Ok thats fine, just please only post errors/crashes that are for sure
unrealted.. In other words, dont post multiple dsound errors for the same
program, as they are most likely related. Once one is fixed, or some work on
finding the bug has been submitted, then go ahead and post others..

Fernando, can you use the documentation at
http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/wine-devel/x1316 to try and find the patch that
caused this error? Once you have found it, please post a link to the email from
the wine-cvs archive for that patch.
Thanks!

PGP 8.0.3 for Windows ME consists of four separate executable files (installed
under Program Files) and a VXD (pgpsdk.vxd) that goes in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.
When I try to run PGPkeys.exe the program quits after displaying a message-box
saying that "PGP has not been set up correctly".
If I try to run PGPtray.exe (which is actually just a system-tray icon that
starts up the other components, as far as I know), a small window flashes
briefly onto the screen and I get the following output:

files that need encryption):

Summary: Srolling Window Erroneously 'Homes' After Posting
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Andrew.Talbot(a)talbotville.com
Blitzin2 has a bottom-fed, scrolling chat window in which new postings should
cause the window to scroll upwards. However, under Wine, after each
[successful] posting, the window is subsequently automatically being 'homed',
by which I mean it is then made to scroll back up to the top of the data.
Whereas, the vertical scroll-bar thumb should remain at the bottom of its
range, with the latest posting being visible at the bottom of the screen.

Hi, thanks for all of the bug reports, but now I think we are all thoroughly
confused.. lol
First off, In the summary, you need to provide a description of the problem,
usually a quick note and the error message in the console if any, "dsound crash
in AVP Gold (err:DSOUND:whatever)" would work for each of the dsound crashes,
but make sure you put the last error you got before the unhandled exception.
Secondly, please, PLEASE, dont copy/paste console output into a bug, paste it
into a file, and attach that to the bug with the "Create a New Attachment" link
just above the additional comments field.
Thirdly, and most importantly, dont break up the debug output like you did here,
that makes it _impossible_ to figure out what went wrong.
Lastly, if you are getting multiple crashes with the same error type (like
DSOUND), only report the one that occurs first in the game, as all of the others
are probably realted to it. Once that one is fixed and you can get past that
part, if another one pops up, file a new bug.
Also, if you get a situation where it used to work, but in this new release it
doesn't (or it used to be right, but in this new release it is wrong), file a
bug and put regression in the keywords. I pay the most attention to those, as
they are the easiest to diagnose (although not always the easiest to resolve)..
Oh and one more thing.. Sorry, if something is supposed to work within the
program/game, but it doesnt (saving the options in this case), file a bug and we
have specific steps to try to get some correct debug output for situations like
that..
SO... with all of that being said, I will resolve and close this bug, and you
can file a new one for the not saving the options issue.. I will also mark all
but the first reported dsound bug as resolved as a reminder, so that we can
examine them after we get the first one fixed.

Yes, I've discovered a new (or maybe not as new, 'cos it's another Dsound crash,
maybe related to any previous reported by me) game crash. In certain rare
situations, game freezes completely and sounds collapses (it repeats itself
forever). There's no automatic game shutdown & return to X (I've to xKill it),
and even doing it sound continues collapsed for a few seconds until it silences.
The console output I obtain is pasted here:
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7d49acf0 "DSOUNDBUFFER_lock" wait
timed out in thread 001c, blocked by 0011, retrying (60 sec)

Unhandled exception: wait failed on critical section 0x7d49acf0

Hope those bug reports are helping you :). Any comments would be appreciated.
Please see bug #2987 for complete info about what system & wine version I'm
using. And bug #2996 to see another crash this game is causing :)

Thanks for the report. You seem to know quite a bit, is there any way you could
try to track down the code in wine that causes this? We are trying to go for
conformance, and if MSDN says to do it one way and we do it another, then fixing
it in wine, as opposed to having a workaround for it in allergo, is what we
should do.. If you need some help tracking it down, I will be glad to offer
whatever help I can..

Yes, it doesn't have 640x480 but even this way, I can switch to many lower
resolutions. I use as default in my kde res 1280x1024x85Hz. Kde set this at
startup.
Using kde config (without restarting X), I can switch to 640x480 at
(85 75 73 60)Hz. Same apps that report this behavior on wine works in cedega.
I'll attach what kde let me choose as my resolution. Switching to all of them
worked without restarting X.

You are sure you are using CVS Wine ?
trace:ddraw:User_DirectDraw_SetDisplayMode (0x55913808)->(640x480x0,0 Hz,00000000)
------^
This seems similar to the error due to the '0 Hz' problem that was fixed one or
two weeks ago.
But seeing the start of the log, this is due to the fact that you do not have
any 640x480 modes defined for your X server:
trace:ddraw:User_DirectDraw_EnumDisplayModes
(0x55913808)->(0x00000000,(nil),0x55c2f320,0x5618c4f0)
trace:ddraw:User_DirectDraw_EnumDisplayModes - mode: 1280x1024
trace:ddraw:User_DirectDraw_EnumDisplayModes - 32 bpp, R=00ff0000 G=0000ff00
B=000000ff
So despite the fact that you only advertise 1280x1024 to the game, it still
requests 640x480 => it crashes when Wine tells it that we do not support 640x480.
Two possibilities: add the mode to your X server resolution list or run in
Desktop mode :-)

I'm me again :D, reporting the last bug I've seen (by now) in the game (I
firstly ignored it, because I can deactivate the feature that causes the bug,
but now I've located exactly where the bug is). The game uses Bink video and
Smack video technologies to play in-game videos. Smack video/sound support (used
on in-game videos) and Bink music (used in the main menu music theme) works like
a charm, but Bink video (used in the animated main menu background) makes the
game freeze (and sound collapse) for 10-15 seconds every time the background
animation finishes and replays it. In Windows 98 it never happened (well, at
least in the time when I used to play the game. Currently I've not installed
W98), but under Windows XP SP2 (with DX 9.0C) it happens, too...

I've got an old digital camera, an Olympus D-300L, that communicates with the
computer via a serial cable. It uses a Win95 application, C-W95.exe, to make
the connection. I've used this application successfully under Win98SE and
Win2K, but I can't make it work under Wine. The program starts fine, but
insists it can not find the camera.
I posted this problem previously in the Usenet group
comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine, where Rein Klazes was kind enough to help me
troubleshoot. He determined that WriteFile() was failing with error code 0x3e5,
ERROR_IO_PENDING. The specific debug log entries he identified as relevant are:

Note that this is bug report may be the same issue as reported in bug #469,
which was just changed to status: resolved due to inactivity. Speeddymon asked
that a new bug report be opened on this issue, so I am doing so.
The original Usenet thread I started when I originally ran across this bug can
be viewed at
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine/browse_t…
if anyone needs or wants to examine it. Other Usenet threads that appear to
deal with the same bug (and some of which also propose actual code fixes) are:

Comments about the game
------------------------
The game runs OK, graphics running perfectly, only with some missed sounds and
some "sound repetitions" sometimes. Another major bugs I've seen in the game
are: Mouse cursor doesn't dissapears when the game starts and while it's running
(it starts and runs in fullscreen mode, with the mouse cursor always in the
middle of the screen, so it's a bit annoying to see it all the time :) ), and
screen resolution doesn't save in "Configure audio & video" game option (I've to
reconfigure it every time I enter the game).
System
-------
AMD Athlon XP 2400
Geforce 4 Ti 128 mb (Nvidia drivers 1.0-7174)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 (ALSA 1.0.9 RC1)
512 RAM
Mandriva 2005 LE (and I've installed Wine via RPM)
Misc.
........
Sorry if my bug report format is not correct. It's my first bug report under
Bugzilla :) Any comments will be appreciated.

Oh, I see that you have already filed the bug. This is due to copy protection
as mentioned in bug 2977. I have attached it to ou games metabug, so that it
can eventually be fixed. For now, you will need a no-cd patch, which can be
obtained from megagames.com or gamecopyworld.com

how odd. updating the kernel fixes the problem? Maybe I should forward that to
the devlopers just to see what they say? Either way, if the game now works,
this can be resolved. I would say to monitor wine-devel for the kernel update
fixes a bug? topic, to see if we should report that as a bug.. As far as the
game CD not being recognized, the game crashed before it would get to that part
before your update, and now that it gets there, the copy protection of the game
kicks in and therefore won't allow the game to run, as wine does not have much
copy protection support at the moment. You can open a new bug for that, and put
bug 1434 in the "Bug x blocks" field, and it will eventually be fixed, but for
now you will be stuck having to use a no-cd patch. Check either
gamecopyworld.com or megagames.com for that...

Er...yeah. I'm new to CVS and I just started using linux 3 weeks ago or so. I
uninstalled the wrong rpm...
Uninstalling the RPM, and then using the wineinstall script in the tools
directory helped a lot. I suppose I was stupid and just did ./configure && make
depend && make && make install ._.

chance that I'm doing it wrong though. I uninstalled the RPM, and installed the

The bug does not appear anymore at the moment. I updated the kernel with yum,
and now I get no errors when running the game. I get that same destroy child
objects line, but now the game gives a messagebox, saying it isn't detecting the
Cd in the drive. I'm not sure if updating the kernel fixed this error, or if
something else happened when I did yum update that caused wine to not be able to
find my CD. I've tried uinstalling and reinstalling the game to no avail.

Well, I can't be much more specific. I run the homeworld 2 game exe, and it
comes around asking for the CD. The CD is in my only CD drive, and it can't find
it. But I can install from CD.

attached is everything from application start till after the window disappeared
(and then I ended up Cntl-C the app to stop the log from growing forever).
I installed the 20041019 MDK rpm from winehq.com and it has been running for the
last 15 minutes with no such window dropouts. It appears to be running pretty
rock solid.
With 20050419 I can predictably get the window to vanish if I change virtual
desktops away from where wine is running, then start *any* other x application
(like an xterm).

Danger - Minor graphical glitches of child windows.
The problem:
We go into a routine which is supposed to send a WM_PAINT (ie draw your
display) call to the window and all its child windows who have areas flagged
as needing repainting. We send the WM_PAINT routine direct to the app who
returns, but the window is not repainted.
The temp fix gives up at this point
What should happen is we give up for this window and go onto the next child
window. However, we get the 'next' window by unpainted region, and since this
window has an unpainted region the 'next' window is actually ourselves...
Follow the UT2003 emails on wine-devel for more and for progress as its made
The reason the patch isnt 'right' is it gives

I have applied the "possible fix" to a couple of Wine installs (one on Fedora
Core 3 and another on Mandriva 2005 LE) and it does solve the obvious hang -
I've been working on databases, email and calendaring for a couple of hours now
without issue.
How much "danger" is involved with running on this setup (20050419 + "possible
fix")? If it's just minor instability thats okay. If it's the "Eat the system"
variety I'll rollback to 20040813.

nah.. that shouldnt have anything to do with it..
Have you tested for this on previous releases of wine?
If not, please revert to the oct 2004 release and see if it shows the same
problem.. if it does then we know for sure that it is _not_ win rewrite-related,
if it does not, then we know it is..

Downloaded this app and installed it under wine. Trying to start it I get the
error "fixme:wininet:NETCON_recv SSL_read does not support the following flag:
00000100".
In the mailinng lists I found that installing mozilla would help for SSL to
work. So I did install mozilla-win32-1.7.8-installer.exe. I logged in to
pokerroom.com and for that purpose SSL works.
What should I try next? What information should I provide?

More than likely this is due to the windowing code rewrite, you can try
WINEDEBUG=+win,+window wine program.exe but I wouldnt get too high of hopes for
having this fixed soon, as the window rewrite is going to be a long process, as

ok, nothing there.. but at least it gets rid of all of the warnings and the
check for the winecfg.. Try running WINEDEBUG=+relay wine HW2.exe
and output it to a log (warning: this will be a HUGE file)..
After it crashes, use grep to find the line number of the line that says
unhandled exception, starting debugger (searching for just unhandled exception
should do). Then use tail to trim all but 500 lines before and after that line,
and attach the log here.. if you can get a winedbg backtrace, it would be
helpful too, but not necessary..

Summary: wine window disappears on certain window managers

Linux Mandrake 10.1
Wine built from Mandrake Cooker RPM on Mandrake 10.1
AfterStep 2.1.0 window manager
Managed = Y
Application Running Under Wine: Lotus Notes 6.5.2
After upgrading from wine 200402xx to 20050419 I found that when switching
virtual desktops the wine x11 window would disappear and appear to be lost by
AfterStep (it drops out of the window list). Messages continue to appear in
the debug log that shows the wine app to still be running (a scheduled agent is
kicking off every 10 minutes which causes wine messages).
This same thing happens with the FVWM2 window manager as well.
When using KDE3.2 on the same machine changing virtual desktops doesn't make the
window disappear, though changing with key shortcuts has the very odd behavior
of the wine window stealing focus and changing the virtual desktop back to the
one wine is on.
Again, with Wine 200402 everything worked as expected.
Any hints on possible work arounds or debug flags I can turn on to help narrow
this would be appreciated.

Transforming into metabug:
Many apps and games alike either:
1) dont send the keypresses to the right window
2) dont send the keypresses properly
3) dont send the keypresses to _any_ window
or
4) dont send the keypresses at all
This is a pretty bad bug that should be fixed, so I am making it into a metabug.
Any bugs that have to do with output of the characters on screen from a
keypress should block this bug.. If this bug ever gets fixed, all other bugs
attached to it should also be verified as fixed.

Summary: direct input device only works when created in the
thread which created the window
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: allefant(a)gmail.com
All windows programs created with the Allegro games library
(http://alleg.sf.net) don't have keyboard input under Wine. Here is an .exe (one
of the example programs that come with it) to show the problem:
http://allefant.sf.net/uploads/exkeys.exe. You can also get the complete library
(http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/alleg/all403.zip?download), it includes it
as example. (Or you should be able to find some windows games made with it, like
the ones here: http://www.freelunchdesign.com/games.shtml)
I also tracked down the cause of this in the Allegro source code: If the direct
input device for the keyboard is created in the primary thread, Wine doesn't
deliver keyboard events. If it is created in the same thread which also created
the window, everything works.
The critical place in the source code is this line:
http://srnet.cz/~stepan/allegro/srcs/allegro-4.2.0-beta3/src/win/wkeybd.c.h…
If this line (and only this line) is moved into the same thread which created
the window, keyboard starts working.
I assume, most windows programs create the window in the primary thread, so this
is why Wine could have this bug for so long. But since it works in real windows
(in fact, all version from the most ancient to most recent - everything that
supports at least dx 3.0), and also MSDN doesn't require it to be the primary
thread, it should be fixed.
Tell me if you need any more info. I can also try to provide a short testcase
independent of Allegro, which shows the problem: Simply create a window not in
the primary thread, then intialize the direct input keyboard device from the
primary thread: It will work in real windows, but not in wine.
Oh, and somewhat off-topic for this, but it's the reason I report the bug - do
you think we should add a work-around for this in Allegro, or will future Wine
versions have it fixed?

I'm installing the program Game Maker, which is a program that...does the obvious.
Its installer keeps getting lots of errors. When I start the installer, I get a
box that says "External exception 80000101". You click Ok, and it pops up again.
Repeat 7 times total. The main installer dialog pops up now, and you click next.
The same box pops up 46 more times, then you get a small box, blank, with the
installer's logo in the titlebar. After about a second, the whole installer
closes, and wine exits 'sucessfully', without actually installing anything.

Ok, after looking at your log, I have a couple of questions.. Using
winelauncher, are you even able to get solitaire or notepad from a windows
install running?
If so, then that eliminates several causes. As noted in my last comment, can
you try running HW2 with the wine command and attach what it prints out?
Running programs with wine as opposed to winelauncher is the preferred method
for running things..

I got Homeworld 2 to install, and uninstall, so that much works. But I can't
launch it. I've tried $ winelauncher ~/.wine/Program\
Files\Sierra\Homeworld2\Bin\Release\Homeworld2.exe, and $ winelauncher
C:\\Program\ Files\\Sierra\\Homeworld2\\Bin\\Release\\Homeworld2.exe
I am running Fedora Core 3, with wine installed via the RPM linked on winehq.
I know you'll probably hate me for doing this, but here is the log wine made
when I tried to launch it.
I don't understand a word of it :(
Also, when I installed from RPM, I couldn't find the wineconfig program that
winelauncher looks for.
You can find it at http://stuff.wm161.net/hw2error.txt

Summary: winetty driver wrecks console output
Product: Wine
Version: 20050111
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: kuba(a)mareimbrium.org
- winetty seems to use ncurses for simple line-oriented output where winex11
did the right thing and didn't wrap the output with escape sequences in such
a weird way
- winetty clears the screen upon startup (due to ncurses maybe), so e.g.
running things from nmake.exe makes the screen get wiped everytime a
compile/link step is invoked.
This has a nasty side effect: with winetty driver a simple
wine foo.exe > log
gives you corrupt output with escape sequences that weren't reallyoutput by
foo.exe , whereas with winex11
wine foo.exe > log
gives you the *correct* output capture.
I presume there should be a way in ncurses to preserve current console
contents, for one. It'd be also desirable to only insert escape sequences when
cursor movement is actually called for by the application itself by doing
console buffer writes at locations that aren't at the current cursor position.

When starting wine w/o X server present, an Xlib error is output to the
console. There's no way to disable this. It's important not to have such
errors at least when executing console apps -- this corrupts the output with
stuff that's otherwise not present. Ideally, there should be a registry
setting to disable this error.

Minor glitches: If in a listview only one cell (and not the entire row) is
