Summary: winebuild generates broken PowerPC assembler
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-ports
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Simon.Richter(a)hogyros.de
winebuild generates references to the high bits of labels with the form
(label)@hi. Current gas chokes on that. The low bits are currently accessed
correctly with @l(reg), so I believe this is merely an oversight.

As you can see, no change here.
I did:
Uninstalled everything wine. [ Was version 20050825 (mdk)]
As user, ran cxoffice and uninstalled PlanBee
Installed wine20050930 & wine-debug20050930 also ( again, mdk rpms used )
Ran wincfg and stuck with the defaults.
Tried to install PlanBee [as above] ~ no success
Installed PlanBee from cxoffice successfully.
( Note: The error dialogue popped up at the beginning again but upon
selecting " OK " to close it, the installation continued without a hitch. )

Raising priority and make it a Wine 1.0 target.

I'm not in linux right now, but basically.. this has only shown up in Ragnarok
Online client. Patcher loads up fine and runs fine, the second the main gaming
window opens (direct3d) all the different windows and objects in the game
flicker to black every second frame. (Each window, each character, all the parts
of the ground.) The error is something along the lines of "Wrong surface type
for locking."
When I boot back to linux I'll update this with the actual terminal output.

Hmm no luck, no backtrace, no register info and "winedbg terminated" without a
chance to ask for them.
You can try to start the program with winedbg, "cont" from the initial
breakpoint and "pass" all first chance exceptions until you hopefully hit this
unhandled exception. Then report the backtrace with the "bt" command.

I mean if setting 'WINEDEBUG=+relay' slows down execution speed down to 10%,
then adding '>/dev/null' speeds up things back to 50%. And it still helps to
win a race. For my app. Hence my message. :)

BTW, you can speed up things even more if you redirect all wine (relay) output
to the /dev/null:
$ wine ... >/dev/null 2>&1
This helps me a lot.

Runs fine here too. Some intermediate case between Mandelbug and Heisenbug. :-]
Could every1 crashing make a relay log (+relay) and post its tail (lets say 1000
lines). I thought it would make locating bug easier.

> This way i could actually start playing without the "refresh rate" error. Seems
> as if you somehow you have to slow down the game a bit to avoid the error.
Hehe, I experience very similar effect on one old 16-bit application. AFAIR,
this effect is called a "race conditions" or "racing". When application shows
message box about a refresh rate error, you could launch winedbg, select a
process (info proc), attach to it (attach 0xB , for example) and to get
backtraces of all its threads (bt all). That may bring more information to you.
But if your app hangs and debugger isn't able to attach to it (this is the case
for me) then the only way to find a cause of this is to get two different logs,
'+all' versus '+relay,+all' and to try diffing them (diff -u), I think. This
would require gigabytes of free diskspace, I am afraid.

Summary: FrontDesign.exe toolbar buttons get stuck
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-user
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

FrontDesign is a small 2D CAD program developed by a CNC milling company. It
lets you design a "front panels" for prototype appliances etc out of aluminium
or plastic, the company will then CNC mill holes, engraved text etcetera on the
design and deliver it to your door.
Anyway, I have been using it under WINE (and the company, www.schaeffer-ag.de)
and it works nicely (apart from the bug below) - the manufacturer website even
mentions they dont have a native Linux version but the windows binary "works
with Wine". Yay.
It has a small glitch on the toolbar though under Wine: it is impossible to
switch away from the "drawing tools" button group to the selection tool.
There is a patch for this which apparently fixes the problem:

Summary: Z-order incorrect in Pro Motion
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://cosmigo.com/promotion/pmft51.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: cathryn(a)junglevision.com
In Pro Motion the control panel windows are hidden behind the main display.
With wine they show up when the program is first started, that is the drawing
tools and other windows, but as soon as any drawing occurs or the window is
updated, they disapear.
It's actually possible to drag around the main window quickly, and then see the
hidden tool bars behind it, trying to catch up with the main window.
Promotion is a 2d drawing program meant for doing animated 8-bit art pixel-by-
pixel. Gimp doesn't work well for this. I've been updating from cvs
regularly and this issue has been stable last month or so.
The demo version is at
http://cosmigo.com/promotion/pmft51.exe
It acts just like the commercial version in wine.

the game comes up fine (although there's an annoying window on top but that's
another problem) If you have time enuogh you might try a regression test. This

Hi, with current cvs the Mozilla Active X control is downloaded automatically,
(though you have to copy msvcp60.dll first in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32).
After that the program comes up (complaining first about it can't access a
database) but that's another bug. Don't know if there are any other bugs using
it but it defenitely doesn't crash at startup. Reopen bug please if you still
have a crash.

In any case, I don't care too much about the game - I've already beaten it, and
it was pretty awful. It should still install and run on wine if I choose to run

Are you certain that everything was detected correctly? Does this happen with
the earlier wine versions? I have installed warcraft III lots of times, on
different distros, and this has never happened to me. If nothing else helps I
would recommend that you remove (or rename) your ~/.wine directory and try
running winecfg again. If the problem is still there after you have tried this
please report back here.

Summary: freeze when running Exile 2

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P4
Component: wine-binary

ReportedBy: bobbens(a)gmail.com
I've been playing some of my childhood games lately, mainly Exile 2. The thing
is that recently i've done an apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade on my
debian SID machine and i've noticed that the game sometimes hangs while playing,
this blocks ctrl + alt + backspace and completely hangs the system, leaving me
no other option then to reboot. This bug is repeatable altough there isn't any
specific thing (from what i can tell) that activates it. Just randomly,
sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after an hour it'll completely hang
forcing me to reboot my system. I'd like to see this fixed as possible, i'm
willing to help, if not possible due to lack of manpower or anything i'll just
keep at it (saving like a freak) and keep updating hoping some new version will
fix it. If you need anything from me i'll be glad to attempt to provide
information as this might allow room for improvements and it might also affect
other applications.

Ok, bug is fixed in current cvs. that leaves the "no text" error (bug 3292)
BTW,i think there's no need to check against '.' AND '?' because as far as i
understand it the trailing '.' is removed by call
name= __unDName(0, mangled + 1, 0,malloc,free, 0x2800);
so the check was against symbols like ".?something". So maybe just a check against
'.' would be useful. However maybe i'm far off as this msvcrt-code is quite
abacadabra to me :)

Ok, bug is fixed in current cvs. that leaves the "no text" error (bug 3292)
BTW,i think there's no need to check against '.' AND '?' because as far as i
understand it the trailing '.' is removed by call
name= __unDName(0, mangled + 1, 0,malloc,free, 0x2800);
so the check was against symbols like ".?something". So maybe just a check against
'.' would be useful. However maybe i'm far off as this msvcrt-code is quite
abacadabra to me :)

Amusingly, once you install CW, unless you do something like this:
mv windows/fonts/USPSBar.ttf USPSBar.ttf.bad
other apps (e.g. Picasa) have horribly corrupted dialog boxes.
So Wine appears to be doing a bad choice of picking
the font to use, and USPSBar.ttf is one font that
tickles that. But moving that one file away doesn't rescue CW.
Moving all of them does.
Ocrf.ttf, if left in, will mistakenly be used, but that's at
least somewhat legible.
Nelspec.ttf, if left in, will mistakenly be used, and that's illegible.
And so on. Not sure which of the fonts is picked if they're all
there, but whatever, the font matching algorithm is clearly knackered.
Or maybe it's ok, but the fact that Wine does't come with
the same set of fonts as Windows causes havoc.
I have updated http://kegel.com/wine/cw.sh.txt to move all the fonts
to c:\windows\badfonts so I can get some testing done,
so if you use that script to install Church Windows and want
to see the problem, move 'em back.

I've created an enhancement request (bug 3627)
for winecfg to make it easier for users to set
the IE registry key. And that's it for this bug.
I'm marking it 'later' to reflect the fact
that it's not really a bug at the moment that Wine doesn't
come with MFC and the VB runtime.
Thanks, all!

i dont know how the ebuild system of gentoo works,
i think, i can give you a hint.
you need to modify the src_unpack function in your e-build script to change
directory to the wine cvs directory.
and also you might not need the above unpack and epatch commands in that function

Many apps refuse to install if IE isn't at
least a certain version, even if they don't
need IE at all. They're just using it as
a quick and dirty way to check whether certain prerequisites
exist without specifying the prerequisites.
Thus recipes for installing applications often
say things like "Install MFC40, MFC42, and the VB Runtime,
and then set this cryptic registry key to fool the
app into thinking IE6 SP2 is installed"
Let's make that last step easier, and make it
a pulldown or checkbox in winecfg.

WINEDEBUG=+relay,+snoop,+seh output, cut to 100 lines around 'seh:'
I had to gzip this as, uncompressed, the file is 17MB in size. I hope this

For the output without any WINEDEBUG statement, I get numerous errors about

the message in the first comment.

Summary: range checking in numeric edit box behaves badly
Product: Wine
Version: 20050830
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rainer.zi(a)web.de
I found the bug with Macromedia Fireworks 2.0.2 (very old version!)
It might be reproducible in any numeric edit box with range checking and a lower
limit higher than 1.
Steps to reproduce bug:
- Open Fireworks
- create a new image
- click on the Text tool, then click anwhere on the image. The text dialog opens.
- enter some text and highlight it (important!)
- double click into the text size box (which should show something like "12") to
highlight the number
- enter "1"
- The Problem: The text size box now shows "4", its minimum value, rather than "1".
This way you cannot simply enter a number like "14". Workaround possible, e.g.
highlight the "2", enter "4".
IMHO the expected behaviour would be to allow the "1" and apply the range
checking in another place, ie. when the user leaves the box or closes the dialog.
In Fireworks, the problem does NOT occur when the text below in the dialog is
not highlited!

I can play the tutorials without problem, but when starting a champaign, a
dialog box pops up and says the error in subject. This is an i18n RT3 message
(and can be googled). RT3 then stops.
Right before showing the messagebox there is ~40

If I place a breakpoint in the last vertex Release, and return 0 instead of 1,
RT3 continues correctly. If I change the implementation to allways return 0, rt3
also continues. So it seems RT3 checks the return release values.
Grepping for the 0x7fe971a0 pointer shows the list below (and a lot of
IDirect3DVertexBuffer8Impl_Unlock and Lock I have left out). I have no idea
where/how to fixing this.

IMHO "actual crash output" is output you get with WINEDEBUG unset. And to get
XX lines _B_efore seh lines (plus YY lines _A_fter it), while seeing all the
output, you may find usefull these commands:
$ wine ... 2>&1 | tee output.log # directs output both to file and terminal
$ grep -BXX -AYY ':seh:' output.log # matches seh lines
If you would like to _m_atch only the first time, add grep option "-m1". HTH.

As far as error output... that's it. The program doesn't so much crash as hang.
It stops refreshing the window when it gets overwritten and everything.

WINEDEBUG=+seh output
This is the output running with WINEDEBUG=+seh set. If I run it with
WINEDEBUG=+seg,+relay,+snoop, the log ends up being about 1.2GB in size, with
the first appearance of seh: about 2/3rds of the way through. I figured a 400MB
log file probably wasnt what you were looking for... Is there some other way I
should do it?

Something is failing in sound driver. Not sure what that is. But I'm not sure
why this programm needs sound anyway. So if you disable sound completelly it
works fine! Or make sure that you have set audio "Hardware Acceleration" to
"Emulation". That also works. Only due to some bugs in winecg you need to select
other driver, different HW Acceleration. Apply changes. Then select what you have.

ChurchWindows 2005 Trial version
installs ok (see bug 3453)
but puts up a cryptic and huge dialog box
when you start it, and exits if you click
what looks like the OK button.
You can install the demo by running the shell script
http://kegel.com/wine/cw.sh.txt
or by satisfying the prerequisites manually
(IE6 registry key, mfc40.dll, mfc42.dll, vb6 runtime).

OK, I nailed it! Turns out that CW will install if:
* you have the registry key in comment #1
* you have mfc40.dll
* you have mfc42.dll
* you have the VB6 runtime
A script to automatically download and install CW and its prerequisites
is at http://kegel.com/wine/cw.sh.txt
Now on to file a bug against CW proper!
Hopefully Wine will come with that IE registry key preloaded soon,
and we can close this bug.

Michael, I dealt with the issue of MapSource's strange CD-ROMs and installer in
the following way (not with Wine, actually) when my original CD-ROM cracked in
half(!) and I didn't want to take chances with the expensive replacement...
Load the contents of both CDs into one directory. Map this directory as a
virtual drive to Windows (or Wine). Install from that "drive." There will be
no prompt for disks.

Alright, so I was wrong. I wasn't running v11.5 like I thought, but rather v11.
Upgrading helped a bit-- now the main window shows up (with mad artifacting) and
then freezes, complaining about something called GSEmul.dll. I'm going to try to
find out what this is and where it should be on an actual windows install, so
for now this bug should probably be closed... unless anyone really cares about
supporting old versions of VectorWorks.

In my original bug reported, I said that I had not tried installing quicktax
from the CD - I had simply copied the files from the windows dir where it was
originally installed. Today I did try installing it from the CD into a
freshly-created .wine setup (with IE6 installed as described in the appdb).
The install went just fine (which surprised me!) but after that, running
quicktax resulted in the same behaviour as in my previous posting here - i.e.
the main panel was displayed but then the application froze. So - conclusion
- installing from CD made no difference.
Hoping someone can advise how to debug this as it now looks like a definite
maybe ...
And just for the record, this was what was written to stderr:

Well,
here are my thoughts. Gentoo 64 team made it possible to install wine through an
ebuild without any trouble. On the contrary, when installing manually winecvs I
go accross several issues, most likely related to 32 and 64 bit libs.
So, my ideas are as follows:
1) As gentoo current ebuild works, and I can handle patches, can I please be
addressed to the proper patch web site, so that I can download one by one all
patches implemented in order to make wine install the closest to winecvs?
2) I wish to post the euild which works so that perhaps you could spot what is
making gentoo ebuild work and manual install not.
This is to cut the time as I wish to install but mostly run win apps as need them
I thank you for the time you will spend in reading the ebuild as this would help
many people out there needing wine on amd64.
Also, here is a direct link to a place where a german person wrote an evuild for
winecvs bhttp://de.gentoo-wiki.com/Wine_CVS ut:
a. it does not mention amd64 so I would doubt it would work
b. I do not quite have the experience to understand it to see if it is safe,
properly done.
thank you for your important and appreciated work/help.

Summary: simple installer for mfc42 fails in CreateFileA()
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.free-av.com/antivirclassic/mfc42down.html
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
I tried to install mfc42.dll by downloading sysupe.exe from
http://www.free-av.com/antivirclassic/mfc42down.html
and running it, but it exited without doing anything.
The installer is a winzip self-extracting archive.
If you unzip it and run the setup utility,
it shows a nice gui, but says the needed files
already exist. However, running with +relay,+file shows
that the CreateFile call failed for some reason:

I just ran into this.
I needed mfc40.dll to install something, so I
searched for it on Microsoft's site. They
provide it as a download to fix a Year 2000 problem:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=cf3005d4-7009-4d2d…
Running it in a dos window fails with a batch file error
because start isn't found.
Pressing ^C quickly keeps the updater from wiping its
files, so you can get mfc40.dll anyway, and see
the batch file it was trying to run. And yes, it uses 'start'.

I tried setting up an entirely new .wine directory starting from empty and then
installed IE6 afresh following instructions in the
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=469
that you referenced. I then retried the quicktax 2002 exe as before and was
much encouraged that, this time, there was no crash and it actually displayed
the main quicktax panel. Wow!
But then it froze. mouse clicks on buttons did nothing, and after moving to
another window, on trying to return to quicktax, it did not re-display.
Completely gone. However the exe was still running according to ps abnd no
crash messages in the wine.log.
Any suggestions how to pursue/debug this from here?
BTW I see that, with this wine 050930 and starting with fresh .wine, there is no
longer a .wine/config. I see that is mentioned elsewhere. The new winecfg
does not cover all the things I used to be able to put in config. In
particular the windows PATH - How do I specify that? Also the new wine no
longer accepts the --debugmsg option - how do I get that debugging now?

When I try to open files in directories with russian names, I recieve the
message "Path not exists" in Notepad from wine, stupid message in Office.
Next. Sometimes some applications had crashed, when I was "browsing" directories
(WinAMP, Notepad) with english (wuthout any russian symbols in full path) names.
When I had retried enter in this directories I recieved or crash or all was
good. There is problem with file browsing on my system.
Wine didn't write anything, when I try work with russian directories, I recieve
messages only from Win-applications. Wine called winedbg and found errors, only
when win-applications crashed on some directory.
For example:
[wieker@yarilo wieker]$ cd acm/саратов/
[wieker@yarilo саратов]$ touch file1.txt
[wieker@yarilo саратов]$ cd ~
[wieker@yarilo wieker]$ wine notepad
When I open file file1.txt notepad write "Path not exist" and continue work
without crash.

Thanks for the reply and it is a handy reminder.
My main problem is simply that when I uninstall wine, BricsCAD will be
removed/uninstalled also.
I have no problem with 're-doing' everything with wine, my problem is
that I will lose all my user preferences for BricsCAD should I go this
way. ( BricsCAD is installed in /opt/bricscad but is somehow tied to the
wine installation.)
Note: BricsCAD would not install if I first did any form of
configuration with a clean install of wine ~ I needed to install wine,
install BricsCAD4Linux, install CrossOver, then re-install
BricsCAD4Linux to get both CrossOver and BricsCAD running correctly. As
by this installation on my system you can see that I at no time touched
anything to do with configuring wine.
At this point I followed the rule: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Then I used CrossOver to install PlanBee ~ that found some bug that I
have chosen to assist with.
So to recap: the wine config ain't the problem ~ it's retaining the
preferences with installed programs using wine that's the problem.
I guess I was hoping that a simple rpm -Uvh would be enough but I also
want to give the bug guys a correct report for what happens with the
latest wine package and PlanBee.
Still, the 'heads up' with winecfg is a great reminder and greatly
appreciated.

I have the same problem with wine 20050930, xorg and debian unstable, HP
Omnibook XE3. xev results are ok, the debug results are similar to the log
attached to comment 3.
I'm using Hungarian qwertz keyboard layout, and wine does not detect it properly
(detects Estonian). As a result, ecute and acute characters are missing.
The interesting thing is that Hungarian qwerty layout works (setxkbmap
hu_qwerty) properly.

Sure enough! I reproduced it simply by
* wine/programs/notepad/notepad
* File / Save As
* Navigate to Desktop
* Select root directory
Bam!
=>1 0x7b362ca3 DPA_GetPtr+0x27(hdpa=0x4001, nIndex=0x0)
[/home/dank/wine/dlls/comctl32/dpa.c:479] in comctl32 (0x7b90e150)
if (!hdpa)
return NULL;
if (!hdpa->ptrs) { <--- bam!
So hdpa seems to be a wild pointer.
I'm uploading a log with WINEDEBUG=+dpa
For some reason I get a more interesting stack traceback than you did.
Perhaps it would help to run this under Valgrind.

unfortunately no error messages. the msi/wise installer did not display any
selection components and skipped the installation part completely, stating that
the installation ended prematurely.

You are using the 64 bit libs for x11 also.
Try to find the directory where the 32 bit x11 libraries are present do the same
steps as you did for freetype.
We donot yet support 64-bit libs yet.

Still occurs with latest cvs, even though bug 3241 is supposedly related and fixed.

I'm lowering the severity, on the theory that we don't
really support gentoo 64 bits yet. You might want to
check with the gentoo folks.
