Hi can you open a separate bug report for openGL problem (if it exists on
current CVS) with more informations.
For d3d problem you game seems to mix ddraw and d3d8 :(
Can you test with new d3d8 layer of Oliver:
http://winehq.com/pipermail/wine-devel/2005-November/042030.html
And report what happened after
I think you will have a dinput problem after (but it should be another bug report)
Thx

This olg game (directX 7) would be playable with wine if there are not small
graphical glitches, (see screenshot).
It appears there are only 2 missed function in to have this game playable.
Since I am not a developper, I hope that someone would like to do the job.

Status: NEW

Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc

ReportedBy: xerox_xerox2000(a)yahoo.co.uk
The Serious Sam demo doesn't start unless you put a file opengl32.dll in
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 (e.g. touch
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/opengl32.dll is enough). As the other
SeriousSam bug is closed i'll copy some info from Peter Buettner:
"it first tries to find the dll via SearchPath(), before trying to load it.
And SearchPath() didn't report builtin dlls.
workaround: place any file(named opengl32.dll) in your system folder
eg.: "touch ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/opengl32.dll" will do it
proper solution: yet to find, probably a question for wine-devel"

Strange. The first 3 were in my old /drive_c/windows/system directory from
previous wine install & I'm sure I didn't install them.
There is no opengl32.dll.so in my /usr/lib/wine.
This install was from debian unstable packages not compiled from source
& opengl.dll was not included. Perhaps there is a problem with the debian
package?
I am trying to find out if my system (debian sid started with kanotix bh9a)
has opengl support included. I think so but not sure how to check it out.

Yes, we need our database as this info should be provided by directx part of

Anyway it will be a lot better to get card ID/name and vendor ID/name using
pci scan and X log parsing. If anyone have motivation to develop it feel free

The first three dlls you mention were never included in wine, and i guess never
will be. They should either be provided by your application or you could ccopy
them from a windows install. if your application can't find glu32 and opengl32
that could be a real bug. Did you compile opengl support into your wine ( maybe
you could check if there is a opengl.dll.so in your /usr /local/lib/wine ) If
not, set up your opengl stuff in linux first.

wine: for some mysterious reason, the wine server failed to run.
Wine failed with return code 1
It appears Turbocad is creating keys in the system.reg file which are too
long for wine to handle. I am suggesting this bug should be treated as
severe because it leaves wine in a totally inoperable state until the
system.reg file is restored.

I am trying to get Turbocad v7 Std to run in wine. It requires several .dll's
which appear to no longer be included with wine These are MSVCP60.dll,
MFC42.DLL, MSVCIRT.dll. These were included with the previous release
(prior to 0.9). This application also requires glu32.dll and opengl32.dll.
Please include these .dll's with wine.
There are other problems with this app but that is a different bug.

I'm quite sure this bug doesn't affect 1973 at all. Not even the color depth
seem to affect Mirage, the problem has to be elsewhere. I already offered a
bounty on 1973, but got no feedback yet...
I'll therefore remove 1973 from this blocker list.

Version: 0.9.1.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: stevenp500(a)bellsouth.net
I'm using wine 0.9.1 on a Mandriva 2006 system (kernel 2.6.12). I downloaded
the newest iTunes (6, I think). I already have IE 6 and DCOM98 installed. I
change the default version to Windows 2000, and when I run 'wine
iTunesSetup.exe', It starts fine, asks my language, then goes to the
Installshield part. The bar gets all of the way to the end, then gets about
1/6 of the way through the second and just disappears. I did the same thing
from an xterm and got this:
[steven@localhost ~]$ wine iTunesSetup.exe
fixme:richedit:RichEditANSIWndProc WM_SETFONT: stub
fixme:richedit:RichEditANSIWndProc EM_EXLIMITTEXT: stub
fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000580
[steven@localhost ~]$
The return value is 0, which is puzzling.
If I try it as XP or 2003, it says that the installshield version is old then
gives me an error.

Three notes:
1. 20050830 is ancient. Please retest with the current release, 0.9.1.
2. Regardless of whether the USB drive is mounted properly or
recognized by the app, Wine should not be exhibiting the
problem in Clay's comment #1.
3. We want Wine/Linux to reproduce the user experience of Windows
here. When run on a Linux distro that automounts USB drives
and notifies apps of the event (say, using DBUS), Picasa on Wine
should faithfully notice the event and show the pictures on the
USB drive in the import window.
On Linux, apps like gnome-volume-manager are how automounting
and the like are handled. Clay, you might want to verify that
gnome-volume-manager is installed and that the USB drive shows
up on your desktop when you insert the drive. If it doesn't,
you may need to find an Ubuntu box to test on. (Not sure
ubuntu 04.10 is new enough to have gnome volume manager, but
the later versions have it.)

Picasa calls ReadDirectoryChangesW which is currently a stub in Wine.
An implementation should be doable, since support for file change
notifcations is already there. It's not based on FAM though, it directly
uses DNOTIFY. Oh, and DNOTIFY has just been deprecated, we should look at
moving to INOTIFY.

Does your Linux recognizes this "USB key"? If so, have you mounted/auto mounted
it? And if so, have you pointed Wine to it's mount point?

Could you try latest Wine version (0.9.1) and report back?
Also make you sure you have fam installed and working. As that's what Wine uses
to detect file changes and a particular directory.

Summary: Duplicated entries appear in the Picasa list if the
initial scan is terminated badly
Product: Wine

Using Wine from CrossOver 5, Picasa installs and runs well.
I have many images, so it takes it quite a while to scan my hard drive.
During the first scan, I poked around and encountered one
of the crashes (I think I tried ordering prints).
When I restarted Picasa, it went back to scanning, but now
folders from the first scan are duplicated in the left hand
column.

#3: Not for me, with WINE 0.9.1. Trying to run winamp.exe after the install
results in the same dialog box popping up, and a pagefault.
#2: I tried using the native msvcp60.dll, but this didn't change anything. How
do I force WINE to use the native dll?
Is this all because Winamp is trying to access the net, even if you select the
"not connected to the net" option during the install?

> if you want it that way you should file extra bugs for all things that need to

A meta bug wouldn't be very useful in this situation.
>btw.: the user mostly don't know what are the issues why the app fails. So
often you will only have a "generic" bug a la "app xy don't work".
If the reporter can't describe the problem then we developers ask questions of
the user and narrow down the problem.
> Your proposal actually implies that the dev(s) who try to solve the bug have
to open bugs for every issue they encounter.
It's not the responsibility of the developers to split a generic bug report into
individual issues, but some of the time this is what happens.
> I don't think that works.

Summary: Picasa doesn't autodetect images on the fly
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
URL: http://dl.google.com/picasa/picasa2-current.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc

ReportedBy: clay.wood(a)gmail.com
CC: dank(a)kegel.com
I'm running version 20050830 installed from the rpm for a Red Hat 9 i686 build.
Autodetecting images doesn't work as smoothly on WINE as it does when run on
Windows.
Here's the version of Picasa I installed:
http://dl.google.com/picasa/picasa2-current.exe
To reproduce:
1. Save an image into the "My Pictures" directory. You can do this any way you
like, although I did so from a web browser by mousing over an image then right
click->Save Image As....
2. Picasa displays no change in the number of pictures it has found. I would
normally expect it to automatically show a new thumbnail of this picture in the
"My Pictures" folder.
Notes:
The picture must be large enough to be shown in Picasa. If your image is small,
you must click View->Small Pictures before Picasa will show it.
If you restart Picasa the image will sometimes be detected automatically.
Otherwise I've found that I have to click Tools->Folder Manager... and hit OK
before the image is detected.

if you want it that way you should file extra bugs for all things that need to
be fixed and let this bug depend on them.If anybody volunteers to do that, fine.
But now we have a bug "Serious Sam First Encounter demo doesn't work" declared
as fixed, so I am supposed to think the application works, although we know it
doesn't. Thats simply misleading.

I'm running version 20050830 installed from the rpm for a Red Hat 9 i686 build.
When I click on "Import", insert a USB key and try to access the device, Picasa
doesn't list it as an option to import from.
Here's the version of Picasa I installed:
http://dl.google.com/picasa/picasa2-current.exe
To reproduce:
1. Select "Import from..." from File menu.
2. Picasa goes to the import screen allowing users to select a device from which
to import.
3. Insert the USB key into a USB port.
4. When you click on the "Select Device the drop-down menu shows only
"Folder...". I would normally expect to see a "Removable Drive(E:)" option in
the drop-down menu.

You need to file separate bug reports for each issue that keeps you from running
the game out of the box. A generic bug report like "App X doesn't work" isn't
useful to the people trying to fix it. It's easier to keep track of remaining
bugs as well when they're separate.

mesage trace fragment for wine 0.9.1
Here is another trace - this time starting from when the application is
already up and running. I go to a couple of menus in the app - each time
the menu appears fine, but then when I click outside the menu it doesn't
disappear (because what was behind it is now redrawn).
If there is any other type of debug output you think will help, let me know and
I will try and provide it.

I updated wine today, and now starts "Steam" with that weird message
"ERROR: Failed to get local IP address of SocketToServer"
I have already tried a new ~/.wine, nothing changed.
I am sure that it works with the cvs version 1-3days ago
so I think it must have something todo with
wine/dlls/winsock
it was updated recently

Just tried to install the game Freelancer by Digital Anvil/ Microsoft Games,
using Wine CVS 20051116. It starts up fine, but the music 'hangs'. It always
loops the first second. Speech and soundeffects work perfectly. This seems to
be related to Wine's MP3 codec, as it outputs "To less out space" to the
console thousands of times, which (the typo helps ;-) ) seems to be a MPEGLIB
error message. AFAIK, Wine's MP3 codec was based on MPEGLIB.

Summary: win.c problem with gcc 4.0.1 / Dreamweaver MX 6.1
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-user
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine(a)eternaldusk.com
When the latest CVS (20051116) is compiled with gcc 3.4.3, Dreamweaver works
fine. When WINE is compiled with gcc 4.0.1, Dreamweaver hangs on the splash
screen. The main app window loads in the background, and can be minimized, but
none of the menu options respond.
DLL replacement and linking with mixed version has determined that the offending
object is dlls/user/win.o. The entire project can be compiled with gcc 4.0.1
with the exception of using a gcc 3.4.3 version of win.o, and Dreamweaver works
fine.
Disabling all tuning and optimizations for the entire project has no effect on
the symptoms.
It is unclear to me at this point if this is a gcc 4.0.1 compiler bug, or if
it's generating "more correct" code and has made a logic error with win.c more
evident.
Thanks for your time.

Using win.ini is the old 16-Bit way, but we do not have the equivalent

Is there a newer Version of your Application?

if you will look at AJ wiki page [2], you'll notice such items on a todo list:
* Switch windows to managed mode dynamically.
* Fix internal messages for 16-bit apps.
* Remove remaining dll separation hacks in user32.spec.
* Make Clippy work right.
* Support window stations and multiple X11 displays.
* Fix inter-process desktop mode.
* Delay connecting to the X server until needed.
* Multi-monitor support.
* Fix LockWindowUpdate.
* Proper HWND_MESSAGE support.
* Restore journalling hooks functionality.
* Use handles for A/W winprocs instead of thunks.
* Investigate need for DC thread locking.
I am afraid it hasn't been done yet. :-P

Furthermore, I think this is renamed version of GiveIO.sys driver [3]. Its

Maybe it helps to answer question more reliably.
BTW, Vitaliy, how far is NtOsKrnl.exe from being incorporated in the official

The patch applies, and there are certainly more files
now after running mdac2.7sp1's installer, so it
seems like a significant improvement.
I don't know if the set of files is complete;
it's not the same as the set you get if you
actually unpack all the cabs in RegisteredPackages/*.cab.
I guess somebody's going to have to actually
run an app that requires MDAC to see if the
missing files are important or not.
I don't have time to do that tonight, not sure when I'd be able to.

No, this is won't fix. You can't access I/O ports on anything past win98.
I'm not sure what those drivers do on winNT. If they just enable application raw
access to ports it might work (same way as we do it for win9x mode. But if it
some real driver, I don't think so.

I tried using native dlls from an windows XP installation to implement the
missing SSL stuff. I overrode schannel.dll, secur32.dll, crypt32.dll, and
msasn1.dll. Then it said there were missing functions in advapi32.dll so I
tried the native dll for that too and I got a page fault...
Also, strangely there is a directory in my google-talk directory called
"googletalk-1.0.0.76" and it contains the file "googletalk-setup-upgrade.exe".
I figured, what the heck, and ran it, it works like the regular googletalk.exe
except that my wine actually produces debugging output... I have no idea what is
going on but there you have it. The page fault gives me this:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x7ffe02d0 at address 0x77dd9a57
(thread 000b), starting debugger...
WineDbg starting on pid 0xa
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x7ffe02d0 in 32-bit code
(0x77dd9a57).
In 32 bit mode.

Well, I can confirm that this _definately_ applies to only Xorg 6.8.2 and
higher, as I went ahead and rolled my X install back to Slack 10.1 releaseŽs
Xorg 6.8.1, and WinRAR starts and runs just fine.. Problem is that, until Xorg
fixes the pre-existing pixmap bug properly, the hacky patch will probably just
stay in there, so to anyone that reads this, I suggest either rolling your X
install back to 6.8.1 or at most, to the 6.8.2 release, pre-pixmap overflow fix.
Hope that helps. If anyone wants to post some of whatŽs being said/done about
this on either the wine-devel or xorg devel lists to this bug, feel free..

This demo works very nice as well with the modifications described in bug 3528.
However , i still have to start the demo with native msvcrt otherwise it
crashes. The second time i start it i don't need to use native msvcrt.

I'm having similar problem with an ext3 partition mounted with default nls utf8.
Running an installer under wine yields two different problems:
- sometimes the installer says "the folder name cannot include any of the
following characters: /:*?"<>|,", which are not in the name.
If this warning is not displayed (don't know why sometimes it's shown and
sometimes not), it fails with "File access denied".
wine seems to fail accesing the requested directory, or the application fails to
understand utf8 codification.
Is there some solution to this?

have it taking two, but I'll check what's on the stack.

Hi, i once had a similar problem in half life 2 , see
http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=1051&action=view
Somehow it was a mismatch between newer wine and old ~/.wine directory if i
remember correctly. Did you try a completely new install of this game in a fresh
~.wine?

little status update:
msvcrt bug: fixed in CVS.
choose wrong language files: no idea what goes wrong there
workaround: remove 1_00c_Sounds_demo_* and 1_00c_Texts_demo_* files
doesnt find builtin opengl32.dll:
it first tries to find the dll via SearchPath(), before trying to load it.
And SearchPath() didn't report builtin dlls.
workaround: place any file(named opengl32.dll) in your system folder
eg.: "touch ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/opengl32.dll" will do it
proper solution: yet to find, probably a question for wine-devel
claims that there is no hardware acceleration:
SeriousSam fails if PFD_GENERIC_ACCELERATED flag is set for the chosen pixel
format. But wine *always* sets this flag and I'm not sure if we simply can drop
this flag in general.
for now, if somebody wants to test the game, just change the following line in
dlls/x11drv/opengl.c(in X11DRV_DescribePixelFormat):
----
ppfd->dwFlags = PFD_DRAW_TO_WINDOW | PFD_SUPPORT_OPENGL | PFD_GENERIC_ACCELERATED;
----
to:
--
ppfd->dwFlags = PFD_DRAW_TO_WINDOW | PFD_SUPPORT_OPENGL
---
and the game will run just fine ;)

I have added an explorer.exe. However winefile does not as of yet support
selecting a file when it comes up. Steven has contacted the author of winefile
and we will see what we can do to extend its functionality.
but as of now Locate on Disk at least brings up winefile to point to the correct
directory.

It also crashes each time I open a mail that contains mime attachments.
here is my config :

| Should this bug report stay open since it should work with higher Windows
versions too?
I don't know for sure. Wines NtOSKrnl.exe some day will get officially
implemented, and then we may be able to load this IO.SYS driver.
Some developers who are deep into the architecture may explain better (Vitaly,
Ivan Leo, Alexandre, Uwe, Marcuss or Andreas), I believe, whether the bug tends
to become WONTFIX or not. :)
