doesn't help
I just recompiled todays commits and still get the broken icons.
(tested with fresh ~/.wine and only the logserver.exe from the the zip file)
the logserver.exe isn't creating any cache files on disk (it only logs debug
output when eve is running as well)
you can get the file from http://www.eve-online.com/download/ as well but it
comes with the game in a 550mb file

I'm using gnome 2.16.1 in Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy.
I read in the Ubuntu forums (cant find it offhand) that running a kde sys tray
app in gnome fixes the utorrent gui in gnome. It might be a bug in how the
Gnome Panel handles the utorrent/wine systray. That could explain why it works
fine in KDE.
I will try a KDE sys tray app and post later.

Summary: NASCAR 2003 Sound Locks up game
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.22.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: neurowiz(a)neurowiz.com
Wine 0.9.22-9ubuntu3 (edgy)
Installed on Ubuntu - Edgy Eft (2.6.17-10-generic)
I did not compile this, installed as a package via Ubuntu's App Manager
I don't use Windows with wine
Application: NASCAR 2003 (CD Installed version, no patches or mods)
Command line: wine NR2003.exe
Behavior: The game starts with the intro movie correctly. The sound seems to
"repeat" - this is mainly the "clicks" and audio feedback to making choices. I
can make the game "lock up" by clicking on menu choices as I enter the game. The
sound just repeats over and over and never seems to get better. The sounds do
sound correct. This behavior makes the game unplayable, as I can't even set
options without the sound locking the game up.
Interestingly, this problem seemed to lessen (very little lockup, but still
sound duplication) when I ran in debug mode to generate the file.
Additional info:
Audio settings (from winecfg):
OSS Driver selected
Hardware Accelleration: Emulation
Default Sample Rate: 22050
Default bits: 8
Driver emulation: No
Audio device: 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio (Intel)
I'm attaching two files - the first (report_file) is the "normal" wine output -
you can see the DSOUND underruns and the thread block. The second file
(report_file_under_debug) is what generated when I ran under debug mode,
reproduced the bug and then hit CtlC to abort the program.
If there are additional steps I can take to provide information, please let me know.

Well, that's good actually, because then at least it's trying to use the shader.
Hopefully that also means the log will contain useful information.
Unfortunately the patch I linked to won't apply cleanly anymore, as Stefan sent
some patches earlier that touched the same area, but I will resend an updated
version.

I test it now with 97.46 and it looks even worser. With GLSL and PixelShader
enabled there are matter strange things like never.
With PixelShader disabled (with or without GLSL) it working exactly like with
previous driver.
I will try to test patch you mentioned in this week. Unfortunately I leave in
Thursday, then if I don't do it tomorrow, I will do it in weekend.

After a few days, I started up utorrent and the window worked fine, but the

I can see systray icon everytime.
Moreover, if I click "Hide/Show Utorrent" in systray context menu, the empty
window (which appears while restoring from task bar) repaints OK. The same with
taskmgr.
Do you experience the same?
What WM do you use? Mine is KDE 3.5.4

Summary: Feature Request: provide SharedUserData area + accessors

Hello,
while trying to implement kernel32/ntdll COM+ info related stubs which use
NtGetSystemInformation/NtSetSystemInformation() i noticed the complete absense
of "SharedUserData" structure which is mapped into every usermode process at
0x7FFE0000h on Windows NT+ (accessed by windows native api).
Does there exist an equivalent system global structure to store that kind of
information (cached data copy)
Otherwise one has use function static or module local "fake" data or execute
some registry reads/writes every time.
I would like to use the structure defined like windbg outputs on WinXP SP2:
--- snip ---

The only reference now is include\ddk\wdm.h (defines struct _KUSER_SHARED_DATA)
I googled a bit and found it was used in ntdll/loader.c for a short time (test
patch?) but no reference is found nowadays.
Why is it gone or not used? It provides quick access (cache) to global data.

open once so I could change the systray preferences. I restarted it and the gui
did not show up.

The same behavior has 'taskmgr' which ships with wine.

Dear Hans Leidekker,
Thanks for such a quick response. I made a test application in VC++ for
launching the pdf help. I have pasted the function responsible for launching the
help.
void CMainFrame::OnHelp()
{
MessageBox("140");
long temp = (long)ShellExecute(NULL, "open", "Thai.pdf", NULL, NULL, SW_SHOW);
CString strTemp1;
strTemp1.Format("%d", temp);
MessageBox(strTemp1,MB_OK);

different shader numbers). It should also be noted that glxinfo does show that
GL_ARB_draw_buffers is present:
$ glxinfo | grep draw_buff
GL_ARB_draw_buffers, GL_ATI_draw_buffers, GL_ATI_element_array,
fr-038 works reasonably well (less the remaining issue from bug 6577) when
using ARB.
3DMark 2003 and 2001 exhibit similar issues, in that they will crash at the
end of a test that used shaders. In the case of 2001, the high quality car
chase test is an example of a test that uses shaders. In the case of 2003, the
first test is an example of a test that uses shaders. Debug output for 3DMark
2001 and 2003 to follow.
All of this was observed with a Radeon X1400 using the 8.33.6 drivers.

One problem is that Wine requires a full path in order
to find the Unix executable (e.g. /usr/bin/xpdf instead
of just xpdf).
The other problem is that ShellExecute converts the
filename to a Windows path which xpdf will not understand.
You'll need a wrapper script like this:
#!/bin/sh
xpdf `winepath -u $1`
and then register the fully qualified path to this script
as the handler for opening .pdf files.
If it still doesn't work run this command in the directory
where "help.pdf" resides:
WINEDEBUG=trace+exec wine start help.pdf
and attach the output here.

I've seen more bug entries for this app.
Some of them might be related to a incomplete vb6 components install..
"vb6 IDE install" should read "vb6 runtime"
vb6.olb gets registered with installation of vb6 IDE.
Thats why some ppl report "it works on developer machine but not on customer
machine"
Don't know if vb6.olb is part of standard vb6 runtime install.

You sure that your vb6 IDE install using wine went fine (without any silent
installation errors/skips)?
Usually a vb6 IDE installation should take care and register vb6 typelibs
You might check if required vb6 components are registered (registry viewer, ole
viewer)
I dont have vb6 installed but i remember that kind of stuff resides vb6.olb.
You might try to register the typelibrary manually using tools like "ole viewer"
or "comview".
These tools have ability to register type libraries from file.

Not with current wine, but we're planning to make it the default eventually.
Are those logs complete? I'm only seeing calls to
IWineD3DVertexShaderImpl_CompileShader in the ARB asm log, and none in the GLSL
log. Neither of the logs has any calls to IWineD3DPixelShaderImpl_CompileShader.
>From what I'm seeing in the logs it probably "works" in case of GLSL because
it's not using the vertex shaders there, but I'm not sure how enabling/disabling
pixel shaders make any difference if it's not using those in either case.
Could you add a log with WINEDEBUG="-dsound,+d3d,+d3d_caps,+d3d_shader"? (GLSL)

I am running a VC++ based application on Linux with the help of wine. Everything
works fine but i am not able to open its help file which is in pdf format.
I tried to trace the reason why pdf isnt being open. It is due to no association
found for pdf file in wine registry. I tried to associate the XPDF for pdf file
but i am not sure why its not working properly.I did following changes
Added following lines in /usr/local/share/wine/wine.inf and
/usr/share/wine/wine.inf and ran the wineprefixcreate.
Added these lines near classes in alpha betical order
HKCR,.pdf,,2,"pdffile"
HKCR,.pdf,"Content Type",2,"application/pdf"
and near the txtfile/open .....
HKCR,txtfile\shell\open\command,,2,"%11%\notepad.exe %1"
HKCR,txtfile\shell\print\command,,2,"%11%\notepad.exe /p %1"

patch to get sound working in OSS
Bug is still present in GIT after wine 0.9.30, I'm still trying to figure out
why this patch works. To use it, set OSS as your sound driver, disable the
others.
Basically what happens is:
trace:driver:DriverCallback (20008E6D, 0003, 0x8000, 03BB, 00000000, 00000000,
00000000); !
trace:driver:DriverCallback Function (32 bit) !
(which calls 0x20008E6D in WAIL32.DLL)
(which calls SuspendThread)
(which hangs forever)
The patch gets around this by not calling DriverCallback on the WOM_OPEN
message. Is that what Windows 9x does too? Maybe someone with more knowledge of
winmm can help.

It seems this error happens because _check_manifest fails. looking at this
function, it calls FindActCtxSectionStringW which seems to be unimplemented, right?
when this funcion is called, wine outputs this:
fixme:actctx:FindActCtxSectionStringW 00000000 (null) 2 L"msvcr80.dll" 0x327b8c
I didnt not try to understand the control flow very hard, but its likely this is
the reason to blame.
It seems this is the official MS way to get msvcr80.dll:
http://www.sweetpotatosoftware.com/files/vcredist_x86.zip
but this seems to fail to install in wine with:
wine vcredist_x86.exe
fixme:advapi:DecryptFileA "C:\\windows\\temp\\IXP001.TMP\\" 00000000
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x80002b8c at address 0x701069b2
(thread 003f), starting debugger...
So as a workaround you can try:
http://www.sweetpotatosoftware.com/files/microsoft.vc80.crt.zip
which includes the manifest file _check_manifest looks for.
i placed it inside windows/winsxs as should be expected

manual:
$ msiexec -regserver
With the current way wineprefixcreate loads wine.inf and sets up the current
configuration, msiexec's regserver is called before the proper SCM registry
entries exist, thus the call to OpenSCManager fails. The patch I sent to add
msiexec registration was preceded by a patch that made wineprefixcreate use
advpack instead of setupapi to load wine.inf, but that was silently rejected.
Using advpack would allow us to use the RunPostSetupCommands after all the
registry entries have been created. This is the best solution, but Alexandre
hasn't accepted it so far. The other possible solution is to check if the right
registry keys exist in OpenSCManager and create them if they don't, but native
doesn't do this and it's pretty hacky.

I noticed that after I added myself as a monitor to the Beyond Good and Evil

two boxes with the following text:
[
You will now receive an email whenever changes are made to this Application version.

jan.wine(a)zerebecki.de nlaw(a)nildram.co.uk
]
As you can see my email appears twice. I'm not a maintainer of this application,
and obvious I'm not a monitor for this particular version. I am a monitor for
the only other version of this app
(http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=3786), but this logically
doesn't explain why I should be sent two emails.
Actually, I only got one email as a result of this. Note that this could either
be explained by gmail filtering duplicate emails (possibly) or the AppDB mailer
being smart somewhere down the line.
I quickly looked at the AppDB code and determined that SendNotificationMail in
include/monitor.php prints those messages by first calling
get_notify_email_address_list in include/user.php which returns a list of
emails. Without access to the database, I can only guess that it returns my
email twice.
Anyways, it would be nice to have this fixed :)

L.S,
numpad keys do not work as they should in RB3D (sierra, flightsim game)
according to trace+keyboard, they do get translated.
maybe app is checking something else that is not translated.
problematic, since these keys control look-around and map on/off in the game.
pity, because everything else works flawless.....
wine trace+keyboard gives:
trace:keyboard:X11DRV_ToUnicodeEx NumLockMask = 0010

Ok i have got more information on this. it seems the font problem when i set
reolution to 1024x768 is gone in 0.9.30, but the window always on top one is
still there. ive found two workarounds for this. One is to move the window way
to the bottom of the screen, the other is to use the window manager to force it
to background. Both ways are not trivial because wine disables the title bar and
the resize bar, so i had to use a shortcut for that.
So it seems on windows the directdraw window is supposed to be always on top,
but wine fals to do that when its not in desktop mode. Any ideas how to fix this?

Models geomentry works good with pixel shader enabled - BUT unfortunately with
pixel shader enabled models are _untexturised_ (please see
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5723 for screenshots). From those
reason people that play this game with version 0.9.29 (and previous) simply
play with disabled pixel shader.
Unfortunately, in Wine 0.9.30 models with disabled pixel shader have broken
geometry (but are still texturised).
BTW: How to do regression test?
I could say, that in version:
- 0.9.29 (and below) with pixel shader _disabled_ models geometry were good
and models were texturized.
- 0.9.30 with pixel shader _disabled_ models geometry are broken, but models
are texturized.
- in all previous versions (included current 0.9.30) with pixel shader
_enabled_ models geometry are good, but there are _NO_ textures on models
(please see bug 5723 ).

If this is a regression, please do a regression test.
It should be noted that emulated vertex shaders don't work properly at the
moment, and the option will likely be removed at some point. Disabling pixel
shaders isn't recommended for anything other than debugging either, and will
probably be removed as well at some point.

Well not that I have a Linux machine up and running, that has a small kind of
possibility to run this game, but even though will I give you a possibility to
try this advice, works on most of the windows-machines having the same problem
or issue, with the new EA-games.
(works with one of my windows-machines)
If you execute the autorun.exe with the comp ability to Windows 2000 you will
probably be able to install the game. it will show you the text-lines containing
the "rules" to accept, and it will not complain about the DirectX 0.
Wish you good luck,
Kindness Regards Mr. Turesson

What makes you suspect refcounting there? Also, what does +heap show for output?
In case of the rthdribl demo it appears to try and allocate a way too large
random amount of memory, which fails and causes the NULL pointer dereference.
When that demo is run with +d3d9 (for me at least), it only tries to allocate
0x400 bytes of memory and gets further, which IMO suggests some kind of memory
corruption.

Can confirm this too.
Quick fix: uncheck the option "Minimize to tray" in "Preferences" -> "General"
-> "System tray"
Interesting effect:
when using that dreaded option you click the task pane
task pane gets selected + focus of current app/window is lost
torrent main window doesnt show
if you click again, the pane gets unselected and previous app/windows gets focus
again (ACTIVATE).
Now get context menu (right click) click "close" menu item. nothing happens.
If you click the task pane thereafter 1-3 times, utorrent main window will
correctly show up.
Weird ...

The secur32 call would fail anyway. We don't support any provider that allows a

Hello,
i hacked wine/dlls/ntdll/signal_i386.c:set_cpu_context to see how far it gets.
739 if (flags & CONTEXT_FULL)
740 {
741 if ((flags & CONTEXT_FULL) != (CONTEXT_FULL & ~CONTEXT_i386))
742 FIXME( "setting partial context (%x) not supported\n", flags );
743 else
744 __wine_call_from_32_restore_regs( context );
745 }
In this case i ignored the partial flags 0x13: CONTEXT86_CONTROL |
CONTEXT86_INTEGER | CONTEXT86_DEBUG and called
__wine_call_from_32_restore_regs() right away.
Restore the missing CONTEXT86_SEGMENTS seem to have no negative effect at all.
To fix this right, __wine_call_from_32_restore_regs (e.g.
relay.c:BuildCallFrom32Regs(void) needs implement partial context stuff.
Maybe full context restore even if partial requested could be made default.
Yet to see what kind of app bumps on this...
Ok. It got further with context "hack".

Hello,
seems the OLE server (SYNSOPOS.exe) is not registered by setup.
Setup (SyncrosoftLicenseControlSetup.exe) crashes somewhere - therefore some
post-setup steps might not get executed.
The app crash after installation is due to bad OLE error handling.
Fix it by manually register the OLE server:
wine SYNSOPOS.exe /RegServer

Dragon NaturallySpeaking seemed to install quite well with wine 0.9.30. I used
the directions found in the AppsDB, generally, to the extent that I first
adjusted the sound, then installed IE5.5. Training also went well, and the
training information seemed to save properly.
Then when I tried to run it, it crashed. I think has something to do with the
fact that DNS by default starts from the Quickstart panel.
I have attached the terminal output for when I tried to run it.

Yes it works, it's the same problem! Can that bug be solved because I need XMODIFIERS="@im=SCIM"?
It occurs with all versions after 0.9.22
Thanks!

Debian GNU/Linux: the Universal Operating System
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7403
Summary: utorrent gui does not display (systray and window)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.30.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P4
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: danomatika(a)gmail.com
I'm running Ubuntu 6.10 on an IBM Thinkpad T43.
utorrent runs great in Wine 0.9.22. Systray and window work fine.
When Ubuntu added Wine 0.9.30 to the repositories I naturally upgraded.
At first utorrent worked great as usual, although I noticed that the main menu
icons (the add torrent, stop, start, etc buttons...) were not rendered
correctly. They are squished, with the bottoms cut off.
After a few days, I started up utorrent and the window worked fine, but the
systray did not appear. Obviously, if I minimized utorrent to the systray, I
had no way of bringing it back. It was running fine in the background.
After a few more days, starting utorrent yielded no window at all! It was
running in the background and I can hear my drive ticking torrents away.
I tried deleting my .wine dir and reinstalling 0.9.30, which only resulting in
the same problems.
I downgraded my Wine installation back to 0.9.22 and, so far, have had none of
these problems.

(From update of attachment 4773)
The problem exposed by this attached code has been captured in bug 7360.
It appears that this issue is different.
I'm suspecting the problem with the shown buttons (which are supposed to be
invisible) is the result of a missing WM_NCPAINT/WM_ERASEBKGND message instead
of an extra WM_ERASEBKGND as demonstrated in bug 7360.

You can easily reproduce the error without an Acrobat5 license, as I just found out:
- download PaperCapture.exe from

- cabextract PaperCapture.exe
- unshield x data1.cab
- cd Plugin_Files/Acrobat/Plug_ins/PaperCapture/Servers
- cp ../../../../../System_Files/* . (to copy some dlls)
- "wine capserve.exe" should show the reported problems (if it doesn't run
already, get a "msvcp60.dll" and copy it to ".", then try again)
This is my console output when running capserve.exe this way:

I'm not sure anymore this was a regression, tried to dig some more but no success.
Anyone else interested in running that demo and confirming this bug?

Sorry, no it doesn't, that's why I'm trying to figure out what would cause it to
happen. I'm not new to Wine and I explained the specifics in the previous entry.

I think I'm experiencing the same bug. I'm using openSUSE 10.2 with Win 0.9.30
and it seems that non-resizable windows don't have a minimize button, they do
show in the task bar though. Minimizing the program through the task bar
doesn't work either.

I just tested the 16-bit version of the same app and in Window 3.1 mode, just
Xnest :1 ... is insufficient (complains about needing 256 palletized colour) and
I get the same error as mentioned when trying an 8-bit depth.

Does it the application you need work without -depth 8 (I have an app that
doesn't work on a regular display but
Xnest :1; env DISPlAY=:1 wine path-to-app
works.

Nice try, but Xnest doesn't do the trick. On an affected
system, it won't even start up in 8bpp mode:
$ Xnest -ac -depth 8 :1
Fatal server error:
Unable to find desired default visual.
(And I can't figure out how to tell Xnest to allow connections...)

Summary: TaxCut 2006 - Crashes while starting with unhandled page
fault
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.30.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jvsikora(a)adelphia.net
Note; This is a different bug than 6956.
I am able to install H&R Block Taxcut 2006. However it crashes every time as
soon as it starts. It does not matter if the app is isntalled/run as Windows
2000 or Windows 98. The request to register the program does display after the
crash.
It seems to be crashing while trying to display html. wine-gecko is installed.
If I do not install wine-gecko, the program does not crash but most of the
program is blank.
A backtrace will be included.

When trying to run SimCity 3000, although the game's music can be heard, all
wine manages to draw is a small black square at the top left corner of the
screen. Of course, the error this bug refers to comes up and, as requested
above, a debug log with x11settings will be attached.

Status|RESOLVED |UNCONFIRMED
Resolution|WONTFIX |
------- Additional Comments From mk144210(a)bcm.tmc.edu 2007-11-02 15:38 -------
Based on comments on wine-devel and the fact that i have included a patch that
addresses the malware concerns (user input is required to start startup
programs, but the user can select "always" or "never" to get rid of this input),
and since the installer for Vector NTI still needs this to install its MS
components properly, and since this installer works just fine on Win98 and
WinXP, I am reopening this bug. I am not trying to do anything antagonistic, but
I think my patch addresses the issues about malware brought up, and, if not, I
believe that these can be addressed in a constructive way rather than just
saying that this functionality will never be implemented under any circumstances.

wineboot: Start items in StartUp folder on boot, includes security measures.
New patch, to prevent malware user input is solicited. User can choose whether
to run program, with options yes - runs program, no - doesn't run, always -
sets registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\StartupItems\FullPath to
always and will check it next time and just run program, or never - sets same
key to never and won't bother the user about program anymore.

Yeah. I just checked with a clean .wine so I'm wondering what sort of thing
could cause this to happen? (I have a 100GB+ .wine folder so I'm not in a hurry
to throw it away). I've checked clean temp folders, etc. Has there been anything
changing in MSI/OLE code that would be put in the registry in a new install of
Wine but not an old one when updating? (not sure if this is a valid bug because
I've not broken Wine at all, so I'm wondering is installing a certain app has
done something to Wine which is causing it to act odd, unearthing a bug as it were).

I installed the native MSI using the wiki and now the HL2 installer appears,
but it gets stuck preparing the installation and nothing happens.

Please do NOT change the original reported Wine version, only bump the bug every
half-dozen Wine releases to point out if it's still unfixed.
