Then I would suggest the documentation gets a update from:
To add another drive, for example your CD-ROM, just create a new link pointing
to it: $ ln -s /mnt/cdrom ~/.wine/dosdevices/d:
To something more correct :)

The /dev/loop/* was root:disk(with no access to other) so I did not have access
to the raw loopdevice. I chowned it to <username>:disk, and what do you know,
it started working. I must however make udev choose another group for the
loopdevices, not comfortable with having the user with full write access to the
raw disks, funky stuff can happen then.

Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux

With the most recent wine from git (last wine I tried that didn't show this
problem was a git shortly after .36) and when having enabled shaders
(UseGLSL=enabled), when trying to play a skirmish (and probably when trying to
play any type of game) it hangs with a black screen.
In the output of wine there are some new messages that haven't appeared before.
These two are the first:
fixme:d3d_shader:print_glsl_info_log Error received from GLSL shader #536870913:
"WARNING: 0:1: extension 'GL_ARB_draw_buffers' is not supported\n"
fixme:d3d_shader:print_glsl_info_log Error received from GLSL shader
#2147483649: " Link successful. The GLSL vertex shader will run in hardware. The
GLSL fragment shader wil
l run in hardware."
There are several more including errors, which can be read in attachment.

Yes it's an iso image mounted with -o loop on /mnt/cdrom and ~/dosdevices/d:
pointing there.
No change in behaivior, I did however only recompile the changed dll, hope that
doesn't have anything to say.
It did however fix the issue with not recognizing CD1 on the end of the
install. So the install does complete now(with the d:: pointing to the iso).

James - strange, still crashing with me with the latest git.
Phil - going with your freetype idea I tried the last few versions of freetype
with a full recompile of Wine each time (2.1.10-r2, 2.1.10-r3, 2.3.3 and
2.3.4-r2 - versions numbers as per Gentoo Portage).
The reason I went back to that version is that that's the one I had installed
when I first installed this build of my system - when this bug didn't exist.
The problem was still present with all of these versions.

I see that the patch didn't get in. This could be because you didn't include
your real name in the e-mail to wine-patches. Another reason could be that even
after your patch the code doesn't work well when the user text is longer than
max_len - the string isn't NULL-terminated (copying one character less in memcpy
should work - Alloc initializes the buffer to zero. Or you may use lstrcpynW -
unlike strcpy it NULL-terminates the string).
It would be also nice if you would look into GetDispInfoA - MultiByteToWideChar
has the same problem of looking beyond the end of the buffer.

utorrent is using the BIF_NEWSTYLEDIALOG flags. Such dialogs are bigger,
resizeable and have a "New Folder" button. AFAIK the size of the old style
dialog has to remain pixel-for-pixel compatible with Windows as some programs
adds manually an edit box and a "New Folder" button to an old style dialog at
fixed positions.

I have a feeling this bug has been miss-labeled at least in the case of PGIII,
and perhaps others as well. Most of the effected applications are fairly old (3+
years) so I find it somewhat hard to believe that they made much use of
multi-threading. Further, in my own experience the "black screen" appears in 2D
menus, not 3D in-game. While it's possible they are using D3D for these menus, I
find it somewhat difficult to believe.
Its possible I just don't understand what this bug report really means. I do
know that the Mac OS recently received an upgrade to multi-threaded OGL, is this
in any way related? Is the name of the bug perhaps misleading?

eMule + wineserver hogging the system when minimized
When eMule is minimized, the CPU usage soars. Pay attention at PID=28383,
that's a low priority app that only uses idle time.
The system is an AMD64 single core 2.0 GHz, eMule and wineserver are using ~84%
vs 31%.

Summary: HebRech crashes after ddraw fixme warning "VGA_ioport_in

HebRech (http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=5202) installs fine, but
when starting, it shows some error messages on the console, and then crashes:
$ wine HebRech.exe
Kein NT-System (2000/xp) [translated: No NT system (2000/xp)]
fixme:ddraw:VGA_ioport_in Unsupported VGA register: 0x03c4
wineserver crashed, please report this.
During this, a window does open up, but doesn't get filled with any content.
The program is in German, but since it doesn't even start, the problem should
be possible to debug even for a non-german-speaker. The version I tested is a
trial version corresponding to version 10.14, freely available for download at
http://download.hebrech.info/Heb_win_1014.exe (linked from the german website
http://www.hebrech.de)
I am available to deliver any information you need, and will test with newer
versions, when they become available (I am using your Ubuntu repository).
Note: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2408 describes the same warning
in ddraw. Maybe both bugs will be fixed by the same solution.

Thanks Vitaliy Margolen, at least the program now does not "crash" as before.
Native DCOM or DCOM98 did not make visual difference, but certainly the major
problem was fixed by cleaning the "contamined" wine installation. Anyway, the
app still does not work. I will add some trace instructions to my app to see
which line produces an app controlled error and report you back.
Thanks for your help, any advises on how to produce useful Wine log information
about the problem for you is welcome.

Is there any chance this bug will get fixed? It's the only thing that keeps
Finale from being fully functional in Wine for my needs.
Also I don't quite understand the last post here. Are you suggesting this is a
bug (or typo) in Finale? It definitely works normally on a real WinXP. But I
can't get it working on Wine no matter what Windows version I set in winecfg.

"I thought send() is supposed to take care of buffering, delays, etc."
UNIX semantics of send/write: if there is any free space in the buffer, copy as
much of the given data as will fit into the buffer, and return immediately. If
there is no free space in the buffer, wait until any space becomes available,
write as many bytes as can instantly be written, and return immediately.
Windows semantics of blocking send: send the entire buffer given, waiting as
long as necessary, and only return when either the full amount is sent, or an
error occurs.
So a short write/send are perfectly normal on UNIX, but on Windows they're not.
That's why the bug went undetected for so long. As far as I am concerned this is
an evil ploy by Microsoft - because their semantics are a subset of the UNIX
semantics, UNIX software can be simply recompiled to work on Windows, but
software made for Windows needs a lot more work to port to UNIX.
My patch makes send() loop until the entire buffer is written, as some Windows
apps clearly expect. It went in a few versions back, so try the latest version
of wine and report whether it fixes your apps.

The second one was from the c:\windows\temp directory of the respective

Interesting is that Wine did not produce any fixme/error message. I've tried the

Hello,
--- quote ---
I thought even Wine's declaration of $I10_OUTPUT may be wrong.
--- quote ---
Indeed, completely wrong ;-)
Following is the likely $I10_OUTPUT prototype and a working test case for you
(windows msvcrt.dll).
I had to trick M$ VC++ to accept 10-byte long double data (long double is always
mapped to 64 bit double).
--- snip sample code ---
#include <windows.h>
#include <stdio.h>
typedef struct _I10_DATA
{
unsigned short decimal_point_pos; /* decimal-point position */
char sign; /* sign indicator: "-", " " */
unsigned char digits; /* number of digits returned (excluding NULL term) */
char digit_buf[1]; /* storage to digits string (including NULL terminator) */
} I10_DATA, *PI10_DATA;
/*
10-byte long double is a IEEE754 extended precision float
long double:
SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
1FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
double:
SEEEEEEEEEEEFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Where S=sign, E=exp, F=fractional part.
The long double exponent is biased by 16383 and the doubles is biased by 1023.
*/
/*
* struct to fool the idiot compiler into not generating floating point
* instructions when copying and pushing [long] double values
*/
typedef struct
{
unsigned char ldbl[10];
} LONGDOUBLE;
/*
"I10_OUTPUT" prototype
LONGDOUBLE arg1 = long double value (10 bytes)
long arg2 = number of desired digits
long arg3 = flag? (0)
PI10_DATA arg4 = pointer to result data
returns: 1 if ok, 0 if NAN, INFINITY ...
*/
typedef long (*PFN_I10_OUTPUT)(LONGDOUBLE, long, long, PI10_DATA);
int main(int argc, char* argv[])
{
HMODULE hMod = LoadLibrary( "msvcrt.dll");
PFN_I10_OUTPUT pfn = (PFN_I10_OUTPUT) GetProcAddress( hMod, "$I10_OUTPUT");
int num_digits = 7;
PI10_DATA buf = (PI10_STRUCT) HeapAlloc( GetProcessHeap(), 0,
sizeof(I10_DATA)+num_digits);
LONGDOUBLE ld;
double dblNum = -12.3456789;
_asm {
fld dblNum;
fstp TBYTE PTR [ld];
}
long res = pfn( ld, num_digits, 0, buf);
printf( "digits: %d, decimal point: %d, sign: '%c', digits: '%s'\n",
buf->digits, buf->decimal_point_pos, buf->sign, buf->digit_buf);
/* digits: 7, decimal point: 2, sign: '-', digits: '1234568' */
HeapFree( GetProcessHeap(), 0, buf);
FreeLibrary( hMod);
return 0;
}
--- snip sample code ---
If you need more prototypes keep asking ... though that float stuff is not
really my preferred domain :-)
Regards

This problem has been ongoing for some time now. If you moved from one menu to

improved somewhat some time ago; I forgot when. Nowadays, if you move 2 or 3
menus over, one stays on permanently. The overall problem has been ongoing since
the buffer overrun error was fixed in Shareaza. (Forgot when that happened, too)

Plus I've tried installation on WinME just now.
It fails immediately with error msgbox about
"Insufficient privilegies to install this app."
and then some warning msgbox appears. The latter
contains readable text also. Sound system is
working on WinME.
Looks same as your issue, except the game's
error handler is probably not finding its string
resources.
But, well, sound system wasn't working in my WinXP
(XP has no drivers for my old ISA card), where
ArmA made no complaints and was ready to install.
May that be combined sound + privilegies issue
(maybe NtQuerySecurityObject related) ?

It was a long time ago, and I did not get very far. IIRC, Wine doesn't
implement one or more functions in msvcrt. One of them seems to relate to
floating point precision. I thought even Wine's declaration of $I10_OUTPUT may
be wrong.

trouble... Anyway I think that perhaps my regression theory might be wrong
anyway, as I did a bisect between .29 and .30 and all I got were a bunch of
janitorial patches and tests. Besides, I've been playing with current git and it
hasn't crashed on me at all, even on dust2. Why it's not crashing now I don't
really get.
Sorry I wasted your time. :(

When running Diablo ][ and you select TCP/IP game, your IP address comes up as
127.0.1.1 instead of say 192.168.2.3 which makes playing TCP/IP game mode
impossible unless you are hosting. This bug is very frustrating indeed. Also
when playing Diablo ][ with the overlay map, it does not show close enemies as
red + marks. Also later in the game when you try to talk to someone, it does not
show the text of speech nor does it talk to you with audio, yet in the 1st few
levels it does. I hope these bugs are clear. If not, you can ask me more
information via goce_jeb(a)yahoo.com anytime. Thanx..

LOTR: BFME II demo installer requires c:\windows\temp to be in the application path.
1. WinZip self-extracing archive extracts files into c:\windows\temp random
subdir and places installer into c:\windows\temp\AutoRun.exe and
c:\windows\temp\AutoRunGUI.dll.
2. Then it reports that it cannot run .\AutoRun.exe
The problem may be that it also fails to chdir to c:\windows\temp
This problem may affect WinZip self-extracting archives too:

Since the CVS snapshot at 2007/05/26, the crash has been solved and the
installer now works correctly. Maybe it has something to do with the oleaut32
commnt by Robert Shearman. Just a note: registration of an ActiveX control by
this installer requires the presence of a working MFC40.DLL which is not present
(not even stubbed out) in Wine. Maybe it is time to start implementing this DLL ?
Fixed in CVS

>Does this break any specific application for you?
no, I was just testing uTorrent which has problems with binding socket right
after you close it, and saw the difference between windows and wine.
Under Windows
-running uTorrent, it binds port
-establishing gazillion connections
-closing program
-running program again, it binds port
works every time, under Wine it takes up to 10 minutes after closing uTorrent
for the port to be ready to be bound again. I found this
http://hea-www.harvard.edu/~fine/Tech/addrinuse.html
and checked against SO_REUSEADDR just for kicks and saw that its not
implemented under wine. I was wondering if it has anything to do with 10
minutes TIME_WAIT.

everything from scratch. It fails in the very same way. I also tried to change
the work directory, but without success...
The game is not even unpacked as mentionned by Vit. It really breaks very early
in the installation process. I attach the complete WINEDEBUG=+all log file to
this report.

I glanced at your testcase ans saw that you only check the outcom of the
getsockname call, if we want Wine to mimick Windows 100% that call even when
returning WSAEINVAL should NOT zero the sockaddr structure, it should return it
untouched like on windows (we all know there are people who code using windows
bugs as feauteres). So i propose to add if (sa_set.sin_port == sa_get.sin_port)

Ok, so the actual bug seems to be in Wine's getsockname() call indeed. The test
code I have fails on windows, and fails on native POSIX.
So this is a bug in get_socket_fd() returning a socket descriptor that looks
bound to the linux getsockname() call, even though it's not bound.
Unfortunately, I don't fully understand the wineserver code handling this
request in the background, so I don't really understand how to fix it.

I have a large window, there is a tabbed control in it and several buttons on
the bottom of the large window (outside of the tabbed control).
The mouse actions do not reach the external buttons.
If i somehow manage to get the focus on the external buttons (tab key), they
accept input (like enter), and work correctly.
Probably this is connected to the fact that the tabbed control almost overlaps
my buttons (though the buttons are still drawn over it).
In the original windows environment, the tabbed control doesn't overlap the buttons.

The problem with SO_REUSEADDR is that it means something different in Linux. In
Windows, SO_REUSEADDR is sort of a "Kernel, I don't give a damn if that port is
bound to another socket, I want it!", whereas in Linux it is "Kernel, I don't
care if that port is supposed to be blocked for a while after closing, I want it
NOW!".
There's no way we can implement the Windows behaviour in Wine. This would need
to be done at kernel level, and I think there's a lot of sane reasons why it's
not done that way. Last time I checked, even MSDN said the use of SO_REUSEADDR
was discouraged.
Does this break any specific application for you?

| Anyone with socketknowlege could enlighten me on this?
I guess this isn't socket related. As you've
tested, native ws2_32 seems to work even without
"c:\windows\hosts" file present. So should do we.
Maybe WRT suite needs a testcase, where "hosts" file
is removed before calling gethostbyname() and
restored afterwards?

In Wine 0.9.37 I'm able to install and run the demo with the following issues:
1. WinZip extraction works well (very memory intensive) but failes at the end,
when trying to run the installer itself (AutoRun.exe /restart) which is by now
located in random directory in c:\windows\temp\
2. Going to c:\windows\temp\$RANDOM_DIRECTORY and executing AutoRun.exe installs
the game into its proper location. Temporary files from c:\windows\temp\* have
to be removed manually.
3. Rename or delete data/movies/SmallRing.vp6 file prior running the game or You
won't be able to enter the menu.
4. Game works fine then, with occasional crashes in menu.
Tested on nvidia-glx GeForce 7600 GT with UseGLSL enabled.

Some output I got from nice -n 19.
Someone from Bug 1631 suggested trying WINEDEBUG=-all nice -n 19 wine for a
program they were having the same problem with, so I attempted this as well.
It did the exact same thing, minus output. On the impatient side, I began
pressing keys randomly on the keyboard to see if the program itself was taking
any input. I then closed it.
The contents of this attachment were then outputted upon exit of the program.
I have no idea what I did to make it do this, but I can't figure out how to
make it do it again. Must've been something I pressed.

As Dylan said, we're currently short of viable ideas to fix this. Filtering at
the program level imho is inacceptable, and everything else would need kernel
level support. Judging from the linux-net mailing list replies, the kernel devs
don't seem to feel like helping out there.
Personally, I don't feel like creating a kernel patch and boxing it through lkml.
I'm afraid this one is a WONTFIX until someone implements a SO_BROADCAST_RECV
for us in the kernel that allows us to tell a socked bound to a specific ip
address to receive broadcasts coming in on the device that owns the IP address
our socket is bound to.
If this sounds like gibberish to you, I can't blame you. However, I am not going
to spend any more time on this bug, I have enough other things to fix. Adding
more "Please fix this." posts probably won't help.

trace:msvcrt:msvcrt_init_args got "link .... /LIBPATH:C:\\Documents\" and
\"Settings\\picca\\Bureau\\cppunit-1.10.2\\lib ...
This looks wrong. I tried a quick test, and I cannot reproduce this in current
git, I always correctly get:
trace:msvcrt:msvcrt_init_args got "test .... \"/LIBPATH:C:\\Documents and
Settings\\picca\\Bureau\\cppunit-1.10.2\\lib\" ...
Can you try again and see if its still a problem, I am wondering if someone
fixed a parms parsing issue (I tried wine command line plus from wine's cmd)

When trying to start a new game in AoE II, I am always met with a crash related

I don't think that's needed anymore. The latest version (0.9.37) runs Lemmings
Revolution just fine apart from some missing sound effects.

Wine CVS, FlatOut.exe trace
Same bug experienced with Flatout v1.0 on wine-0.9.36, 0.9.37, and latest CVS.
Using a Yamaha YMF-754 sound card. I think this should definitely be classified
as a _major_ bug. From what I can see in the traces and other comments, this
is happening with a wide variety of sound controllers, so that would (in my
inexperienced mind) eliminate driver issues.
Partial trace attached. I suppose every little bit of info helps.

Alban, would you be so kind as to signup yourself for a free account and test
eFax using it?
PS it would be nice to add app name to the summary. eg: "eFax cannot send faxes".

This question probably should be answered by kernel folks:
-Is there any particular reason both Product name and Manufacturer name are
concatenated into single string: joydev->handle.dev->name ?
I have no kernel src so wasn't looking at "struct joydev". Maybe here they keep
another pointer to the middle of "name" string?

sock.c:1658:getsockname returned : 33403, should be 33403
sock.c:1672:Binding second socket failed as expected, thats good: 10048

sock.c:1658:getsockname returned : 33403, should be 33403
sock.c:1672:Binding second socket failed as expected, thats good: 10048
sock.c:1684:getsockname returned : 0, should be 33403
wine passes the getsockname call to unbinded socket zeroing sockaddr structure
- this is the other way arround than I was thinking previously (I suspected
windows to pass, wine to fail).

Meant to also post the results in the terminal when I got the messed up screen.
the first part about 'multiple rows not supported' happens before adding the
surface plot and seems indicate some items I see missing in MathCAD's menus. The
last part about the R300 happens when I add the plot.

OK, dcom98 is part of the solution. At least it doesn't crash and it does
attempt to draw the surface chart. However the application's page is pretty
messed up. I will attach what I see before and after adding the surface chart.
Advise as to whether this bug report should be closed and a different one opened
for the graphics issue. Not sure of the right way to get proper folks attention.
Thanks!
