One can pick out that the textures are the correct ones. They're just being
drawn wrongly!

Seems that it may be an issue with the x86_64 kernel since Lei was able to get
it working with a 32 bit kernel. After I reboot to use a 32 bit kernel, 0.9.11
also ran without any problems for me. However, trying to run strace to determine
the sequence of system calls used crashed the program on both 32 bit and 64 bit
kernels. Valgrind produced the following 2 output files.

You can't install an app using crossover office, then run it in wine and report
a bug about it. If you want to keep this bug open, then you need to rm -rf
~/.wine then install the app using wine. Then you can report bugs you run into
while running the app in wine.
> I had some extensive discussion with the crossover people, and they seemed to
suggest that the problem may needs to be fixed in some part of the Wine code.
That may be the case, but only because crossover office is a hacked up version
of Wine, so if the bug is fixed in wine, then it'll work in crossover.
> If that is possibly true, shouldn't you and users who may have a similar
problem know about it, and if possible fix it?
Sure, but you have to follow the rules when reporting *Wine* bugs.

0.9.30 and 0.9.29 do not compile, the same error occurs.
0.9.28 compiles fine.

Summary: graphics output of MaCom2.dll does not work
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.31.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-opengl
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ulf.mehlig(a)gmx.net
MaCom2.dll is a library providing functions for building ecological forest
models developed by H. Hildenbrandt and U. Berger at the Centre for Tropical
Marine Ecology in Bremen, Germany. MaCom2 is not open source at the moment but
is freely available on request from the authors.
Library functions are called from a user-supplied script (using, e.g., Python)
via DCOM.The library provides functions for generating 3D/OpenGL representations
of the modeled forest while the script is running.
Here is what I do to install MaCom2:
- install python2.5 and pywin32 (www.python.org)
- register the dll (gdiplus.dll has to be available when doing this)
regsvr32 MaCom2.dll
- call the script, e.g.
wine test_OpenGL.py
A window opens, however, the contents is not displayed. This used to work some
wine versions ago. The content of the script is appended below.
Another funny thing is that the program does not stop when the window is closed
(it does on MS Windows). Possibly this is a separate bug.
I'll attach a log file with WINDEDEBUG=+all. I am grateful for any hint how to
produce more helpful error logs.
Thanks for your help! Ulf

This application is important to photography of astronomical objects. Its well
used nature can be seen by the 20,xxx downloads of the current version in 3
months. It installs and runs under wine, but will not open an avi movie file.
It uses the avi files to stack webcam pictures to increase dramatically the
signal/noise ratio in a photograph. This needs to be fixed to make this program
available to Linux users. (the error within the program is "can't load AVI file")
Wine shows a series of errors where it is looking for file X01 in a directory
under Registax. (Not the directory the avi is in). It repeats that error 5x
before giving up

I have applied the sysctl settings, I never see any *.mdmp files in my Steam
directory, ive tried deleting the *.blobs, ive tried using a fresh ~/.wine, Ive
tried using a fresh install of linux with several distros (Ubuntu 6.10, Sabayon
3.26, openSUSE 10.2, and Fedora Core 6) all x86, with all versions since 0.9.25,
up to 0.9.31. Currently I'm using CVS wine, as 0.9.31 broke my source games. I
bought Garry's mod the day it was released (Always been a big fan) and it has
never worked, except in Winblowz, which is no longer functional either. Surely
someone has the same problem, as it seems to be independent of the sytem
running it and the distro used, at least for me. All games I've purchased
before Garry's Mod 10 work; Counterstrike: Source, Half Life 2, Half Life 2:
Deathmatch, and Half Life 2: Episode One. As well as every original Half Life
game available. I began to wonder if it was specific to Garry's Mod, so I
purchased Dark Messiah over steam, but the same thing happens. Apparently the
Steam network itself has a personal grudge against me.

Scott, can you build from git to see if it's fixed?
Alternately, Nigel/Lei, could you try with exactly 0.9.31
(i.e. what Scott used) to see if it shows up there?
BTW the line
*** glibc detected *** emule.exe: corrupted double-linked list: 0x7c14e5e0 ***
makes me want to suggest trying this under valgrind to see if
any interesting errors pop up. (Valgrind's a bit of a pain,
as there are many spurious or near-spurious errors, but
sometimes it's quite helpful.)

<i>So, why not add support for MP3 in DirectShow, you ask? Well, DirectShow
doesn't work at all right now;</i>
Actually, it does "work", but it's very messy. I've been doing a bunch of work
on getting mpeg audio in directshow, and I have a patch here that gets
music "working" (adding an mpeg stream splitter). However, quartz.dll is very
messy. There's a lot of skipping and static and white noise even under light
CPU usage. It doesn't even work without a hack if you're not using OSS at Full
acceleration due to a crash in dsound.dll (which a cause has yet to be
pin-pointed).
<i>Also, Morrowind tries to use the IMediaPosition interface, which isn't
implemented in Wine either.</i>
IMediaPosition (stubs, at least) was added in commit
7d597264dc9d70afdf86cee09c4d51028f11168f :)
<i>There may be more roadblocks, but those are the ones I've run into so
far.</i>
The biggest problem is that the code is extremely messy and incomplete. Things
like converting time positions to byte positions, and vice versa, look
incredibly wrong, and fixing it is going to take quite a bit of work. I'm
still trying, but I don't know if I'll be able to figure it out.

Line 1210 of dlls/ddraw/device.c:

sizeof(sdesc.ddpfPixelFormat.dwSize);
Surely should be sizeof(sdesc.ddpfPixelFormat);

What kind of detail info would you like to know ? Do you have a precise
question ? I don't know which detail I should add at the moment, except that
Lunarcal did work here with wine 0.9.3 and SuSE 9.3 until I did update the wine
to 0.9.29
I would like to test back and forth (with wine versions), but am not sure if
installing an older wine RPM over a newer one is a good thing to do (wouldn't
it produce mismatch ?)
Moreover I would like to install 2 different RPMs in parallel, but no idea if
this is feasible and how to switch up and down.

Reinstalled steam to a clean directory, all steam registry entries removed, now
the error is slightly different. Sometimes The games don't appear, or appear
"preloaded", other times the games appear in my list, but trying to run any of
them spawns a "Not suscribed to ..." dialog like I mentioned before. It seems
to be random whether they show up on the list or not.

I don't see any visible error or fixme that could cause this. Some steam games
when purchased do not show up as purchased using wine and are unplayable, under
windows they appear correctly. The first game i had this problem with was
Garry's Mod. I tried purchasing Dark Messiah through wine and suddenly Garry's
Mod showed up as purchased and I was able to install it. Upon trying to run it
however, it generated a "Not suscribed to garrymod" error, and it dissapeared
from my list. at the same time, Dark Messiah changed from "Single" and
"Multi-player" to "Demo". I have not yet found a way around this.

signal ignore hack
I managed to get a little further using this hack to ignore CPU exception
signals. Now after fpe_handler, the installer displays a lot of dxdiag FIXMEs,
then another fpe_handler exception, and (presumably) finishes leaving us with
something usable.
Doesn't seem to work for actual game, though. I suppose one of wine's threads
could be re-instating its handlers and replacing the SIG_IGNs. Will look into
that later.

Peto,
The user manual does not list any specific dependencies because the list would
be too long. If you look on http://wiki.winehq.org/Recommended_Packages or
http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/Fonts, they all mention fontforge as a
requirement to compile wine. Furthermore, when you run wine's ./configure, it
will give a warning if you do not have fontforge installed.
So as Louis previously mentioned, if installing fontforge solved your problem,
can we close this bug?

The background color of Windows applications should match the background color
of the native applications (KDE, Gnome, XFCE, etc...).
For instance on the screenshot you see the background color of the toolbar is
dark grey in Photoshop, not matching KolourPaint's background color of the
toolbar: http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/2815/winekh8.png
Ok, it's not *necessary* for the application to work, but it's a nice
enhancement for a polished desktop. There's gotta be a way to do it because for
instance Gtk applications can have the KDE look and feel (gtk-qt-engine), and
for WINE there's probably a way to grab the same info and tint the background
of Win32 applications accordingly.

I believe that the issue is indeed the sound. I figured the DirectInput Device
(Joypad) failed simply because I do not have a joypad on this computer. The
game's log ends at the DirectSound Object Create, and that combined with the
dsound error in the terminal lead me to believe that the game could create the
object DirectSound, but that it could go no further, since there are several
lines under the other sections of the log while there is only one line under the
DirectSound Initialise section.
I wasn't aware that this bug is a duplicate of that other one.
I'm also unsure as to whether the dsound is the only issue. There are errors for
a couple of other things, as seen in the terminal errors log. But the game's
logfile seems to stop at the creation of the DirectSound object, which leads me
to believe that if the dsound is fixed, the game will work.
I really appreciate the work you guys do on this, and I apologize for not going
about this as I should have at first. Tis the first bug I've ever filed. :P

This bug is labeled under the component "wine-directx-dsound." If it is the
dsound issue that this bug report is about, then it is a dupe of bug #1631.
The second log, produced by the game, implies that DInput failed, with respect
to the joypad. It seems that this is what caused the game to stall or fail, if
that is what this bug report is about. Please clarify which it is so people
have an idea of what they may need to work on if they wish for this game to
work. Thank you.

Adam, as I do not own Guild Wars, I do not know if you have to set something.
My brother plays World of Warcraft though, and you do have to check a little box
that enables a hardware cursor when in D3D mode. If the game does not know to
use a hardware cursor, my patch is useless. Hope this helps some. Anyhow, I am
working on a few patches to deal with the whole RGBA and hardware cursor
problem. Have no idea when they will be done though.

A developer requested Linux support for Powerbuilder back in May 2006:
http://groups.google.com/group/sybase.public.powerbuilder.general/msg/170df…
I contacted him and asked if he was still interested.
He said yes, and pointed me to his demo application,
http://www.amlamed.com/demo9.zip (linked to from
http://www.amlamed.com/docsoft.html).
By trial and error, I arrived at a procedure for installing
the app and its prerequisites; it's at
http://kegel.com/wine/meddemo.sh
I use native ODBC rather than UnixODBC because that
would be more convenient if it worked, and I want to feel the pain.
(And because I couldn't figure out how to set the data source for UnixODBC.)
Running this script with wine-0.9.31 produces the error
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000002 at address 0x7bc50b7c

The crash seems to be because of unchecked return values
introduced by http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2007-February/035567.html
Checking the results of the functions in question seems to help; see
http://kegel.com/wine/sec.patch for a quick try at a fix.
Applying that patch lets the Sybase database connect dialog
come up (yay).
(Note: even after that patch, I still see a crash:

Yes, but that's surely not relevant. This warning is just telling me that wine
has disabled OpenGL, but I'm perfectly happy for it to use unaccelerated
graphics. I also get this warning when I start seamonkey/winemine/MS Office97,
all of which start just fine.
Also, I tried wine+organizer on 2 other machines, with nvidia cards. The
ATI-related warning doesn't appear, but the combination of wine + organizer
still fails.

This bugzilla is for Wine. If you have problems with Crossover Office, please
report them to Codeweavers. If you in fact meant Wine, but said Crossover, feel
free to reopen. You can't install a program using Crossover, then try to run it
in Wine and report errors you get with this setup. Also, wine-0.9.17 is way out
of date, and I suggest you update to wine-0.9.31.

I installed TurboTax 2006 using Crossover 6.0.0 and it worked o.k., except that
it could not update the program with updated tax files. The program error
message indicated that the program was "unable to verify your Internet Client
Dll file's Internet signature." (error 9124)
According to a support person at Turbotax, this was due to a new check
introduced this year to make sure a shared DLL had the correct company name on
it. He suggested wine was unable to correctly read the company name using the
system call VerQueryValueA.
I am running Fedora 2.6.19-1.2895.fc6 x86_64 and wine 0.9.17.
The wine log shows a few messages about the time I asked for the update:

Correct, noticed I was using "0.9.31" also. But I also did try 0.9.30 yesterday
and found the bug also in that version too.
I believe I was using 0.9.30 for the past months until I upgraded the firmware
on the device being connected to the com port (actually using a usb to serial
device to connect the serial/com device to the computer's usb port). Now, after
the firmware update, I'm seeing the bug consistently with 0.9.30 & 0.9.31.
