James, can you tell me how did you investigate on this? One of an app of my
interest requires vbscript.dll. While my app doesn't require WSH, it does
require IE6, vbscript.dll from which it uses. So I am in guess: does you
statement means native msi uses no vbscript.dll or such?

I should have written a test for Properties earlier, as it shows that they're
not case insensitive, so my patch is wrong.
Looking at the log again, it checks "SOURCEDIR" which should be empty (as
"SourceDir" is the property that is set), then checks "INSTALLDIR" which is
empty, but I suspect should be set.

>From the site admin @ http://www.prairiegames.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1242
<blockquote>"4. Subversion (as a cross platform auto-patching solution): We use
Subversion for versioning control. The merits of version control on a
project are well documented. I am mentioning Subversion in the post mortem for
it's use as a backend to our auto-patching system. I wrote some Python scripts
that are able to build demo/full version distributions from the game's sources
and data files.
The scripts inspect assets like dif/dts to find out what files are needed. They
also open up the RPG Database to find out what textures, sounds, models, etc are
actually used. The scripts generate jpg files from pngs and do other operations
to get the file sizes down. Multiple SHA checksums are then generated for every
file and the results are stored in a manifest.zip file. The client keeps a cache
of local SHA checksums and connects to the game's Subversion repository which is
being served over SSL. It requests the manfest.zip and compares the SHA
checksums with the local ones. The client then downloads any missing or changed
files, verifies them once downloaded, requests the user to restart the
application, and then copies the new files into the install. It's all very anal
and has performed beautifully. It was awesome to painlessly patch users during
the beta process. I don't remember getting one complaint!"</blockquote>
This is, IMHO, something that should work with wine. It's subversion for
chrissakes. Anybody else getting SVN to work with wine, or am I doing something
wrong? Yes, I have tried without any firewalls.

4) Click the information tab.
5) Application will segfault.
You do not need a SlingBox device to test this bug report. For step 2 add your
device with a static IP address, and enter any IP address. The software does
not actually, connect to the device for the menus used in these steps.
* Not that after installing the application you will need to gain a native copy
msxml3.dll. You must then manually register it with regserv32, prior to running
SlingPlayer.exe, or the application will not start.

Neon mail client called MEMO. I opened a bug 6018 which I closed since it was my
first attempt and my environment was quite crappy from wines point of view.
Now I have compiled 0.9.19 and have successfully opend the memoclient.exe! I can
se my mailbox, I see new mails popping in highlited with a new mail symbol in
frontof them, I can even go into the scheduler - highlite a timespan and create
a newevent with memoedit (it failed though with adding other participants (my
machine started to swap as a maniac - we don't use the scheduler so we can live
without it!)). The part that is important is to be able to open the emails with
memoedit.exe or create new ones... But here it crashes with an runtime error as
shown in the screendump I will attach. I believe I have a log as well otherwise
I will recreate the error an later attach the log!

I did a +relay,+seh trace few days ago but removed it accidently. This is
probably a bug in oleaut32. Before the error message box popped up there were
only calls to oleaut32, and after some exception were thrown there was something
about type-mismatch in the trace. If i've more time i'll regenerate trace and

Tried with the suggested parameter in notes.ini, I hope that this is the trace
you're expecting, it doesn't change much from the previous none.
As far as I understand, this parameter allows me to force domino to use the JIT
debugger instead ofstarting NSD after a panic/fault, just for information, when
notes crashes, I don't see the error panel, but wineserver is stalled ... I
have to kill it :-) to be able to restart notes.

It's one of a few popular Chinese stock analysis software, the only one
that currently works sort of with Wine. It is called either jcg_gx or
TDX (not sure in English). Mine is the latest version 5.49 working

Summary: Master of Orion 2 hangs as soon as mouse is moved
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.19.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: lhouk(a)lesliehouk.com
I recently installed Fedora Cora 5 (2.6.17-1.2157_FC5) on my PC, and then
installed Wine (0.9.19) from the Fedora yum repository. I installed Master of
Orion II, and tried to run it. It started OK, but as soon as I moved the mouse,
it seemed to hang. My keyboard and mouse stopped working, and the only way I
could break out was to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and log out. I tried this repeatedly,
and it happened each time.
When MOO2 runs under Wine, it actually has two cursors, the Linux arrowhead
cursor and MOO2's cursor, a pointing hand. When I move the mouse, the Linux
cursor slides across the window just fine, but the MOO2 cursor jerks once or
twice, trying to keep up with the Linux cursor, and then hangs. Maybe the
problem is that Wine gets more requests to redraw the MOO2 cursor than it can
keep up with? (Although it works just fine on the same PC under Windows 2000.)
Are there any WINEDEBUG settings I should try that can help diagnose the problem?
If anyone needs it for testing, a time-limited demo of MOO2 is available from
"http://www.download.com/Master-of-Orion/3000-7564_4-10247352.html". Thanks in
advance to all who respond.

After several tries, I can say that MOO2 no longer crashes under Wine -- in
other words, it never shuts itself down and produces a crashlog. It seems that
the fix in 0.9.18 did indeed take care of this problem. What it is still doing
consistently is hanging when I move the cursor.
Are there any WINEDEBUG settings I should try that can help
diagnose the problem?
Oh, Jesse, I did try running wineprefixcreate, and it doesn't seem to have made
any difference. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

based in the Linux drivers is that if you don't have a proper, up-to-dated,
Linux driver available for your video card at all, then you're totally
screwed... Also, if you're using some weird unknown adapter installed with its
own wierdo video driver, Wine probably won't be able to properly parse it either.
Maybe it could be able to implement some kind of "Virtual Graphics Adapter
Driver" into Wine. This "Virtual GFD" would contain basicaly the adapter's
vendor and driver version, and maybe some adapter capabilities as well, if
that's required by the adapter. These would be the info presented to the Windows
apps when they require it. Also, this "Virtual GFD" should be something as
simple as possible, with just the basics, allowing the community to provide new
versions of existing drivers as well as creating and supporting new drivers as
soon as they're required.
Ok, I'm not sure whether that's a good idea or not, neither if it's possible to
do so. But then I'm not the expert here, I'm just giving away my 2 cents on
this... ;)
Well, thanks for the help. I'm changing the resolution of this thread to FIXED.
Regards,
asm

Yes you should install the binary nvidia drivers to get proper opengl support.
But we should probably rework what driver version we present to windows apps.
For a linux system with the binary nvidia drivers it should already be similar
to windows, but I think for other linux drivers it's not similar at all.

OK, then you're saying that Wine parses my Linux OpenGL video driver and creates
a compatible (emulated) Direct3D-capable Windows driver, on-the-fly, and since
my OpenGL video driver is a Mesa one, then the msg in game about the outdated
video driver... Am I right?... Sorry to be bothering you all but, well, I think
it's better to understand than to just "scream for help"... ;)
BTW, meh, Mesa driver?? Crap, this is something new for me. Thought that Ubuntu
had installed appropriated NVidia drivers "automagically"...
Well, if I got the scene right, I'll update my Linux video driver and the
problem is over. TYVM

About the recently added patch....
Cleaning up header info on WM_NCDESTROY instead of WM_DESTROY allows PAF to
query for the number of columns in the header and save it out to the registry.
It is suspicious that the last 4 events for the HEADER_WindowProc are:
WM_DESTROY
HDM_GETITEMCOUNT
WM_DESTROY
WM_NCDESTROY
So anyway, if it needs more looking into, at least it is narrowed down this much.

No, my gcc doesn't have -fstack-protector turned on.
The point is, we can't setup %gs in wine-preloader, so if -fstack-protector
depends on that, we can't use it for wine-preloader.
If the stack protector code assumes that a program is linked with glibc (which
is unreasonable, imo) then it can't be used with wine-preloader.
If Ubuntu uses -fstack-protector by default, you have to find some way to turn
it off.

Mike, are you sure the stack protector is turned on in the GCC you're using? I
think it might not be in Debian but is in Ubuntu. There's some more information
in the launchpad thread linked above, as well.

Also, I'll note that text can still be selected, cut, copy, and pasted into the
field when it's in this state, even though no typing is allowed. You can even
delete parts of the text through careful use of cut.

In both versions before and after the XEMBED system tray support, setting

program will just minimize normally to the GNOME taskbar, rather than create a
system tray icon and minimize to that.

This bug also appears in the game Icewind Dale I with/out Add-On. But there is
no OpenGL activated or needed. Tested with Wine 0.9.16 - 0.9.19 under Suse
10.1.
The following debug trace was tested with Wine 0.9.19, without any additional
trace-options (please ask for for more info and additional trace options). The
sequence for this test in the game was: start game -> cancel the 3 intros ->
game menu appears (with the system cursor over the game cursor [which is a
colored medieval hand]) -> clicked on exit game -> stop.

This bug is still present in Wine 0.9.19 (tested 0.9.16 also: same bug) on
Suse Linux 10.1. Furthermore the bug exists in Icewind Dale I +Add-On, too,
maybe also in the Baldur's Gate games. There is no big difference between OSS
and ALSA but OSS seems to have fewer stutters. Activating sound emulation will
reduce stutters to an acceptable level, but only deactivating will solve this
nasty stuttering, which makes playing unbeliveable slow.
The following three debug-traces (alsa +wave, alsa +dsound and oss +dsound)
are made with the same sequence:
start game -> canceled the 3 intro movies (here you can already hear and feel
this stutterin) -> game menu appears -> clicked on exit game.

Output of wine when crash occurs
I also have the problem when startin Money 97 (Wine Version 0.9.20, Ubuntu
6.06.1, Kernel 2.6.15-26-386)
The startup-logo of Money 97 is shown, and the first part of the startup-sound
gets played in a loop several times. After that the application crashes.
I've attached all the output wine writes to the console when this problem
occurs.
Hope this is useful.

As I said before its not 100% repeateable, it happens SOMETIMES, one day after
one game, another it can never happen, on the third after 3h of gaming. But
there is easier way too see the bug.
Download http://download.utorrent.com/1.6/utorrent.exe
Run it. Make program window almost full screen on 1024x768 resolution desktop
(will attach screen).
Run Fallout tactics BOS/JA2 ( http://www.download.com/Jagged-Alliance-2-demo/
3000-7562_4-895134.html ).
Look at uTorretns window again - it got cropped to ~800x750 pixel size. So you
can clearly see that running something changing resolution with DirectX in Wine
influences the whole window manager in a weird way.

Summary: Gnome panel messed up after running DirectX games
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.19.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: citizenr(a)gmail.com
Wine Version: 0.9.18-0.9.20, didnt check older ones
I got all my Panel items "locked to panel" yet every once in a while after
quitting DirectX game it gets messed up (panel items are relocated).
Happens with Fallout tactics BOS, and even with Jagged Alliance 2 (which is
weird because that game does NOT work with Wine currently, only changes
resolution and exits imediatelly)
This is propably caused by the change of resolution and inproper handling of
it. Fallout tactics BOS ios set to 800x600, JA2 to 640x480.
Will attach pictures.

I can reproduce this problem with Beyond Compare 2.4.1 and Wine 0.9.20 (CVS)
To reproduce, launch Beyond Compare, and compare two text files. Select any text
line, then double-click on the lower part of the window.
- Expected behavior :
This is an inline-edit, the label containing the text of the line turns to an
editbox which permits to manually modify the line you selected.
- Observed behavior :
The editbox is always empty, where it should contain the actual line text.
- Stderr says :

scrollWidth is width of the page, not what GetSystemMetrics returns.
We need to find a way to get it from Gecko.

Indeed that helps. Just left to get correct hight instead of hardcodding it.
Also probably should use GetSystemMetrics(SM_CXVSCROLL) for width.
