The screenshots gallery on our front page of the website is dated and hasn't
changed in a while. Imagine your a potential new wine user and don't click on
apps database, you click the screenshots link to see what wine is capable of.
Those are all old apps and that page hasn't been updated in a while, and its
kind of a turnoff. There are more recent office applications and games that will
run in wine.

Thank you for testing my patch. Indeed e-Mule needs another function:
wine: Call from 0x55a01ea0 to unimplemented function dnsapi.dll.DnsQuery_A
So here's another patch for you to try. Apply it instead of the previous
one against current CVS (you can revert the old patch with patch -R).
Oh, and don't use any native dlls, you shouldn't need them.

it is to update 1 bug for multiple issues.

ebase 1.03 installs and starts uneventfully. (It even reads remote databases
hosted on FileMaker Server on Apple Mac OS 8.)
However, many ebase buttons "do nothing." For example, the "Find" button just

Below is a sample of the console messages. However, none of the messages are

Summary: Warcraft III world editor major issues
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.12.

Component: wine-directx
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: vexorian(a)gmail.com
I was able to run war3.exe with WINE it works flawlessly and it is even faster
than when I use it in windows XP. I tried using worldedit.exe as well and it
does load, the problem is that it has got a lot of issues.
First of all after loading data, the map contents get above the place they
should be and overlap the menu bar.
The trigger editor has some issues that make it difficult to select parts of
triggers by clicking and you are forced to use the keyboard, it also blinks
after changing of selection.
And it will also eventually crash.
The problem of the main editor seems to be caused by the combination of win32 UI
with a directx surface in the same window and in that case it would cause
problems for other game editors as well.
The bug with the trigger editor is kind of minor but is related to the complex
UI that the Trigger Editor has
There is little left of warcraft III gaming right now and the modding community
is much more important, also I think that the common linux user would be
interested in map editing so It would be nice if this could be fixed.

Hi, i use the wine version 0.9.6 with Lotus Notes 6.5.4. I have a problem if i
print from Notes with truetype fonts. The german umlaut ae, oe and ue printed
with a gap between the sign's (like "sch ön"). The problem appears with all
TTF's from Windows's (like arial). The standard fonts from Suse 10.0 printed
perfectly. I test it through wine-0.9.9, the proble is the same.
Best regard's

On eMule's "Servers" form, the Server Info and Log tabs (also the Verbose tab,
if enabled in Options --> Extended) will only display one line of text at the
top of the richedit pane, and each subsequent line displayed overwrites the
previous one. No vertical scrollbar ever appears.

After installing DCOM like mentioned on http://wiki.winehq.org/NativeDcom and
running the app with WINEDLLOVERRIDES=ole32,oleaut32,dnsapi,rpcrt4=n, it still
doesn't work. Wine gives no error, but the application gives "error 201".
The full debug log (WINDEBUG=+all) is too big to attach here, even compressed;
but if you give me a reasonable value for WINEDEBUG, I'll use it and send the log.

> Answer to FBO here, because my mail to buggzilla hasn't been take in
care :'(
The problem is not the perf issue, think of simple case where it will be
used :
Nnw editor : the preview of the map, the preview of unit, etc...
Same for other game editor.
For 3d program it the same a display window too.
The only problematic case is the real time display, like a video player in
opengl or a complex alway in movement scene.
Before implementing this and choose if you need revert back to old model, make
a modular model (the two engine) or keep the new model with a dirty hack...
It would be great (as this feature is missing for so long time right now), to
think in the majority of use and limit the break/perf issue for other case...
I don't know lot in wine programming, but wine has still lot of small but
realy anoying crash, before re-breaking the whole things, this time as lionel
said, please take in care the final use of that...
ps : they are still few bugs that may be interesting to solve before that
like :
- screen depth capacitied (800x600,1024...) that don't works in many case or
video feature. (many 3d editor/game/apps use that to set the default config)
- the propriety/configuration dialog box that makes the whole editor crash
(I speak of warcraft3 and few other I tested)
- etc...
Maybe this message is useless, but I think it's better to think NOW about the
case we will find that feature (as we have lot of example yet), to select the
better/cleaner/less dirty hack...
That will avoid deception like lionel had and counter-productive wasted time.
I don't blame anyone here, as you do a great job, but it's anoying to get now
bugs with new (close to final) version of wine that didn't exists in
2004mmdd...

Petty bickering aside, the bugzilla is not for 'putting people in their place'
or for correcting those people when they put the wrong persons name ;-) . If
you want to do either of those things, PLEASE email it to the person privately.
Not for the ideas.. Yes it is taking quite a long time to get a fix in, but
that is because we are trying to 1) prevent from putting in a hack, amd 2)
trying to make sure that whatever fix we do put in doesnt severely impact
performance. If we put in a fix that gives you < 12fps, would you be satisfied?
No, you would then open a new bug saying opengl is slow for <insert app here>,
so I think it's better to leave the code as is.

As a whime of mine, try running with native mfc42.dll and see if that gets you

ShellExecute(handle, "explore", "path_to_folder", NULL, NULL, SW_SHOWNORMAL);

Thank you James for putting me in my place so firmly and abruptly. Until the
21st of April, I had not posted on this issue since early January '06. In
summary, excluding the diagnosis posts from me, I seem to have posted 7 times
here since 29 September 2005. I now see that such an overwhelming density of
posts from me has prevented a fix. Oh, foolish me - an average of less than one
post a month has derailed bug 2398.

Summary: Wine x11driver does not work correctly with glx 1.2
servers
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.12.
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: srainwater(a)ncc.com
Certain functions such as glXChooseFBConfig that are supported by glx 1.3 and
higher servers are called even when a glx 1.2 server is used, resulting in
crashes. This problem seems to affect all wine users who rely on Mesa OpenGL
support (as used in xorg/xfree86 when hardware acceleration is not available).
This is because Mesa doesn't support glXChooseFBConfig and other 1.3 APIs yet.
This is a regression. Wine versions 20050419 and earlier used alternate 1.2 APIs
such as glXChooseVisual which worked with both glx 1.2 and 1.3 servers. The
offending code is found in /dlls/x11drv/opengl.c - there may be other areas of
the code involved as well but the use of the 1.3 API to select the X drawable
seems to be the main culprit.
A good approach would be to follow the guidelines suggested in the OpenGL
documentation and query the server to determine if it supports the 1.2 or 1.3
API and then use the appropriate set of functions to obtain an X drawable. An
example of this method is described here:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/pseries/v5r3/index.jsp?topic=/com.…
By falling back to 1.2 functions when a 1.3 glx server is not available, many
apps in the app database which used to work with wine version 20050419 and
earlier should be usable again. In particular, many of those failing with this
error:
X11DRV_ChoosePixelFormat glXChooseFBConfig returns NULL (glError: 0)
This problem may be responsible for several glXChooseFBConfig bug reports such
as bug 3277 and others.
Until the built-in Mesa support in xorg offers the 1.3 API, it seems counter
productive to make a 1.3 glx server a requirement of running wine.

Phil, this issue has been discussed before. We don't provide a quick hack to
satisfy end users for exactly that reason: everyone is satisfied. No one will
care to expend any amount of effort fixing a problem if an easy hack gets them
the same thing. As of now, people are talking about ideas and trying to figure
out how to get this working without a workaround, whereas before, no one cared
to fix the problem. This is the exact reason why we don't add hacks and
workarounds to the tree. If everyone is so dissatisfied, which they are, then
someone, somewhere, will provide a solution. We would appreciate it if you
would stop posting to this bug about bringing back a hack or complaining about
the situation. The posts are for ideas on how to fix the problem. Thanks.

I'm tring to run Etherlords 2 Demo with wine. First of all I have got error
similar to http://bugs.winehq.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4008. Etherlords throws some
exception from msvcrt.dll and with cedega this error does not occures (And I'm
sure It doesn't with earlier wine versions). So I just used workaround of this
problem - using native msvcrt.dll and running etherlords with
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msvcrt=n" wine etherlords2.exe
And and then second error occured. I have got next error dialog
Title: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

For me it looks like there is incapability between mfc42.dll and Wine, but I'm
not Wine hacker so I can be wrong

Is there any reason why the new code (that worked for me and others) and the old
approach cannot co-exist, with the mode being defined per-application as part of
the command line (or as a registry switch)? Even if this were simply a short
term, ugly hack, it would be better than the current 'non-existant' fix(es)
being discussed. (#31 - did not get an explanation as to why this might not be
workable)
This, at least, would get us something usable whilst the 'proper' solution is
thrashed out. It's rather frustrating to see such a large issue remain unsolved
for such a long period of time. It's more frustrating to realise that, if the
wine development team need to do this kind of thing again in the future, all
users will be in exactly the same position again. That concerns me no end and
must dent the enthusiasm of any developer hoping to use Wine to provide a linux
version of their software to customers. Throwing away the working implementation
wholesale, without any apparent fallback, is deeply regrettable. Having the old
mode back as a 'shim' would greatly reduce the pain that this issue is causing,
especially given the proximity of a 1.0 release.
For the moment, I *have* to run the old version of Wine because it is the *only
one* that works for me. I cannot, though, file bug reports because they will be
discounted until I can reproduce them in the current version. I cannot run any
of the newer versions because, for my purposes and applications, they are
broken.....and so on. (#34)

You know what... the MDI interface is out the proverbial window anyway.
http://www.asktog.com/readerMail/2000-07ReaderMail.html#Anchor2http://pl.atyp.us/wordpress/?p=171 I wouldn't mind at all if we put in a
per-program option to split the OpenGL viewports onto separate movable windows.
This would make old, clunky MDI apps more desktop-friendly, IMO. Especially if
the window locations were stored in a database so that your program would open
up and the windows would arrange themselves like they were...
Why re-invent the wheel when you can give them flight? The idea of splitting
old MDI applications into separate windows would be a boon for xinerama users.
Kind of reminds me of what GGI has done: http://www.ggi-project.org/screenshots.html

Also what sound driver are you using? Try OSS. (but it's a separate bug from
this one).

I want to add one more comment here. The code for pbuffers is going to be slow.
Its nothing more than an evil hack. The best solution is to get an X Subwindow
as a viewport. Then you can use the natural speed of OpenGL to render the code.

The information in the article on http://wiki.winehq.org/OpenGL page is
interesting. So let me get this straight. You guys actually expect the x.org
people to reimplement part of x to fix a bad design decision made by you. I
don't support that. I remember sending an email to the wine developers mailing
list about this issue way back when you guys decided to make the change to this
new design. You ignored what I had to say. I then dismissed the Windows apps on
the linux platform something that will never be accomplished. I'm saddened that
you guys proved me right.
You guys had a basically working design that would have eventually gotten you
allot further back when you had the original engine. Its too bad you didn't
persue that avenue. You would have had a working system by now. Regardless of
the problems you had before. I saw it. It was working. And you threw away a
working design. If you guys had placed resources into getting installers to work
we would have something useable today. Right now the state of wine is currently
not even close to being working. Thats really too bad.
The biggest chance for Linux to capture the desktop market is sitting at your
feet and the technology is not going to be ready to take advantage of that.

I just did a regression test, removing the movieplayer.exe file, and found that
the text is not on the menus with 0.9.10.
For the record, I'm using the ubuntu .deb wine packages here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=6241&package_id=174803 and
.9.11 isn't listed there. If needed, I can compile that version from source (as
well as the other versions I'm referencing) but as the problem appears to be
with the .9.10 patch, I don't think that it is necessary.

Unfortunately there's not enough information in the log. Please create a log
with "trace+bitmap,trace+x11drv,trace+relay". It will be big, but the most
important information is probably in the 1000 lines before the message "Trying
to make bitmap with planes=1, bpp=4" is printed for the first time, so you can
remove the other lines from the log file.

IRC you can get it running in 0.9.10 an .11 by removing(deleting) the intro

It doesn't complain about dx 9.0c not being installed. I disabled the checkbox
"Allow pixelshader" in winecfg, and then (before your patch) the app wouldn't
crash, but all menu's and graphics is made out of "blocks" (i could attach a
screenshot if you want). With pixelshader enabled the app (before your patch)
wouldn't crash as well, but the screen remained black.

It's interesting that you see this with the recent patches in Mike's tree - this
shouldn't cause that bug. The crash was introduces earlier when I added a 1st
pass to count the registers (and forgot to check for NULL).
As for the unsupported opcode, I don't think it's ever been supported. How did
you get this demo to run anyway - doesn't it complain about DirectX 9.0c not
being installed?

ReportedBy: pyromithrandir(a)gmail.com
I upgraded to wine 0.9.12 from 0.9.9 (I didn't use .9.10 or .9.11 because AoM
wouldn't even start correctly with them, so I don't know if the text would have
worked with those versions or not) and all of the text on my AoM menus
disappeared! I saw that this was a problem that happens without wine (
www.support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;810381&spid=561&sid=1523 ) so I tried
updating the fonts and msxml, but have had no luck.
The game plays just fine, though, once I start playing. I just have to remember
which buttons to press to get that far. In game text appears without any problems.
If I revert to version .9.9 the menu text returns, but the upgrade to .9.12
makes it disappear again.

You're right, the register counting pass function does not properly handle NULL
opcode which is a bug. The opcode is NULL, because it has not been documented as
supported on Pixel Shaders v. 1.1.

Hi, it crashes now again, see attached log. Ivan, this is caused by a patch by

could you have a look at it? I think curOpcode is NULL on my computer, which
seems to cause the crash. What should happen in the function if this happens?

by downloading eMule, clicking connect, and then searching for a file:

For the sound issue, normally we would ask you to create a new bug for it, but
since it is usually an easy fix, I will address it here. What window manager
are you running on each box?

sound driver is unchecked under wineconfig. If the sound driver is checked the
game crashes. This is true of both of my linux boxes, one running gentoo and
one running ubuntu and both are running wine version 0.9.12.

Are you compiling with -O0 by any chance?
You can get rid of the configure warning by installing a newish version of
FontForge.

I've been following wine via CVS for years. Recently, the builds started
failing. First,
and this is probably not be relevant, I get a warning about freetype2 not being
found;
specifically:
*** Warning: Freetype or Fontforge is missing.
*** Fonts will not be built. Dialog text may be invisible or unaligned.
This is not correct, I've got freetype-2.1.10 installed from a build-tree where
prefix=/usr
In any event, after make depend, make dies as:

/home/ronis/Project/notar/wine/dlls/shlwapi/string.c:531: undefined reference to
`strncmpW'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
winegcc: /usr/bin/gcc failed.
I've checked and it appears that this is defined in wine/include/unicode.h as
static inline and string.c does include unicode.h. If strncmpW is defined as
static inline, can it really be used as an argument to the function (if that is
what is at line 531 in string .c)? The line in qustion reads:
return SHLWAPI_StrStrHelperW(lpszStr, lpszSearch, strncmpW);
One thing that has changed here is that I've started using gcc-4.1.0.
Other than that, I'm running slackware-current.

that reallocs a larger idxRecords array and continues. (Assuming, of course
that the AVI file format deals with more than 1024 index entries - I don't know
any more about the AVI format than what I've worked out from the wine API ;)

I installed fontforge 20060413; but it didn't fix the problem. I can't find a
small test app but I removed some files from this application and created an
archive (8MB). You can find it here:
http://suleyman.nyg.ege.edu.tr/fatih/TCDD.tar.bz2
In order to run the application:
1. add a d: drive and extract the archive in it.
2. copy D:\TCDD\YURTICI\ads.ini to C:\WINDOWS\
3. cd to D:\TCDD\YURTICI\Admin and run TcddAdmin.exe
4. You will see two textboxes: Username and password in Turkish. Username is
ADMN and password tcdd (Perhaps you may have to press shift while typing
password)
5. Press the first button above (labeled "Kullanici Tanimlari"). Then you will
see the list.
Thanks,

Sorry for not telling it right away, but prior to displaying the normal
splash/login screen, it displays an alert dialog box with that unsympathetic
red icon with an 'X', and it shows lots of question marks instead of text.
Being an alert box, all I can do is to click on its single button, and then
the expected splash/login screen shows up.

Gunbound is an online game much like the Worms series, but with up-to-date
graphics, a world ranking, stuff which you can buy to give you combat bonuses
et al.
At the game start it should:
1) Show up splash screen
2) Splash screen loads a html with game news
3) Looks for updates on the web and installs them
4) Show up login prompt
Unfortunately, it does not pass the login screen. It shows up the splash, but
the area where the html should show stays blank, and the updates are never
downloaded.
The first time I ran it wine asked me if I wanted to download the mozilla
activex control, and it downloaded it, so I *think* it is installed...
Running from the command line it spits the following:

Yes that would be a big help, but at the same time, I want to make sure that it
isn't a combination of things that stopped it from working since then..
It could be that you were missing the files before, but they weren't required
for whatever reason, but that now they are because of the changes to wine's
directx implementation, so to make sure that is not the case, I'd like you to go
ahead and try the latest opengl to make sure.. If you want, you could also try
using a slackware package from linuxpackages.net that has a more recent version
of opengl, instead of compiling from source.

There were defects in the previous patch; this one I carefully checked, it
should be OK.
It succeeds on Windows (I have Windows 2000), but fails on Wine.
Particularly, in the sequence WmMaximizeMDIchildInvisibleParentSeq
there are many discrepancies (and of different nature) between
messages sent by Windows and by Wine.

Hi there,
I think the bug regarding the disk size was also reported under real MS Windows.
It occurrs when you're trying to install the game onto a partition formatted for
NTFS. It installs fine under real win2k, but the target partition must be
formatted in FAT32.
I don't know which function call under wine is called to return the available
disc size, but it seems to emulate the NTFS response...
Regards,
Frikkie

Dear Tom,
do you think, it makes sense for wine development testing which patch stopped
wine to work?
As I have written before, wine works fine up to 0.9.9. At least this
situation should be catched by ./configure.
I have normally installed Slackware 9. When I install OpenGL, my configuration
will change.

In know one (directx 8.1) game that checks for presence of
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/d3d8.dll.
So maybe it's just checking for d3d9.dll. So this could be worth a quick shot: do
"touch ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/d3d9.dll"
and try again. You might be lucky (but i fear not :) )
BTW what is the exact error massage it pops up?

Everquest II fails to detect DirectX 9.0c. I think this game would work if we
could fool the detection library into thinking we have DirectX 9.0c installed.
I think the problem has to do with the game looking for the Nvidia Control Panel
. Will try installing the nvidia control panel next and see what happens. Be
nice if there was a solution that didn't involve hot-patching the binary.

No, its indeed not a dup.
And the assertion is not bogus.
The real problem is that snes9x does the following.
Item.mask=LVIF_TEXT
=> Assertion fails.
But the application should not be allowed to change the mask in the first place.
The application should only change the text-related values of the item.
If it does mis-behave, wine should not copy this over.
It could also be already enough to just use the normal GetItem function, which
is not internal, but external and such copies the data.

I have what I believe to be the same behaviour in 0.9.12. Started out with
0.9.10 on Fedora Core 3, via yum (fedora-extras). I do not have fontforge
installed. (Should I? There seems to be some ambiguity about that.) Menu
fonts were working in the first app I tried, but blank in another app. (In that
second app, the menus come up blank initially, but the contents fill in as the
mouse is scrolled through them.) I decided to try upgrading to the latest
before asking/investigating that problem. Now with 0.9.12, the app that was
working has completely blank menus (no magical fill-in), and winecfg does as
well. Tried removing .wine and starting over; same result. Will attach
screenshot of winecfg; it's similar "Image of font problem" from Patrick.
I'm brand new to Wine. Sorry if this has an obvious solution.

Summary: Faststone Image Viewer doesn't show all images when
scrolling
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.12.
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
Faststone image viewer seems to generally work,
but when you're looking at a directory of images,
the right-hand pane only ever shows the
images that fit when it was first shown.
As you scroll down, the new images are not
populated in the right-hand pane, though
they show up fine in the left-hand pane.
