I'd be happy to attach a log of those debug channels, but it will be a few hours
before I'll be able to make that run as I have some real-time work in progress.
I'm not experienced with WINEDEBUG, so I'd like to make sure I get the syntax
right: (I use csh.)
setenv WINEDEBUG "mshtml,shdocvw,urlmon,htmlhelp"
wine program-file-path.exe >& logfile
Should I put a '+' in front of each channel name?
Thanks.

I'm not using IE or other web browser function. I'm seeing the problem with the

Besides that, I always use a clean Wine prefix area, removing the old one
multiple times to verify repeatability.

correct a few mistakes
It seems that my patch triggers a loop somewhere that makes wine request focus
alternatively for each of the windows untill user moves cursor over one of
them. I suppose that since _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW is not garanteed to succeed one
has to check if it did.
I tried to trace this down and made a few corrections while at it (attached),
but I couldn't figure out where did this loop start and run out of time. Maybe
I can revisit this later...

>You really need to investigate msvcrt and cmd.exe problems separately
I am... this patch is NOT the cmd.exe part, this is the msvcrt issue.
Unfortunately the bug is for both, which is why a fair part of the confusion
between us is arising. I had suspicions they were related, but believe not now
>your test uses msvcrt to read the output file
Yes, but its reading it as bytes, not as any kind of formatted data. ie MSVCRT
cant do dataconversion without knowing a data type, so using fread has to
resolve in unconverted byte input. I can change it to a ReadFile if it will
make you happier but I do not believe its an essential. If I was using eg.
fgets then I'd agree with you.

Implements QueryServiceStatusEx
Hello,
when you play with sc.exe tool, you might notice following message:
--- snip ---
fixme:advapi:QueryServiceStatusEx stub
[SC] StartService: QueryServiceStatusEx FAILED 120:
Call not implemented
--- snip ---
As most SCM tools use this function (instead of QueryServiceStatus()), i
implemented it, see attached patch (against wine-0.9.35-25-g58c7c51).
There is only a small problem left: if QueryServiceStatusEx() caller really
need service process id, it should be saved upon service_start_process() (maybe
in service_data) and returned later.
Though the process id issue requires very little SCM related changes i leave
this exercise to SCM/advapi subsystem maintainer :)
With that, the tool works as expected (returning real service status).
Be aware it might unearth SCM/named pipe related bugs :)
Regards

I don't see any firewall problems on the router or the box. Also, my
linux-based browsers work just fine, as do windows-based browsers when they're
run from a windows box. I'm really not an expert on this stuff though ---I'm
reading about transparent proxies now, but I don't know how to configure one.
You mentioned that the missing stuff should be fixed. There's a lot of missing
stuff, some of which is presumably irrelevant to this problem (e.g.
linux/ucdrom.h) but I have no idea what most of it does, or where to get it. Is
there something that stands out as potentially being responsible for this?

conversions of input data, you have to use CreateFile/ReadFile instead.
You really need to investigate msvcrt and cmd.exe problems separately.

Besides all the missing stuff (most of which should be fixed btw) I don't see
nothing wrong.
The Firefox 2.x works fine here. Could you check if you have any firewall

Summary: Regression: Wine Gecko install hits an unhandled page
fault
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.35.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rm.riches(a)verizon.net
This appears to be a regression from 0.9.34 to 0.9.35. Wine Gecko installer
goes to 'installing', stays there for several seconds, then Wine blows up with
an unhandled page fault.
Application is PAF (Personal Ancestral File) 5. Application installation and
initial use appear to work fine. When clicking on the yellow question mark at
the top of the window (the help button), the help panel comes up properly. A
dialog box comes up asking to install Wine Gecko, which downloads and switches
to "installing" in the dialog box. The hourglass next to the mouse cursor
pointer icon flickers for a few seconds, then it stops for a few more seconds,
then Wine blows away with an unhandled page fault.
The help function didn't start being usable at all until Wine 0.9.32. With Wine
versions 0.9.32, 0.9.33, and 0.9.34, Wine Gecko would install and give at least
some level of help functionality.
AppDB page for application version is
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=1706
I'll try to attach a text dump showing the unhandled page fault.

Hello,
you have to start the msi installer service manually before trying to run msi
client on NT based wine configs.
For that, use a tool which can call appropriate SCM api.
A very handy one is the NT based "sc.exe" (copy it over from windows system32
installation).
The errornous CLSID you see in trace {000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} is
IMsiServer, provided by CoRegisterClassObject which runs in ServiceMainThread .
You have following options:
1. run native msi under winecfg=Win9X -> runs msi as inproc server -> no service
used
2. use sc.exe to spawn separate service (out-of-proc ole server) process
To ensure all necessary registry entries are created you can use following
options on msiexec.exe binary itself:
/regserver (out-of-proc ole service)(out-of-proc ole service)
/regserverca (out-of-proc ole service)
/regnoservice (out-of-proc ole server only)
(same applies to /unregxxxxx stuff)
You can run native msiexec installer from commandline using following options:
as client: "msiexec /i <product>.msi /l*v install.log"
as service (name = "msiserver"): "msiexec /v"
as custom action server: "msiexec.exe -Embedding <some GUID>"
Basically:
1. "wine msiexec /regserver"
2. "wine sc.exe start MsiService" (after that you have msiexec service process
running)
3. "wine msiexec /i <blah>.msi /l*v install.log"
If you have problems/encounter bugs, feel free to report back.
This stuff probably applies to many native msi installer service related bug
reports :)
Regards

Summary: Dungeon Siege II has a major memory leak
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.35.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: floppie(a)quadra-tec.net
Once I updated WINE to 0.9.35, I noticed that, while playing Dungeon Siege II,
the game slowly takes up more and more memory (at a rate of roughly 1MB/sec on
my system). Once the OS starts denying it memory, it crashes. I have 1GB of
system RAM and a 2GB swap partition, and it starts getting denied once the swap
partition is up to roughly 1.6GB. Naturally, once the physical memory fills up
the game's frame rate slows to a crawl.
The memory leak seems to occur in some fundamental underlying part of the game's
main loop - even sitting still in the middle of a town it occurs.

LC_IDENTIFICATION="cs_CZ.ISO-8859-2"

I tried copy some windows fonts to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts directory but
without any effect in game and i added logfile with debug messages related to
fonts and two screenshots in different situations.
When game is started all text are visible, but after i click at any button in
game menu some characters (mostly all characters) disappear and texts become
invisible. Only some characters are displayed, but randomly and at wrong places.

I rewrote the profile test patch making a separate function.
Maybe the behaviour of GetPrivateProfileString does not match
GetPrivateProfileInt?
This new test should be very close to what the application does.
If this still does not work, I am falling short on ideas.
Thanks for your help.

Oh, I don't doubt it could be buggy. I'm
just wondering how native msi insulates itself
from the bug.
Perhaps it's significant that custom action dlls
are run in a separate process by native msi.
That way, a single call could crash without killing
the calling installer.
Ideally we could install native msi but that doesn't seem
to be working on Wine lately; I just tried it, and added details to
bug 5809

I am already using a no-cd exe file, however the problem with that is that
there isn't a no-cd exe for the game's latest patch. But I'm trying to take
things one step at a time; step one would be to get the game working in Wine
with the no-cd exe of the unpatched version. Which, as I said, doesn't work.

Summary: Media Player Classic segfaults after
err:ole:CoGetClassObject
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.35.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-ole
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: daanschulpen(a)gmail.com
When trying to run Media Player Classic under wine, it crashes when browsing for
a file to open.
Using Kubuntu 6.10, wine 0.9.35 (latest package for ubuntu from the WineHQ
repository), Media Player Classic 6.4.9.0 (Bug information gathered using the
Win98/ME build, but the WinXP/2K build exhibits the same behaviour)
Without any configuration, the program seems to start fine but doesn't display
filenames when browsing for a file. I tried fixing this by switching to a native
comdlg32.dll copied from my Windows XP Pro SP2 installation, but now the program
crashes when I hit the browse button.
Steps to reproduce:
- Download the Win98/ME build of Media Player Classic and extract mplayerc.exe
(I used ~./wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Media\ Player\ Classic/)
- Remove or rename the comdlg32.dll in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32
- Copy comdlg32.dll from the system32 directory of a Windows XP Pro SP2 to
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/
- run WINEDLLOVERRIDES=comdlg32=n wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Media\
Player\ Classic/mplayerc.exe
- Open the "File" menu and choose "Open File"
- A dialog should appear. Click the topmost "Browse" button in this dialog,
next to the inputfield labeled "Open"
At this point wine exits.
I will attach the last 100 lines of debug output as per
http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/wineusr-guide/bug-reporting. The debug output
was generated using
WINEDLLOVERRIDES=comdlg32=n WINEDEBUG=+loaddll,+relay wine
~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Media\ Player\ Classic/mplayerc.exe 2>
~/wine-mplayerc.log
This is the complete output, both wine and media player classic don't print
anything on stdout. Please let me know if I should provide any other information.
I tried to see if a native ole32.dll would fix this, both by copying it from my
WinXP and by following the instructions at http://wiki.winehq.org/NativeDcom. In
both cases, wine still crashed when following the steps I described above
(modified for extra DLL overrides). Please let me know if I should submit extra
information and/or bug reports concerning those crashes.

Hello,
-- quote --
Next question: why doesn't it crash on Windows?
-- quote --
My guess: component/code probably isnt loaded/executed on native windows.
Though i admit i can't really verify it now (dont want to mess up my XP+Acrobat8
installation).
If this code snippet is executed on windows it will crash there too for sure.
If curious, start the acrobat msi setup package, attach a debugger to msi
service, let the debugger break on dll load event.
For every break, compare all temporarily created installer dlls (msiXXXX.tmp in
%TEMP%) with MD5=afdcb82bc57eab7c1062b9b2ecbc0cf3 with filesize 53248 bytes.
This is the buggy one.
If this one gets loaded, put a breakpoint to desired address (disassembly
snippet) and single step before the call at text:10004C34. Make note of stack
pointer.
Step over and watch stack pointer again. Then let go ...
Believe me, this code isnt valid :)
Regards

I'd like this to work; if a problem goes away when using
native msi, it's a strong clue the problem should be filed
under wine-msi :-)
I can confirm that something's wrong with native msi,
though I get farther than Ulf did.
I followed the instructions in the wiki,
and even automated them; you can repeat with
wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks msi2
This seems to install fine. The problem comes when
you try to install a .msi:
wine msiexec /i foo.msi

This is on two different machines, both running Debian linux amd64 2.6.18 (so
this is 64-bit wine). I've tested on wine 9.35, 9.34, and 9.31, and the
behavior was the same.
Both Firefox and Opera (I've tested multiple versions of both) can't access web
pages normally, however if I enter the IP address for a site, they can connect
and load it.
Additional weirdness with Opera:
One of my machines runs apache, and simply entering in a url (e.g.
http://www.google.com) redirects to a default page (e.g.
http://www.google.com/apache2-default) on that machine.
This seems similar to bug 733, which is fixed.

Far Manager (version 1.70 build 2087) doesn't work with Wine version 0.9.35.
When started using wineconsole, it keeps printing following message:
"fixme:curses:WCCURSES_GetEvents Ooch. somebody beat us". It those messages are
redirected to /dev/null, it doesn't show anything (maybe it tries to draw
something, but printing those messages seem to slow it down a lot, and I don't
seee anything on console). Far Manager worked fine with
wine 0.9.33 and 0.9.34, although it has several bugs, and I was unable to use
Ctrl/Alt key combinations with it.
I'm using Slackware 11 Linux with 2.6.17.13 kernel. Wine is "latest stable" and
wasn't modified in any way.

Hello,
a good one :)
Wasn't that easy to track down due to gazillions of temporary dlls being
loaded/unloaded at same base (deferred breakpoints suck at this).
Backtrace is useless because the stack gets smashed.
It's a bug in some custom installshield component itself.

"DeletePrinterDriverExA" is winapi -> __stdcall.
The compiler generated code for __cdecl.
After hot-patching all wrong calling conv signatures in memory (few calls), the
installer continues and completes successfully.
Blame adobe devs on it :)

Running setup.exe on the HL2 collector's edition cd gets as far as the steam
install, once steam finishes installing, it fails instantly. Running the hl2.exe
installer itself does appear to work, however clicking the "Next" button has no
effect, it doesn't even register the action.

Bug confirmed in 0.9.35...
Yet, it deserves mention that things have somehow improved since first
bug-report (improvement is not 0.9.35 specific, but appeared through the series).
Specifically:
Document icons are now ~ OK.
Spurious document tabs still appear, but their behavior is very predictable (for
every tab, you get a spurious empty tab, with no window associated to it, that
when clicked produces a completely blue or a completely white screen). Clicking
on "regular" tabs pops up the correct windows.

Say, the app does install properly, but there are a few caveats:
1) the console has complaints unless you have MSVCRTP60.dll (?) installed,
so I did 'winetricks vcrun6' before installing
2) the msxml4 install runs twice, presumably because the first
run didn't register the dlls properly?
3) the console shows an msi crash,
=>1 0x7ea23613 ORDER_mergesort+0xb3(ov=0x16fc18, left=0x421a, right=0x421b)
[/home/dank/wine-git/dlls/msi/order.c:97] in msi (0x0033eba8)
That should probably be fixed even though it didn't keep
the installer from finishing and reporting success.
FWIW I'll attach an +msi,+text log.

Confirming still present in 0.9.35. I've been doing a lot of testing lately and
this one is really difficult to reproduce. Because of that it's probably going
to be *very* difficult to fix. But I did notice something that may help. It
always seems to crash for me either when I'm shooting at someone (or something,
such as a vent) or I'm being shot at. I was just in an HL2DM server (which I was
able to join fine) and it crashed when I was dueling someone with the gravity gun.
I also notice a similar pattern of behavior with CS: Source. It always seems to
crash during a firefight.

i will have to test if it still works, but i remember that some long time ago i
made timidity work with wine. i set timidity as alsa synth, in wine i used oss
whoich used alsa oss emulation actually and sound was played correctly.
all i had to do was launch timidity with parameter -iA (Launch TiMidity++ as
ALSA sequencer client). long time ago means wine version 0.9.20 or so. try if it
will help

Setting the windows version to either 98 or xp works around this bug.
Looking at the inf files for the 2k installation I see that msdaorar.dll
is listed twice, which explains error 32 (sharing violation). The question
is, should the file still be open? Or maybe a sharing violation is not a
fatal error? Should the copy be deferred to the next boot? Let's see if
I can reproduce this with a test case.

Just to let you know this is still present in 0.9.35.
Is there any more information we can give to help this, or should we just wait?

I found the bug and sent a fix to wine-patches
The problem was that I added code to IDirect3DVertexDeclaration9_Release which
prevented the decl from beeing destroyed if it is the converted fvf decl,
because it is still needed, but is supposed to have refcount 0. When a new
vertex decl is set, I AddRef and Release it to destroy it, but unfortunately
did that before unsetting the converted decl pointer :-/ . The patch adds a
shared Destroy function for Release and SetVertexDeclaration to avoid the
AddRef-Release games.

I'm also having a similar problem. My screen only stays black. I can hit the
"X" to close the wine virtual desktop and will be shown the titlebar for
"Planescape: Torment" and supposedly a dialog box, because I can hit "Esc" and
be put back to the black screen. Sometimes this will start the music playing
like it's on the title screen, but I still can't see anything.
