Sveikas, Simonai,
now you seems to be running Diablo1 right from the GUI of your filemanager,
right? It would be more usefull for us getting you to run Diablo from a
terminal window, to get Wine output to a file and to attach this file to the bug
report.
For example I am running the game this way:
$ /usr/src/wine-git/wine /home/s2/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Diablo/diablo.exe
It runs fine here and gives me only ~7 lines of output. Waiting for the output
from your linux box. Attach it, please. Do not paste in! :)

| The application doesn't return a brush handle, but some other value.
| This is a bug in the application.
Well, couldn't this value be a valid brush handle if the program was running in
native Win16 environment? I mean, couldn't brush handle generation for Win16
apps be broken in Wine?
Well, the behaviour should be tested in native Win16, but now I have no way to
do that.
| Now the whole fill function fails because the brush is invalid.
| So this is an application bug. I'll try to create a patch that makes Wine look
| better in this case.
Well, it would be nice, as XP still fills the background by one color or another...

Ah, I just didn't wait long enough last time.
It takes over a minute to compute the needed space,
and another twelve minutes to really install!
But it does seem to install ok.
(You need mfc42 to run some of the apps it installs, but that's not too surprising.)
I think that dialog box has to go away, and things need to be sped up a bit,
before we can say this installer runs well, but I guess that's a different
bug.

I fired up top in the background and watched the cpu load in today's git vs
0.9.15, which turned up some curious results...
In both cases, S4_Main.exe would consume ~80% of one CPU, however, in today's
git, that's all it takes.
In wine-0.9.15, X also consumes ~20% of a CPU and wineserver consumes 5-10% of
a CPU.
None of these numbers seem to changed when switching resolutions in game.
I also tried forcing the CPUs to 1 Ghz (down from 2.2 Ghz), and the game
seemed about equally slower (not very much, maybe 10-20%) in both cases, I
didn't notice any real difference in speed between the two Wine versions here
either. CPU load stayed similar to before, except in 0.9.15, S4_Main.exe was
consuming 100% of a CPU.
For reference, I've been opening the demo, clicking on single player and
picking the first map it shows me, perhaps other maps are slower? Do you
experience this problem on that map too?
I've also been testing with a fresh ~/.wine, have you changed anything there?

I don't know what you are talking about. I did not delete your submission.
So what you are saying is that using ALSA is linked to it. Ok, but that is not
what bug 3978 says. It says it is caused by a break down of IPC. It happens with
both OSS and ALSA. Also, bug reports are not really for simple suggestions. If
you want to prove why ALSA works and OSS doesn't so we can fix it go right ahead
(in bug 3978). Provide crash info so we can actually fix something. If you want
to make suggestions or test reports go do it in the AppDB, which is what it's
for. We don't want useless info filling up bug reports, because it gets hard to
decipher what is actually correct information.
I referenced bug 3978, which is the actual bug number (this is a dupe). Don't
post in CLOSED bugs.

I know, I am able to read and to understand what people just said. I had EXACTLY
the same problem that is described in messages #1 and #8. The game was crashing
when I was clicking on "Travel to East", even if I could finish without any
crashes the first chapter, and the window "Hey guys"/"We
got a big error here :(" was displaying. I could also view each video seperatly
by clicking the good button in the main menu of Diablo II.
For some reason, I am not playing with the sound activated (even if it works). I
played Diablo two days ago, yesterday and today, and I can confirm again that
the game does not crash when you click on "Travel to East" with Warriv in the
first chapter after you enable the OSS sound server in WineCFG.
Maybe this issue is caused by a "check" that Diablo II makes, or something else.
The point is that it DID fix this bug.
You already deleted my submission of Diablo II working on Redhat Enterprise
Edition WS 4, even if I'm playing with it nearly every day. I don't know what is
going on here, but you are not really encouraging people to post and help the
community. This is a shame for skilled developpers like you.
But I still hope that users will find a fix of this problem here.

I have found the problem: The edit box wants to know the background color and
sends a WM_CTLCOLOR message to the parent window. The application doesn't
return a brush handle, but some other value. This is a bug in the application.
This is the code how it was before my patch:
SelectObject(dc, brush);
Rectangle(dc, rc.left, rc.top, rc.right, rc.bottom);
The SelectObject() will fail, because the brush is invalid. But there will
still be an old brush selected in the DC, and this brush is used to paint the
background.
The new code:
FillRect(dc, &rc, brush);
Now the whole fill function fails because the brush is invalid.
So this is an application bug. I'll try to create a patch that makes Wine look
better in this case.

This installation has two packages to install, the jdk and the jre. The jdk
extracts a file, other.zip, that is also needed by the jre install. The
RemoveFiles action is called by the second package installation, and we
mistakenly remove other.zip in Wine. When we get to the InstallFiles action, we
find that other.zip is missing, so we try to extract it from jo150000.cab, which
doesn't exist and we fail. What should happen is that other.zip should never be
removed, and therefore we won't try to extract that file from the missing
cabinet. I've sent in a test case for this behavior.

All of the install files needed for the installation of Ability Office reside on
the server where the remove msi package is downloaded from. We need to download
these cabinets before trying to extract from them. I'm not sure what signals
this behavior. The signal might be that we already downloaded from said server,
so if we can't find the cabinet in the filesystem, download it from the server.

When I run the app with WINEDBG=relay, I can see the strings for the tooltiptext
being loaded/parsed with Multybyteconvert().
Running with NATIVE comctl32 I can see the tooltipwindow being drawn twice (once
blank and small, then the correct size and with text). Running with BUILTIN
comctl32 it seems to be drawn only once.
I tried running with winedbg instead of wine, but then it crashes. (maybe some
anti-debug code?)

Hm, strange. The first bad ptr (0x000000b4) looks like a NULL pointer access.
The seconde one (in the backtrace) looks random, and the crash is unfortunately
in the app rather than in wine.
I'm still not seeing it. Then again, I'm using some mishmash of CVS versions.
Can you build wine from more recent source, and try with that? If that doesn't
work, try an older version and see if it helps. Thanks for helping track this down.

One should investigate what Windows does with 16-bit EXE files: Are they kept
open or are they closed after the program has been loaded?

Yes, Mike, it is available. Michael is partially right. Once I asked makers of
this dict. to sell this old version so I can debug it legally (I was using an
cracked version for a while), but they replied about not supporting and not
selling such old version. So I guess, you can download it by not making any
harm to a company.
If that's sufficient to put a link into Bugzilla, give me a note.

I do indeed have both those registry keys. To generate the log attachment I simply opened a shell, started "script SL.log" to save it all, then did wine "c:\program files\secondlife\secondlife.exe"
Once the login screen was up, I hit F1, and crash.
Normally I have the problem in-game, when I miss the Esc key and nick F1 with the side of my fingertip, and in those cases I'm running by double-clicking the SL icon on my KDE desktop.
winedbg is in my path.

Summary: EU Playonline Viewer Crash
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: speedy.sf(a)free.fr
When following the howto at http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=5342
, the European version of Playonline Viewer crash when trying to run it after
update was made.
It appears that in the Usa version, this doesn't happen,
A big difference between European and Usa versions are the dll ( which we need
to register ) which are called appEU.dll and polcoreEU.dll instead of app.dll
and polcore.dll.
I reproduced the problem with Wine 0.9.17, 0.9.18 and the CSV snapshot.
I'm using Ubuntu Dapper ( 6.0.6 ) and tried with kernel 2.6.15-23-686,
2.6.15-26-386 and 2.6.17.3
If i override imm32, application still crash but at another point.

It is very noticeable when scrolling and dragging the mouse. When I create a

while in 0.9.15 it was completely smooth. The unit animations are not quite
right either, I think; though I am not sure.

Summary: Weird buttons behavior - just sometimes clickable (10%)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.18.
Platform: Other

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: svzj(a)centrum.cz
The side toolbar buttons in SWiSHmax exhibit very odd behavior: when the cursor
is over, they quickly witch between ative and inactive state with every mouse
move. If you try to click on them, it's like playing a roulette - if you're
lucky enough, the button switches to the selected state, but most tries will
fail (I believe, they are clickable only when in active state (3d effect)) You
can see a short video, where I'm trying to click on the bezier tool button on
http://public.toh.cz/funky_buttons.mpeg but the framerate is low compared to the
button blinking frequency. The same problem applies to most checkboxes in
SWiSHmax. No information goes to the terminal, other applications seem unaffected.

In a case someone will be interested in analysis of StartUML Code. By looking
at StarUML repository via WebCVS you can see this:
* PDiagramViewAuto.ExportDiagramAsMetafile(FileName) procedure [1] calls
* StarUMLApplication.SaveDiagramImageToMetafile(ADiagramView, FileName,
Enhanced) [2], which basically does
* AMetafile := MetafileFromDiagram(ADiagramView, False, Enhanced) and calls
* AMetafile.SaveToFile(FileName) .
* MetafileFromDiagram() uses [3] quite a few TMetafileCanvas methods. And most
interesting place IMHO is this:
12131 AMetafile := TMetafile.Create;
12132 AMetafile.Enhanced := Enhanced;
... ...
12145 AMetafileCanvas := TMetafileCanvas.Create(AMetafile, AMetafile.Handle);
12146 ACanvas := PCanvas.Create(AMetafileCanvas);
12147 try
12148 ACanvas.ZoomFactor := ZoomFactor(100, 100);
12149 ACanvas.Font.Height := -13;
12150 ACanvas.Font.Name := 'Verdana';
12151 ACanvas.OriginX := - ARect.Left;
12152 ACanvas.OriginY := - ARect.Top;
... ...
12159 end else ADiagramView.Draw(ACanvas);
12160 Result := AMetafile;
Though I still would need a help from Delphi wizard to convert this to plain
WinAPI ;-) to make a proper testcase.

I'm not sure this is a wine bug. According to this site,
http://www.ndis.com/faq/QA05040101.htm
the function is not reliable and shouldn't be used. (I've found the author to
be authoritative on anything windows networking related in the past. OTOH, much
of the information on this page is rather old.)
MSDN does seem to imply that ping is in fact used. To quote:
"If lpszUrl is non-NULL, the host value is extracted from it and used to ping
that specific host.
If lpszUrl is NULL and there is an entry in the internal server database for the
nearest server, the host value is extracted from the entry and used to ping that
server."
So I'm closing this as invalid. If you can demonstrate that windows uses
something other than ping with a sniffer trace, reopen and attach that.

To get it to work with current git:
reverted f84fa0ce6354827d6b2396ca3119c9a8bb7efcfb (to prevent regression in msi,
different problem)
made new .wine with HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer stuff according to
http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys
installed turbo lister (after it finished IDriver.exe was stuck, killed it)
changed win ver to nt4 and made msxml3 native (probably should have done that
before installing turbo lister as it registers msxml3 and ships a native version
and calls regsvr32 but it uses the builtin version; builtin seems not to
register certain classids) in winecfg
installed mdac 2.5SP3
regsvr32 /i msxml3.dll
now it starts up (but it realy takes its time)...
Is it our fault that it does not work with newer mdac? What is the problem?
We need to register those class-ids in our msxml3.

Shortly after running the program the whole screen goes black. It appears to be
something with the color pallet of the program causing the screen to go black
and all the windows to disapear. The C64 display screen does display however
there are no borders around the window. If we move the mouse above the area
right above the C64 display screen the window appears for a very short period of
time. However the program is hardly useable.
This program is a free download you can download it and test it if you wish. It
would be nice to have this program working as I would like to play the Commodore

Ok, OpenGL mode works with these games and fixes the crash, from Roderick:
"Hi,
Users of Geforce-GeforceFX cards can improve the performance of StarCraft a lot
(starting from Wine 0.9.19 or Wine CVS from August 1st or later) by adding some
new registry options. Set the option
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Programs\Wine\Direct3D\DirectDrawRenderer to 'opengl' (if the
Direct3D key doesn't exist add it). Further you need to set the option
'Direct3D\RenderTargetLockMode' to 'readtex'.
The rendering performance should be VERY fast in 24bit mode now, it should reach
DGA speeds. In the near future I will add similar fixes for other cards to
improve performance but the boost will never be as big as for these old nvidia
cards using GL_EXT_paletted_texture support.
BTW note that the options I provided are now set for all applications, the
options won't work fine for all apps yet so add some application specific
options. (HKCU\Software\Wine\AppDefaults\starcraft.exe\Direct3D)
Roderick"
Unfortunately Starcraft is slow with ATI. But battle.net works now. Diablo is
fast already.

Whether the error shows up or not depends on where you are when starting the

run 'wine <exename>', you get proper text. If you are in any other directory and
say 'wine <path to exename>', the text boxes are empty as described above.

Through Thief (ttlg.com) forums found a patch made for Thief Gold under windows
- because nvidia's drivers did not correctly report texture memory.
Judging by developers' notes this problem still exists (?)

Dupe. Wine no longer support the old threading style. You need tls and you can
upgrade to slack 10.2 to get it officially. Also see bug 5836.

the PlayOnline Viewer and Tetra Master and they drop at random times between one
hour and immediately after access the PlayOnline service. The command was

Not that I saw. Which WINEDEBUG setting do I use to generate the backtrace? I have tried +relay, but that keeps SL from starting (apparently). +all,-relay also appears to keep SL from starting. Both of those appear to put SL into an endless loop, and prevent the login screen from coming up.
Please advise on how to generate the backtrace.

Wine on FreeBSD 4.x is no longer supported because of lacking threading
support.
In case somebody wants to give it a try anyway, the specific problem here is
that the -pthread option is missing which would be necessary to link against
libc_r instead of libc.

byte fusion telnet server is administered via a control panel applet.
When coaxed properly, the control panel applet does run, and starts the server.
But there are multiple problems:
1. 'wine control' doesn't see the applet by default, and exits complaining there
are none. You have to do
cd .wine/drive_c
cp Program\ Files/BFtelnet/telm.cpl windows/system32/
before control will show the applet.
2. Quitting the control panel (even immediately after starting) causes a crash:

This same crash happens if you try to be sly and invoke the applet
without running wine's control:
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/BFtelnet
wine rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL telm.cpl
3. You can't leave the applet by pressing 'OK' or 'Cancel',
you have to click the 'x' on Control itself (leading to the crash).
