder.
Just disable kernel service facilities using wineconfig -> libraries.
Add/set "ntoskrnl.exe" and "winedevice.exe" to "disable".
Regards

Checked my wine-0.9.38 installation but did not find the ntoskrnl.exe (AFAIK it
should be in windows/system32/ or /windows/system32/drivers)
Then checked my build dir and found /wine-0.9.38/dlls/ntoskrnl.exe containing:
libntoskrnl.exe.def
Makefile
Makefile.in
ntoskrnl.exe.so
ntoskrnl.exe.spec
ntoskrnl.o
The compiled lib is there but it seems that it didn't install somehow.
I used ./tools/wineinstall for compilation and installation, after a due 'make

I debugged this, and quickly noticed that adding a
glDisableClientState(GL_TEXTURE_COORD_ARRAY); in the else path inside the
texture loading for loop works around the crash. But this is not a correct
fix.
Further checking shows that the the texture coord array is disabled for all
stages at the beginning of loadTexCoords(as it is supposed to be). However,
later on it is enabled in the already mentioned else path(where no texture
coords exist). The only way this could happen is that the D3DTSS_TEXCOORDINDEX
state interferes, but I don't understand yet how that can happen.

Hi,
When starting VLC 0.8.6b and trying to render video, the blue and red color
planes seem to be switched. This happened with both VLC's GDI video output and
DirectX video output (probably DirectDraw as there's a separate listing for
Direct3D video output). With VLC's OpenGL video output the colors were fine though.
I was just about to report a new bugentry about this, when I noticed this one...
So it appears this bug has been arround at least for a year.
Has anyone got any tips on what might be wrong?

I took a look at the other bug report about HoD, it was closed as
resolved/invalid (the bug was in the linux kernel, not in wine code) and it was
due (i think) to a copy protection check; i cannot see if the hang was at the
same dll.
But i cannot manage debuggers or machine code, who do i blame? :-(
Is there some log file i can provide to help you?

Maybe you may want to try the soft, you can download a copy of the program here:
http://www.xmr.bolhost.com/arc/+Pruebas/XMR.exe
It's safe, it's for send SMS in El Salvador (country of Central America).
btw, I have to say that I was wrong, there's a difference between using and not
using DCOM98. Without DCOM98 the program just does not work.
Thanks for the help and for making Wine better!

Edit control auto scroll endless loop
Hello,
some random pick...
I downloaded the latest version (ARCHPR version 3.01 build 7), wine 0.9.38.
The application is protected by ASprotect 2.x but that isn't the showstopper
here.
After unwrapping the protected executable it seems to boil down to EDIT control
issue.
Attached is relevant WINEDEBUG=+seh,+tid,+relay,+win,+msg,+edit snippet
The application locks up while "auto scrolling" - after inserting text into
multiline edit control.
The target window/control is a plain EDIT control.
Offending application code basically goes like this:
--- snip pseudo code ---
LRESULT result = 0;
do
{
result = SendMessage(hwnd, EM_SCROLL, SB_PAGEDOWN, 0);
}
while (HIWORD(result) == TRUE);
--- snip pseudo code ---
--- snip dlls/user32/edit.c ---
static LRESULT EDIT_EM_Scroll(EDITSTATE *es, INT action)
{
...
return MAKELONG((INT16)dy, (BOOL16)TRUE);
}
--- snip dlls/user32/edit.c ---
Windows returns 0x0 on first call.
Wine returns 0x0001fffe which is: (low) dy = 0xFFFE (-2) and (high) TRUE = 0x1
Though the application "auto scroll" code snippet is somewhat buggy too...
A cleaner solution would be like this (notice dy taken into account):
--- snip pseudo code ---
LRESULT result = 0;
do
{
result = SendMessage(hwnd, EM_SCROLL, SB_PAGEDOWN, 0);
}
while ((HIWORD(result) == TRUE) && (LOWORD(result) > 0));
--- snip pseudo code ---
But the question remains why negative dy is returned (control resizing issue?
font?).
I hope I provided enough hints for someone to investigate this user32 issue
further.
If debugging is really needed, I can provide unwrapped executable upon request
to make life easier :-)
Regards

Switching to w98 fixed it for me, too. I honestly didn't think that old trick would work. This makes me
think the problem is hiding somewhere in ntdll. Perhaps a memory leak. It may be worth watching RAM
levels on an ssh session from a laptop
Similar issues to this have occurred before and people have said "That doesn't mean it's in NTDLL!!!"
So it might not be. But it can't be completely ruled out yet. Well discovered, Hugo!

Summary: WebLoad crashes with builtin riched20
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.38.
Platform: Other
URL: http://webload.org
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-richedit
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine/msg/261776ca7…
asked for help getting webload to run.
You need MFC40 and MFC42 for this app, or you get errors during install, so:
wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks vcrun6 mfc40
With wine-0.9.38, WebLoad then installs nearly perfectly
(there are two errors still,
err:module:import_dll Library ACEWrap.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program
Files\\Common Files\\RadView_Shared\\WLExporterCOM_v60.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library WLExporter.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program
Files\\Common Files\\RadView_Shared\\WLExporterCOM_v60.dll") not found
which are a bit of a mystery, as the DLLs in question are there and should
be accessible).
The app even starts ok. But it crashes when you accept the default action:
fixme:richedit:CreateTextServices Support aggregation
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000020 at address 0x45d3c5
(thread 0009), starting debugger...
I was able to get it past this by using native riched20
from
http://media.codeweavers.com/pub/crossover/office/support/richedit30.exe
Somewhere in there it started crashing early without native msxml3, so I added
that, too.
so my full recipe to get the app and reproduce the riched20 problem is:
cd ~
rm -rf .wine
wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks vcrun6 mfc40 msxml3
wget
http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/webload/WebLOAD_Open_Source_…
wine WebLOAD_Open_Source_Full_Installer_8.0.5.018.en.exe
cd ".wine/drive_c/Program Files/WebLOAD"
wine bin/WebLoad.exe (and click OK when the dialog box comes up)
To get past the text services crash, do
cd ".wine/drive_c/Program Files/WebLOAD"
wget
http://media.codeweavers.com/pub/crossover/office/support/richedit30.exe
cabextract richedit30.exe
winecfg (and add override for richedit20)
wine bin/WebLoad.exe

fast without any messages or any errors to console.

For me there is no difference - whether "Full shadows" or "None shadows" value
option "Real-time shadows" is set. I cannot see any shadows, but not white
polygons too.
Is the bug already fixed?

Same here. Ubuntu Feisty, wine 0.9.37 and since today 0.9.38 and Dreamweaver 8
crashes after creating a new Site. Can't be started again.
Workaround:
* Launch the Registry Editor and navigate to this folder:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Common\8\Sites
* Rename the "Sites" key to "SitesOLD", so that Dreamweaver will automatically
generate a new Sites key the next time you launch it.

Summary: Spelling error in dlls/wined3d/surface.c says conatiner

Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.38.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P5
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hpestilence(a)gmail.com
I came across a spelling error in my debug log so I looked for it in the
source code and found it in dlls/wined3d/surface.c line 460 (in 0.9.38 version
of the source code). I assigned this bug to wine-directx-d3d, not sure if that
is correct.
Line from the debug:
0010:trace:d3d_surface:IWineD3DSurfaceImpl_PreLoad Passing to conatiner
Line from source code is:
TRACE("Passing to conatiner\n");
Ooh, just found out I could link to it:

WINEDEBUG=+all,+tid,+seh wine uo.exe
An updated debug log with new wine version (0.9.38). I used options
+all,+tid,+seh.
Found this on the wine-patches mailing list:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2007-February/036376.html
Which says 'FIXME("Context creation for a new thread not implemented yet\n")'
Maybe that is the problem. Although I didn't find that FIXME in the source
code.
It does crash after the ActivateContext line has a different value for thread.
Just in case this is needed my system is:
Processor= Athlon-XP 2600+
Motherboard= A7N8X
Memory= 768MB pc2700

and my fps dropped really low but never crashed. Now I just need to fix the fps
problem.
