I was able to grab a screenshot of the main progress dialog at the moment of
program crash. Actually, it looks like the reason it's crashing is that it's
trying to create windows registry hives. Perhaps support for hives could be
improved.
Oddly, +relay causes an immediate kernel32 segfault.

Look inside the program directory. There are windows ports of mkisofs.exe and
cdrecord.exe in there that the program uses. I can run them with "wine mkisofs"
and "wine cdrecord" and they seem to work when run from the command line.
However, trying to run the program, "wine pebuilder" and, with the XP cd in the
drive, pressing the "build" button: a dialog flashes by, listing a bunch of
steps before the program crashes, stopping on "reading .inf file
(path)/serialmouse.inf" And it crashes even if you choose not to burn a cd or
make an image and instead just try to build the directory tree:

Summary: InsertMenuItem, GetMenuString fails with MFT_OWNERDRAW
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.1.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P4
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: andrew7webb(a)comcast.net
A Menu item containing a string, which is also owner drawn cannot be retrieved
with GetMenuString.
A very short C program (attached) will work on windows but fail on wine.
The crucial code is:
MENUITEMINFO mii;
mii.fMask= MIIM_FTYPE | MIIM_STRING;
mii.fType= MFT_OWNERDRAW;
...
if ( InsertMenuItem( hMenu, uItem, fByPosition, &mii ) ) {
if ( GetMenuString( hMenu, uItem, strback, 99, MF_BYPOSITION ) ) {
MessageBox( 0, "GetMenuString worked.", strback, MB_OK );
} else {
MessageBox( 0, "GetMenuString failed.", title, MB_OK );
}
GetMenuString will fail on wine, but succeed on windows.
After examining the problem , it appears that the relevant source code is the
function SetMenuItemInfo_common, the function GetMenuStringA, and the macro
IS_STRING_ITEM in user/menu.c The concept of having a string and the
MF_OWNERDRAW specified seems to cause trouble in the macro.

Does not need XP to run, just needs an XP boot CD to copy files from, AFAIK.
Do you mean "obsoleted" winaspi? And which? Is it wine's or PE Builder's
handling of winaspi that is obsoleted? If this is a common problem maybe it's a
dup. Perhaps I will try installing the windows aspi drivers under wine, heh.

Wasn't it stated on the website that it really needs winXP to work?
cd-burning doesn't work because of absoleted winaspi.

This may well be related to "eLicense" the copy protection scheme used.
It can be cured by INSTALLING (origionally - a reinstall won't fix) and running
this game in win98 mode (probably installs a diffrent form of the licensing service)

Vitaliy, please stop trying to close that bug, it's a perfectly legitimate report.
Maybe no one is working on it at the moment, but having a bug about it is the
best way to encourage someone to start. So please reopen it (for some reason I
don't have the right to do that...)

Enough answers in wine-users?
This will not be looked at for a long time. This is is why it's "LATER" (after 1.0).
Wine is missing whole that layer. And it's not a simple thing to implement.
Also for ovious reasons you can't use native dlls for these stuff (ntdll,
kernel, advapi, etc).

Sorry I was unclear.
The patch breaks Delphi 1 ide and it won't start.
The patch fixes an internal application that only runs a second or so depending
on the size of and which code runs.
Delphi 1 ide is real before the patch as several components can not be added to
forms. It will compile some project to a working EXE.

"So back to the bug."
Ok.
"Does the Windows version works with latest Wine?"
Not complete installing process.
How is the Linux version different from Windows version?
With the desktop managers and O.S. integrations.
If you want to try (best):
http://www.bricscad.com/download/B4L_certified.jsp
1) you can download linux version (.tar.gz file).
2) Unpack it in your home.
3) Copy bricscad folder in your /opt directory.
4) /opt/bricscad/./icad (to start)
If you can prove it with 2005 and 0.9.x version.
In my ubuntu, are installed wine 20050725, libwine 0.9.2-winehq-1.

Logging in to :pserver:cvs@cvs.winehq.org:2401/home/wine
CVS password:
My wine password, not functionally with CVS.
I'm too inexpert to use it (i think).
I'have an idea:
I write on my shell " strace -o bricscad2005.txt wine /opt/bricscad/./icad" with
wine 2005xxx.
In second stage i upgrade wine to new version, and repeat "strace -o
bricscad09.txt wine /opt/bricscad/./icad".
When the files are generated, i lodge you the report files.
Is it possible? If no, can you explain me when i obtain CVS and using it?
I'm sorry for this situation.
Thank you

Hi, this might be related to bug 3690 :
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3690
when i unpack the rar archive in my root directory (/) and run layout40.exe it
seems to hang in the splashscreen , some further investigation shows it is
scanning my whole hard disk; it calls FindNextFileW a zillion times.
If i unpack it in ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files and run layout40.exe it only
takes 1 second to start (there are almost no files right there) . See
screenshot
Maybe you could try to change the directory from where you run it as well ;
from what directory do you run it now?

If it runs fine with you on elder wine versions i'd suggest you do a regression

Hi, i just tried and it indeed segfaults. However, using older versions of wine
(like 20050524) doesn't work either here; it complains about not being able to
load icad.dll. However the "pure" windows version from
http://www.bricscad.com/download/BCAD_certified.jsp seems to work just fine in
wine.

Because with old Wine version (2005xxxx), Bricscad function perfectly.
I presume that Wine has changed in part of source code, and this modify is a
problem for wine.

I go by the instruction. I get the archive full-cvs-2005-11-30.tar.gz
I copy it into my home and unpack it. New directory is created: cvs-commit
By the howto, next step I should do is: mv wine repository
It dosen't make sense, however. I have no wine directory in my home.
Is the name of directory inside cvs archive the first variable?

Summary: mozilla activex control download dialog is potentially
confusing
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.2.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: michael.s.gilbert(a)gmail.com
The newest versions of wine ask the user if they would like to install the
mozilla activex control when an application makes calls to ie, which is a good
thing. However, the download dialog is not very clear. the current text is:
"The application is requesting an ActiveX broser object but the Mozilla Active X
control is currently not installed. Do you wish to download and install it?"
This is fine and good for the computer savy, but the average user will have no
idea what this means. so statistically, 50% will say yes, and 50% will say no.
hence, wine will not work as expected for 50% of the users, and they will say
this software isn't useful because all they see is that their software of choice
didn't work.
i propose the following as a clearer prompt:
"This application requires an extra Wine component to enable web browsing. If
you select "yes," 5 MB of data will be downloaded and installed. However, if
you select "no," the application likely will not run.
Would you like Wine to automatically download and install the web browsing feature?"

Summary: arabic (and probably other RTL languages) dont render
correctly in Notepad
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.1.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: maysara_a_a(a)yahoo.com
Trying to write arabic in notepad doesn't render correctly at all, changing the
window and getting back to it makes things a little better(you can read seperate
characters), but still doesn't do the shaping or binding, and thus it unusable
as an editor (This issue probably affects lots of other stuff related to RTL).
To duplicate, just open notepad in wine, set keyboard layout to arabic and type
anything in notepad.starting from the letter "a" to "l", things should look like:
ÔÓÃ釂抋
so try to press those keys and look how it looks.then switch to another window ,
then get back to notepad, see how it looks again, in both cases its not the
desired behaviour.

do you know where i can get the tg mozilla control source? i'd like to do a
diff and see if i can find what they've changed. is the problem with the
mozilla control or is it with steam? bug #3466 seems to indicate that it is a
problem with steam, but why then does the transgaming control work?
i agree, the user should be in the loop on the download. i still think that the
dialog is potentially confusing. i will file a new bug with an appropriate subject.

I still don't see how #2 & #3 related to the subject of this bug?
For #1 you proven yourself that it's control's bug (not having msvcp60.dll which
is a must according to m$).
#2 - I have no idea what is wrong, but it works with TG's controls (without
touching wine in any way, except registering dll). So again I don't see why is
that Wine responsible here?
#3 - It's been discussed on the list that any automated actions taken by Wine
without telling the user is WRONG. Wine should not attempt to download 10MB+
file and start it without telling user about this. We came up with the automated
script and desctribution means to download and install this file.

1. i thought this was a wine-specific problem, but i just tried installing on a
windows 98 box (which may be missing msvcp60.dll as well) and got the same
dialog asking me to select the layout library location. i will contact the
mozilla control developer about this.
2. this is wine's bug, because steam does not work until the mozilla control works.
3. my argument here was to just install the control without involving the user
because if she unwitting selects "no", her application will not work (a timeout
would mean don't install). please reread my second message. this assumes that
the control does work when it is installed.

This bug is old - It dosn't apply to wine 0.9.2 (where this program has other

I suggest 7.13b - it works well.

Zmud, a MUD client with powerfull scripting and mapping support, hasn't worked
too well with wine for a while, but with the recent OLE stuff it seems to do
quite well.
The version of zMud in question is 7.13b - not the latest 7.21 (which uses a
diffrent registration system and is broken seperatly)
--Errors I see--
When you load the mapper i get this:

Downgraded to P5/minor. It is caused by the use of alt-tab. The workaround is
not to use alt-tab to task switch. It seems to be a known bug (see:

not seem to be in bugzilla.

BTW, your app seems to use lots of VB DLLs. If you dare, install DCOM9x [*] and
try to run your app with WINEDLLOVERRIDES='ole32,oleaut32,rpcrt4=n' ,
If no, run app with WINEDEBUG=+process,+tid,+loaddll and attach the log. (don't
compress it as it should be small)
That should help finding what exactly process fails to connect to the DB or so.

Peto, I am not a lawyer but quoting DCOM95 license gives:
| 1. GRANT OF LICENSE. This EULA grants you the following rights:
|
| * Software License. Microsoft grants you the right to make and use as
| many copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT as you have validly licensed copies
| of Microsoft(r) Windows(r) 95.
As Microsoft(r) Windows(r) 95 are unsupported, this OS licenses are about to be
invalid, I guess. Still using Windows 95, 98, 2000 can be legal if you have
valid WinXP license in the case of OEM product. Similar grants are available
for other kinds of distribution of MS OSes. Table of grants should be found
somewhere on microsoft.com, but I already forgot where exactly.
So maybe you can use DCOM95 once (if you have one valid WinXP license) and only
copy some of package DLLs many times after, ah?
At least the you should be able to test whether it helps your software to be run
with Wine.

i'm advocating automation. in order for wine to work optimally for the average
user, she shouldn't have to know that a softlink is necessary to make the
activex control work properly. she shouldn't even have to know what an activex
control replacement is. she should just know that running 'wine <windows
application>' installs her application and it works. she shouldn't have to jump
through hoops about should i install this or that; should i click-through this
or that. i mean most users will not know what installing an activex control
really means. so statistically, 50% will say yes, and 50% will say no. hence,
wine will not work as expected for 50% of the users, and they will say this
software isn't useful because all they see is that their software of choice
didn't work.
i'm trying to provide the average user's perspective here. and i think this
issue is too important to discard prematurely, so i am reopening. i'd hope to
see this addressed before 1.0 as people will draw their final conclusions about
wine once it hits 1.0. and it will be hard to sway them back after that.
regards,
mike

i shall describe the best way to get around this issue. wait until the steam
installation hangs at 26%, then type
$ killall -9 wine-preloader ; wineboot
you can type this directly in the same console that you launched wine because it
has spawned the 'wine-preloader' process in a new thread. every time that the
installer hangs at 26%, rinse and repeat (press the keyboard up arrow, then
press enter). the following errors indicates that something has gone wrong
err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow <n> bytes in thread 000e eip 00488494
esp 7d7fd000 stack 0x7d7fc000-0x7d8fc000
where <n> seems to take on different values (0, 16, 24, 28). when you see this
error, you should feel free to issue the above command. when you get the
following error on the console, you are good to go, the steam installer will
start at 28% and go to completion
err:seh:EXC_DefaultHandling Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable
to dispatch exception.
a word of advice: be patient. sometimes this works on the first or second try.
sometimes it takes 20 or more.
good luck.

Summary: Mozilla ActiveX Control asks wine user for windows
mozilla libs
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.2.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: michael.s.gilbert(a)gmail.com
The newest versions of wine ask the user if they would like to install the
mozilla activex control when an application makes calls to ie, which is a good
thing. However, during the installation, the installer asks the user where the
"Mozilla layout libraries" are. This is very confusing for joe user. I mean
what is a layout library anyway, and how would i find this? I think it means
that i should have the windows version of mozilla already installed, and i
should direct the installer to one of the directories in that installation, but
which one, i don't know.
I can select "z:\usr\bin" where the Linux binary is located, but this doesn't
work, so I know that my choice was wrong. But what is the right choice?
Anyway, I think that the Mozilla Control installation should always proceed
without any user intervention. Most users will want this without a doubt, and
those that click "no" will wonder why their application does not work. Could
the mozilla control be included as a part of the wine core so that everything
just works? This is all free software, so it should be doable, right?
Thanks for all your hard work on wine. This would be a nice feature that would
benefit a lot of applications like steam.
Regards,
Mike

We check for "FILE:" and handle that in winspool, but the current printing is
done in the 16-Bit-way of Wwin3.x.
WINEDEBUG"+winspool" does not help for this Problem, we need "+print" to get
more informations.
see: "dlls/gdi/printdrv.c"
We need to check, why the Functions from GDI are used and not the Functions from
"winspool.drv" (or whatever driver is defined for that printer).

Instructions I've posted will install dlls for win98 not winXP.
If you have to use native dlls, then best choise is win2k. Then win98. WinXP is
the worst and most of the time they won't work. That's why you are missing the
point when I said "don't use native dlls from WinXP".
Most part of this post ppl were trying to get advapi32.dll from winXP work on
Wine (which is impossible ATM and in the near future).
As far as the problem goes, could you get winsock trace and attach here?
(WINEDEBUG=+winsock wine blah.exe &> /tmp/winsock.log)

Which commands are variable? You can change the date of the command, but that's
pretty obvious. The only thing I can think of to add to this page is regression
testing with git, or maybe that belongs in the wiki.

Summary: Regression testing howto incomplete and unfriendly
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.2.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-documentation
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tuharsky(a)misbb.sk
Hi,
I'm involved in resolving several bugs and since they almost all fall into
regression, I have been adviced to find out the patch that has broken things.
For doing that, I use howto at
http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/winedev-guide/x1344
The howto is of little help for me however. It seems too focused to some
concrete archive and situation from 2 years ago. Some things have changed since,
and the howto dosen't reflect the variability.
The howto should be more detailed and should explain each step, not just spit
out some command shell lines.
Please, improve the howto in these ways:
1, comment the sense of EACH COMMAND, so that user could change parameters, if
needed, to reflect actual situation
2, take care to ensure, that howto is useful even for users that never met CVS
before (like me)

Hallo,
I have chosen the full CVS download because on-line CVS takes too much effort to
enable and is dependent on too many things (firewall settings etc.) And I have
downloaded the full cvs archive yet so not very useful to get it all once over
again thru CVS.
I'm trying hard but the howto is unfriendly and unclear. I'm posting new issue,
'cause I have will to do the testing but the documentation dosen't help me much.

Vitaliy Margolen, thanks for the quick response. Sorry for the cedega
reference. The problem is this:
Loading diablo is fine as usual
It goes through the little intro videos/logos.
It gets to the main menu type thing...where you choose if you want single
player or get on battle.net
Single player works, however.. If you click on 'Battle.net' to get on a realm,
it crashes.
So yeah, you can play single player but not multiplayer (battle.net). This
has something to do with the new 1.11b patch.
Hopefully this can be fixed.
