New problem related to this bug:
Wine no longer run DirectDraw apps if opengl is disabled.
basicly Wine just crashes or if using Wine without opengl support apps fails to
DirecX errors.
I know this happen because of this bug but should I submit new bug report since
this problem is more like an desing flaw or side effect?

Summary: Cannot run uninstall for IE6
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.19.
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/forum/viewtopic.php?
t=419
OS/Version: FreeBSD
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P4
Component: wine-winelib
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: strbenjr(a)yahoo.com
Please forgive me if this should NOT have been posted here.
This is NOT an uninstall for IEs 4 Linux... (Instructions for that are in
previous msg)
I tried to directly install IE-6 using the Microsoft installer. (IT didn't work)
(I did not tell Wine to run the installer under Win98 so it used Win2000 by default)
Here is what I found out during my unsuccessful attempt to uninstall IE6:
See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293907
I tried to run the suggested command "w2kexcp.exe" which does exist on my
Wine-C: drive. Here's how:
1. You need a copy of 4 DLL's from Win2000 into your Wine-system32 folder.
- IPHLPAPI.DLL
- imm32.dll
- lz32.dll
- setupapi.dll
2. Open a Shell
3. Run "wcmd" to get a DOS prompt
4. C:
5. cd "c:\windows\IE Uninstall"
6. w2kexcp.exe /u
I don't know how to create an attachment so here is what I got:
%wcmd
WCMD Version 0.9.19
H:\>c:
c:\>cd "c:\windows\IE Uninstall"
C:\windows\IE Uninstall>w2kexcp.exe /u

I can confirm this bug in Photoshop 7.0, using gnome and wine version
0.9.19~winehq0~ubuntu~6.06-2. However, I am fortunate enough that the freeze
doesn't kill my entire system. Everything just freezes for about 30 seconds,
then it either wakes up again or wine dies.
Another aspect of (what I think is) the same bug is that every time I start
photoshop, all of the tool windows are stretched to being a lot higher than they
should be.
Possible resolution: It seems to be less prone to occurring when using wine in
desktop mode, and the tool windows get their correct size.

I can confirm this in gnome, on Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. I get it both using metacity
and openbox as window managers, so it doesn't seem to be a window manager issue.
Perhaps the windows are not being grouped properly?

I checked it's a regession between wine-20050930 and wine-0.9. Could you do a
regression test please to track down the exact patch that broke this game?
Thanks very much

I don't see any reason why the screen should go blank becuse of ddraw, there
are no drawing calls done. Well, we do ddraw when the app requests it,
basically, no matter if it is a simple pop-up or a full game :-)
I don't see how the screen getting black is related to GTA2 though. I didn't
have any problems with the gta 2 manager when I tested it some time ago.
GTA2 should run fine again, on radeon cards you propably have to set
RenderTargetLockMode to none to get decent performance. Otherwise it should
work fine

I did regression test and noted that when Tools.exe, a small popup window from
Sea Dogs CD is is started screen is drawn black and window is drawn after
that.(xranr -s 0 will clean the screen)
I think GTA2 gta2 manager.exe might have the same issue.
-Anyway why d3d is used on simple popup window?

Unfortunately we try to keep only bug reports specific to wine or it's website.
The regression testing with git has a web page because it's useful for debugging
wine. Building git is beyond wine. Maybe you should ask the git people to add to
their documentation. Or you could talk to the debian packagers.

However, I really don't want to know "everything about git"! :-) I use the "how

beyond Wine's scale. It is normal for such specialised howto.

When You compile Git from sources (as suggested in GitWine manual), You need
them. See git's INSTALL for more info. Hint: cannot do "configure" without
autoconf before. Next, documentation needs asciidoc. And needs more than that,
so that I resigned compiling docs for git (in contradiction to manual).
Proxy system variable I consider "must have" for significant part of git users.
And Debian users need to know, that compiling from sources is not the best way
for them.
Please note, that the manual is not for "everyday Git users"; they don't need
it. It is for people like me, that don't know anything about Git, don't WANT to
know either, and are scared enough about it. They need simple HOWTO that will
lead them to regression testing successfully done. Nothing more and nothing less.

I really don't understand You. Would it "contamine" You somehow if the manual
was little more helpful? If You are a big chief, You don't need to look to
manual ever.
If the manual exists, it should be of help for those seeking it. I, being tiny
lame user, am dependent on manuals and any drop of information they provide is
helpful for me. In this case, this issue is all about information NEEDED TO DO
WINE REGRESSION TESTING. How can You say it has nothing to do with Wine, is a
mystery for me.
If the manual is mentioned NOT to help, it should better disappear to avoid
confusion.
As I said, I don't understand Your motives.

Then please, wipe out 80% of documentation for "GitWine", because by the same
logic, it has barely anything to do with Wine.
I wonder, why You are such an enemy to anything that would ease life of those,
who wish to invest their time to Wine debugging.

Besides, such info would be helpful in the GitWine Howto. I sticked with the

better to download the package and install it using dpkg -i <package>), I'd do

I guess Simonas got this one by following official AppDB HOWTO. It seems Ben
Hodgetts and Alexander Nicolaysen Sørnes should be warned to change this HOWTO
either to also include updated compiled version of a hacked ddraw.dll or to
place both old and updated diff-hacks to allow user to compile wine by itself...
But that may be some kind of an offtopic :)
I am looking for an answer about changes from Simonas.

Hi
I'm trying to do regression testing. I have been adviced to the GitWine site.
I have successfully downloaded the git sources, however not all needed packages
for Debian are mentioned on the site: please, add info about autoconf and asciidoc.
I'm connecting thru proxy. Info about exporting proxy settings for system should
take place too.
I successfully compiled everything. However, the biggest problem is to download
local repository. I run git with said arguments, git runs but nothing happens.
It seems that my computer dosen't connect. I must use proxy to go to web, so I
assumed, that I should use http:// instead of git://
I get error message: http transport not supported, rebuild Git with curl support
I cannot find info about compiling git with curl support. Please, add info about
how to do it, cause I'm desperate.

>From Slack 10.2 changelog:

Here's the (I'm sure) long awaited upgrade to Slackware's glibc to
include support for NPTL (the Native POSIX Thread Library). NPTL
works with newer kernels (meaning 2.6.x, or a 2.4 kernel that is
patched to support NPTL, but not an unmodified "vanilla" 2.4 kernel
such as Slackware uses) to provide improved performance for threads.
This says that you need a patched 2.4 kernel. 10.2 came with 2.4.31. It seems
like you did not update your kernel package.

Is anyone going to confirm this bug and try to fix it? The bug is real and I
think you could easily recreate it if you use Visual Foxpro 6. All you need is
an application that uses class objects. Compile it and when you run it, you'll
see that it does not show the objects (they remain hidden). The class object
remains hidden eventhough it's active. As a result you can not close it.

Windows Media Player 9 can now be installed and run using these steps
* Install IE6 SP1
* Add a dll override so it uses native msxml3
* Run WMP9 Setup
However, unless native mlang is used, it does not play any files; it just pops
up a window saying an unknown error has occured.

and not in others (In Ventrilo, it displays in the setup dialog, but not in
any other portion of the program),

Severity: major

ReportedBy: lukas.middendorf(a)freenet.de
When I try to play Star Trek: Armada (the installer does not work, just copy
over the "data" directory and put the dlls from "shared" into it; to start
armada.exe you have to cd into the directory that contains it), the game
crashes in the first mission, when the HUD shows up. The cinematic before that
(it also seems to use the graphics-engine) works perfectly. It takes several
minutes (3-4) to load the mission (on Windows only a few seconds), so be
patient when trying to reproduce the bug.
I have tried wine 0.9.19 compiled from source on a FC5-box.
The the demo (just unzip the installer) sometimes shows the same Problem, but
most of the time the loading screen for the mission does not even appear. If
you wait 5 minutes (about the time the full version should need to load the
mission and play the cinematic), the demo finally crashes like the full
version, but you can not see or hear anything. This may be related to the fact,
that the full version of the game I own comes shipped with the 1.2 patch
applied and the demo should be based on 1.0 .

Yes, the installer works under Windows without any problem.
I have already figured out, that I just have to copy the data directory (and
add the dlls from the "shared" directory into it (at least in the full version
you need to)).
Then the game at least starts, but the animations in the menus are missing and
when the HUD shows up in the first mission, the game throws an exception and
dies. I will fill another bug for this.

Summary: WINED3D regression in AVP2 demo
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: www.gamershell.com/download_8192.shtml
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jeremielapuree(a)yahoo.fr
In AVP2 demo, instead of seeing the marine guy we say only his white shoadow. I
attached a screenshot of what I means. The same bug occurs in the menu screen
with the stellar ship.
This is a regression, since in earlier version of wine, this part of the demo
was fine.
I also attached the console output with winedebug=+d3d,+ddraw,+d3d_caps

Gee, it really looks like anet2.dll is missing. Does this work under Windows?
Try unzipping the .exe, ignoring the installer, and going into the data
directory and just running Armada. When I tried that, I got a lot farther.
(It still didn't play, but it didn't crash straight off, either.)

I'm wondering whether this is the same as another bug I've seen in an
InstallShield-based installer. This had the symptom of having the
ISMsiServerStartup action be called twice (once from the InstallUISequence table
and once from the InstallActionSequence table). I haven't worked out whether
this is expected behaviour or not (or what would stop the ISMsiServerStartup
event failing the second time).

When I got WMP9 working with wine, it could play any mp3 file I threw at it, but
when I tried to add media with File>Add to Media Library>Add Folder, It says it
is searching, but never goes past 0% (doesn't crash, though). When I try by
Tools>Search For Media Files, The window opens but clicking search or even
cancel crashes WMP. The directories I try to add are either a folder with just
mp3's or a folder with subfolders full of mp3's. All of the directories work
fine with WMP7.1, so it isn't them.

Just tested make crosstest on debian sarge. It failed along the way, so I tried
with the unstable mingw32-runtime (Version: 3.9-4). It fails in
dlls/advpack/tests with:
/usr/lib/gcc/i586-mingw32msvc/3.4.2/../../../../i586-mingw32msvc/bin/ld: cannot
find -lcabinet
I also tested make crosstest in dlls/dsound/tests and it also failed. I think
because of:
../../../../../wine-git/dlls/dsound/tests/propset.c:734: warning: visibility
attribute not supported in this configuration; ignored
Perhaps someone can try with the whole mingw32 from unstable, not only -runtime.

Well, that's a blast from the past.
I wrote anet2.dll when I worked for Activision.
Sadly, the interface was not very stable, so you can't
neccessarily grab any old anet2.dll and use it.
But that's ok, the game definitely installs its own copy
(otherwise it almost certainly wouldn't run).
So perhaps it's a bug in the installer under Wine that anet2.dll
isn't installed? I'll try to have a look.
But happily anet is now open source, so if you really need
to, you can build your own anet2.dll. It'd just be a lot of work.
