The problem is the X series are extremely common in laptops (me included), and
people cannot replace or change their video card.
There is another report of someone running an X600 with the same problems, with
title: "opengl=system hang. other=bad graphics"
My video card is fine otherwise, runs Warcraft III and other games without problems.

My guess is that this is related to the Radeon x300 & x800 cards. Radeon 8550,
9000, 9550, etc users have not reported these problems. So maybe its specific to
the Radeon Xxxx series cards, however I could be completely wrong.
You could confirm by buying a $30 ATI 9550 or higher which is known to work
fine, if your desperate to get the game running.
In the meantime you could try disabling all the shader effects in config.wtf
prior to running the game to see if that works.
Maybe wine can be patched to overcome this problem on these particular cards

I'm relatively sure that the bug exposed by the ws2_32 sock test ("Test failed:

when the timeout occurs, that is why war3 doesn't notice the timeout on wine.

I think I've found a way to solve the problem.
I have the french version so I am not sure the following names are those used in
the US version.
If you want to use unicode with dreamweaver :
- go to Settings->New Document and select UTF-8 as default codepage
- go to Settings->Fonts : be sure that fonts parameters are set to Unicode and
(the most important) DON'T use dynamic font mapping.
Now test and report if you still have this bug.

The program Import2000.exe is used to import database from old DOS version of
the program WinAmbulancia (see AppDB). Technically, it converts DBF to MDB.
Program starts and seems working, however after some hour of work, it stops with
error.
Even under Windows, the import of 60MB database takes 40 minutes, so something
over an hour under Wine seems alright.
Since without the database converted there is not much to do with the main
program (WinAmbulancia), I mark it as major.
Error might be connected to ole or imm.

Well, you could try the strace method described above:
$ WINEDEBUG=+all strace ./wine notepad &> strace_wine.txt
$ cat strace_wine.txt | grep -v ^[^a-z] | grep -C10 /hda[^0-9] &> hda.txt
"hda" string in the 2nd command is a name for the disk which MBR gets corrupt.
Of course, the 2nd command may need more tuning, but I'd give it a try. Attach
resulting hda.txt file (or compress it before, if it gets large).

You know that. You use app that depends on the latest patches in Wine, so that
You cannot use old distributional packaged Wine. You must compile it Yourself
from the very fresh source.
Although the very compilation is quite flawless and well documented, I still
lack a full list of libraries needed.
Many problems I have reported have been solved by simple installing a library
before compilation. The .configure log isn't very clear about what he is "just
murbling himself" and what is a "real complaint".
Please, could somebody create FULL list of libraries that some part of Wine
depends on?
Could somebody put this list directly to the Wine Users Guide, chapter regarding
the compilation process?
So far, I have identified these packages (Debian): fontforge, libfreetype-dev,
xlibs-dev, libcupsys2-dev, libttf-dev, libungif4-dev
Please, pretty please, make the full list and publish it bravely in User's
Guide. I will be the first one who will read it and add the apt-get install
command to my custom compilation scripts.

Piero Proietti kindly put together a minimal test for ADO,
which I will attach. All it does is try to use ADO to create
a trivial XML "database", save it to disk, then remove the one record.
Although the program thinks it creates the database
ok, the .xml file it creates looks like garbage under Wine,
and the app can't append a record to the database.
The app is a console app, and it's quite possible to use +all with it;
the resulting log is only 15MB.
To reproduce, you'll need:
- the IE 6 registry key (see http://kegel.com/wine/fakeie.sh.txt),
- the vb6 runtime
- mdac 2.6
The command to reproduce (once the above are installed) is:
wine gmdAF.exe

Summary: ADO no worky
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download, NoAppDBEntry
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
Piero Proietti kindly put together a minimal test for ADO,
which I will attach. All it does is try to use ADO to create
a trivial XML "database", save it to disk, then remove the one record.
Although the program thinks it creates the database
ok, the .xml file it creates looks like garbage under Wine,
and the app can't append a record to the database.
The app is a console app, and it's quite possible to use +all with it;
the resulting log is only 15MB.
To reproduce, you'll need:
- the IE 6 registry key (see http://kegel.com/wine/fakeie.sh.txt),
- the vb6 runtime
- mdac 2.6
The command to reproduce (once the above are installed) is:
wine gmdAF.exe

OK, with wine from git today this works;
the user still steems to have to cick on "notes client" in the installer
to ask for the client to be installed (should be default),
but other than that, just picking default of everything
seems to yield a working installation..

Here is the wanted trace of Tron2.0 demo with winedebug channels d3d and tid.
Note that sound, music and hardware sound must be disable in option menu,
otherwise the demo crashes before the wanted wined3d crash.

At least with the full version, you have to tab into the serial number field
since it does not take focus upon clicking it. I will try to attach a full wine
and msi log later today.

I hope this is what you were looking for, I am not a coding literate type so

had the same problems with wine 9.17 so I am trying to find ports of previous
versions if and at what point this stops.

Please don't paste backtraces, attach them instead.
Attach _full_ backtraces - do not remove anything. Also include command line you
use to start program.
What Wine version? If not latest, please upgrade and re-test.
If still doesn't work - do regression testing to find exact patch that broke it.

Problem persists in Cave Story, in Wine 0.9.18. Research into the game has shown
that in order to play its music (and some sound), it stretches/compresses
waveforms. This is very likely linked to the errors produced.

Tried it today and it worked. I went to post in here about it working now but
couldn't find this bug, heh. It half world and half doesn't.
If the navigator is currently as, say, C:\Windows and I type C:\Games\Stuff it
will default back to what it was if I click ok, BUT if I navigate to C:\Games
first and click Games (so the entry bar changes to C:\Games itself) and then add
stuff to the end (making it C:\Games\Stuff) it will then keep that if I ok it.
So at least now it's doable, you just need to navigate to the parent folder with
the window first.

If i open the inventory, after approx. 2 seconds the Game crashes with a
"Unhandled page fault". If i swap to the Inventory and swap back fast enough it
does not crash, so the cause of the crash must be something that happens shortly
after the opening.
In the version 0.9.17 it worked without problems.

I'm using Wine 0.9.18. on Ubuntu using the package from
http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt. With "Marco Polo Großer Reiseplaner", the
display of the street names isn't correct. As you can see on the screenshot
which I'll attach, the street names are printed on a grey box if the street name
isn't printed strictly horizontal. I'd guess there's some sort of problem with
the handling of the Alpha channel.
I also had this problem with Wine 0.9.13. on Gentoo Linux.

I ran it as root to be sure i don't get any troubles(no luck), this also
happens as a normal user.
A early wine 0.9.17 (fedora extras wine 0.9.17-1) manages to run the program
just fine, but more recent wine's require:
setsebool -P allow_execmod=1
to work properly.
Also, i did a little research, and i found this:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2005-June/018398.html
But the thing is, i didn't get any error messages in the console, no err, the
loading of the program just stopped, but i could still see the executable and
wineserver in the process table still using cpu.
Soooo, is this a wine bug, a program flaw, or a SeLinux screw-up ?

As per the title, this slows the game down from 50-60fps to 10-15fps (where as
my machine runs it with all options fine in Windows). This may be a bug or
purely an optimisational issue but it shouldn't create such a massive
performance hit. This sounds incredibly vague so I'll provide any detail you

The ground in the game stays a particular colour rather than being the texture
it should be (I have a feeling this is a shader related issue). i.e. the island
in the intro the ground is just white (with light effects still added) and
starting another skirmish map where the ground should also be desert it starts
out white then changes to an off shade of pale green. All units and buildings
etc are textured fine. The build menu items are slightly off though, they should
be greyed out when not buildable but instead they turn black and white (as if
someone has tried to fax them).

Well I just tested it in wine with 8bit Color - Depth. The game starts and is
fully playable except, that there are some wild color distortions. My guess is
that the X11 - Palette doesn't match the Windows Palette. But as Louis hack
suggests, the game also works in higher color depths.
Note that I did test in Managed Mode and not with a virtual Desktop, as Louis
did.

It wouldn't be so much of a problem but the main window seems to be stuck to

you have to right click on the gnome task bar (or whatever WM you're using)
select move and then try and stick it (the new window) in a corner, praying you
can see enough of it for you to be able to fill in or read whatever is there.

Summary: Thief D3D renders VERY slowly, with blocks of colour
drawn
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.18.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: a.hurst(a)shef.ac.uk
As of version 0.9.16:
In Thief: The Dark Project (Gold) Direct3D renders very slowly - roughly one
frame a minute - and is sporadically overdrawn with solid blocks of Red, Yellow,
Cyan, Magenta
Runs very well under 0.9.15.
Gfx card is Nvidia TNT2 with 16MB vram.
As of 0.9.16 noticed new TRACE output from dlls/wined3d/device.c
"..IWineD3DDeviceImpl_GetAvailableTextureMem: stub, emulating 64MB for now"
This code hasn't changed since 0.9.15, it's just started being called!
Might not be helpful, but recompiling with "static unsigned int
emulated_textureram = 16*1024*1024" - to match my GFX card's actual VideoRam
doesn't fix.
To reproduce - simply start/load game - menu system runs as normal, loads game,
then game engine runs as described.
On x86, Gentoo Linux, Xorg-7.0

Hello Mike,
thank you for testing. You are right, probably I did something different: I
forgot to specify that I did not install *all* software from python-2.4.3.msi; I
selected "Register Extensions" and "Utility Scripts" only. If you select
everything (the default), pythonw.exe is installed. However, I did an
installation under MS Windows right now, and choosing just "Register Extensions"
and "Utility Scripts" has no effect on installation of pythonw.exe there. Also,
the file selector is available under MS Windows, and typing an installation path
manually has the desired effect. Sorry for giving you incomplete information!

Yes, I tried this demo in my windows XP box, and all worked fine. So it is not
related to my hardware. So, it was the reason that I was surprised that you saw
the intro movies.

That's nothing compared to how BF2 currently looks :-)
Hopefully fixing the SkinnedMesh sample from the dx sdk will fix this, and a

FYI, i could see the intro's too, allthough they were rather slow. Game itself
started as well, although there was a problem with centered mouse. Did you check
that you can run this app on windows (maybe lacking capabilities video card)?
