AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
The best place I could find so far to download the tryout version is
http://www.winsoft.eu/support/download-adobe-acrobat.php
This points to ftp3.winsoft.fr, which I think is a safe and reputable site.
The tryouts there are all in Eastern European or Middle East languages,
but the installers let you pick English.
Running the e.g. greek installer for Acrobat Pro 7 tryout,
the first issue is an apparant lockup, but that's just
the installer taking five seconds loading each of ten EULAs.
The first serious problem is a crash when it tries to remove
the old distiller printer. Here's the intersting part of the +msi,+winspool
log:

This might be a bug in our winspool, but I'm flagging it as
msi because I'm not quite sure. (And getting a +relay is going
to be painful unless you can turn on +relay just before the
custom action is run.)

Bug 7675 also involves talking to the Adobe LM service.
I'm trying to reproduce this using the trial version, but
it's hard to find. The official eastern europe / middle east
tryout download locate appears to be
http://www.winsoft.eu/support/download-adobe-acrobat.php
And using the greek version of Acrobat 7 trial from there,
I run into an installer bug, so I can't even try starting the app yet.

I believe this is the problem the OP is talking about.
It shouldn't be like this, it should be a "flat" blue/purple-colored circle
around the character's feet. More like the focus field now is displayed, but
'flat' instead of 3D.

I just upgraded from 0.9.34 to version 0.9.35 and immediately noticed that the
fonts used by Lotus Notes were all funny looking. Normally, the fonts are fine
looking using the Bitstream Vera, but in the new version they looked terrible.
When I backed off to 0.9.32 every thing looked normal. Perhaps true-type
support had suddenly stopped working?
I am using Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy.

Hope the subject is OK. Again, I know JRE 1.3.1 is EOL, but various programs
still ship with it, including one which I'd like to use with wine.
I found the problem after I solved bug 7881 with the patch provided by me when
setting visible a JFrame containing an JLabel.
I reduced the code as far as possible to the attached test case. When you
remove the comment marks it works, when you leave them there, it doesn't.
After I tested many font related methods, I'm sure the problem is somewhere in
getFontPtr in FontWrapper.cpp of the jre or in getStrike in fontObject.cpp .
Now I got stuck in debugging, as I don't know how to compile the JRE with
debug symbols under linux for windows.

This patch simply lets wine return the required flag. As I don't know what
functions exactly are ment with this flag, I wasn't able to check wether it's
OK to set the flag. At least the patch lets me open JFrame's. I wasn't able to
test more, as now I reached the next problem.

Some further investigation shows that using native wintrust.dll (and msasn1.dll)
gets this further, the issues are in crypt32.dll now.
Using native crypt32.dll, I'm getting an error in rpc.
Using native rpcrt4, it's trying to create an IO completion port. Wine doesn't
do that (see bug #6155).
Looks like getting iTunes to work will be a tough one.
Changing component to wine-misc, as there's no category for wintrust.

The patch wasn't intended to work for all programs. It works for the majority of
the programs. Though unfortunately this approach isn't acceptable by Alexandre
as it does things which aren't very nice. These things can't be fixed.
The only real way according to Alexandre is to more or less revert the X11
window management rewrite by giving each child window an X11 window. This is the
only way left and somehow this must be done but I doubt it will be done anytime
soon as this patch would then affect ALL programs on wine from notepad to
office, from winemine to halflife2.

This appears as a severe regression wrt 0.9.34, at least on Ubuntu 6.10:
Fonts have became extremely bad: almost unreadable.
In MDI, subwindows should get iconize, expand, and close buttons on their bar,
marked by the usual symbols. Rather, they get the buttons marked by weird letters.
(try for instance LTSpice, a free circuit simulator).

If like me you use TiMidity to play MIDI, especially with Wine, no MIDI would be
played back unless the application lets you pick what MIDI Mapper you want to
play back on (such as Noteworthy Composer, I can put the Wine Midi Mapper into
Disabled, and put one of the TiMidity options into Enabled). This is because the
Wine Midi Mapper takes preference over TiMidity.
Users should have option in winecfg to adjust the default playback/recording
device for each category (so it could also work for Wave playback for example).
This could be done with a button called Make Default, which makes the device the
default device for that category.
This way, I can set TiMidity to be the default device for MIDI playback, and
then I can play MIDI from all applications, not just ones that have the option
to set the playback device.
(The URL shows an application that is affected by this bug, if I was to set MIDI
playback in it, it would not play as it goes through the Wine MIDI).

The patch fixed the crash, Winword6 runs now quite smooth.
However, the setting in winecfg to use the native 16bit dlls for winword.exe is
still somehow bypassed. I will investigate and come back on this.

Having same problem with 0.9.35. It does play the "EA Sports: Challenge
Everything" intro, and the Maxis logo, and the SimCity 4 intro video, but then
it freezes. The console output was too large to include here, due to many
repeated sound buffer overrun errors, but most of it was the same as the last
one I posted. However, I did see this in the output; I don't know if it's relevant:
err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow 48 bytes in thread 0009 eip 008a197d esp
00240fd0 stack 0x241000-0x350000
I would be glad to help debug this, as I'd really like to not have to boot into
Windows to play SimCity. :)

Addendum:
When you fill the clipboard inside of Dreamweaver, which means in the design
view or the source code view, pasting works fine into the particular other view.
In other words:
Inside DW pasting works.
When you fill the clipboard inside any other application and paste it into the
design view, in some case the first letter - only that - appears as pasted content.
Meanwhile I updated to WINE 0.9.35.
All effects persist.
Did anybody of you tried to install DW under Crossover and can reproduce the effect?

The internal screenshot function fails to work, it's not really important since
you wouldn't notice it in the normal course of play. But I figured it was a bug
anyway.
In the output generated from loading it up, playing from a save, taking a few
screenshots and then closing the game. That seems to be the relevant bit, but
I've included the entire output.

I don't want to come off sounding like an idiot, but I'm not sure what you
mean by running a +font +relay session.
Oh, and I found the most consistent way to get this bug to show up is to
switch to the font tool, select the font in question (as you noticed, the
fonts should not show up) and then switch to another font. Every time I've
tried that, the program has died with an error (the same one I attached at the
beginning, in fact).

I tried copying ImpactLTStd.otf to c:/windows/fonts
and using that font in the Photoshop 6 Tryout text tool,
and though it doesn't crash, neither does Photoshop 6 display them
properly. It did advance to the next line when I hit
enter, but no pixels were darkened.
I'll attach the +font log. The following section
has a suspicious "Can't find table" warning:
trace:font:OpenFontFile
"/home/dank/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/fonts/ImpactLTStd.otf", 0, 0 x 100

Kelly, can you attach a +font,+relay log (probably compressed)
of the shortest session you can think of that exhibits the crash?
Thanks...

Debian packages a lot of parts of wine seperately, try libwine-alsa or
something (search for it), I tested it with my own pc, and both cards are
shown correctly.

If it was meant to report WINEALSA_mmap_crst, that one doesn't occur any more
since winealsa stopped using asynchronous callbacks. Closing it. If you want
to file a bug for ESD it should be done seperately.

It crashes after calling a d3dx9 function. I don't know if that crash is due
to the result of the matrix multiplication, but I doubt it. But this is the
only MatrixMultiply call done, so you may be lucky by setting a brakepoint at
the end of MatrixMultiply and single step from there to the crash.
Another thing I noticed is that you seem to run the game from Cedega's private
directory. Maybe it is missing some registry keys? Did you try to install it
in Wine?

Getting the same error, using wine-0.9.35. I'll hazard a guess that it's related
to wintrust, as it calls ExitProcess() right after the WinVerifyTrust call.
Probably we need to improve the stubs in wintrust.

During the installation of Solidworks 2006 sp0.0 the installer proposes to enter
the product serial number. But it is impossible to enter the serial number since
it looks like the maximal text length limit of the editbox is not respected
exactly; instead it allows you to enter one less character. Thus, you can't
proceed further with the installation.
I remember I have seen this somewhere else too, so it looks like a generic bug
(not solidworks-dependent).

Do do this. We do not support such configurations. Remove your ~/.wine

Biet-O-Mat is an eBay Snipper tool. It seams to install and run almost fine
except any new article gets an end date of 1907. I checked their source code and
they use 2 digit years (as on the eBay web Page). According to MS
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bbx05d0c(VS.80).aspx it should return
20xx for years between 00..30 (additionally the OS can check the International
Settings in the registry ([HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control
Panel\International\Calendars\TwoDigitYearMax] too). I think this is not done
here. I poked around in the Wine SW ./dlls/oleaut32/vartype.c function
VARIANT_MakeDate but I think this is not called from DateSerial(). So it must be
in some other places...
Logs can be provided upon request.
Thanks.

Hi,
I think I have seen the error in Google somewhere. I'm going to check again.
Inthe meantime I can offer to upload the .iso for testing to a closed
group. I don't think it can be downloaded for trial.
And I can offer to debug it myself, if I get enough help. I'm new to
wine. I know Linux for quite a while. I learned Programming more than 20
years ago (Pascal, Assembler). But I'm not up to speed regarding Windows
API, C++ (I'm doing more Perl, xHarbour, WinBatch, AutoIt, very little C
these days (much more 17 years ago).
If I match the signs correctly, Map&Guide and Falk have merged. One has
taken over the "low level" SW while the other is doing fleet SW. And
Navi's and so on. Just guess work. I have an older Navi SW from
Map&Guide, which looks 99.5 % the same, exept for the name...
Falk seams to sell the German version of Grosser Falk Reiseplaner (only
German). If you switch the language to English you can't find any signs
of the SW.
And thanks for the quick reply.

Summary: Regression in baldur gate 2 (panel blink and is not
refreshed anymore)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.35.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rapsys(a)free.fr
Hi,
I noticed a regression in baldur gate 2.
Since 0.9.28 to 0.9.34 it is completely broken and unusable.
In fact i noticed with a regression test that the following patch make this
regression :
[715d0e84097cb2dc07369c4e1cec8cf8a41e9035] winex11.drv: Correctly position and
clip opengl child windows.
Before, the panel in game (left, bottom, right) part is refreshed correctly
and mouse go over it, allowing to select the item, have over button
contextual, etc.
But after that patch that section is not refreshed (click in this section have
effect, but panel keep the same)
And it blink, making the game completely unusable.
plz take a look if you can.
ps : the X11/kde pointer is displayed on top of baldur gate pointer, but that
not realy a big bug as only cosmetic
ps2 : when the mouse cross blinking panel side the baldur pointer partialy
disappear (in the panel section)
ps3 : i didn't tested 0.3.35, but i don't think bug is fixed in it, but i will
when i have time to build

Summary: Dreamfall: speech gets skipped in dialogues
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.35.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Wouter_Cox(a)yahoo.co.uk
With wine 0.9.35, whenever there is dialogue (speech), there is no sound even
though the music works okay. It seems like the speech gets "skipped", this also
shortens the time between subtitles, making the game go too fast. In fact it
almost looks like a modest fast-forward.
How to reproduce: install Dreamfall from its disks, install the necessary files
for Dreamfall (see AppDB entry), run dreamfall.exe (no-cd patch) with wine
0.9.35, just play the game and watch any dialogue. The intro is very suitable
for this I think.
This problem was introduced in 0.9.35. I know I made a mistake with the other
bug, but I am sure that this problem was not there in 0.9.34. I try to test
Dreamfall with every official release of Wine.
I'm trying to see if I can do a regression test, but I have some problems
understanding exactly what to do after compiling.

Urs, we can't quite tell what's wrong from your
description and screen shot.
Oddly, the product doesn't seem to have a home page.
It is offered for 10 euros from

Can you reproduce this problem in an application that
is freely downloadable? That would make it easier
for us to see and fix.

Oblivion crashes when you try to open the Journal. This happens regardless of
opening it through the default key or through an alternate keybinding. Since you
need the journal for skill points and inventory, this makes playing the game
impossible.
Note that Oblivion won't start at all without dx9_27.dll from windows. So that
could have something to do with it. Additionally, it crashes unless you rename
the Video folder. Otherwise this is what stops it from working.

Hi,
I don't know if that may help, I have an ATI Radeon, I use the "radeon" driver
and I don't think I have the "SCIM" you are referring to, because neither a
"locate scim" or a "rpm -qa | grep 'scim'" is giving me any result.
Note: I originally filed this bug for version 0.9.29, but I tried the latest
package for Mandrake, 0.9.30, and and problem persists. I tried compiling 0.9.35
from source, but it filled up my hard drive!...and I was getting some warnings
at "./configure", so I'm really not sure it would have worked anyway.

What comment 8 talks about is completely wrong. You have to copy _full_ content
of ~/.wine/drive_c there if you want it to work. Of course if you have real
windows there it means destroying it.
And of course it talks about something totally unrelated to this bug.
What seems to happen is ntfs-3g doesn't support the mmap Excel requests (shared
write access)! And Wine can't do anything here. The only solution - don't use ntfs.

Printscreen with the input fields "Station" and "Berechnen"
Under plain Windows if you start to enter a towns name into Station it is
searching for the next similar town and usually presents a List of possible
towns in a tree view.
First I thought it's due to some missing ODBC stuff, but it accespts Town names
in "Suchbegriff eingeben" (enter Search text), and it even displays the same
tree view. So I think ODBC is ok.
The log from the perl script doesn't tell me too much. I might need some more
help on this.

I know a litlle of C if someone can give me pointers on how to check thinsg I'm

I think I have seen similar issues in other programs, but did not see a solution

Dump with +file,+ntll trying to load program from ntfs-3g filesystem
I have the same problem. I mount my Windows C: drive as /windows/C with ntfs-3g
(all under OpenSuse 10.2).
I realized that Wine does not automatically mount the /windows/C directory as a
windows file. So I went into winecfg and edited the Drives to add /windows/C as
the E: drive. Now when I try to open the file, it doesn't have a problem
finding the .exe. However, it does crap out later because it cannot find DLLs.
I couldn't find anyway to tell Wine to add other paths for DLL searching. I've
attached a dump with +file,+ntdll.
I also noticed that after doing all this, if I open up winecfg again, my E:
drive is gone, and I have to keep adding it back by hand.
I'm new to Wine, so apologies if some of the side-issues (DLL path, winecfg
changes not 'sticking') above are known issues.

Fuqid with version wine_0.9.23~winehq0~ubuntu~6.06-1_i386.deb
hangs after displaying a splash screen "Fuqid is starting up ..."
which only lasts a few seconds with version 0.9.22
I'll try to get the source code for 0.9.22 and check the changes.
(I have not used git before, it might take me some time)

Does the problem occur in the trial? If so, perhaps someone else can do the
regression testing.

Harry, can you attach or send me the source code and executable for

the problem was introduced between
wine 0.9.29 (2007-01-09)
and wine 0.9.30 (2007-01-25)
wine 0.9.29 works fine and .30 has the problem
I am a little bit scared to do further regression testing now, but maybe I'll
look deeper into this tonight :)
and by the way the problem is still present in wine 0.9.35

btw, I noticed that test case 0 in test_profile_int,
does not work anymore with current cvs.
This remains true after applying my patch.
iirc it originally worked with dlls/kernel32/profile.c revision 1.4,
against which I made the patch.

And, if that doesn't help, try running winecfg and setting wine
to emulate Windows NT instead of Windows 2000.
Tried it, no go. Same error.
What VB app is this? What version of VB does it use?
Sorry, I thought the compiler was gone. Found it, VB 4.0.
Is a trial version of the app available?
Just a small program I wrote long ago. Generates radom passwords. You want it I will send.
Thanks.

Created an attachment (id=5758)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=5758&action=view)
in-depth crash analysis of TOPO 4.x binary
Hello,
seems there is no demo/trial from website available, so i downloaded the
"upgrade" from http://maps.nationalgeographic.com/TOPO/
Though the upgrade requires 4.x full version installed, i "convinced" the
installer to work.
Analysis would be too large to post here, so i refer to problematic code
snippets here.
To see in-depth analysis scratch pad, consult the attachment.
Basically it's a combination of wine bug in common dialog (printing) module and
the way the application is coded (error handling).
The application makes heavy use of MFC 7.x (native dlls).
--- snip pseudo app code ---
CPageSetupDialog dlg( PSD_RETURNDEFAULT | PSD_NOWARNING, NULL);
if(dlg.DoModal() != IDOK)
return;
--- snip pseudo app code ---
Returns on both platforms (windows and wine) "IDOK".
Printer subsystems dlls are loaded on demand (in DoModal() call)
The next snippet is the culprit:
--- snip pseudo app code ---
if( pThis->m_hDevMode != NULL)
{
::GlobalFree( pThis->m_hDevMode);
}
if( pThis->m_hDevNames != NULL)
{
::GlobalFree( pThis->m_hDevMode);
}
pThis->m_hDevMode = m_psd.hDevMode;
pThis->m_hDevNames = m_psd.hDevNames;
pThis->m_Name = dlg.GetDeviceName();
// fill in pThis->PrinterCapsData1...4
get_device_caps_from_printer_dc( dlg);
PDEVMODEA* pDevMode = ::GlobalLock( pThis->m_hDevMode);
// crash here deref NULL ptr
pDevMode->dmOrientation = (pThis->IsPortraitOrientation != 0) ?
DMORIENT_PORTRAIT : DMORIENT_LANDSCAPE;
--- snip pseudo app code ---
The application expects PAGESETUPDLG data structure (subclassed data member) to
be correctly filled in when doing CPageSetupDialog::DoModal() + dlgResult ==
IDOK.
But neither m_psd.hDevMode nor m_psd.hDevNames have meaningful values in wine
(NULL ptr).
Even the "query default printer" does not return any printers/data to client at
all.
Windows returns valid struct handles (e.g. filled DEVMODEA and DEVNAMES).
The application dies on first dereference of one of these data pointers after
locking the handles (pDevMode->dmOrientation).
Of course one can argue its bad error handling to rely on data being valid all
the time (even "fallback/default" case).
Armed with this knowledge, i put additional trace code into wine and found the
cause.
--- snip dlls/comdlg32/printdlg.c ---
BOOL WINAPI PageSetupDlgA(LPPAGESETUPDLGA setupdlg)
{
.....
/* Initialize default printer struct. If no printer device info is specified
retrieve the default printer data. */
memset(&pdlg,0,sizeof(pdlg));
pdlg.lStructSize = sizeof(pdlg);
if (setupdlg->hDevMode && setupdlg->hDevNames) {
pdlg.hDevMode = setupdlg->hDevMode;
pdlg.hDevNames = setupdlg->hDevNames;
} else {
pdlg.Flags = PD_RETURNDEFAULT;
bRet = PrintDlgA(&pdlg);
if (!bRet){
if (!(setupdlg->Flags & PSD_NOWARNING)) {
char errstr[256];
LoadStringA(COMDLG32_hInstance, PD32_NO_DEFAULT_PRINTER,
errstr, 255);
MessageBoxA(setupdlg->hwndOwner, errstr, 0, MB_OK |
MB_ICONERROR);
}
return FALSE;
}
}
....
}
--- snip dlls/comdlg32/printdlg.c ---
The culprit is: if an application (win32 code, MFC ...) calls PageSetupDlgA()
with hDevMode and hDevNames both NULL ("give me default one") it *expects*
something usefull if PrintDlgA() dlgResult == ok.
To fix this, copy devmode/devname structure handles for client use.
--- snip dlls/comdlg32/printdlg.c ---
BOOL WINAPI PageSetupDlgA(LPPAGESETUPDLGA setupdlg)
{
.....
/* Initialize default printer struct. If no printer device info is specified
retrieve the default printer data. */
memset(&pdlg,0,sizeof(pdlg));
pdlg.lStructSize = sizeof(pdlg);
if (setupdlg->hDevMode && setupdlg->hDevNames) {
pdlg.hDevMode = setupdlg->hDevMode;
pdlg.hDevNames = setupdlg->hDevNames;
} else {
pdlg.Flags = PD_RETURNDEFAULT;
bRet = PrintDlgA(&pdlg);
if (!bRet){
if (!(setupdlg->Flags & PSD_NOWARNING)) {
char errstr[256];
LoadStringA(COMDLG32_hInstance, PD32_NO_DEFAULT_PRINTER,
errstr, 255);
MessageBoxA(setupdlg->hwndOwner, errstr, 0, MB_OK |
MB_ICONERROR);
}
return FALSE;
}
// FIX: there was no input hDevMode and hDevNames: give it to client!
setupdlg->hDevMode = pdlg.hDevMode;
setupdlg->hDevNames = pdlg.hDevNames;
}
....
}
-- snip dlls/comdlg32/printdlg.c ---
With this fix, the app doesnt crash anymore - though it exits later (due to my
upgrade-hack -> no full version avail -> incomlete install)
It could be possible that this one might "heal" related printing setup bug
reports/crashes too.
Regards

Can you confirm that you don't see a failure in the test,
but a crash? Can you trace where that crash happens?
Thanks

Peter Oberndorfer made a patch to work around the crash here:
http://repo.or.cz/w/wine/kumbayo.git?a=commitdiff;h=a984f711bc7057cc79ac02f…
With the patch the crash is gone, however it runs into another bug complaing
about something went wrong in cruntime libraries. The most annoying thing is
it's impossible to get a proper +relay,+seh trace, as then it crashes again in
the first way. Hopefully that bug can be fixed, so it's possible to get some
debuginfo...
