this bug. I propose to create the log like this:

It happens with a Chinese financial analysis software called "feihu". I don't
know why it asks for 4-plane and 8-plane bitmaps, and I don't understand why
Wine doesn't allow it, either. The error occurs every time you run the
software. The serious effect (I guess it is due to this problem) is that the
page that displays a list of stock attributes shows up blank (with horizontal
and vertical lines only, no text).

But this is how this use to work. Is this a change in the program? Is it going

If you want to test this, then you can not use vfat - Wine has some problem with it.
Also make sure that your /etc/hosts | grep 127 looks like this:
127.0.0.1 localhost
And doesn't have you "real" host name.

Summary: regression: x11drv patch causes print dialog to obscure
printed workspace in QCharts
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.12.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: cdunn42(a)yahoo.com
CC: julliard(a)codeweavers.com
Since wine 0.9.12, when using the "Print Workspace" feature in QCharts, the
print dialog shows on the printed page as it does on screen, obscuring the
workspace on the printout.
I have narrowed the problem to this patch :
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-cvs/2006-April/021984.html
The print workspace feature seems to just print out an image of the workspace
(which is contained in a scroll pane), unlike the "print chart" feature which
generates postscript, and does not produce the problem.
QCharts is subscription software, so I will aid in testing in whatever manner I
can, since I am already subscribed.
If you want to install the app for yourself (although it will be useless without
subscription), it is available from http://www.qcharts.com, Mozilla ActiveX
component required, MS native fonts reccomended, native dlls required :
mfc42.dll
msvcirt.dll
Let me know if I can help in any way.

Neither the private server exe supplied (for the XiLeRO server) nor the linuxexe
transmit any packets across eth0 on my box. Running Slackware 10.2.0 with a
custom 2.6.16.5 kernel, Wine 0.9.12.
Also, I get a lot of these:
fixme:imm:ImmReleaseContext (0x10024, 0x7a8c0028): stub
especially when I do a lot of login attempts.
Note; I'm running RO from my FAT32 games partition at present, it's not
installed in the Wine registry (although I have a means of getting the keys into
the Wine registry if need be).

Maybe you could try to change to driver provided by nvidia itsself, instead of
the one from livna. I guess this is not a bug in wine....

Thank you very much for all the support and the suggestions, although this is
not a Wine issue, but a Gentoo issue.
I am trying to figure out how to modify my 64 bit source code for libxml2 such
that a 32 bit library is generated. From the Wine source files, I have seen that
the following is required and maybe different from a 64 bit build:
<<<configure.ac>>>
CC="gcc -m32"
LD="ld -m elf_i386"
AS="as --32"
host_cpu="i386"
<<<lib/Makelib.rules>>> and <<<lib/Makefile>>>
libdir = /usr/lib32
Maybe applying these changes is sufficient? Am I missing something?

My problem with QCharts is still not fixed, as of wine-0.9.12. I can make the
problem disappear by changing line 5241 in dlls/oleaut32/typelib.c from
if (rgvt[i] == VT_VARIANT)
VariantCopy(&rgvarg[i], src_arg);
to
if (rgvt[i] & VT_VARIANT)
VariantCopy(&rgvarg[i], src_arg);
The equality check doesn't cover the case where the type is VT_VARIANT|VT_BYREF.
Not sure if that is the preferred correct solution, but it fixed the problem
for me, so I've been editing the file every time I get a new release of the wine
source so that my app will work.

Wine never gets a chance to load in this situation. The kernel is killing off
the process because it can't map the wine preloader into the area that is
specified in its ELF headers.

Hi there...
I've been working on it. I've got the same results more or less as wine 0.9.11
(bug 4975). I've been doing the manual install as well, and the error are
similar to the attachment here:
http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=2307&action=view
The GLX errors are not reproducible here, as I've not experienced those.
If I may propose, bugs 4975 and 5087 be merged as one, since this error started
occuring at the same time whatever patches were introduced in 02-28-2006

Yes.. That is the manual method. Could you do a regression test using the
manual method please? That is really the only supported way of installing IE6,
so if you can find the patch that broke it this time, we will try to get it fixed.

Ok, I deleted flashpoint a while back and just copied over the install from my
Windows partition and it starts, the screen goes black for a while then goes a
whiteish grey colour.If I hit escape a few times I can hear the music and the
menu items when I move my mouse which means it's actually on the menu screen
now, but all I can see is this weird whiteish grey colour. It does spit out hell
of a lot of 'fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_SetRenderState
(0xXXXXXXXX)->(WINED3DRS_SOMETHINGOROTHER,0) not handled yet
' messages which may be something to do with it, I'll post a log from the terminal.

.NET v2 claims to install on my machine and this is the log (attached, although
that's the log of telling it to do a repair as I can't actually uninstall it to
attempt another clean install), but anything that needs .NET v2 says it still
isn't installed, the uninstaller for it also doesn't work. Fixing this would be
useful as then I may actually be able to get Horizons working :P

Hi, i played around a bit with this, and i really think it's a bug in winsock.
In december there was a commit that changed flags from GENERIC_READ to
FILE_READ_DATA (
http://source.winehq.org/git/?p=wine.git;a=blobdiff;h=75de7f56f15ff0791a67b…)
) after applying the attached patch (reverting one of those changes) the
program doesn't hang anymore. However , i'm not sure if the program works then
as expected as i don't know exactly how how the program should work. Peter,
could you apply the attached patch , and see if the program works correctly,
and report back please ? Thanks.

I was able to do some regression testing, and found that I could install IE6
through 2006-02-27 using the wine-config-sidenet, but whatever patches were
applied on the 28th broke that method.
However, as Tom noted, perhaps I should be using the DLLOverrides method. (is
that the same as the method noted on the Application Database for IE6 as the
"manual" method? It uses ie6_overrides.reg.) The above attachment is what I
get from installing using the Manual method. I know there are some GLX display
errors, but I'm pretty certain that they are unrelated, I get the same basic
errors on another computer I am working with.
Thanks again!

Unless I'm mistaken, 64-bit versions of every distro should have the 32-bit libs
installed by default, just in a diff location (i.e. /usr/lib32 or something
similar). If they aren't there, you may want to check the install CD's/DVD's,
and if nothing else, check the Gentoo docs and wiki. You technically shouldnt
have to setup a chroot enviroment to run 32-bit programs, whether it is wine,
some windows app, or a native linux program that just doesnt have a 64-bit version.
If you do have a /usr/lib32 directory, try building from source by downloading
the tarball at
http://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/system/emulators/wine/wine-0.9.12.tar.bz2
I will email you the rest of the instructions to avoid comment spam.

Thanks, I am learning. I have checked that Wine is a 32 bit executable using 32
bit libraries. I am new to this, so I do not know how this is done with the 64
bit compiler that is installed, and I will have a closer look at the make files.
I am using the Gentoo ebuild packages without any modifications.
That still leaves me with the problem of creating the 32 bit libxml2 library and
whatever other library there may be missing in a 64 bit Linux system. Can
somebody point me to any documentation (1) what 32 bit libraries to install and
(2) how to compile the 32 bit libraries in a 64 bit system? Do I really have to
set up a 32 bit environment (chroot?) for that?
I realize that this is not a bug and any discussion on that topic may be better
placed in a discussuion forum. However, I wonder if I am the only person
encountering these problems? Maybe there could be some Section in the
documentation and/or a FAQ entry on that topic? Thank you.

Not to sound arrogant or anything, but you do realize that compiling a 64-bit
wine means you can _only_ run 64-bit programs, right?
With that being said, are the programs you are getting this message under the
32-bit or 64-bit versions of these programs? If you are using any 32-bit
programs, then you will need 32-bit libraries installed at compile time.
Out of sheer curiosity, what were the commands you used to compile wine?

Thank you for the reply. I have not installed the 32 bits version of libxml2. It
seems that I missed that in the documentation somewhere? I have a 64 bit system
with a 64 bit Wine compile, and I am a bit surprised that I need a 32 bits
libxml2 library. Are there more such dependencies on other 32 bit libraries? Is
there an easy way to get that library, or do I have to set up a 32 bit system in
chroot for that purpose? My apologies if this is a common problem, but I was not
aware of that issue and I did not find a solution through some search before.

Not neccessarily a good assumption.
We should come up with a consensus on how to handle these.
FWIW, there's no problem with bugs staying closed in 'worksforme' state,
that's just as honorable a situation as having them closed in 'fixed' state --
and possibly more accurate.

that winetools setup no longer works. As for the others, I assume that they
do something similar. I'm not sure where it is in the docs, but there are

those please and let us know if that works or not.
P.S. The instructions may be in any one of the wikis now as well, so you could

When running some programs under Wine 0.9.12, I get the following
error message:
"This program tried to use a DOMDocument object,
libxml2 support was not present at compile time."
The error message seems to be generated by some source code
from Wine itself, i.e. wine/dlls/msxml3/domdoc.c
However, the part of the program with the error message
will only be compiled when libxml2 is not present at
compile time, i.e. when the variable HAVE_LIBXML2 in Wine is false.
In my Gentoo system, libxml2 was installed with version 1.8.17-r2
at compile time, but that variable was not set correctly.

I'm getting the 80040707 error trying to install DesignCAD 3D Max v14.1 on
Fedora Core 5 under Wine. The application database indicates that this version
of DesignCad has worked for others on older versions of wine. The wine version
is wine-0.9.11-1.fc5.rpm. I get this string of error messages before wine locks
up / dies:
fixme:msi:MsiGetProductInfoW L"" L"PackageCode" 0x7ff10e98 0x7fc9d8b0

I should note that this is my first attempt ever to use wine. I basically typed
"yum install wine" followed by inserting the DesignCAD CD and typing "wine
setup.exe". I couldn't find any documentation on how to install windows programs
under wine (there's plenty on how to run windows programs that are installed) so
I just made my best guess.

Go into wine configuration (winecfg) and create a custom definition under
"Applications" for the game you wish to resolve the fullscreen issue for. Then
under "Graphics" remove the check next to "Allow the window manager to control
the windows". This is the third check box you see under version 0.9.12. Once
you are done making any other changes you need for your specific audio
preference et cetra then click "OK". Now launch the game as you normally would.
Wine now renders your game fullscreen on top of all other elements of your
environment without caring what your window manager thinks about it.

Commit was before I finished testing.
I have been setting my virtual desktop to my screen size and then putting on an
empty KDE page. I move the top window bar and move it off the top of the screen
so the desktop background fits all on my screen.
If you don't slide it off screen things seem to work as desired.
So having the desktop at left = -2 and top -20 cause some z-order problems.

2. Move mouse to Open and click

If the virtual desktop in not checked the 1,2,3 sequence works.
If you click on menu itme commdlg and release over Open it work in either case.
I noticed that in the virtual desktop that when a modal window of an application
pops up and you finish and close it a different application dialog box would pop

After finding the file ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/inf/dcom98.inf I double checked
and each of the files it mentioned where in the ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system
directory.
So DCOM98 is installed.
Would a different version be a better choice?
I had installed DCOM alredy because I had read that QuickBooks Pro 2006 required
that it was installed in order to run.

It's already installed or at least that's what I was lead to believe.
<G>or<G> At least I told the "ie4linux" script to install dcom98.exe and the
script download the file {dcom98.exe} and it went through the motions of
installing it.
{note after using "ie4linux" I then moved the install at ~/.ie4linux/ie6 back
to ~/.wine }
What files {or other signs} should I look for to see if DCOM was really installed?

Whatever that last line means bring it to a dead STOP and a failed install.
note: to get this far you will also need a copy of "userenv.dll"
I'm trying to defaultly use "win 2000" or above settings.
You can download a copy of QuickBooks Pro 2006 at:
<http://quickbooks.intuit.com/downloads/2006/quickbooks_pro.jhtml>
{Follow the instruction on the web page and "TEMP" will have a copy of all the

This is a "SHOW STOPPER" and will not allow the install of QuickBooks Pro 2006
to complete.

Still happens today. Just a bit hard to reproduce,
since it requires lwn.net to serve up the right ad.
When it happens, and I do View Source, the ad in question
appears to be brought in by the code

Mike,
Thanks for the quick response. The command line you suggest does open a console.
Trying to run is.exe in that console still presents the white rectangle and "Bad
Path" error. Is there any documentation that would begin to suggest how to get
around this?
The wine-users guide suggests two ways to invoke it. The first has an error in it:
"wineconsole -- --backend=user foo.exe" - that first "--" has to go. This
version doesn't succeed with is.exe.
The second is what I was doing before:
"wineconsole foo.exe" - which it says should default to --backend=curses, which
produces the error I reported before. The guide does seem to say that this is a
"way it was designed to be used."
So the guide needs at least one, maybe two fixes - removing that "--" in the
first method, and clarifying the use of wcmd as the preferable way of running
things in the second, if that's really the case (although it didn't help for
me). The first method does mention requiring "USER32 DLL" - which I haven't
checked for in my default install. It's not throwing an error about that though.
Instead it's briefly flashing a fresh, small X console window on the screen
which promptly disappears - that's all it does.

The usual way to run command line programs is to run wcmd first. wineconsole is
not the command interpreter. Try:
~/wine/wine wineconsole --backend=user wcmd
It's not really correct to say it's not working, as you aren't using it in the
way it was designed to be used.
As for documentation, if you want some, feel free to write it. It may be in the
wine-users guide already, so check there first.

particularly Info Select, getting errors like for "wineconsole is.exe": "Bad
Path" and nothing much more (well, a white rectangle just before that). Other
programs, other errors. Wineconsole does not appear to have a help screen, a man
page, or any documentation on WineHQ. Is it supposed to be working? It would be
nice to at least see its status documented, since it's included with Wine.
That Info Select was running fine on this sytem with dosemu/freedos - until a
Gentoo upgrade screwed that up. It would be nice if wineconsole handled it.

Ok... I don't have enough time to finish this regression test. But from what
I've found the install was broken between the 21 and the 23 of March 2006. I
don't have time today to finish finding the exact patch.
I'll try to get it pin pointed a little later. Hopefully however you will be
able to extrapolate from there which patch it is. If I don't hear back about
this I'll finish the regression analysis.

Could this problem be caused by color depth issues? I tried it under VMware and
there it refused to work when bit-depth was 32bits. Unfortunately I couldn't
test other bit-depths.
Seems like the game requires the display to be at least 800x600-16bits.
Otherwise it doesn't start.

I'd like to recomend and observer pattern that may solve your problem here in
getting this stuff to work. This way you can have the child window update when
the parent window updates. You can have as many windows update as you want. And
you can have an individual child update by creating a separate update window for
it. Hope this helps.
class Subject;
class Observer {
public:
virtual ~Observer();
virtual void update(Subject* theChangedParent) = 0;
protected:
Observer();
}
class Subject {
public:
virtual ~subject();
virtual void attach(Observer*);
virtual void detatch(Observer*);
virtual void notify();
protected:
Subject();
private:
List<Observer*> _observers;
};
void Subject::attach(Observer* obj) {
_observers.Append(obj);
}
void Subject::detach(Observer* obj) {
_observer.Remove(obj);
}
void Subject::notify() {
ListIterator<Observer*> i(&_observers);
for(i.First(); !i.IsDone(); i.Next()) {
i.CurrentItem() -> update(this);
}
}

I agree with willie on this issue of using a window for an openGL control. While
it is true that its not desirable to use a separate window for regular controls
seeing as this isn't the way microsoft does it in their API. It is necessary for
some controls in windows. Not many. They are the exceptions. GL viewports is
one of them. So are certain activeX controls and so are controls to display
video in movie players.
Let me say the best solution is to implement GL viewports as a window. I agree
that most of the controls don't need it. IE no point in allocating an entire
window for a button. Even if this is how its done in X, Its not done that way in
Windows. But viewports are one area where a window is necessary. Not just GL
viewports but also view ports for most media players. And it would be useful for
some activeX controls to have those implemented as a separate window in X.
I know you guys are probably going to frown about the whole idea of video
players being in a view port but you won't be able to get some of the
functionality in those programs without it. For instance, right clicking on the
control and having it go to full screen. Thats usually a window that get
expanded to take up the whole screen. It requires a separate window. So this
may kill a few birds with one stone. Just food for thought.
I suggest taking some of the old WM code and incorperating it in with the new
way of doing things. A hybrid solution seems to be the best solution here. Its
not a hack in my opinion.

>From what I understand of the ICCC standard. There is a way for you to set a
flag on a window to have the WM ignore the window entirely. I believe thats part
of the convention.
But its been a while since I read that document. And I didn't understand a whole
lot of it when I did. But I do remember that flag being there. If the window
managers are ICCC compatible then that would be your work around.
However. Thats assuming that its the window manager in X doing this. Its nothing
more then a flag that gets set on the actual window.

Screens look like they go through the entire installation. However when we look
back in the install tree there are no executables and DLL's installed.
Something broke between 0.9.10 and 0.9.11. It also doesn't work in 0.9.12
It also takes an increadibly short period of time to go through the entire
installation.

The first time you start the game, you'll have to hit "Agree" on the Microsoft EULA.
On Wine, the window containing the EULA and "Agree" button will be hidden under
the AoM splash screen, so you'll have to use ALT+A into the hidden window.
Make sure that this isn't the problem you're facing before posting a bug report.

Backtrace for iTunes and Quicktime Installer.
The program in this case never crashes out right but the program never ends
either. When it gets to the quick time installation the install process
continuously cycles through the installation. It displays the progress bar over
and over again.
When looking at the back trace its having trouble with some complex type.
This is an improvement above what was there before. It wasn't even initializing
the driver in install shield before. So there is some progress here. I think we
are looking at a different bug here.
Files are not getting copied. I'm wondering did someone change the code after
0.9.10. Because ever since I'm finding files aren't getting copied to the right
places. This isn't the only place I'm seeing this. I'm also seeing it in the
office installer. Although this is giving completely different error from that.

Test run for directX using 0.9.12 version of wine.
This is a major change in the bugs in this program. The directX screen is now
opening. I even get a picture on the screen for some of the projects. Whats
happening though is that the program is not useable. Its almost like the window
manager grabs the window for the directX component and resizes it. Could be an
issue with window management.

I'm adding the backtrace from that test run.

Backtrace of MS Office install program when attempting to install it with a
fresh wine directory.
During this process the program acts like it is completing the entire
installation. But after its gone through and you check the directories for the
executable you find that the executables and dlls for office were never
installed.
The installer produces the the backtrace that I attached to this comment.

This bug is still happening on fedora core 4 in version 0.9.12. First the
installer is definetly not working. Even if I want to cancel the installation at
startup. If I press the cancel button the installer doesn't close out.
Second the installer goes through the entire install process. It says that the
installation is complete. When I go to check to see if the files are installed.
They aren't installed at all.

I've patched msvcrt and compiling in IDEs lik GLBasic should work now.
To compile from command line, you have to set several environment variables
with regedit.
Do a Google mingw GCC_EXEC_PREFIX
Environment variables are at location
HK_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment
