Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.35.
Platform: PC

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ruediger.koerschulte(a)gmx.de
Hallo Zusammen,

The solution is simple: do not run user32 tests in a virtual desktop.
Personally I consider that configuration broken.
I'm not planning to do any work to make the tests pass under that config.

There are quite some failures in the user32 msg test, while running it under
wine with virtual desktop feature (didn't test it without) while not touching
the mouse and the keyboard (at least mouse movement produces more failures).
Someone else reproduced a similar failure count.

Locomotion installs fine, but when you try to run it it loads something, then
fails with the message "Unable to initilitize graphics system". This happens
with the initial 1.0 version or with the 1.76 patch applied. I'm using a nocd
patch in both cases due to bug 7065. (I don't know that the bug is in direct
draw, I'm just guessing)

Summary: Adobe Photoshop 6 automated installation bug
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.35.
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.tucows.com/get/214261_90608
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ncliang(a)google.com
When doing an automated install of photoshop 6 using a response file generated
in windows, the main process of the installer returns early on with an error
code while the rest of the installation continues. To reproduce:
1. Download AdobePS6Tryout.exe
2. unzip the self-extracting zip file
3. Download the response file setup.iss into the same directory as Setup.exe
4. wine Setup.exe /s
The installer exits very quickly, but I can still see a process created by the
installer running after it exits. After some time, that process exits and prints
out:
err:menubuilder:fork_and_wait wineshelllink returned 1
err:menubuilder:InvokeShellLinker failed to fork and exec wineshelllink
err:menubuilder:fork_and_wait wineshelllink returned 1
err:menubuilder:InvokeShellLinker failed to fork and exec wineshelllink
Doing a +relay, I can see a call to:
0013:Call kernel32.ExitProcess(7ffdf000) ret=00407a50
All the other processes seem to exit normally though.

This is different from the original Civilization 4 issue in that using the
msxml3 override doesn't fix it, just changes the behavior. In either case you
get a messsage:
"Caught unhandled exception creating XML parser object. Current XML file is:"
The only difference being is that WITH the override it says that and then
closes. WITHOUT the override it says that (with an xml file after it) twice then
pagefaults.

So I looked into this a bit further, its using mfc42.dll (which is native only),
and then the python code that is used fails, so imvu returns an error, and then
the program tries to call a function in msvcp60.dll, which causes the crash.

Hello,
make sure .wine directory is clean
use recent git snapshot: wine-0.9.35-69-g55a18d7
download installer 3.04 from:
http://www.powerstandards.com/PQTeachingToy/Install_Power_Quality_Teaching_…
Install. Start. *Boom*
If you look at the VarTokenizeFormatString() source code in
dlls/oleaut32/varformat.c you can easily construct a test case which leads to crash.
I even post a small code snippet for you
(1st case is just for sake, 2nd case is the real one)
--- code snippet ---
VARIANT var1, var2;
HRESULT hr;
int intVal;
BSTR bsResult1, bsResult2;
var1.vt = VT_R8;
var1.dblVal = 123456789.12;
hr = ::VarFormat( &var1, OLESTR("### ### ### ###.00"), 0, 0, 0, &bsResult1);
printf( "result: %S\n", ( hr == S_OK) ? bsResult1 : OLESTR("FAIL!"));
::SysFreeString(bsResult1);
intVal = 100;
var2.vt = VT_I2|VT_BYREF;
var2.pintVal = &intVal;
hr = ::VarFormat( &var2, OLESTR("##rd harmonic"), 0, 0, 0, &bsResult2);
printf( "result: %S\n", ( hr == S_OK) ? bsResult2 : OLESTR("FAIL!"));
::SysFreeString(bsResult2);
--- code snippet ---
Output windows:
result: 123 456 789,12
result: 100rd harmonic
Output wine:
result: 123 456 789.12
err:variant:VARIANT_FormatDate Unknown token 0x35!
result: FAIL!

I think Dreamfall has this bug too:
When in the game, there are TV screens in a lot of places. Sometimes an in-game
video should be played on these screens, but instead there is just a black
screen while you hear the sound belonging to the video.
In the Program's root directory there is the file binw32.dll:
~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Funcom/Dreamfall/binkw32.dll
And video files are present with the extension .bik in ~/.wine/drive_c/Program
Files/Funcom/Dreamfall/bin/res/video
>From the moment I could get Dreamfall to run with Wine (0.9.29 I think) up to
0.9.35 and the latest version from CVS (wine-0.9.35-g55a18d7) I have never seen
these videos work.

Hello,
next time try to fill bug report more thoroughly, e.g. include app name in
summary and provide app download link (even if i already know it).
First, the app doesnt crash.
It exits due to license manager error (after confirm dialog).
The console message you see is an interesting wine issue.
--- snip ---
Warning: the specified Windows directory L"%SystemRoot%" is not accessible.
--- snip ---
I searched bug database and found some references to this error message but no
one could explain it.
Took some time to find the real cause: some custom installer licensing component
does it.
It only happens if you let "NT Drivers" component selected on standard/custom
install.
"NT Drivers" is Crypkey licensing component which adds kernel driver and native
nt service.

Basically the %WINDIR% registry entry is modified during custom component
installation.
*mumble* Developers should be shot at once for messing around with such stuff ...
Before:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\Environment\WinDir -> c:\windows
After:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\Environment\WinDir -> %systemroot%
The interesting point of this: it might have worked, if wine supports
REG_EXPAND_SZ keys on %WINDIR%.
I tested it by importing an REG_EXPAND_SZ Windir but it's ignored by wine.
So this unearthed a wine deficiency too :)
To fix this, restore the REG_SZ key after installation to "c:\windows".
---
As mentioned above, the app itself is protected by crypkey software
protection/licensing scheme (http://www.crypkey.com/).
This includes some NT service and kernel driver.
The kernel driver obviously wont work due to known wine limitations (native
ntoskrnl api).
The NT service itself should run but it seems the SCM stuff wont work lately due
to recent git commits (named pipe issues/broken).
My native msi service wont work too due to that issue.
Seems to affect ole (out-of-proc) servers stuff too.
--- snip ---
err:ole:local_server_thread Failure during ConnectNamedPipe 317
--- snip ---
If pipe/scm stuff gets resolved, i might investigate further
But be aware: if the kernel mode licensing component is really needed to work,
you might be completely out of luck.
You could try the whole stuff with winecfg=Win9X, it might be possible they use
non ring0 mechanisms for that platform.

Regression testing shows that things started to go wrong with patch commit
5defa499795116cc996085e1142137bb03844200 'Moved update region handling to the
server'
This is not so surprising, since it clearly changes window drawing/handling.
The patch causes very bad behaviour - blank screen and flikering cursor. A
latter patch has obviously made it better - but with the behaviour I now have
with this app. I'll try and find that patch as well.

Hello,
--- quote ---
Can we have Wine detect the buggy installshield and
give a specific warning that directs the user to
a wiki page that describes the fix?
--- quote ---
Detect a broken ishield installation (already present) or quiet prerequisite
installation (presetup step)?
Possible but why hack wine for such deficencies.
-1-
Some shell script that checks for buggy (known) ishield versions by traversing
file system (beware of localized folder names/different ishield version folders)
MD5 on specific files, like "IKernel.exe" which is checked against "bad boy" list.
Only useful if ishield components already present.
Not fool proof, if the app installer brings it's own buggy ishield kernel
(older/newer) along and uses it.
-2-
Hook LoadLibraryA/W and -Ex on api level (like in native windows).
Can be global or local hook (wrapper spawn with dll injection).
That way *any* buggy version of installshield kernel can be detected at runtime.
Detection would be same as 1. -> check module MD5 against list of known "bad boys".
Though one has to ask: how many buggy installshield versions are floating around
and how many wine bug reports might result from this?
You might end up writing detection tools for all sorts of installers ...
I don't see the value by adding such stuff to wine (as scripts/diagnostic tools).
There is already "Wine Known Issues" wiki page present, with that 0x80040706
listed too.
Maybe some link could be added which directs the user to ishield support page
(for this case: http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=q110641)

Hello,

Do you have 1 minute to look at this bug?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6892
-- snip --
Nice joke :)
I got 2k/s download speed on average from that .hu site.
That makes 8 hours download time and 5 minutes hunting the bug down :)
Anyway, it's a bug in installshield 6.x kernel itself.
Download the following fix for this specific installshield version used in this
setup:
http://support.installshield.com/kb/files/Q108322/IkernelUpdate.exe
DON'T use it for any other setup packages (it depends on installshield kernel
version)!
1. cleanup/remove "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\engine"
2. install "IkernelUpdate.exe"
3. run the Protel installer again.
It should now finish without any further critical errors.
Didnt look at app itself.
If you find some non working wine stuff, file new bug reports.
Regards

I can easily reproduce this bug by comparing CPU usage when I drag any
application window (e.g. wine-notepad) in Wine 0.9.31 and any later Wine
version/snapshot.
Unfortunately I'm not good at bisecting git changes so I cannot track this
regression down to a particular patch.
The only thing which I've updated for the last three months is a FC6's X.org 7.1
(and, of course, kernel).

Resolving it as a duplicate of the metabug to keep things cleaner, we don't
really need a bug entry for every single game that doesn't start due to copy
protection as that would be quite an insane amount, it also makes it look like
games don't work when linked to the AppDB where as the metabug names are more
just informational.
(yes I know some people hate metabugs but I think it makes sense for the sake of
copy protection else we end up with a big duplication of effort).

not the Canonical server).
Component: I guessed because bugzilla commanded me to -- I can't do anything at
all with wine so who knows which component is dying?
wine cmd: creates ~/.wine directory, prints version and DOS prompt, and is then
dead. It'll echo keystrokes, but that's all. ^C required to get back out to
linux prompt.
wineconsole cmd: Changes the color of the terminal text, and prints
"fixme:curses:WCCURSES_GetEvents Ooch. somebody beat us" repeatedly. Does not
respond to ^C. I have to open another terminal, find the wineconsole process and
kill it. The terminal it was in is hosed, and requires a reset to work properly
again.
I also tried uninstalling the ubuntu package, and building from the Source. Same
failures.
Was working OK until there was a flurry of updates (3, I think) starting a few
days ago. Just noticed this past update that it was broken.

case is caused by an extra space (0x20) charachter.
However, the problem shows up with a Unicode terminal (such as uxterm) and a
Unicode locale (such as "LANG=en_US.utf8"). Here's a simplified version of the
problem; "A" represents a non-ASCII character, "@" represents a blank spot or
special symbol (depending on font) because of an invalid UTF-8 sequence, and
"XX" represents two characters that are the LATIN-1 glyphs for the parts of a
UTF-8 character:
bash> echo bA >bA
bash> wine CMD.EXE
cmd> echo xA >xA
cmd> dir /w
[.] [..] b@ xA
cmd> exit
bash> ls
bA xXX
The files that should be "bA" and "xA", respectively, contain the UTF-8 text
"bA\n" and "xA \n" (the first is 4 bytes long if the character A fits in two
bytes, and the second is 5 bytes long).

Well, the msxml3 problem is bug 7849 (which is a bug in setupapi). I imagine
this will install fine once that bug is fixed.

------- Additional Comments From wine(a)kapila.force9.co.uk 2007-15-03 05:55 -------
Additional Information:
Crash is occurring in the Everquest2.exe process.
Before the crash, SymInitializeW is called with a process handle 0xffffffff.
process_find_by_handle finds an existing process with this handle.
For some reason, another process structure is allocated after this, so the next
call to process_find_by_handle finds TWO processes with the handle 0xffffffff
and returns the second one (Though changing the code to return the first one
makes no difference).
SymInitializeW returns successfully.
Then SymFromAddr is called a few times, and each time symt_find_nearest returns
FALSE, because the following lines
symt_get_info(&module->addr_sorttab[0]->symt, TI_GET_ADDRESS, &ref_addr);
if (addr < ref_addr) return NULL;
This is as far as I have been able to trace it. I cannot run with +relay enabled
as this causes things to slow down so much that the game times out before the
crash. Is there anyway I can enable the + relay from the code? (eg when the
above lines of code are called?
------- Additional Comments From andrey.turkin(a)gmail.com 2007-18-04 17:19 -------
Native dbghelp.dll use some sort of reference counting for process structure, so
it can recover from multiply SymInitialize/SymCleanup calls with identical
hProcess (native increments refcount, returns TRUE and, strangely enough, sets
last error to ERROR_INVALID_HANDLE).
You can try hacky approach - to return from SymInitialize immediately when
process_find_by_handle finds record (just put return TRUE; instead of
FIXME("What to do?"). Proper way is probably to implement refcounter.

Summary: Worms Armageddon and Worms World Party stop responding
to input after closing dialogs
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.35.
Platform: PC
URL: http://wwp.team17.com/main.html?page=comm&area=_down_dem
o
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-user
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: madewokherd(a)gmail.com
After closing a dialog in the WA or WWP frontend when in virtual desktop mode,
the frontend no longer responds to input.
I know the WA frontend uses user.dll for its controls (i.e. they are real
windows controls with real windows) and ddraw to draw them, so I'm filing this
under user.
I remember discovering when poking at this earlier that after the dialogs are
closed, another window (whose purpose is unknown to me) actually obscures WA's
main window that has the controls. The controls are still visible because ddraw
draws over everything (this is not wine's normal behavior but it is the correct
behavior and it's how the patches for bug 2082 work) but according to the
windowing system they are obscured. I assume that means they get no input events.
I do not know why that happens or why this works in windows.
This can be reproduced by running the WWP demo (see the howto at
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=3905) and attempting to start a
network game (the demo doesn't allow this and creates a dialog to let you know).

Component: wine-directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: madewokherd(a)gmail.com
Worms Armageddon and World World Party require native quartz and devenum dlls
for the sound to work properly.
They used to crash with builtin quartz (which was actually a regression so now
we're back to the original problem which I'm about to describe), but now the
sound glitches in different ways depending on the sound driver. With OSS, the
sound works fine for a while and then turns to static at random times. With
ALSA, there's a sort of "echo" effect that's difficult to describe.
This problem can be reproduced with the WWP demo, when can be installed/run as
described in the howto at http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=3905

The game does work, you have to press F9 in order to skip the cinematics... it
appears that wine cannot play cinematics within a game, so you have to do this.
I messed a little with the game afterwards and everything works great, except
for Four mayor bugs:
1) The videos don't work(it is important if you have not play the game before
and want to enjoy the story, altough you can play them with mplayer but you have
to know the order they appear)
2) If you have asign a gamepad to play the game, the arrows on the gamepad don't
work(this can be worked around if you use the keyboard, although i hate using
the kb in these type of games)
3) Shadows don't work either (this is the less relevant bug if you're not after
aesthetic of the game)
4) The worst one: When in game graphics, the position of the camera is sometimes
too far away making you see all the map and glitches (specially after winning a
fight) if you have control of the game you can solve this going into the
iventory and then out to the game, the camera will be restored, but it's a pain
in the ass and specially in the scenes where you cannot control the party.
As you see, if it weren't for bug 4 the game will be playable and ejoyable...
Well I hope this works, take care...

This results in reaper (www.reaper.fm) completely freezes the machine when

parsing within the literal.
It takes last char of literal "c" as FMT_TYPE_DATE (date) which brings the
parser out of sync (see trace).
The date type conversion/coercion later is due to buggy parsing.
Fixing the "general date format"/"else if (*pFormat == 'c' || *pFormat == 'C')"
part isnt enough.
The VarTokenizeFormatString() tokenizer has a general problem: the actual
variant type isnt taken into account (which could serve as hint).
To overcome "literal-or-not" parsing AI limitation, i think it's best to use the
actual variant type (1st param) passed into VarFormat().
No ambiguities.
Example: (VT_I2|VT_BYREF) -> it's obvious, that one of the tokens must be
integer (##) but can't be general date format (c).
VarTokenizeFormatString() needs to be modified to receive information of
expected token types too.
Regards

I think you are digging in the wrong direction. It's clear that you can not have
empty section/key. Why your program tries to do that I do not know, but it's
either a bug in that program (which will make it crash on all nt+ systems) or
it's not getting some information from Wine that it's uses to populate section

There are quite a log of windows input method modules (IMEs) has no linux port.
two steps are involved here:
1) implements ime-related APIs to make it run.
2) using the wined-IME to input character to normal(non-wine) X11 program. I
think this is hard and related to the general IME/XIM infrastructure. Hence I

RE: opening OpenOffice documents by Dan Kegel on Tuesday April 17th
2007, 12:01
OK, now we're getting somewhere. Is this the recipe?
On opensuse-10.2,
install wine-0.9.35 using yast
install openoffice-2.2 using yast
install Lotus client 7 in wine
Receive an email in Lotus client that has a .doc attachment
Doubleclick on the attachment
Wine barfs with call to unimplemented function shell32.dll.OpenAs_RunDLLW
And now that I understand, I see lots of references to that
function on the web. People often do things like
rundll32.exe shell32.dll,OpenAs_RunDLL d:\path\filename.ext
to start applications, for some reason. (Heck, even Microsoft
does, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/192352 )
So this should be easy to reproduce without Lotus or OpenOffice.
Annoyingly, this is an undocumented Windows API call, but I
guess we can figure it out.
If that all sounds like an accurate description of the problem,
please go ahead and file a bug at http://bugs.winehq.org
(you can even just copy and paste what I wrote above).

After some investigation, I have found that Navigation loads a gif file using
LoadPicture (in VB) and store it in a StdPicture. Then it calls SetDIBColorTable
on it.
The gif file can be find at http://maiou.hd.free.fr/gif
It appears SetDIBColorTable fails here :
if (bitmap->color_table)
OleLoadPictureEx (called for VB's LoadPicture) seems not to create the bitmap
color table, with the consequence described above for Navigation.

For Git, I don't have Git installed on my system. I have a package on my

Summary: DVD Shrink: Goes into infinite loop when Creating Class
Enumerator
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.35.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-winelib
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: austinenglish(a)gmail.com
Just began occuring in Wine 0.9.35. Has worked fine in previous versions. To
test, try launching DVD Shrink from console. After a few seconds, a few error
messages will show, then a loop will begin. Pressing Ctrl+C to terminate this
allows the app to function normally (as far as I could tell). Once the app
started, and DVD files were opened, before analysis would begin, another Ctrl+C
was necessary. The same was true for encoding (this was a single layer DVD, so
deep analysis was not done). I then recreated the bug from a clean wine install,
and it still remains. Log will be attached shortly.
Note: I'm unsure what component to file this under, so please change to what is
appropriate.

You can install starmoney 6 without the vendor-supplied linux_setup.sh

if you set the ie6 registry key (winetricks fakeie6)
and then run the setup left behind by their self-extracting

But starting the app fails with
fixme:shdocvw:OleObject_SetHostNames (0x1710d8)->(L"WebBrowser OC Container",

and a dialog saying IE6sp2 is required.

through with you to work out what is going on
I did some testing with a character I can get with altgr + a (unicode c3a6 -
æ). Basically it would appear the environment variable LC_CTYPE is the key to
this. If I set LC_CTYPE to en_GB this didnt work at all, but setting it to
en_US and it all worked properly (echo, dir etc).
Whats the LANG and LC_CTYPE set to here? Any suggestions for a non-NLS linux
person to recreate the problem?

Unfortunately I think that will be somewhat hard to fix. The problem is that the

because we use up a few uniforms for bool and ivec4 constants.
