Using native usp10 didn't fix the problem. When I change windows version to 98
or ME it works properly. The problem appears when using ver. 2000, XP, and
2003.

What graphics card have you got?
The "invalid texture coordinate reference" usually means the shader is trying to
use an invalid texture unit. I guess in D3D that's valid, while in OpenGL it
isn't. We should probably check the maximum number of supported textures when
generating the shader. Obviously this would require some tests first.

You are absolutely right! We can close this case now and see if Bug 2398 will be
resolved. This is pretty hard nut to crack...

Hi,
Since some days (upgrade ?), i can't open network
document with winword 2000. I get a lot of this line :
fixme:mpr:WNetGetUniversalNameW (L"H:\\StageReseau.doc", 0x00000001, 0x7fa3b1f4,
0x7fa3b618): stub
and winword 2000 hangs
I use debian testing. This occurs with nfs & smbfs drives.
No problems with local drives.
Same problem with wine 0.9.13

I just realized I pasted a backtrace of the current thread twice, instead of a

Clean installation of Wine better-than-0.9.13 from CVS and Trillian 3.1 on
Debian etch updated today. I set the Windows Version setting for Trillian from
inside winecfg as was suggested in the comment at the bottom of Trillian 3.1's
appdb page. I applied the patch blt.pat attached to bug 5161 so as to stop
Trillian from crashing on the splash screen.
Installation is fine (minor issues), Trillian can start (minor issues).
I see many instances of messages like: fixme:bitblt:GdiAlphaBlend (height or
widths must not be 0. dst=40x0, src=40x0
Once Trillian gets to the main window, and I fiddle around with the preferences
a bit, Trillian freezes and I cannot open the preferences window. After a few
minutes, the last few lines of console output are:
fixme:bitblt:GdiAlphaBlend (height or widths must not be 0. dst=0x16, src=0x16

I get another identical RtlpWaitForCriticalSection message every minute or so.
.g. if I leave it for 13 minutes I get 13 of them.
I also hope to switch skins to a simpler skin such as
http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/downloads/detail.php?item=308 so as to reduce
display problems but I cannot seem to do it from the Preferences window.

You can explain that to m$ and the way they created the layout of their OS.
Also you can tell that to all the vendors who relay on _that_ particular layout.
Wine uses special tricks to follow as close as possible to what m$ does. One of
those tricks is allocating all of the required address space then manage it
ourselfs. That's why Wine needs most of the bottom 2GB and first few MB of the
3rd GB (0-0x81000000 addresses).

Hotkeys are just keys that are assigned one function, and the function will work
from any program. Here's a clearer example:
Let's say you make F5 into a hotkey. You assign it the function to make your
screen bounce (>_>). If you use firefox, pressing F5 will not refresh the page
as it normally would, but will make the screen bounce since F5 has became a hotkey.

Sure, but i still think it's a bug, although maybe not very important. On my
system for example, i set ulimit pretty early in the boot of the system, so all
my shells are limited (and you can't remove the limit if you're not root), so
the problem is pretty annoying.
Also, the problem could block users on a multiuser system where the system
administrator sets a ulimit for everyone.

I have the same problem - Reason is extremely sluggish under WINE.
Loading samples and songs seems to also be very slow, compared to running on
native Windows.
Installer still seems to have issues with the splashscreen being above the
progress window.
Haven't tried on a more recent version of WINE yet.

Further corrections to solve this problem and make 10 todo testcases succeed.
Thanks, Dmitry!
The usage of flag 0x8000 explains much.
I noticed that it is used not only for windows with WS_CHILD style,
but actually, it seems, for all windows (as certified by msg.c
tests and observations in Windows with, e.g. Spy++).
I prepared and sent to wine-patches the attached patch which
makes 10 (actually, 12 due to uncommenting earlier failing parts)
msg.c tests (with different kinds of windows) succeed.
Among them there is the testcase related with this bug and bug 4964.
Let us hope that the patch is accepted, so these 2 problems can be closed.

Hi John,
I have never used Google Earth, and I am fairly new to diagnosing Wine issues,
but I did a bit of basic research on your InstallShield error by doing a Web
search for InstallShield 6005.
- Could you tell us which Google Earth version are you using? Is it the absolute
latest one available?
- Did you try renaming your $HOME/.wine directory to $HOME/.wineold or some such
and trying again?
- When you run the installer with a WINEDEBUG option as in this example:
WINEDEBUG=+all wine ./GoogleEarth.exe 2>&1 | tee all.winelog
then does the log output that is produced right before the error shows up
onscreen provide any hints? If so, can you send us the relevant portion as an
attachment to this bug?
- The page
http://forums.ngemu.com/software-discussion/48449-installshield-error.html
suggests you install DCOM98 from Microsoft, and if that doesn't work, to install
the latest Internet Explorer. Seems like too much work to install IE, but you
could always try downloading and installing MSFT's DCOM98 and see if that helps.
All, would it be a good idea for me to suggest to John that he do regression
testing if he still wants to try to fix the problem after all this, or would
that be an unfair suggestion considering he is not a veteran bug tracker yet :)
or for some other reason?

Hi, Vitaliy, I'm interested in this bug because I want to run the Life Balance
personal organisation software from Llamagraphics, and they've only compiled it
to run on .NET framework. I've emailed them about compiling on Mono, but,
though they're exploring that possibility, they're not ready to that quite yet.
Searching for ".NET Framework" in the search box on www.winehq.org and in
comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine doesn't find your very useful statement that
this feature will definitely not be added any time soon.
As a side note, Ubuntu displays its development goals very nicely in Launchpad:

Many people including myself have inquired many times about a noticeable
performance difference with 2D games between Wine and Windows (Starcraft, Dark
Reign and presumably many others). A recent post confirmed 2D drawing in Wine
isn't optimal (sorry for the long link).
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine/tree/browse_f…
I am adding this quick note so that user questions are more directly answered by
this report. It'll also explain better why this issue is listed in a game appdb
entry.

I can confirm there is indeed a problem with the installer, however it proceeds
a bit further here. After accepting the license agreement it starts installing
and then crashes/hangs. For now if you would like to install GoogleEarth you
should go back to an older wine-version like wine-0.9.10. Installation then just
works fine.

loud spikes.

I am trying to solve the same problem.
There is a workaround for the crash at the start of serial communication:
set the emulated windows version to Win 95.
With wine 0.9.11 and mapsource 6.9.1 I was able to get the ID and download data
from gps.
Sending maps to gps however freezes and mapsource reports an error after some time.
With wine 0.9.13 it fails to detect the device and strace shows SIGSEGV several
lines after the /dev/ttyS0 is opened.

Mike, I tried the patch with 0.9.12 and 0.9.13 but it didn't work with either
version. I got lines like these for every file it tried to extract:
err:cabinet:FDICopy PFDI_OPEN returned zero for
C:\windows\temp\RarSFX0\accessor.cab.
err:msi:extract_cabinet_file FDICopy failed
err:msi:ACTION_InstallFiles compressed file wasn't extracted (L"c:\\Program
Files\\America's Army\\System\\pbsetup\\pbsetup.exe")
The only thing that changed was the filename in the ACTION_InstallFiles line, so
I guess it kept looking in accessor.cab for every file. There was also a crash
at the end with both versions.

The page below states that a blocker blocks testing work. I work full time testing software and I am willing
to continuously test Wine's compatibility with one particular program but this bug is blocking me from
doing my work. That is why I marked it as a blocker. Would a developer please reopen a bug. I am not
going to do it myself because I am not a developer and do not want to upset developers. However, I would
like this bug to remain open until it is fixed in a point release of Wine. Thank you for your work.

why they are generated. Some of the messages are caused by bugs in the direct
sound implementation but some are caused by wine audio drivers, some by the OS
sound drivers and/or sound emulation layers and some are caused by the OS
process scheduling algorithms. Lumping any report that has DSOUND in it
together into a single meta-bug is good from an administrative perspective but
they are not necessarily all duplicates. This makes it difficult to find the
root cause of each report which will probably be different in each case. Even
every me-too reply can have a different root cause if the application, OS or
hardware differs in any way.

I will regression test this bug as long as it is not marked as a duplicate of another bug. It may however
be a duplicate of Bug 5251.
PAF 5.2 can be downloaded for free at the URL submitted with this bug.
I tested this program on a fresh install of Ubuntu 6.06 Flight 7 with updates using a fresh installation of
Wine 0.9.13 with no custom configuration.
1. Run 'wine PAF5EnglishSetup.exe'
2. Click 'OK' to install in English

4. An error window appears
5. Click 'OK' on error window
6. Install shield crashes
InstallShield should not crash.
Repeating these steps I have gotten the following messages in the error window that appears.

When I run Cave Story (http://agtp.romhack.net/doukutsu.html) it plays very
well, but there are two problems. One is that it doesn't render the graphical
transition between scenes, but I don't really care about that. The other is the
sound.
The sound plays, but it isn't right-- notes are held too long into rests, and
notes that are close together interfere constructively making really loud spikes
every once in a while.
Wine constantly prints messages to console that look like this:
err:dsound:DSOUND_MixInBuffer length not a multiple of block size, len = 7301,
block size = 2
I have tried running this with alsa, oss, and even jack driving alsa-- either
way I see exactly the same results.
This is quite a common problem-- I can find forum posts about many different
games by googling this error message.
note: this game generates sound using Pixel's own midi-ish format, .org, which
is built into the game. However, it's not the only game that generates these
errors.

ReportedBy: minilek(a)gmail.com
The bug is triggered when I load the battle.net login screen for Starcraft Brood
Wars while using wine. It causes wine to abort, and so Starcraft closes too.
The full trace can be found at http://web.mit.edu/minilek/www/wine_bug.
The last few fixmes before the error:
fixme:ras:RasEnumConnectionsA (0x5a2000a4,0x55bcf948,0x55bcf94c),stub!
fixme:ras:RasEnumConnectionsA RAS support is not implemented! Configure program

wine: Unhandled exception (thread 0009), starting debugger...
This battle.net login screen is the only screen that causes wine to crash -- I
can load other menus as well as play the game single player just fine without
crashing.
I'm running Ubuntu Breezy, linux 2.6.12-10-amd64-generic.

I'm trying to use "Marco Polo Großer Reiseplaner 2005/2006" with Wine 0.9.13 on

stops, before the "real thing" starts. Please see

In the terminal window from which I started wine, I get:

As you saw on the screenshot, I setup wine to use a Desktop size of 640×480. I
also set the Windows version to Windows 98. But the error also happens, when I
remove my ~/.wine directory and just use the default settings.
Meanwhile, I downgraded to 0.9.12., and there the installer works just fine.

I am posting this issue here per mike_m. I suspect the row in the Media table
that mentions accessor.cab is being selected when it shouldn't be, and that if
it were not selected this bug wouldn't have appeared at all.
Wine-msi is executing the SQL statement "SELECT * FROM `Media` WHERE
`LastSequence` >= 1 ORDER BY `LastSequence`". That select statement should not
be selecting the row that mentions DiskId="22" LastSequence="0" DiskPrompt=""
Cabinet="accessor.cab" VolumeLabel="" Source="".
The only line in a +all log of an America's Army install that mentions the Media
table is:
trace:msi:MSI_DatabaseOpenViewW L"SELECT * FROM `Media` WHERE `LastSequence` >=
1 ORDER BY `LastSequence`" 0x7fc2f794
But, because the install fails later, I suspect the row is being
selected despite that LastSequence is 0. How else could Wine-msi think that a
file named accessor.cab exists?
(Background info: There is a full MSIDIFF dissasembly of America's Army.msi
attached to bug 4533; I saw the row (DiskId="22" LastSequence="0" DiskPrompt=""
Cabinet="accessor.cab" VolumeLabel="" Source="") in comment#5. I confirmed that
that was the only row in the entire MSI file mentioning a file "accessor.cab"
using the WiX decompiler. I am using a copy of wine from CVS that I checked out
about a week ago built on Debian Etch. wine --version returns 0.9.12.)

Tom, the only cab files on my Dell OEM WinXP CD are: \i386\mmssetup.cab
modem.cab osc.cab sp1.cab win.cab winsys.cab winsys32.cab
\i386\win9xmig\mapi\...\80.cab 801.cab 802.cab 803.cab 98map.cab 98omi.cab
40.cab 40a.cab 40sp3.cab 40sp4.cab 50sp1.cab 50sp2.cab \support\tools\deploy.cab
support.cab sup_pro.cab sup_srv.cab
There are a bunch of ca_ files too but none of them are named accessor.ca_.
Also, a Google search for accessor.cab finds only Wine-related issues.
I think that ignoring the return value isn't dangerous, though perhaps we should
print a trace or msi:err message when the return value of extract_cabinet_file
is or isn't "success".

You dont search for the regression in one file. You do the cvs checkout by date
for the entire tree, and then when you find the day, you do it by time. Once
you get it narrowed down, the file and commit become clear because that will be
the only commit between when it was working and when it stopped.

What winver is being used? IIRC accessor.cab is a windows cab file, so if the
msi is asking for it, it is probably trying to install some sort of windows
accessory, which is why it dies when it cant use the accesory that is supposed
to be there. Mike is right that we could just return success, BUT it isnt proper.

the installer on their website.
If anyone is willing to work on this problem, I can provide a tarball with
version 6.9.1 plus registry entries and other files needed to start the program up.
Depending on a number of factors (mainly if I have enough extra cash), I might
even be willing to purchase an eTrex Legend (the same unit that I use) for the
person who solves this bug.
I can be contacted on gmail.com; my address is akihana (at the mentioned domain).
Oh, and if someone ends up reading this -- please change the Component to
wine-ports since this is really a serial comm bug as opposed to a filesystem
issue. Please also update the version; I can comfirm that this problem still
exists in Wine 0.9.13.

Question: Why is wine crashing on accessor.cab?
Answer: Because there is no such file as accessor.cab anywhere in the America's
Army distribution, so it never should have been extracted.
Here is my long-winded explanation.
I extracted americasarmy260_aafiles.exe to a directory on Windows. Then, I ran:
msiexec.exe /i "America's Army.msi" /qn /l*v verbose.log (/i means install; /qn
does a silent install; /l* means log all operations, v means verbose)
Notice this direct excerpt from the msiexec log:
...

I can upload the full log if anyone likes. Notice that MSI did a ChangeMedia to
accessor.cab then did *nothing whatsoever* then did another ChangeMedia to
Sounds.cab and started extracting it. There is no accessor.cab file. It should
correspond to Program Files\America's Army\Accessories but the only files in
there are ArcadeInstallFull203-google.exe, xfire_installer_17171.exe, and some
DirectX stuff, all of which are stored in *other* CAB files.

Summary: Black Screen on Great Battles - Hanibal
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.13.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: gobnat(a)optusnet.com.au
I recently acquired a copy of the (somewhat old) game Great Battles - Hannibal.
I loaded the game into SuSE 9.1 using the default wine shipped with SuSE 9.1
(2004- <something something>). The game ran and displayed graphics faithfully
(well, at least as far as I could tell - see below)
The game requires the CD to be in the drive, and I had trouble configuring that
wine version to properly mount and identify the CD, so all I could get was the
intro screen and the network client. These displayed properly.
So I decided to upgrade to the most recent version of wine. That fixed my CD Rom
configuration issues, but now all the screens are (not quite but almost)
entirely black. I have tried this with SuSE 9.1 (where a very dim outline is
faintly visible against the black - (enough to find the quit button)) and FC5
(where the screen is entirely black - can't even find the quit button!) and have
received the same results.
So, the problem has been introduced somewhere between 2004 and now. I can't
find where old wine versions are, otherwise I would try them. GB-H
installs/uses DirectX 5.
I saw there was a patch for a similar problem listed for Diablo. I tried to
apply it but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.
