Not that I saw. Which WINEDEBUG setting do I use to generate the backtrace? I have tried +relay, but that keeps SL from starting (apparently). +all,-relay also appears to keep SL from starting. Both of those appear to put SL into an endless loop, and prevent the login screen from coming up.
Please advise on how to generate the backtrace.

Wine on FreeBSD 4.x is no longer supported because of lacking threading
support.
In case somebody wants to give it a try anyway, the specific problem here is
that the -pthread option is missing which would be necessary to link against
libc_r instead of libc.

byte fusion telnet server is administered via a control panel applet.
When coaxed properly, the control panel applet does run, and starts the server.
But there are multiple problems:
1. 'wine control' doesn't see the applet by default, and exits complaining there
are none. You have to do
cd .wine/drive_c
cp Program\ Files/BFtelnet/telm.cpl windows/system32/
before control will show the applet.
2. Quitting the control panel (even immediately after starting) causes a crash:

This same crash happens if you try to be sly and invoke the applet
without running wine's control:
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/BFtelnet
wine rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL telm.cpl
3. You can't leave the applet by pressing 'OK' or 'Cancel',
you have to click the 'x' on Control itself (leading to the crash).

In 0.9.18 and current GIT (2006-08-08), the game only shows a black screen, and
an internal error message from the game is hidden behind it.

Summary: mciavi32: unimplemented kernel32.IsWoW64Process
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.18.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.2
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: alex(a)thehandofagony.com
Currently, Worms 2, and many other games that use Microsoft AVI for films,
fail to play these because of Wine's implementation of mciavi32.dll. Â If I
try to use the native version of this file, Wine gives the following.
wine: Call from 0x73629dd0 to unimplemented function
KERNEL32.dll.IsWow64Process, aborting
Uncommenting the line
# @ stub IsWow64Process
in dlls/kernel/kernel32.spec (which was suggested on wine-users) still gives
the same error.

David, the memory locations don't matter because that is given to us slightly
randomly by the memory manager. What we do know with both types of crashes is
that it is both in the same surface memory and it is past the end of buffer.
Approximately start_location+640*480+some_extra_bytes (now).

David Creswick, remove sserife.fon and try again. Usually in /usr/share/wine/fonts.
Note, I'm updating this bug to clarify this is the /older/ crash. This has to be
especially true for the original reporter since he reported it far before the
ddraw rewrite. This crash only shows up since 0.9.10 however.
Also, this has nothing to do with fontforge, freetype, etc (proved with help
from Saulius). And the extra 4-bytes patch from Stefan does nothing with or
without. You can remove sserife.fon in older versions and these screens will not
crash.
Alternative solution, run with DirectDrawRenderer = opengl. Doesn't show
anything, but doesn't crash.

There do appear to be two bugs here when you try to play battle.net. The first is
...
Unhandled exception: page fault on write access to 0x7d44c000 in 32-bit code
(0x7e010594).
...
I tried versions 0.9.15, 0.9.14, 0.9.12, 0.9.11, and 0.9.8 (all from
snapshot.debian.net) and they all pagefaulted. This went away when I updated to
0.9.18, so I guess it's fixed already. I am now running the binary package
distributed by winehq. The second bug is also a pagefault, but at a different
location in memory suggesting it is a separate issue:
...
Unhandled exception: page fault on write access to 0x0129c000 in 32-bit code
(0x003e0494).
...
This one went away after I copied over the windows/fonts directory from a
windows 95 install. Is there any more info I can provide that would help with
the font issue?

I just noticed RozenMugen works just fine. In fact, there was a Linux binary...
silly me.
However, there is a more significant problems that seems to be universal. Many
DirectDraw games will now display a black screen instead of the original
picture. It works with older version until 0.9.15. The affected program
included azutama (http://egs.cug.net/circle/azutama.html), kioh, and others.
azutama should be a good game for debugging this problem since that game works
for very early version as well (I think it was version 2005 or 2004). But now,
it just gives black screen.
Here's the error log for azutama:

That's called "debug information" and you stripping it (run `file ntdll.dll.so`).
Also please do not paste backtraces. Attach them instead. It's already
impossible to see what is the bug is all about.

You trying to compile Wine as 64-bit. That doesn't work: Bug 4594
You probably want to compile 32-bit Wine: http://wiki.winehq.org/WineOn64bit
Or better yet use provided SuSE binary rpms.

I don't think that's likely to help since it worked before 0.9.16 (but I guess
it could..maybe the new ddraw is choosing the wrong window to draw to).
You could try setting "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D" to "gdi". If
the program requests 3D (as it appears to based on the log, although I'm not
sure I know how to read that properly), the new ddraw will use the opengl
backend, which isn't complete. The gdi backend is more like what it was before.

This bug should have been marked as resolved a while back. It's been a
non-issue since about version 13. No library overrides are presently
required other than 'usp10.dll' which addresses a different issue.
As far as I know there is only one open bug that relates to PAF 5.2.
And that's an issue with PAF and Wine not talking to each other about
registry data updates.
Since Wine will not recognize my login information anymore I can't fix
it. Would you please post for me?
RHETORICAL QUESTIONS:
Why does every web site insist on a user id and password which seem to
be of absolutely no value to anyone on the face of the earth????
Once a potential user has jumped through the appropriate hoops to
satisfy the site why the &^%# can't it remember a user's login data????
I wrote it down first then entered the data into the site so I know it's
a Wine side issue!

I do not get the texture limitation problem mentioned above. I have a GeForce
6600GT 256MB, and the game only requires GeForce 2 or 3.
When I attempt to play a game (that is, the main menu and such work), the game
window resizes from full-screen to an unmanaged window covering most of the
screen. Then, the progress bar goes for some time and stops (it is not
possible to see whether it reaches 100%). The game hangs at this posotion.
The following message is repeated at the end, before I aborted the game

Created an attachment (id=3194)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=3194&action=view)
WINEDEBUG="+relay" test log file
This is a +relay test I did running the setup for Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.
One thing to note is this:
000d:Call kernel32.CreateFileA(0033820c
"Data11.cab",80000000,00000005,00000000,00000003,00000000,00000000)
ret=7edaaa28
These lines will continue in a loop once the error occurs. The very first cab
file the setup will extract will show the same two lines except that the full
path of the cab file will be used like so;
000d:Call kernel32.CreateFileA(0034f4b8
"Z:\\full\\path\\to\\Data1.cab",80000000,00000005,00000000,00000003,00000000,00000000)
ret=7edaaa28
I think this could be part of the problem. This would explain why placing every
cab file the installer needed in the same directory and running the setup in
that same directory will work. Since you would be in the directory with all cab
files, "Data11.cab" and so on would always be found. This is also true for
Half-Life 2 and other games that contain multiple cab files and install discs.
There's still the issue of games/software with cab files in multiple
directories or install discs. Even if the full path to each cab file is
spelled out, cab files on other discs would never be found since the discs they
reside in are not mounted.

Ok, the video thing was my bad, my MODES line in xorg got wiped somehow.
Anyways, this bug is technically fixed because the game starts now but crashes
on the menu (which is a different bug, not this one) so this regression got
fixed somewhere along the way.

Wai Ling Tsang, function parameters aren't displayed in your backtraces.
Possibly this is due to building Wine without debug info or stripping it away
after your binaries have been built. Are you building it from the source, Wai
Ling Tsang?

The problem stems from ME_MoveCaret being run with paragraphs marked for

Each time I start Steam and when it takes long time to launch, it crashes right
after "Updating Steam" window opens up. No account required. It will crash

This is some-what hard to reproduce. You need to "delay" startup process. For
example with newly compiled Wine. Or after a reboot.
The "fastest" way I found is to run some app that takes all memory and clears

Yes, fresh wine works.
But when I use registry files that points to some applications, default font
get corrupted. But only a default font. When I blindly enforce other font
in text editor it is displayed correctly.
I am using wine for a while and this configuration works up to 0.9.10. Then
something goes wrong and default font corrupted and I don't know which registry
item edit to fix it. Even when I revert to 0.9.10, default font was corrupted.
May be, that this is bug, I don't know.
I cannot test latest wine release because of this:

But beware, I know very little about the internals of wine, this just solved my
problem (sry, after viewing my last post, I'm now aware of that).
using riched32.dll means (using winecfg) make a library override and change it
to "native" or "native before built-in" after copying your riched20.dll into
your wine: windows/system32 directory.
This will also cause you to get the missing msls31.dll which you should also
copy into your windows/system32 dir.

This worked for me (Ubuntu 6.06 with latest wine):
winecfg
Libraries tab
New override for library:
select riched20 and change it to
use native first or only native.
This way wine will let the application use it's own richedit,
or if you copy your riched20.dll (from a windows it could use
that).
Good Luck.
