I can imagine that Alt+mouse is some key combination for the window manager. My kde uses that to move the window. The new ddraw code puts the main window under the wm's control, maybe the old code didn't. Jesse, I don't expect the patch from 5526 to help here. D2 never had the issue from bug 5526(At least not in d3d mode). After this point, the msi file you want to run should be in .wine/drive_c/Program Files/Sony Setup/Sound Forge 8.0/forge80_enu.msi. Running msiexec on this msi, you get to a screen that says you have missing required components, but no indication of what they are. We get this error: err:msi:msi_dialog_create_controls no handler for element type L"ListBox" So the installer wants to give us a list of components we need to install, and we even have the option of installing them directly in the installer. We'll need to implement the msi ListBox control to get this functionality. The main idea behind using opengl for ddraw is to handle Blits to the render target in hardware, and to have color conversions handled in hardware. This can really improve performance, in those games that work I get 500 fps instead of 40 fps :-) (Well, swat3 and worms 2 with hacks). There is a hacky patch for the old ddraw code which makes it use opengl, and it helped the performance of the games mentioned here until the mouse was moved, then they crashed because of multithreading issues. Multithreading was the reason for me to port ddraw over to wined3d. The asynchronous surface updates move the front buffer->screen blits out of the main rendering path so they do not block the app. (Except if requested by the app via DD*_WAIT flags). This fixes the performance issues due to the mouse in C&C Tiberian sun and Age of Empires 2. Moving the mouse doesn't block the entire game now. It doesn't fix the slowness due to GetDC(requires a GDI engine or gdi opengl driver) nor the real cause of the color conversion slowness(requires opengl rendering). But it moves the slow blitting out of the performance critical rendering path. The prior version I was using was 0.9.14, in which SC ran ok. Other users reported similar problems with other games. They could work around by matching the game bit depth on their display. This trick does not work with Starcraft. It is an 8bpp game. It never ran on an 8bpp display and it is still true today with 0.9.16. Trying to run SC on a 8bpp display results in the game crashing. More specifically, the display will remain black. Download at specified URL (enter any random information in the provided fields). I connect to a device on COM1 / 115200n81 / vt102. If the device on COM1 is generating output, for example if I have set it in a "while [ true ]; do ls -l; done" loop using eg. minicom, then SecureCRT works fine and is responsive. It does consume 100% CPU though, 50% goes to SecureCRT.EXE and 50% to wineserver (on a hyperthreading CPU). If the device does NOT generate any output, then SecureCRT deadlocks. It doesn't even repaint it's window, and it's unresponsive to mouse and keyboard events. In this case, wineserver and SecureCRT.EXE also consumes 50% CPU each. The game is still play-able, but this bug is a little annoying. Since bnet menus aren't drawn properly, it is not possible to know the progress. If you wait a few minutes after starting the update (one Ok button needs to be pushed) a message will eventually confirm the update is downloaded. Note update through bnet is only possible if udp support is present in your game. The only way to get udp support is to install a patch manually. In my case I first manually updated from 1.0 to 1.10, then I updated from 1.10 to 1.13f thru bnet. But if wine relies on external code to provide Windows application (IE) with required API/functionality, shouldn't it be shipped with wine (or if there are license issues, at least a notification to the user would seem appropriate - so they don't fill in more bug reports :)) Another issue (however may not be relevant here) is that the primary reason a linux user needs an IE is to see how IE renders pages (web development). To have IE using mozilla rendering is kinda pointless ... But: The Gothic II Installer play "/media/cdrom0/AutoRun/Installer_loop.wav". When i try to umount the cdrom i get the error message: /media/cdrom0: device is busy with the command "lsof |grep media" I found that out: wineserve 15022 flo 38r REG 22,0 15507574 1692 /media/cdrom0/AutoRun/Installer_loop.wav I am not 100% sure about it, but I think i use now OSS sound driver. It usually boils down to MSI lacking support for the InstallService action, so COM tries to load IDriverT as a service, but sees it has no service entry so then falls back to trying to load it as an local server.
