Well, I think it'll still be important to test every instance of what's being
solved here. Accmulate as many programs, solve the problem and then run through
the "duplicate" bugs to see how well it has been solved.

Bee, I bet copying folder from Windows really doesn't matter.
Wine folks are already in a development phase when only bugs
about pure-wine-installed applications are being investigated.
Just try installing BG2+ in latest Wine as you would in Windows.

Given how awesome support for DirectX is already, I can't see Wine being too far
off from being able to run this game. This would a great game to sharpen some
newer feature support for - I bet it would play out advantages for other games
as well.

It is a GAME that doesn't work, how could that possibly be related to the App

Reopen this bug if you're going to fill in the form properly and actually

I didn't try Picasa, but both winecfg and notepad do not straddle both screens
for me, they start up in the top left corner of my primary monitor, and
maximizing notepad maximizes it to only one monitor, rather than both of them
(this is the behaviour I would expect). This is the same regardless of whether
or not the WM (kwin in this case) controls the Wine windows or not, although
when Wine does it's own window management, a few pixels of the maximized
notepad (that which normally wouldn't be visible with a single monitor) can be
seen on the other monitor.

As of today's git, this seems to be much closer than before. The progress bar
shows up correctly as it's loading, and the rendering appears to be more or
less correct, with 3 caveats:
- The intro part before you actually do anything appears to have all of the
colours inverted (I'm not sure if that's correct or not), but once you start a
game, the colours appear to be fine
- The actual "content" area is a widescreen format (with black bars on the top
and bottom), but the bottom bar is a mirror of part of the actual content area
instead of being black
- The mouse cursor is still visible while playing
I was using virtual desktop mode, GLSL rather than ARB and a Geforce 6600 with
the 9746 drivers.

Thomas, are you playing without the CD in (or with a crack?) I can't remember
if Hearts of Iron has it, but Paradox games have notoriously been very broken by
the horrible copy protection forced on them alongside the lame publisher intro
movies.
There also might be a way to skip the intro movies entirely, though I'm not sure
how. AppDB might say, as might the paradox forums - you may just be able to
rename the movies folder.

The installer checks the registry to make sure IE is
installed, so I had to run http://kegel.com/wine/fakeie.sh

but the "Connecting to server" dialog never goes away.
Both tcpdump and +winsock traces show that the
app connects to a server somewhere and then disconnects.
I guess comparing a network trace between Windows and Linux might be the next step.

The problem seems to be here:

0009:Ret kernel32.GetProcAddress() retval=7b82782c ret=00b77a02
If you remove FT_Thunk() from kernel32.spec the application (FEAR Single Player
demo) comes up fine:
#@ stdcall -i386 -register FT_Thunk()
In a native kernel32.dll from winxp this function (FT_Thunk()) doesn't seem to
be exported, so i think that's where it goes wrong. Anyone know a proper
solution for it?

Well, just fyi this autostart function does work for it on Win 98 (it completes
full install), and the installer works on Win XP as well (as the autostart is
not needed there as the components it needs, like MDAC, are already present). So
I am not sure it is fair to say "the installer is broken" if it works on both
Win98 and WinXP but not in wine because Wine does not support autostart.
My long-term solution would be that Wine needs some kind of security framework,
where users would have, say, a "Security" tab in winecfg where they could select
various options like starting programs in the StartUp folder. But I believe that
if wine is trying to be 100% compatible with Windows then it should have at
least some (perhaps by default disabled) way to support _all_ the features that
Windows does, even if some of those can be abused.

I just got a chance to check 0.9.30, and found that the problem is NOT solved.
I'm using RPM package wine-0.9.30-1.fc6 on FC6, trying to run Quicken 2000
Deluxe... 'wine --version' confirms that wine 0.9.30 is running...
Every time you go to a different frame (say,select Accounts from the My Finances
list of tasks), two main menu options "go away". Once there are none left, the
menubar disappears as well.
My issue may not be the same as the others, so if you'd like, I could open a new
bug...

You were right Vitaliy. I've changed the IDirectInputAImpl_Initialize()
function in the dinput_main.c to return DI_NOTATTACHED when it's beeing called
for the third time (I assumed this would be the call when the app is
configuring the joystick - it was correct assumption;) and the game finally ran
(yey:D).
But... Unfortunately it encounters another problems, which will require another
bug reports, I think... In-game sound is only available when in winecfg I set
the audio hardware acceleration to "emulation" - in any other case the game
can't find the sound device (OSS - no sound except for the CDA and introduction
video, ALSA - the game freezes when playing first in-menu sound or first
in-game sound in Demo version).
Another problem is that the game crashes when starting up the gameplay in hw
accelerated mode - only the software renderer works (and it's quite fast on my
system even in 1280x1024;). What is weird to me is that the hw graphics device
the game detects is called "Direct Draw HAL" instead of "Direct3D HAL" or
something like that.
Kaj-Michael, can you change the dlls/dinput/dinput_main.c file, recompile wine
and check if the game behaves the same?
The changes I've made to the dinput_main.c (I've added lines that are commented
as "added this") are (from line 365):
int icounter = 0; //added this
static HRESULT WINAPI IDirectInputAImpl_GetDeviceStatus(LPDIRECTINPUT7A iface,
REFGUID rguid) {
IDirectInputImpl *This = (IDirectInputImpl *)iface;
FIXME("(%p)->(%s): stub\n",This,debugstr_guid(rguid));
icounter++; //added this
if(icounter > 2) //added this
return DI_NOTATTACHED; //added this
return DI_OK;
}

If a program puts something into autostart - that might (and usually is) walware

If the installer uses autostart - it's broken.

wineboot: Start items in StartUp folder on boot.
My proposed fix. It works for Vector NTI, and I tried to be as proper as I
could be, but this IShellLink thing is pretty new for me, so if someone who is
more expert could check it over that would be great :)
With this patch and all my other ones, you can actually type:
wine "Vector NTI Advanced 10.exe"
(the installer) and it will actually run all the way through and install
everything with no errors. There is still the bug about it requiring JScript,
so
quite a few files are missing. However, one can just install IE6 (or jscript
dlls) and native MSI and run the installer and it will work. Before, a quite
complicated shell script was necessary.

Yes, this patch does introduce problems (as noted before, and I'm not the
original author, I just ported it to current git) -- but it also fixes the
(worse) problem of input going to the terminal when it should go to the
Windoze app.
I haven't looked into it deeply enough to figure out what exactly is going on,
but I think the "attr->override_redirect = FALSE;" bit in the patch is all
that is really needed.
I'll take a look at what chunks (if any) can be removed from the patch while
still keeping it working.

So if you have this problem, then you purposely introduced that problem.

works (but it is fairly ugly -- but good enough to see what the cause for the
problem is).

What you doing is totally completely wrong. Wine does not support native drivers!
All you do, is braking Wine more and more.
Works perfectly here too.

/re: I had sound when playing the game./ Now I played a few hours with winecfg.
It seems, that the mapeditor doesn't hang up, but it reacts slowly.
I have changed emulation from win2000 to win98, switched off pixel shaders,
installed audio drivers for Win98 under wine, changed some other settings where
there was a hint that it might help. I changed some other things there and back,
to see possible changes.
Now, if I hit ctrl+p on an object rich map, it takes only 54 seconds at 100% CPU
load to draw passability marks. If i click on other map area or move scrolls, it
takes another 54 sec. What am I doing wrong?
I also tried to install chipset drivers under wine, but it failed saying, that
"a registry value is not ok, please reboot." When I start winecfg, i receive
some messages in terminal window, "install libjack.so", and an opengl error.
Thank You for help in advance. I go back to RTFM mode now.

I had this problem recently with Wine 0.9.29 (downloaded from a Ubuntu
repository). I'd be playing along, then lose all input and the display would crash.
As 0.9.30 was not available, I downloaded the source code and compiled it myself
to see if the problem went away. I've been playing this game every days for
several hours and the problem no longer occurs. I removed my previous Wine
installation before installing the newer one.
I don't know if this has something to do with the OpenGL driver I was using, my
NVIDIA drivers (the latest from nvidia.com on a FX 5700), or the archive. It
never happened in my former distro (I used to use Fedora 6, now I'm using Ubuntu
6.10). I tend to have the best luck with Wine and all other software when I
download and compile the source. It's time-consuming, but it might be worth a
try to see if the problem goes away.
I wish you the best of luck in resolving this issue.

Nope, nothing.
I have a theory: Could this be caused by an IP change, like those draconian
enforced reconnects by certain PPPoE providers today?
If so, maybe utorrent expects to be notified of such a thing via UPNP? utorrent
has support for UPNP (enabled by default when running under XP) - maybe
disabling it helps as a workaround.
Unfortunatly I can't test this right now (I'm not the only person behind my router).

You can test if the secound regression is caused by incorrect dirtification of
the state, or by (accidental) changes to the loading code. You can tell that
by simply forcing an update of shader constants before each draw, as described
here:
http://wiki.winehq.com/D3DStateManagement, chapter "Debugging".
So basically add the following line dlls/wined3d/drawprim.c, function
drawPrimitive(), after the applying loop after ENTER_GL():
StateTable[STATE_VERTEXSHADERCONSTANT].apply(STATSTATE_VERTEXSHADERCONSTANT,
This->stateBlock);
If you are using the latest git code, and my patches from yesterday are in,
the location changed slightly, from drawprim.c to context.c, and the line
would be
StateTable[STATE_VERTEXSHADERCONSTANT].apply(STATE_VERTEXSHADERCONSTANT,
This->stateBlock, context); . Search for "case CTXUSAGE_DRAWPRIM", and insert
that line after the for loop.
If that fixes the problem, the state is not dirtified correctly. Otherwise,
the code applying the state has a bug.

The dividion by 0 seems to happen in create_cursor in winex11.drv/mouse.c and
the only possible reason is that ptr->bBitsPerPixel is zero. I have no idea why
- this is a standard cursor (hCursorWait = LoadCursorA(0, (LPSTR)IDC_WAIT);
SetCursor(hCursorWait) in comdlg32/filedlg31.c). Could you provide a
WINEDEBUG=+cursor debug trace? It this program available for download?

wined3d: Implement D3DSIO_MOVA in ARB backend.
However, somewhere between 0.9.24 and 0.9.25, this was fixed.
Having said that, there's been another minor visual regression since then,
there's some "noise" near the beginning, and some textures are dark when they
shouldn't be, I'll bisect that regression in a moment (it happened somewhere
between 0.9.28 and 0.9.29).

Mike, I understand your confusion now. The first thing my installer script does
is install MSIE 6 which is needed by MDAC to install which in turn is needed by
Vector NTI, hence this is where JScript comes from. If you just make a plain
wine prefix and install Native MSI and then try to install Vector NTI it will
fail the install with the
Internal Error 2739. OrderAction6

Are there any other error messages? This particular error is present for as long
as I remember, but it (and lots of others) never prevented Oni from running.
Tested it with pretty much every Wine release form 0.9.11 to 0.9.29, and never
had any problems.
My wild guess would be the ALSA driver of Wine, because it is extremely crashy
with Oni. Try setting it to OSS. Although the crash usually occurs 10 - 60
seconds after starting Oni, and it is not exactly silent.

I've done some research (aka Googling) and while there seems to be no real
authority on this, it seems GNOME, KDE, XFCE as well as supporting libs (GTK+)
all think that ~/Desktop and ~ are the only real alternatives, even if others
could be possible.
Given that it's extremely unlikely someone would have a ~/Desktop directory not
used as desktop, just adding a fallback to ~ seems like a good solution.

I've downloaded/run the program. I'll offer my guess at what the problem is.
fixme:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_SetCooperativeLevel (0x128bbd0)->(0x1002e,00000008)
The program uses SetCooperativeLevel with an hwnd of 1002e.
trace:ddraw:DirectDrawCreateClipper (00000000,0x788718,(nil))
---
trace:ddraw:IDirectDrawClipperImpl_SetHwnd (0x1eee20)->(0x00000000,0x000101ec)
Then it creates a clipper, sets it to use a different hwnd from the one it
bassed to SetCooperativeLevel. If it uses SetClipper to attach that clipper to
the primary surface (which I assume it does, but I haven't checked), ddraw
should now draw to the hwnd that's set on the clipper. However, wine continues
drawing to the window it was given in SetCooperativeLevel (which was never
correct to begin with--it should've been drawing to the screen), which is the
wrong one.
That patch won't solve this problem. If anything it'll make things worse by
making ddraw draw to the whole screen instead of the application's client area.
The only way to properly fix this is to implement clippers, but a horribly
broken hack that sets ddraw_window any time you call SetHWND on a clipper may be
enough to get this one app working.

I am a bit ashamed to offer a hack, but... whatever.
Ivan, could you please try this hack-patch from a bug 2082 and see whether it
helps redrawing? In a positive case this bug probably will be a dup of 2082.

I guess this report is about the game called Oni, AppDB [1]. I guess theres is
the only known version of its demo, which is mentioned here: [2], plus two small
patches (one for a game russian release, while another one is for its english
release).
But still, lets wait on Adam to tell us exact version of its game and whether
the demo version gets into exact issue.

Success!! (Partial)
Using native msvcrt the installer works.
MATLAB R14 now runs here, but...
the main GUI still relies on msvcrt to run.
Can I change to using linux Java instead?
Also errors saying "Unable to initialize mwswing package"
and hence "Your MATLAB license will expire in 21 days"

I am not sure the winspool crash occurs exactly in the installer process,
because quite a few paths in the last log contains "Program Files". Maybe it
would be better to close this bug report and enter a new one (about running
already installed app)?

I'd probably do a "+tid,+snoop,+relay,+text,+string,+win,+edit,+msg,+message"
tracing (or one with reduced set of debug flags). Maybe you will see some
windows messages sent to the some edit control and find its name/classname by
looking at the log file.

packing it with gzip and then attach it here.

Summary: DB Reise-Service does not start correctly
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.30.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: monst.oor(a)ntlworld.com
This is the HAFAS-based timetable CD available from the German Railways, version
dated 10.12.2006 - 09.06.2007. When using Wine version 0.9.27 the program ran
almost flawlessly.
After upgrading to version 0.9.30-12.2@i586 via Smart, the DB Reise-Service
programs shows the title page, asking which timetable database I want to use.
When I select the Germany/Europe option the program window disappears but no
timetable enquiry window appears.
Upon using ps -ef, the DB Reise-Service program is still shown as running in the
background but I cannot Alt-Tab to it.
When I launch the program via the command line, no errors messages are given.
I am using openSUSE 10.2 and kernel 2.6.18.6-jen43@x86_64.
