Summary: DB Reise-Service does not start correctly
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.30.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: monst.oor(a)ntlworld.com
This is the HAFAS-based timetable CD available from the German Railways, version
dated 10.12.2006 - 09.06.2007. When using Wine version 0.9.27 the program ran
almost flawlessly.
After upgrading to version 0.9.30-12.2@i586 via Smart, the DB Reise-Service
programs shows the title page, asking which timetable database I want to use.
When I select the Germany/Europe option the program window disappears but no
timetable enquiry window appears.
Upon using ps -ef, the DB Reise-Service program is still shown as running in the
background but I cannot Alt-Tab to it.
When I launch the program via the command line, no errors messages are given.
I am using openSUSE 10.2 and kernel 2.6.18.6-jen43@x86_64.

Drop.desktop: Directory nonexistent
Not so strange, there is no /home/stoffe/Desktop dir: I'm using GNOME (Ubuntu
6.10) and I'm using my homedir as my desktop, not an uncommon setting according
to forums. It's a GConf key for Nautilus at
"/apps/nautilus/preferences/desktop_is_home_dir". KDE has something similar.

Sorry that patch was corrupt, try this one. It's against the latest GIT, but I
don't think mapi32 changed in a while, so it should work against wine 0.9.30
too.

Anyway, patching the game is not sastifying in the goal of wine. There is a bug
in wine, it must be fixed.
In a point of view of users, it is nice that the game plays.
Could you fill the wine appdb (longest journey release), and open a another

The demo fails differently (it seems to use a different version of
InstallShield, as the progress bar of the full game consist of blocks, while
the progress bar for the demo is made of a fully-filled bar). I'm attaching a

But it's great news that the demo works with the git version for you! I hope

It appears that Enno's build has made it into the official patch.
Install the patch from http://www.longestjourney.com/help/patches/ and then the
game will run. (note how the patch changelog doesn't mention builds 158-159 :)
The main menu appears, but once the 3d engine starts working, all I see is
badly-rendered characters on a black background. When the characters move, the
area they were in is not redrawn so they leave a trail behind them.
While the characters animate, wine prints lots of err's and fixme's. Perhaps now
devs can start hacking away :)

simple test
This is the simplest sample to create and display a window from win32 tutorial
site (http://www.winprog.org/tutorial/simple_window.html)
. I put the following extra lines in the code:
SetLastError(0xdeadbeef);
SendMessage(hwnd,WM_NCCREATE,0,0);
printf("%0x\n",GetLastError());
This simple executable runs fine on my WinXp laptop, but wine crashes on it,
similar to Worship Assistant.
When ran in Winxp, you can see that no lasterror ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER is
set, which is somehow suggested in this thread:

would advice you to formally complain at competition authorities as a company.
Or as a private person at the European Consumer Liasion office:

When you don't report it, nothing is documented at the authorities and they
cannot act without a formal complaint. Microsoft is on their watchlist and they

was hoping to build Windows binaries under Wine (using VC++ 7, ie.
nmake+cl+link). "if defined.." occurs in the setenv.cmd file. Bugs #7351 and

Sorry to flood with bugs, but there are a bunch in the installer and I thought
I'd document them (although I have a script that installs it just fine). This is
actually a rather strange error, the installer tries to install MS components it
needs (e.g., MDAC) and then creates an MsiExecuter.lnk file in the StartUp area
of the Start Menu so that the installer will restart when the user reboots (of
course wine currently ignores these files, but this may not be true forever).
In any case, the weird thing is that under wine both with wine MSI and native
MSI the link references C:\rundll32.exe which, of course, does not exist. I
looked through the WINEDEBUG=+msi,+relay logs, and it looks like the installer
is looking in the wrong directory for rundll32.exe (in the case of the wine MSI,
it looks in C:\ which is where the CreateProcess in dlls/msi/action.c creates
processes, in native MSI it creates the link in the current directory, which is
also incorrect) and creates the wrong link. However, interestingly, in Windows
98, it actually finds the _right_ directory and links c:\windows\system32.exe. I
will attach the two lnk files and the output of:
grep -A 1000 -B 1000 rundll32 log
where log is the (very large) WINEDEBUG=+msi,+relay log of running wine setup.exe.
Misha
p.s. since the path is not correct with both wine MSI and native MSI, and is
only correct on a native Windows system (I tested on 98, on XP it does not need
to install these components as they are already there so it is not testable), so
I am putting the bug in wine-kernel as this is where file finding and such seems
to be. Please correct if it is wrong.

Sorry, I think my last comment was not clear. Just to clarify, native MSI
without jscript.dll you get a dialog with the error I described, and then it
quits, so nothing gets installed at all. This is different than Wine MSI with no
JScript, which obviously ignores the fact that JScript is missing so gets
farther into the isntall (I think orderaction6 is a JScript which selects
between web ordering,
no ordering, and some other kind I forget) and "finishes successfully" except
the stuff from the main MSI file which is run last isn't installed and the log
says that in MSI_SetFeatureStates (I think) the action is -1 and "no one wants
component blah" for example "Vnti_modules" which is the main Vector NTI 10
executable.

Alright, if I install native MSI then delete jscript.dll files I get the following
native MSI error:
Internal Error 2739. OrderAction6
However this happens quite early in the install and this is not the really
important JScript anyway (the problem is that there are a lot of "features"
defined but it seems that Wine's MSI is not selecting them to be installed, and
the script in the ExpandFeatList takes the parent features defined in the
FEATLST property and expands all their subfeatures and adds them to ADDLOCAL,
which is the property read that defines what to install as far as I understand;
hence no JSCRIPT, and the features from the main MSI file - there are like 6 or
7 - are missing, hence a bunch of executables and other things are missing).

Will try it. Btw, if anyone wants to play with the installer (there are some
other workarounds needed right now because of the way it tries to install its MS
dependencies, I am going to try it on a clean Win98 system to see if it works
because it seems to me based on a little debugging that it won't be able to
install those dependencies correctly) you can use my shell script:
http://misha680.googlepages.com/InstallVectorNTI10.sh
just comment out the section that installs native MSI and you should be
set. It downloads everything you need (including a demo version of the
program).

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-msi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mk144210(a)bcm.tmc.edu
This is continued from http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6992 as this is a
new bug.
I will copy and paste my analysis from there, and add the appropriate
attachments as well:
Upon further examination I am pretty (90-95%) sure that the lack of JScript
support in Wine MSI is currently the problem leading to the absence of some
features of the install (after applying the appropriate attached patch above to
bypass the "This module is not designed for direct execution" error). Here is why.
"Vector NTI 10.msi" is called with the following parameters:
trace:msi:MsiInstallProductA "c:\\Program Files\\Informax Installations\\Vector
NTI 10.msi" "
FEATLST=\"Vector;ProteinTools;Contig;Alignment;WebConnectivity;Remote_DS;Data;SharedDlls;ShareCommon;Watson;Nautilus\"
ALLUSERS=\"1\" AUTOREMOVE=\"\" DBUPGRADETYPE=\"New\" DLS=\"\" DLSURL=\"\"
EXECDIR=\"c:\\Program Files\\Invitrogen\\Vector NTI Advance 10\\\"
IMEDLL=\"c:\\PROG~FBU\\INFO~M4Y\\ime.dll"...
Note FEATLST which includes Vector. Now if you look at the JScript attachment
and the function ExpandFeatList, the relevant part looks like this:
function ExpandFeatList()
{
//var Installer = new ActiveXObject( "WindowsInstaller.Installer" );
var db = Session.Database;
var FeatLst = Session.Property( "FEATLST" );
var FeatureList;
var Installed = Session.Property( "Installed" );
var result;
var str="";
if( FeatLst!= null && FeatLst != "" )
{
FeatureList = GetArray( FeatLst );
result="";
for( i in FeatureList )
{
str = ExpandOneFeature( FeatureList[i],db );
if( result != "" ) result += ",";
result += str;
}
//WScript.Echo( result );
Session.Property( "ADDLOCAL" ) = result;
}
I guess you'd have to look in the file, but expandonefeature takes all features
and makes a string with their sub-features. Now the "Vector" feature
encompasses, for example the "Vnti_modules" component which has the main program
executable. Hence it is missing. The trick is that the ADDLOCAL is normally
empty (but not in the other MSI files I don't think, which is why other stuff
gets installed) and gets filled in by this JScript.

It's only certain installers. I just tested Battlefield 2 on a clean .wine from
latest GIT and and it still did it.
Basically when the browser comes up to select a folder, don't click any folders,
selecting an existing folder works, it's if you type something out in the entry
bar then ok it then it just ignores you.
I.e. the window comes up with the default address in.
Type something in yourself like C:\Games\Blah
Ok it
It will just ignore what you did and still just show the default path still as
the install folder.
Basically you can only select a pre-existing folder or use the default folder
else it ignores you (in Windows it would say that this folder doesn't exist and
ask if you want to create it).

The patch got into Git so starting from wine 0.9.30 it should be fixed. The
autocomplete list won't show files because of the lack of IACListISF but the
program will not crash.
As for ies4linux, thanks to the famous integration of IE with Windows, IE ships
with many system DLLs that are used instead of the incomplete wine ones. However
IE is oficially a part of Windows (e.g. to install IE7 you need to pass the
Windows Genuine Check) and wine's goal is to start programs without the need of
Windows so this is treated at most as a workaround.

That first screenshot wasn't very good...
I can confirm this in 0.9.30. Curiously, it only occurs if pixel shaders are
disabled: regardless of the vertex shader setting. Sometimes it looks just
fine.

No, you don't need a domino server to reproduce it. You don't even need a mail
database. I only use the mail as an example of a notes application that use a
modal window.
You can see the problem almost everywhere:
- when you write an email, and click on
. "address"
. "delivery options"
. "tools/out of office"
. "send and file"
. even when you cancel an email, the dialog won't have the close button
- Using the file/database/open menu
- On the login screen
- etc...
OK, in every modal I checked, there was always a "Cancel" button that allowed me
to close the windows. But you only have these buttons because the designer of
the database decided to. It's very easy to create a modal window without them...
and that's what we did for one of our home made database. Without that, I would
have probably never see it.
So, i agree. That's not a common case...
I will look at the 6.5 client.

Summary: Lotus Notes: No close button on modal windows
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.30.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: lhervier(a)ifrance.com
When displaying a modal window, the notes client does not show the close button.
To reproduce, you can use the standard mail database:
- download and install the lotus notes 7 evaluation version
- configure the client so it can open a mail box: You can use one of the
following methods
. connect to a domino server
. OR connect to a POP or IMAP account
. OR do not connect to anything, and after the setup is complete, create a
new database (CTRL+n), name it as you want, but select the template named "Mail
(R7)"
- On the mail database, click on "tools/preferences" (the "tools" button is on
the action bar displayed on top of the list of messages)
On windows, you will see a close button.
If using a virtual desktop, wine will also show a close button.
If NOT using a virtual desktop, wine will show:
. a minimize button (that has no effect) if using metacity.
. no button at all if using Emerald.
I will post screenshots of the those cases.
The tools/preference modal window of the mail database is only an easy way to
reproduce the problem... In real world, the user can live with because he can
use the "cancel" button to close the window.
But the notes client can also display modal windows without cancel button.
That's the case for home made databases. I can attach an .nsf file reproducing
the exact problem if necessary.

Ambro, as Vitaliy said, there is no "fallback", but evdev devices are prefered
to joydev. If no evdev is found, but a joydev is, then the joydev will be used.
Try allowing Wine to access the event device, since it behaves very differently
to joydev.

FEATLST=\"Vector;ProteinTools;Contig;Alignment;WebConnectivity;Remote_DS;Data;SharedDlls;ShareCommon;Watson;Nautilus\"
ALLUSERS=\"1\" AUTOREMOVE=\"\" DBUPGRADETYPE=\"New\" DLS=\"\" DLSURL=\"\"
EXECDIR=\"c:\\Program Files\\Invitrogen\\Vector NTI Advance 10\\\"
IMEDLL=\"c:\\PROG~FBU\\INFO~M4Y\\ime.dll"...
Note FEATLST which includes Vector. Now if you look at the JScript attachment
and the function ExpandFeatList, the relevant part looks like this:
function ExpandFeatList()
{
//var Installer = new ActiveXObject( "WindowsInstaller.Installer" );
var db = Session.Database;
var FeatLst = Session.Property( "FEATLST" );
var FeatureList;
var Installed = Session.Property( "Installed" );
var result;
var str="";
if( FeatLst!= null && FeatLst != "" )
{
FeatureList = GetArray( FeatLst );
result="";
for( i in FeatureList )
{
str = ExpandOneFeature( FeatureList[i],db );
if( result != "" ) result += ",";
result += str;
}
//WScript.Echo( result );
Session.Property( "ADDLOCAL" ) = result;
}
So anyone know what the
plans for JScript are in wine?
