Summary: The Spirit Engine unplayable due to bug in
dlls/kernel32/profile.c
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sick_soul(a)yahoo.it
The Spirit Engine is not playable with plain wine,
since save/load functionality does not work, due to a defect in
dlls/kernel32/profile.c .
The bug has been already analyzed and fixed, but the patch never got in.
I file this bugreport as remainder for anyone interested in committing this fix.
The patch includes new tests.

And, if that doesn't help, try running winecfg and setting wine
to emulate Windows NT instead of Windows 2000.
What VB app is this? What version of VB does it use?
Is a trial version of the app available?

i found some info in this page:http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-fc6.html
Quote:
Issue with localhost
In /etc/hosts, the following entry for localhost using IPv6 can be removed:
::1 localhost.localdomain localhost
If you choose to remove the above IPv6 entry, then you must keep the following
IPv4 entry for localhost:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
Some applications may have problems with this (Gnome).
end Quote
So this points to a bug in fedora. On the other hand,(though native ws2_32 is
supposed to not work in wine), just for fun i tried:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ws2_32=n" wine FreddiKelp.exe
and after installation the game starts just fine. So looks like native ws2_32
handles this just fine in wine. Anyone with socketknowlege could enlighten me on
this?

Maybe I treated these bugs:
1) msvcrt issues
2) wineconsole issues
3) locale handling issues
as one metabug. I think there is no point to fix them independently.

Looks like it is the same bug.
http://www.winehq.com/site/docs/winedev-guide/c3750 says that wine doesn't /
isn't supposed to use XInitThreads() so commenting it out should be fine. It is
rumored that it was put in for testing. Incidentally and I forgot to mention I
only have this scim problem on an old ATI Rage Mobility P/M 16MB card using the
X11 "ati" driver. My other computers have nVidia 440MX and 6800 cards; they all
work fine with proprietary drivers, of course.

I had this problem on a Dell Omnibook 4150B with Fedora 7 test3 installed. Wine
programs would open, e.g. notepad, blank or not-responding. winecfg would take a
very long time. The quickfix was to right-click on the Scim icon in the
upper-right of the Gnome desktop and choose Exit. Going to read up on scim a bit
before I say anything about it...

down through Windows 98 but with no luck.
I am using Ubuntu 6.10 32 bit on a 64 bit processor
my wine version is wine-0.9.34
Following is my gcc version info:

One interesting note is wine worked before with Topo but I think I might have
installed some other programs/libraries that might be causing this problem. As
to what those libraries and programs may have been I do not know.
I uninstalled and reconfigured/recompiled wine but the problem still remains.
I also uninstalled and re-installed topo but the problem remains.

Scar Divi both work fine, except for the most important part!
The mouse won't click!
This program is a macroing program - you can program it to automatically do jobs.
However, the mouse won't click, and this stops most practical use of this program.
A way to solve this may be that whenever there is a mouse event in Wine, you
simply execute it in Linux.

The problem is that we don't handle custom action type 23 [1]. This action
installs a package that exists in the source tree. I've written a patch that
implements this, but I'm going to write tests for it before sending it in.

There is special utility called 'mode' in Windows.
I can select output locale:

I think it would solve many problems if similiar tool will be implemented in

Works fine here.. Never broke, although the process seems a little slower than
before. Once the file copy finishes, it takes about 30 seconds before it brings
up the dialog to setup shortcuts, etc... Used to be instantaneous. Either way,
like I said works for me.. Closing

First of all are you sure that the Warcraft editor is using OpenGL for graphics
and not Direct3D? I ask this because this patch only helps in case of OpenGL.
The plan is to move Direct3D over to the win32 opengl code when opengl32 is
stable. When that's the case it can help Direct3D too but not right now.

I know its soooo dirty but for those people that doesnt know how to fix this:
I copied the DLL:
cp OS/SYSTEM/ACCWIZ.DLL /home/pcbsd/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/Accwiz.dll
I installed the MSOffice97 program (I tried this with all wine 0.9.3x and win98/xp):
wine SETUP.EXE
--->Some errors given and ignored.
As Accwiz.dll shows me a little window telling me that the dll cant register
himself, I used a command to register it manually:
wine regsrv32.exe Accwiz.dll (from Accwiz.dll folder in system32)
Once all its done, I had to run more than twice the WINWORD.EXE (ie) in order to
stop warnings (the first one was about missing files, the second one about
serial problem and the third one about..dunno)
Up to the third time I run it, goes perfectly.

Hello again,
some update and possible solution :)
Seems i misinterpreted returned X11DRV_GetAsyncKeyState() flag field.
First call to X11DRV_GetAsyncKeyState() returns "rbutton down seen" (key is
pressed + key got pressed since last time).
All consecutive calls to X11DRV_GetAsyncKeyState() return "rbutton down seen"
(key is pressed).
No up state is reached/seen.
After putting additional debugging code and trace messages it became obvious.
--- trace ---
trace:event:process_events ButtonPress for hwnd/window 0x10024/3a00001
trace:cursor:X11DRV_send_mouse_input before: (2) -> 0

....
trace:key:X11DRV_GetAsyncKeyState before: (2) -> ffff8000
trace:key:X11DRV_GetAsyncKeyState after: (2) -> ffff8000
...
--- trace ---
The problematic code is X11DRV_GetAsyncKeyState().
--- snip dlls/winex11.drv/keyboard.c ---
SHORT X11DRV_GetAsyncKeyState(INT key)
{
SHORT retval;
X11DRV_MsgWaitForMultipleObjectsEx( 0, NULL, 0, QS_KEY, 0 );
retval = ((key_state_table[key] & 0x40) ? 0x0001 : 0) |
((key_state_table[key] & 0x80) ? 0x8000 : 0);
key_state_table[key] &= ~0x40;
TRACE_(key)("(%x) -> %x\n", key, retval);
return retval;
}
--- snip dlls/winex11.drv/keyboard.c ---
Looking at the pseudo code from my posting earlier and you will know.
The application basically "busy loops" using GetAsyncKeyState().
That means GetAsyncKeyState() has to handle not only keyboard but mouse button
events too!
In short: X11DRV_MsgWaitForMultipleObjectsEx( 0, NULL, 0, QS_KEY ...) is not
enough, it filters out mouse button state messages (button down/up).
Modify the filter to "QS_KEY | QS_MOUSEBUTTON" (dont use QS_ALLINPUT!)
--- snip dlls/winex11.drv/keyboard.c ---
SHORT X11DRV_GetAsyncKeyState(INT key)
{
SHORT retval;
X11DRV_MsgWaitForMultipleObjectsEx( 0, NULL, 0, QS_KEY | QS_MOUSEBUTTON, 0 );
retval = ((key_state_table[key] & 0x40) ? 0x0001 : 0) |
((key_state_table[key] & 0x80) ? 0x8000 : 0);
key_state_table[key] &= ~0x40;
TRACE_(key)("(%x) -> %x\n", key, retval);
return retval;
}
--- snip dlls/winex11.drv/keyboard.c ---
Now it handles mouse button input too - which updates the key_state_table used
by X11DRV_GetAsyncKeyState().
I tested with photoshop 5.5 tril and it worked like a charm, lockup gone,
context menu shows up on right mouse click :)
If any other applications/versions suffer from this one, please retest it using
this workaround.
Regards.

Both Wine 0.9.33 and 0.9.34 have this problem. I believe this problem was
introduced in either Wine 0.9.32 or 0.9.33 (sorry I did not keep notes when it
changed).
Currently I am using 0.9.34 currently and this happens in all menus as well as

As a workaround, setting the windows version to win98 (for this application)
solves this problem and allows the application to function. (Perhaps this
provides the necessary information for someone to work out what's wrong here?)

I suppose that's because it doesn't get to the point where it checks the

Summary: Photoshop 6 or 7 layers tab drawn without buttons
initially
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.tucows.com/get/214261_90608
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
(This was mentioned in passing as part of bug 4729.)
To reproduce: In Photoshop 6 or 7 (and other versions as well),
open with default settings, and look at the bottom of the layer
panel on the right side of the screen.
There should be buttons there, but there aren't any!
They reappear when you toggle that panel to a different mode briefly
by clicking Windows / Show Paths and then Windows / Show Layers,
or by clicking on the Paths tab and then the Layers tab.
(I haven't verified those buttons are present when running on MS Windows,
but it seems likely.)

Sound problems found in wine 0.9.31-->0.9.34. Not sure if my problem is
completly related to the bug report but I am adding my comment here rather
than opening a new bug report incase it has bearing.
When playing the game Diablo II, I have problems with the sound being
corrupted. It sounds like the sound drivers are hanging causing a short burst
of sound to be repeated over and over again. This usually occurs within the
first 10 minutes of play.
I first noticed the problem with wine-0.9.31. It was present in 0.9.32, I
didn't test 0.9.33, but did test 0.9.34. Reverting wine back to 0.9.30 removes
the sound problem.
I run 2.6.19-gentoo-r5 kernel in a gentoo distribution, with KDE as my
desktop.
Alsa-lib and Alsa headers are version 1.0.13
Alsa compiled into kernel.
Here is my use flag list for wine
alsa, arts, cups, dbus,hal, jpeg, ldap,ncurses,opengl, scanner,X, and xml.
Compiler is GCC-4.1.1-r3.
when I compiled wine in versions 0.9.31,and 0.9.32 use flag list was the same
except i didn't have scanner active.

The system is not entirely locked. I can see occasional disk access.
I tried running in windowed mode with a tail -f of the log in a prompt beside
the game. When the game hung the last line of the log was never displayed in the
prompt, but it was written to disk. Also; that last line in the log appears to
me to describe a deadlock in wine code related to x11. Is this consistent with
the bug being in a driver?

The trace in comment 13 shows that the only thread
that isn't sleeping is calling GetSystemMetrics.
This is completely consistent with bug 7909, which
was in photoshop 5 and 5.5. To reproduce, just
start photoshop, do File / New, and then right click
in the Layers window on the new image's one layer.
Do other folks agree that bug 7909 is a duplicate of this one?
(Bug 7909 is much more clearly written, so I'm not sure
I want to close it...)

Fuqid hangs after displaying the window "Fuqid is starting up"

To follow the discussion, look at

Basically wprintf->vsnwprintf->fwrite->_write->WriteFile->WriteConsoleA
ie a Unicode string gets written out as ANSI, ie the nulls between the

1. If I do 'LC_ALL=C wineconsole --backend=user cmd /K xcopy /?' I see the
spaced chars you mention. If I do 'wine cmd /K xcopy /?' if outputs ok - Can
you confirm this is true for you
- It would appear wprintf in a user backend does not like unicode
2. If you do wine cmd /K dir, do the characters appear ok? Are the chars in
the listing below actually russian characters (ie not a-z etc), the first file
appears ok which is one I assume is pure a-z 0-9?
- This would see if the problem is actually the same as (1)
3. Since I dont know Russian, any thoughts on how to create a file with
russian characters and set my locale in a window so I can recreate that part
here?

/* Convert eg. ..\fred to include a directory by removing file part */
GetFullPathName(param1, sizeof(pathtosearch), pathtosearch, NULL);
lastSlash = strrchr(pathtosearch, '\\');
if (lastSlash && strchr(lastSlash, '.') != NULL) extensionsupplied = TRUE;
if (lastSlash) *lastSlash = 0x00;
strcpy(stemofsearch, lastSlash+1);
basically, setting *ptr to 0x00 then doing a strchr on it isnt likely to
work... oops!

Hello,
can't reproduce the crash using "osF1.0.2.1Full.exe" from sourceforge and recent
wine 0.9.34 snapshot (wine-0.9.34-203-gaa12152).
Did you run/configured the firebird database installer in osFinalcials install
directory?
Additionally you need to put a native copy of "MSVCP60.dll" into system32
directory or some database client components wont work (gds32.dll).
Please post exact steps how to reproduce this crash.
If possible use a fresh wine checkout from git repository.

It used to work two years ago, Wine versions that old don't compile on my
system anymore. But there's a different error now, anyway (didn't try Cyborg
in a long time). Wine doesn't seem to crash, there are some OpenGL-related
errors, and the application just crashes. The keyboard error seems to be gone,
though, so I'll close this bug...

The error you probably seeing is copy-protection related. With demo (or no-cd

for multi-threaded d3d.
Besides most crashes related to multi-threaded d3d do not look the same. Of
course you can attach it here just for record.

Patch has been committed.
Unfortunately, this bug is hard to test for because it only affects the way the
calendar is rendered. I might be able to use the hit test to detect this bug,
but that requires a few other fixes to monthcal.

Some how Jason morphed this bug into something it was not.
This bug referred to the "mouse centers on the application window and is unable
to move". Which _is_ duplicate of 1410.
Create new bug that talks about the "hot key". It would probably by unresolved
or for a long long time, as it will require complete rewrite of the way Wine
receives mouse and keyboard events from X.
Closing.

If either tv or tz is NULL, the corresponding structure is not set or returned.
So at least on Linux (POSIX.1-2001 does not talk about settimeofday) this is

Yes, it seems there's a few things going on here. Ventrilo and (for instance)
World of Warcraft cannot communicate in seperate X windows. If I use them in
the same virtual desktop, they work fine UNLESS DirectInput is checked. So, it
works to an extent. I suppose this means that wine is functioning properly,
minus potentially the DirectInput part. Using DInput to capture the hotkey
works in Windows, so maybe I should file another bug, since this one has been
screwed with for so long, messing with problems that aren't really related to
the description now that 1410 is fixed.

Start SmartBarXP, go into options, properties. Then in the top right, click the
link that says Advanced. Then try to scroll the left column up or down and
nothing happens. Then try changing any of the the options on the right side.
Nothing happens, same for selecting tabs on the right when you are in a pane's
properties. You can however change what option set you are seeing, because you
can change your selection in the left side, but like I said, you cant scroll,
either with the mouse or keyboard....
I don't have a log because I dont know what winedebug options to try..

Add the very popular (at least in the past) Panzer General Scorched Earth to the
list. I can't vouch for this one myself, but another tester has marked it as
such in appdb. If this is the case, it also seems to effect European Air War and
Fighter Squadron, as all three games fail with the same behavior on my machine,
specifically, the game "works" but the 2D menu displays remain black.

I tried the demo of that zork game and followed the tutorial but it crashes here
for me. Second I don't think the game is using OpenGL but only ddraw/d3d as I
don't see it in WINEDEBUG=+loaddll (ddraw is there) and in the rest of the
directory I don't see traces of it either.
If my observations are correct it won't help this game. You need to wait till
WineD3D is ported over to WGL and when this patch is Wine. Then it could work.
