Summary: WINED3D regression in AVP2 demo
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: www.gamershell.com/download_8192.shtml
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jeremielapuree(a)yahoo.fr
In AVP2 demo, instead of seeing the marine guy we say only his white shoadow. I
attached a screenshot of what I means. The same bug occurs in the menu screen
with the stellar ship.
This is a regression, since in earlier version of wine, this part of the demo
was fine.
I also attached the console output with winedebug=+d3d,+ddraw,+d3d_caps

Gee, it really looks like anet2.dll is missing. Does this work under Windows?
Try unzipping the .exe, ignoring the installer, and going into the data
directory and just running Armada. When I tried that, I got a lot farther.
(It still didn't play, but it didn't crash straight off, either.)

I'm wondering whether this is the same as another bug I've seen in an
InstallShield-based installer. This had the symptom of having the
ISMsiServerStartup action be called twice (once from the InstallUISequence table
and once from the InstallActionSequence table). I haven't worked out whether
this is expected behaviour or not (or what would stop the ISMsiServerStartup
event failing the second time).

When I got WMP9 working with wine, it could play any mp3 file I threw at it, but
when I tried to add media with File>Add to Media Library>Add Folder, It says it
is searching, but never goes past 0% (doesn't crash, though). When I try by
Tools>Search For Media Files, The window opens but clicking search or even
cancel crashes WMP. The directories I try to add are either a folder with just
mp3's or a folder with subfolders full of mp3's. All of the directories work
fine with WMP7.1, so it isn't them.

Just tested make crosstest on debian sarge. It failed along the way, so I tried
with the unstable mingw32-runtime (Version: 3.9-4). It fails in
dlls/advpack/tests with:
/usr/lib/gcc/i586-mingw32msvc/3.4.2/../../../../i586-mingw32msvc/bin/ld: cannot
find -lcabinet
I also tested make crosstest in dlls/dsound/tests and it also failed. I think
because of:
../../../../../wine-git/dlls/dsound/tests/propset.c:734: warning: visibility
attribute not supported in this configuration; ignored
Perhaps someone can try with the whole mingw32 from unstable, not only -runtime.

Well, that's a blast from the past.
I wrote anet2.dll when I worked for Activision.
Sadly, the interface was not very stable, so you can't
neccessarily grab any old anet2.dll and use it.
But that's ok, the game definitely installs its own copy
(otherwise it almost certainly wouldn't run).
So perhaps it's a bug in the installer under Wine that anet2.dll
isn't installed? I'll try to have a look.
But happily anet is now open source, so if you really need
to, you can build your own anet2.dll. It'd just be a lot of work.

Do you have a problem, something that does not work with that app.?
We don't open bug reports for fixme messages (or even error messages) if they
don't display the cause for a problem in an app., as they can be easily found in
the source code (except perhaps if a developer works on it and wants to take
notes or something).

On windows the behaviour is the same. It does not usually show itself, since the
shortcuts installed have set the "run in directory" property to point to the
install directory.
So I guess that this could be classified as a bug in the software. But it also
illustrates a difference in how programs are started in Wine and in real Windows.

I have had a closer look at the demo-installer and have seen, that it is a self
extracting *.zip which includes the real installer. Just rename the demo to
*.zip, extract it, and run setup.exe.
The result is the same, the debug-output is very similar.

Where is the error

I assume that a negative value of maxx causes the problem.

gone, there is no mention of the debugger being started.

Patch accepted,
http://winehq.org/pipermail/wine-cvs/2006-August/025405.html
The app now installs all but one of the missing files, a helper
that gets run during installation. The symptom is the console message
err:msi:HANDLE_CustomType50 Unable to execute command
L"C:\\windows\\temp\\IXP000.TMP\\fisku.exe"
The remaining problem seems minor, as the app now runs, but
we should probably figure this out anyway. I'll attach
a +msi,+file log.

I think this is a bug on it's own. It's not about d3dx9* not being implemented,
but rather the directX 9.0 installer doesn't work. I bought a new laptop with
pre-installed Win-XP a few months ago, and none of those d3dx9* were present.
So the DirectX 9.0 installer should just work in wine, as it does on WinXP, to
install those missing dlls.

I assume the installed version of Bugzilla is 2.14.2.
According to the 2.18 release note of Bugzilla, you need to upgrade bugzilla in
order to use email munging :
http://www.bugzilla.org/releases/2.18/new-features.html#eam
I mean that hacking the installed version would be less efficient than moving to
the latest one.

Hi, this is one of the top-voted apps, i gave it a try and so i thought i file
bug for it. Steps to reproduce:
1. download the trial and find and copy the serial number in the file
/Photoshop\ TryOut/Photoshop\ CS2/Adobe\(R\)\ Photoshop\(R\)\ CS2/Abcpy.ini.
2. When the installer asks for the serial number, navigate with the tab-key into
that field and paste it with ctrl^v.
3. Until bug 5348 is fixed i use following dumb hack to get it installed

4. After installation i can start Photoshop and it seems to work fine. However,
every time i try to run it the second time, the application stops with a message
box that a hardware or system error has occurred. This bug is 100%
reproducable. If i start with a clean .wine again it works fine (e.g. i do 'mv
~/.wine ~/.wine_photoshop' and run 'wine ~/.wine_photoshop/drive_c/Program\
Files/Adobe/Adobe\ Photoshop CS2/Photoshop.exe') When i run Photoshop the 2nd
time like this bug is again present.
Maybe someone could give me some hints to debug this further.

Didn't need to, as it turns out. After some digging,
the key lines in the log (as shown by +relay,+process) are:
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {f5078f32-c551-11d3-89b9-0000f81fe221} not registered

trace:process:CreateProcessW app (null) cmdline L"\"C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft
Money\\System\\dw15.exe\" -x -s 180"
(dw15 is an error-reporting helper app.)
That GUID is associated with msxml3. I figure MS Money would have
installed that if Wine didn't report it had one, and sure enough,
blowing away .wine and reinstalling with
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msxml3=n"
and then running with the same override got past the crash!
So the bug is that our msxml3 implementation isn't complete enough for this app.
(You also have to have the IE6 registry key set for the app to start;
see e.g. http://kegel.com/wine/fakeie.sh.txt)

ReportedBy: wine(a)mail.kilgus.net
I do most of my work on a virtual VNC desktop on my linux machine, which offers
no OpenGL support. DirectDraw apps used to work fine with Wine, but since a few
versions ago they just crash with a null pointer access.
The crash happens at the first strcpy call within IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps
because glGetString returns NULL when the desktop has no GL support.
It can be reproduced using any DirectDraw app on a VNC desktop.

the overridden .dll file stops you from using the audio tab in the winecfg dialog.
You can't check or uncheck the sound drivers. I'm not sure whether or not to
make a new bug report for this . . . or to post it here.

Severity: major
Priority: P3
Component: wine-directx-dinput
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: fyhuang(a)gmail.com
The demo of Heroes of Might and Magic V, after having installed and run with the
"allow window manager to control windows" option unset, doesn't recognize any
keyboard events and seems to only be able to handle mouse left-clicks. All
tooltips show hotkeys as being "MOUSE-AXIS-X", even though in the config file
they are set correctly. Using right-click to rotate the camera and middle-click
to scroll doesn't work. No keyboard buttons work at all, making it impossible to
"press any key" and actually exit the demo (which requires a press of the ENTER
key).
Grepping the output for 'dinput' gives:
err:dinput:DirectInput8Create CoCreateInstance failed with hr = -2147221164; Try
running wineprefixcreate to fix it.

fixme:font:WineEngRemoveFontResourceEx :stub
I noticed the error ever since I compiled and installed Wine 0.9.18. The same
problem exists in the 0.9.19 version. I get the same problems in Visual Fox Pro
6.0 itself. It manifests itself when I try to edit the code of an object like a
form, grid, etc. Instead of appearing, the code window that is to appear remains
hidden, but is available in the window list. The problem also affects other
windows in Fox. After I select a different window it appears, and only after
doing that I can select the window that was to appear in the first place. I hope
that you will be able to recreate this bug and fix it. For me it is a very big
problem, because I use Wine in a small company to run Visual Fox Pro software.
And I'm sure it is a problem for someone else. I hope you will look into it in
the next version.

offers ftp://ftp.adeptscience.co.uk/pub/ChemOffice/con902.exe

We probably need to get both working, so I'll leave this one reopened.
Also, con902.exe sounds more closely related to the original app, con90.exe,
than does the new con100.exe.

I found a demo available at the following location but could not get wine to run
the exe:
http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/sw1phantommenace/tpmdemo.exe.html
The file command (on Mandriva 2006.0) reports the following on tpmdemo.exe:
tpmdemo.exe: PE executable for MS Windows (GUI) Intel 80386 32-bit,
InstallShield self-extracting archive
Also, I attempted using native dinput.dll but this caused the debugger to go
into a loop (or spawn multiple debug threads). Last output from debugger was as
follows:
WineDbg starting on pid 0xf4
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000179 in 32-bit code

Turn on the "show dot files" option on the drive tab and I believe it will work.
Mine did the same thing using the latest version of DVDshrink on wine 0.9.19
until I turned this option on and now it works and backs up DVDs both encrypted
and unencrypted.

Confirmed Louis has fixed the problem with his .dll file. You can contact me for
instructions and a copy of the .dll file. I'll update the app database with
these instructions as well.
Hopefully, in future releases of wine, we'll see this fixed w/o any addtional
steps required.

Summary: Problem with resizable windows
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.19.
Platform: PC
URL: http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?appId=2029
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: test
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: MagicMan07(a)bluebottle.com
The following was reported by beta(a)pokerstars.com as to why the new resizable
windows feature of PokerStars doesn't work with WINE:
"Apparently, the problem is that WINE doesn't send to the application the
following messages:
WM_ENTERSIZEMOVE
WM_EXITSIZEMOVE
WM_GETMINMAXINFO"
Here is the workaround that was suggested:
"While officially WINE is not supported, there exists a setting in Stars'
USER.INI that might help WINE users:
====================================
[options]
f5redrawtable=1
====================================
Try to add it to USER.INI and press F5 after resizing (won't work properly if
window resized beyond min/max size, but otherwise works Ok)."
Confirmed it works with WINE 0.9.19 using Slackware 10.2(stable). Hopefully this
information will be of use to get program windows to resize correctly.

Notice something change between wine version 0.9.16 and 0.9.17 with how the
mouse input is handled for the game Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menance.
In wine version 0.9.17, the character controlled by the mouse and keyboard spins
in a counter clockwise rotation and is uncontrollable. In wine version 0.9.16,
this issue did not occur and the character controlled by the mouse and keyboard
moved as expected. I attempted looking at a source diff between the two
versions but could not locate this issue.
BTW, I confirmed the issue is still in wine version 0.9.19 (latest version at
this time).
Also, I'm guessing this has something to do with directx. If you need any
additional information then let me know.
