there is no difference in behaviour between win98 and win2000.

I see - thank you very much for explanation.
I have only one more question - is this circular reference
can be a reason why this game dosen't start at all-loppoing between config
dialog ? Or this is only issue with GLXBadDrawable without any relation
to what is happening with this particular app ?

There are some tests for TB_ADDBITMAP and they show that this message doesn't
reset the icon size according to the bitmap but resizes the bitmap according to
the icon size. However the problem was in CreateToolbarEx - the author was very
helpful to tell me that it's how he creates the toolbar. After introducing a
Windows bug into Wine CreateToolbarEx this program works.

the bug. What I know is that before I had crashes using ALSA.
Now I don't have any more crashes with the latest versions of Wine, if only they
could fix the buffer DSOUND underrun bug now that would be perfect.
I would consider bug 5390 to be fixed. Fixing bug 1631 is the important thing now."

Hi!
I installed 0.9.33 and the problem is still present (Suse 10.2).
I solved the problem by copying the ttf-tamoha-font to ~/drive_c/windows/fonts.
After several tries I created a new folder "fonts" and put the font in there.
Suddenly it worked for me... hm.

expect it to do, and what it does instead. You can typically ignore fixme

I verified with some executables with my tools further: different msvcrt library
signatures are found.
They did not only mix different runtime versions but release and debug version too.
The developers have obviously no clue that *all* kinds of errors are introduced
by mixing this stuff (not only different heap manager/layout related ones!)
Even microsoft strongly discourages this.
My guess: they have some unresolved issues/bugs in their crap^H^H^H^Hsoftware
which only manifests if they compile all to release code (thats why some of
their executables are compiled with optimization off/debug).
I've seen this kind of "fix" several times in customer code.
I wouldnt spend any more time on this software until they resolve these issues...
Regards

Yes, this is a refcounting issue.
SetFVF creates a vertex declaration for the fvf, but it incorrectly AddRefs
the d3d9device. This creates a circular reference and the device isn't freed
properly.
I made a fix for that some time ago, but it was incorrect and I didn't have
time to persue fixing that yet.

The problem is, the application does not seem to load any libraries called
msvcrt.dll or msvcirt.dll. I don't know if it incorporates those libraries or
parts of them in its own libraries or if it has them statically linked to the
binary. Anyway, I can't think of a way to circumvent the problem.

Ok, no multithreaded Direct3D. Good.
It seems that there are 2 different wined3d devices used in the same thread.
This is not handled yet. The problem that arises is that each device uses its
own opengl context, and only one context can be active at a time.
We have to keep track of the last active device in a thread local storage and
check it before activating the context. For context creation we should leave
the newly created context active unless a different context is used instead of
blindly activating the old context.
It is also strange that activating the old context fails, and not using it.
Maybe it is a reference counting problem, and the old device should be
destroyed. Can you attach a +d3d9 trace?

Will this behavior be permanent? It worked just fine in 0.9.31 (no need for
virtual desktop or anything). In .32 and above (when I try to start Theme
Hospital) I just get "Failed to initialise VRES256 screen" after it tries to go
fullscreen, along with this:
fixme:xrandr:X11DRV_XRandR_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 8

Hello
--- snip ---
fixme:mpr:WNetGetUniversalNameA ("C:\\PROGRAM
FILES\\KOBOLD\\SHOAI.80\\KLM\\KLM.mdb", 0x00000001, 0x34f82c, 0x34fc38): stub
--- snip ---
This fixme could probably solved by deferring work to WNetGetUniversalNameW().
You just need to convert input ansi params to unicode, pass it to "W" version
and convert back to ansi after WNetGetUniversalNameW() returns successfully.
Implementation is easy: you can copy the code from dlls/mpr/wnet.c
:WNetGetConnectionA() for this (same mechanism).
When working on it, fix some buggy code parts in WNetGetConnectionA() before
"reusing" the code:
--- snip dlls/mpr/wnet.c ----
DWORD WINAPI WNetGetConnectionA( LPCSTR lpLocalName,
LPSTR lpRemoteName, LPDWORD lpBufferSize )
{
...
else if (ret == WN_MORE_DATA)
{
PWSTR wideRemote = HeapAlloc(GetProcessHeap(), 0,
wideRemoteSize * sizeof(WCHAR));
if (wideRemote)
{
ret = WNetGetConnectionW(wideLocalName, wideRemote,
&wideRemoteSize);
if (ret == WN_SUCCESS)
{
// *** BUG: following call was missing before "len" check
int len = WideCharToMultiByte(CP_ACP, 0, wideRemote,
-1, NULL, 0, NULL, NULL);
if (len <= *lpBufferSize)
{
// *** BUG: "wideRemoteStatic" should be "wideRemote"
WideCharToMultiByte(CP_ACP, 0, wideRemoteStatic,
-1, lpRemoteName, *lpBufferSize, NULL, NULL);
ret = WN_SUCCESS;
}
else
{
*lpBufferSize = len;
ret = WN_MORE_DATA;
}
}
...
--- snip dlls/mpr/wnet.c ----

Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2

I followed instructions according to
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=5342 .
On the first run of pol.exe, I only get a black window. I can hear the
PlayOnline music going, and when I drag my mouse around the window, I can hear
the sound effect for the cursor changing selections. After dragging the mouse
around a bit, the window crashes.

if(oldDrawable && oldCtx) {
TRACE("oldDrawable is %p\n", oldDrawable);
TRACE("oldCtx is %p\n",oldCtx);
glXMakeCurrent(display, oldDrawable, oldCtx);
}
And I've attached the log with the line glxMakeCurrent uncommented = previous one
was with this line commented out.

apparently COMDLG32_SetCommDlgExtendedError(0) is missing in Wine - at least I
can't find it in http://source.winehq.org/source/dlls/comdlg32/filedlg.c, but
it is possible that I am too C agnostic for recognizing it.
Moreover my Win98 Test system hasn't a defualt printer either and neither that
system nor Wine with the native comdlg32.dll (from Win98SE) produces that
error.
So it might be worthwhile to try to add a COMDLG32_SetCommDlgExtendedError(0)
at the right spot and hope that it does heal that minor problem without
breaking the code somewhere else ... but who can do that?
regards
Bernhard

Was that trace done with the crashing line built in? I don't think so,
otherwise I'd see a crash in it I think. Can you compile the crashing
glxMakeCurrent line in again?
Otherwise, this came to my eyes:
trace:d3d:CreateContext oldDrawable is 79691784
trace:d3d:CreateContext oldCtx is 2080949504
...
trace:d3d:CreateContext oldDrawable is 0x4c00008
trace:d3d:CreateContext oldCtx is 0x7c08c4f8
2080949504 is 7c08c500 hex. What lines did you add for tracing? It seems
strange that once it is decimal, one hexadecimal.

Hello,
--- quote ---
the next problem is
wine: Call from 0x7ee69320 to unimplemented function
setupapi.dll.InstallCatalog, aborting
(while running C:\cbad88ac07732ab58f3d0c87\update\update.exe)
Oddly, http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa469375.aspx claims
this function isn't even implemented. But I gather back in
win2000 days it actually did stuff.
--- quote ---
I checked my XP system, the function is exported from setupapi, internally
aliased to "OldInstallCatalog( ... )"
It doesnt do any good, seems abandoned by M$.
I think it's safe to add an empty stub implementation to keep it happy.
--- snip stub ---
DWORD InstallCatalog( LPCTSTR CatalogFullPath, LPCTSTR NewBaseName, LPTSTR
NewCatalogFullPath)
{
TRACE( catalogfullpath_param);
return 0;
}
--- snip stub ---
Ironically "pSetupInstallCatalog()" which superseeds "InstallCatalog" is claimed
"no longer supported" too :)

Anastasius's patch
Hey, that worked great! With both Hans' and Anastasius' patches,
the installer gets a lot further; the next problem is
wine: Call from 0x7ee69320 to unimplemented function
setupapi.dll.InstallCatalog, aborting
(while running C:\cbad88ac07732ab58f3d0c87\update\update.exe)
Oddly, http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa469375.aspx claims
this function isn't even implemented. But I gather back in
win2000 days it actually did stuff.
But the main installer thinks it completed ok.
For the record, when I try to start the app now, I get
fixme:mpr:WNetGetUniversalNameA ("C:\\PROGRAM
FILES\\KOBOLD\\SHOAI.80\\KLM\\KLM.mdb", 0x00000001, 0x34f82c, 0x34fc38): stub
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {6c736db1-bd94-11d0-8a23-00aa00b58e10} not
registered
and then a dialog
Lizenzdatenbank nicht vorhanden!
and when you try to use the File menu, it puts up a null pointer error dialog.
Oddly, installing mdac-2.7 makes the File menu stay up after that dialog.
But if you install mdac-2.7 before installing the app, you see
one more install problem:
a dialog saying roughly "error in data source shaoai_access",
right before the update.exe that crashes.

Applying this patch under 0.9.33 (by running `patch -p0 <freetype.patch`) does
not fix this issue for me. I am still seeing colored rectangles instead of text.
On the console, I get lots of
err:d3d9:IDirect3DDevice9Impl_StretchRect Texture filters not supported yet
messages.

Hello,
it was a bit difficult to track down but i think i found it ...
used: WINEDEBUG=+loaddll,+seh,+advapi,+ntdll,+relay
--- snip trace ---
trace:ntdll:RtlMakeSelfRelativeSD 0x477a74 0x477a14 0x34fa00(0)

trace:seh:raise_exception eax=00003d69 ebx=7bc7ae4c ecx=00000000 edx=00000024
esi=00003d68 edi=00477a74
trace:seh:raise_exception ebp=0034f954 esp=0034f930 cs=0073 ds=007b es=007b
fs=0033 gs=003b flags=00210206
--- snip trace ---
RtlLengthSid() param doesnt look like valid SID pointer
It gets called by following code snippet in RtlLengthSecurityDescriptor():
------ snip ntdll/sec.c:RtlLengthSecurityDescriptor ---
if ( lpsd->Owner != NULL )
Size += RtlLengthSid((PSID)((LPBYTE)lpsd->Owner + offset));
------ snip ntdll/sec.c:RtlLengthSecurityDescriptor ---
"lpsd->Owner" isnt setup correctly or memory corruption somewhere.
So we need to evaluate how the SD is init (SD=0x477a74)
A while earlier the following call sequence shows up in trace:
--- snip trace ---
0009:Call
advapi32.MakeAbsoluteSD(00477a14,00000000,0034f9bc,00000000,0034f9c0,00000000,0034f9c4,00000000,0034f9c8,00000000,0034f9cc)
ret=00443e4d
0009:Ret advapi32.MakeAbsoluteSD() retval=00000000 ret=00443e4d
0009:Call
advapi32.MakeAbsoluteSD(00477a14,00477a74,0034f9bc,00477a8c,0034f9c0,00000000,0034f9c4,00000000,0034f9c8,00000000,0034f9cc)
ret=00443e4d
0009:Ret advapi32.MakeAbsoluteSD() retval=00000001 ret=00443e4d
--- snip trace ---
The first call is ok. The client app uses it to determine real out buffer length.
The second call is our one.
After adding lots of additional trace code, it boils down to the following:
---- snip ntdll/sec.c:RtlSelfRelativeToAbsoluteSD ---
...
/* Copy structures */
pAbs->Revision = pRel->Revision;
pAbs->Control = pRel->Control & ~SE_SELF_RELATIVE;
...
if (pRel->Owner)
{
PSID psid = (PSID)((LPBYTE)pRel->Owner + (ULONG)pRel);
TRACE("pAbs->Owner=%p, pOwner=%p, pRel->Owner=%p, psid=
%p\n",pAbs->Owner , pOwner, pRel->Owner, psid);
memcpy(pOwner, psid, RtlLengthSid(psid));
pAbs->Owner = pOwner;
TRACE("pAbs->Owner=%p, RtlLengthSid(psid)=%d\n", pAbs->Owner,
RtlLengthSid(psid));
}
---- snip ntdll/sec.c:RtlSelfRelativeToAbsoluteSD ---
The problem is the client didnt set all the relative SD fields.
Example: "pRel->Owner" == NULL -> owner and other SD stuff doesnt get copied.
Now guess: the client didnt initialize the "out" param absolute SD structure -
of course it isnt required to do so.
Basically the absolute SD (including "pAbs->Owner") is allocated by client app
somewhere and passed down uninitialized to wine api call.
Later when a call to RtlMakeSelfRelativeSD() is made, the data gets accessed
again, leading to access violation.
Solution: initialize all pointer fields to zero if you're not going to fill it
with relative SD data.
I fixed and tested with following:
---- snip ntdll/sec.c:RtlSelfRelativeToAbsoluteSD ---
...
/* Copy structures */
pAbs->Revision = pRel->Revision;
pAbs->Control = pRel->Control & ~SE_SELF_RELATIVE;
/* reset !!! */
pAbs->Sacl = NULL;
pAbs->Dacl = NULL;
pAbs->Owner = NULL;
pRel->Group = NULL;
...
if( blah)
---- snip ntdll/sec.c:RtlSelfRelativeToAbsoluteSD ---
Now the tool "registryset.exe" runs and finishes without errors.
Regards

Ok as requested the latest log showing traced
oldDrawable and oldCtx is attached.
Regarding looping - I belive it has something to do with screen mode
requested. It might look that game is saving some setting from config dialog
but somehow it's unable to get the requested screen mode and again it's calling
config dialog. Similar issue in TR Legend - no matter what the app is unable
to store video setting and at each startup I have to select it by hand ...
In TR Legend it works internally within one executable so it's not looping and
here we have a seperate app that saving preferences in a plain file then the
game try to use them - without success so it's calling the setup again .. and
that loop
persist forever.

What is the relation of the code for XDND support in X11driver then?
Also noted this: http://wiki.winehq.org/DragAndDrop
Is that means the there is support for XDND but no bridge to Windows DND (via
OLE usually)?
If that functionality is not implemented, I think it is significant stopper for
1.0 release - it is quite fundamental part, IMHO.

Hi, i don't know about the 1st problem , but the second one seems to be a bug in
CreateFileA:
This sample
---------------------------------------------------------------
#include <stdio.h>
#include "windows.h"
int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hinst, HINSTANCE hprev, LPSTR cmdline, int cmdshow)
{
HANDLE hFile;
hFile = CreateFile("\\\\.\\c:",0,FILE_SHARE_WRITE,0,OPEN_EXISTING,0,0);
if(hFile == -1) printf("ERRROR\n"); else printf("All OK\n");
CloseHandle(hFile);
return 0;
}
-----------------------------------
gives different output on windows and wine (on windows it says "All OK")
Maybe the "\\\\.\\c:" is not handled correctly

This is a regression. If I remember right it worked 1-2 months ago fine.
At least the settings dialogue came up fine. Only problem was that if you
clicked ok the the game didnt start, the settings dialogue just came up again.
So it was looping all the time.

Sorry for the late ideas, but it would be interesting to see:
1. what GetClassInfo (both A/W) returns for such a class
2. whether any other user32 window proc works the same way (button, edit, menu,
listbox, desktop and other control procs, DefMDIChildProc, DefDlgProc come to
mind).

That is interesting. Can you add a trace to output the values of the old
drawable and context?
It may be an idea to just invalidate the currently active context instead of
reactivating the old one. Maybe an incorrect old context is reported due to a
driver bug or leftover from a former d3d device. The context manager could
restore a known good context from the context list.

Ok.

> on the command line.
Ok, then I suppose I would have to convert the string to the charset defined in
Un*x locale before calling canonicalize_file_name().
Btw, I notice my use of config_dir is not very correct either, since it won't
support drives that are not in a subdir of config_dir. I think I would have to
check which win32 drive does the file belong to, and then check if it's fully
contained in it. But then there's that "catch-all" '/' drive, which breaks this
scheme.
Perhaps what we should do is checking if getcwd() is a subdir of our
executable's drive; if it is then leave relative paths as-is, and otherwise
convert to absolute paths?

Summary: wotr (retail): Autoplay.exe produces segfault
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-files
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rmh(a)aybabtu.com
Running 'd:\Autoplay.exe' (with win32 path! see bug 7663) results in segfault at
_dxinst.exe. I've debugged the problem to some extent, it goes as follows:
- Autoplay.exe runs Setup.exe
- Setup.exe runs _dxinst.exe with " -wd " (work directory) as parameter.
- Since _dxinst.exe found " -wd ", it expects a second parameter, which should
contain 'd:' (checked on WinXP), but can't find it. Segfaults since it isn't
prepared to fail gracefuly when this happens.
I found that the second param being empty is probably caused by:
0009:Call kernel32.MultiByteToWideChar(00000000,00000000,00124fc1
"",ffffffff,00431298,00000000) ret=004012d9
whose "" argument in the code corresponds to:
:004012CB FF742418 push dword[esp+18]
I suppose I would have to trace back to see where this 18(%esp) comes from,
unless someone can suggest a better/quicker way. Anyway, I run out of time for
now. Will look into that later.

Your system is broken!
The test tried to open "COM1",
(trace:file:CreateFileW L"COM1" GENERIC_READ GENERIC_WRITE ... )
that is converted to the default target as expected
(trace:file:get_dos_device L"COM1" -> "/dev/ttyS0")
but then, CreateFile does not fail:
trace:file:CreateFileW returning 0x38
Since you have no serial Ports, this CreateFile must fail
(which is handled in our test).
In cour case, wine is able to create "/dev/ttyS0".
This is not possible for a normal user, so
1) you are running as root
or
2) your Distribution is broken
What is printed from the command: file /dev/ttyS0

Mirek, the bug is still present here. I bet you aren't
running with a clean .wine, and some previous install
left behind something that makes the install succeed.
I decided to have a go at the next little step myself,
and added a stub syssetup.dll. It needed three stub entry points
before dasetup.log no longer complained about missing entry points.
This got me further; it still fails, but now it fails later, with
wine: Unimplemented function syssetup.dll.SetupQueryRegisteredOsComponent called
at address 0x7ee5fa80
I'll attach the patch so someone can take the next step.

Thus Skype sends the pre-IE5 structure that is small than what we were trying to
read. I think the validation should be done in explorer, not in shell32 but when
I'll change it I'll send a patch to wine-patches

The afterlife demo doesn't have the same problem as the actual version.
Something I just realised might be a factor: prior to the full screen coming up,
afterlife pops up a dialogue box saying 'this'll probably work better in 256
colour mode', as soon as you tell it to continue, the supposed-to-be-fullscreen
screen comes up. It might be that producing the dialogue is upsetting something.
Maybe.

SendMessageW(tray, WM_COPYDATA, (WPARAM)nid->hWnd, (LPARAM)&cds);
Hopefully it might help you to find a proper fix

Summary: Font problem with wine (Codepage issue)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.33.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: gtsarouchas(a)commissario2994.it
wine selects the fonts for the application depending on the codepage value in
the wine registry, but there isn't a way for having it changed.
Even changing LANG, LC_ALL, LC_NUMERIC doesn't affect the codepage value.
Every time this value is changed it switchs back to the default 1252,437.
You can't even add to these values.
Wine displays only the fonts conforming to these codepages.

im getting the same problem with the demo here.
the only workaround for me is to disable sound via winecfg.
Cant get further though, getting a crash into the GL funcs.

OK, I tried the full tarball and got the same results, so it wasn't my tree
that got messed up during patching.
I then started the arduous task of regression-testing and now, 13 compiles
later (and having to patch each one by hand because in the entire 0.9-series
the dummy-union/struct members were messed up more often than not) I found
the culprit (git-output):
0f8706ec33b3193f19b3a55247fe515497063fc5 is first bad commit

This probably depends on the X11-version; I've got an older one, but Wine
should either refuse to build/run on older platforms (not desirable) or work
around bugs/limitations (much preferred).
I sincerely hope this work won't be for the birds, otherwise it'll be the
last time in the foreseeable future I'll report a bug.
