Hi all,
Wine 20040716, winetools-211jo
I installed winetools, created a new .wine/, installed DCOM, Internet Explorer 6
, Windows Installer, MDAC 2.8 German (all via winetools). I had to run IE
installation twice (it failed the first time).
I copied msado15.dll and oledb32.dll from my windows directory, but I believe
this would not have beed necessary (regsvr32 failed anyway).
Then I installed EasyTax ZH directly from CD (including MDAC), ran wineboot, and
lo, it works... almost.
Meaning: It runs, I can enter data, save the file, all perfect, but it crashes
upon printing. I have not tried printing anything else from WINE yet though,
have to check the configuration first. I will get back on this one.
In my case this was the Zurich edition (which cannot be downloaded from the web)
, but I think they should be identical.

This exists since the creation of richedit20 up to today's CVS version.
While Krystof's richedit20 produces rather nice results, there are still some
loose ends. One which bothers me most is that tabs are drawn as rectangles which
does not help with the legibilty of the text.
Expected: Instead of the rectangle there is some whitespace (e.g. " "); ideally
, of cause, would be tabs or even obaying the set tabstops. But anything better
than the [] would be really appreciated.

Add the following two lines to WTSEnumerateSessionsA in wtsapi32.c:

With this, I get the "fixme:wtsapi:" messages, but it does NOT crash and does
NOT give any superfluous errors!
Maybe all the functions in this file should have similar lines added.

------- Additional Comments From a_villacis(a)palosanto.com 2005-23-03 11:33 -------
The review for the code continues, now with the second bug.
The second problem is a cryptic "Runtime error 13 - Type mismatch" before the
main GUI is displayed. This second problem cripples the GUI beyond usability
(not even the menus work). Last night I traced the problem to the way an
underflowing negative float was converted into a string.
This program's GUI has two textboxes in which the integer and fractional part of
the gain are displayed. In order to fill them for the first time, the program
extracts the integer and fractional part of the value stored in the registry.
For the fractional part, a series of truncating and rounding are performed on
the original value, followed by a floating-point subtraction. When no values
are stored in the registry (as it is on the very first run), the substraction
is supposed to yield a floating-point zero, but instead produces a very small
negative number (something in the order of -1e-300 to -1e-400). The code
assigns the number to the Text property of a TextBox control, which implicitly
invokes the TextBox_Change event. It is at this stage where things turn nasty.
The root cause is a difference between the way native and builtin oleaut32
handle the conversion of a negative underflow. With a number in the range
mentioned in the preceeding paragraph, native oleaut32 decides it is too close
to a zero, and yields the string "0". Builtin oleaut32 does the same, except
that the negative sign is left behind, and it yields the string "-0". This
difference is significant when the code in TextBox_Change invokes a routine
that (expecting an unsigned integer) keeps just the first character of the
textbox string ("0" for native oleaut32, "-" for builtin oleaut32). Then a
string-to-float conversion is attempted on the string, which naturally fails
for the single dash.
The solution is to disallow negative zeroes from ever being returned from a
string-to-float conversion.

ok, I found out that you just need the rb.exe file, but you have to run it with
wine ./rb.exe (the "./" is important!).
To set up screen resolution etc. use wine ./rb.exe --setup. Thiws will create
the acsetup.cnf file.

Hi,
well this need more investigation (for keyboard).
as you can see in alloc_device:
<snip>
EnterCriticalSection(&keyboard_crit);
if (!keyboard_users++)
keyboard_hook = SetWindowsHookExW( WH_KEYBOARD_LL, KeyboardCallback,
DINPUT_instance, 0 );
LeaveCriticalSection(&keyboard_crit);
<snip>
so keyboad_hook should be ok on first allocation (but for you dont seems).
Can you attach a zip who contains game + data + cfg.
I can't get it running :( (complaining about missing room datas)
I will analyse.
For mouse problems, seems you game use mouse wrap. Usually used when game use
game handled cursor (but no handled by wine dx for now, so you continue see
wine cursor instead game one)
This need to enhance/implement "mouse icon" support
Regards,
Raphael

As was said above, the idea of a bug is something we can fix whereas a fixme
may just be missing functionality but not cause you any problems. You list 2
specific problems, which is more the aim of these (although I would generally
say one per bug please), ie
- Sometimes the program closes out
- when you go into the data area it doesnt show the paths
What happens when the program 'closes out' - what gets logged in the console?

Ok, I managed to get keyboard running, too.
I found out by doing heavy TRACE calls, that the WH_KEYBOARD_LL Hook was never
called. the I saw in the debug log that there are some Acquire/Unacquire calls.
While the mouse stuff then does UnhookWindowsHookEx and SetWindowsHookExW,
the keyboard stuff did not.
When I finally put
keyboard_hook = SetWindowsHookExW( WH_KEYBOARD_LL, KeyboardCallback,
DINPUT_instance, 0 );
at the end of SysKeyboardAImpl_Acquire()
and
UnhookWindowsHookEx( keyboard_hook );
keyboard_hook = 0;
at the end of SysKeyboardAImpl_Unacquire()
it worked!
Any comments?

The bug has appeared with version 20050211.
I've tried all previous versions until the bug appears.
It's present in versions 20050211 and 20050310.
I don't know how to find where the patches are in the cvs tree.
I suspect a regression because in my case it worked until version 20050211.
Or it's perhaps some change has been made for another problem.
Could you tell/direct me to an howto find the patches. I'll try to do my best.
This bug needs to be corrected because it will enable to test directx/opengl
either natively supported by wine, or with win4lin.
My test shows that directx 9 works with wine+windows. Very interesting for
games. The sim runs at 120 frames per second instead of 8 fps under wine !!!.
Not so bad and playable, a good beginning.
I would like to try an directx patch from http://oliverthered.f2s.com/projects/wine/
that seems very promizing, but I need my sim working on 20050310 with the com1 port.
Thanks.

I have been reviewing what happens when MP3GainGUI starts up that triggers the
first of the errors (the dialog box that claims mp3gain.exe could not be found).
The source code of MP3GainGUI has been helpful for this.
MP3GainGui tries to invoke mp3gain.exe at startup in order to get the program
version. This backend reports its version on stdout when invoked with a /v
switch. So, the VB frontend opens a pipe and connects the backend stdout to it
in order to read the version string from it. Since the routine to fetch a
program's stdout is a generic one, and the execution of the program might take
a while, the routine polls for available data from the pipe (much in the way the
select() call is used in Unix) before reading, and calls DoEvents (a VB keyword
that yields control to the GUI in order to process window events) if no data
is available. The function called to poll for available data is PeekNamedPipe(),
with a (supposedly) NULL buffer pointer, and a buffer length of zero. The Wine
implementation of PeekNamedPipe() checks for a NULL pointer before attempting
to read data from the pipe with recv() and the MSG_PEEK flag.
The problem arises because the VB frontend fails at specifying a NULL pointer
for the buffer pointer of PeekNamedPipe(). Because of some poorly-documented
rule about the way an Any parameter in VB behaves, the attempt to pass a
literal 0& (which is, as far as I can remeber, an equivalent of "0L" in C) to
the lpBuffer parameter (declared as Any in the VB file) does NOT translate into
a NULL pointer, but to a non-NULL pointer that points to the zero value (or so
I think). Then PeekNamedPipe() receives a non-NULL pointer, which it interprets
as a valid buffer, and fails to check that the buffer length is set to 0, so it
end up trying to perform a zero-length peek on an invalid buffer with recv().
This operation is (apparently) not supported, and so it says in the errno value.
The PeekNamedPipe() function should check for the buffer length as well as the
buffer pointer before trying to perform the recv() peek on the pipe.

Summary: Keyboard/Mouse does not work on AGS games
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major

Component: wine-directx-dinput

on games constructed with AGS, the AdventureGameStudio,
keyboard and mouse do not work correctly.
1. The mouse always stays in the center of the screen. This I could fix by
commenting out (as of now) line 786 of dlls/dinput/mouse.c:
SetCursorPos( This->mapped_center.x, This->mapped_center.y );
Of course I don't know if that's a valid fix, so I post a bug here for help on
how to debug/fix it properly.
2. Keyboard input does not work at all. although the window gets the events from
X11 (I see them with WINEDEBUG=key) they do not reach dinput (Nothing is seen
on keyboard input and WINEDEBUG=dinput except initialization).
A short Example for such a game can be downloaded under
http://www.bigbluecup.com/games.php?action=detail&id=8
Called "Rob Blanc 1".
To get it running under wine, after unzipping one needs to create a file
acsetup.cfg with e.g. the following contents:
---- cut ----
[misc]
cachemax=5120
screenres=1
windowed=1
forceletterbox=0
antialias=0

Please don't file bugs on fixmes. A fixme is put into the code by the developer,
as a reminder of things remaining to be done. We do not want bug reports on them.

Tobias: is this still a problem? If it is could you provide a link to a program
that displays this bug.
------- Additional Comment #3 From Duane Clark 2005-03-11 10:27 -------
It is still a problem. Any program with a report style listview control will
display this problem. For example, in any program with an "Open" file dialog
(including Wine's notepad), simply switch the file list to report mode (the
rightmost button in Notepad's dialog). When in the display mode, try the test
mentioned above.

Despite the big leap of Wine during that four years, this bug is still the case
(the comments in bug 964 are a bit newer).

The server/registry.c code safes in the users ~/.wine/ directory, where

The version I'm using is free, but it's not a trial version. It's a "Special
Edition" because the code space is less than 4K on the MC68HC908QY2
microcontroller that I'm using.
You can download it if you go to
<http://http://www.metrowerks.com/MW/download/>,
select "CodeWarrior Development Studio for HC08 Microcontrollers",
type in your personal information and they'll email you a download link.
You can reproduce it without even compiling a file, like this:
wine chc08.exe -ViewHidden -h

Some glide wrappers exist layered upon opengl or d3d. Some are good, some less.
glide2x and glide3x could be added to wine using opengl32.dll.
This shouln't be that hard since it's a subset of opengl.
IIRC there are games that only support glide for acceleration. This may be
usefull for those (like me) who like old games. :-)

It puzzled me why it never failed before wine version 20050211.
I just figured it out.
When I simply delete /usr/local/lib/wine/wtsapi32.dll.so, it does NOT fail.
Apparently, rather than testing the version of Windows it is running under,
the application tests for the presence of wtsapi32.dll. If it's not found,
it doesn't try to use it.
The stubbed version of the DLL was just added for the first time in 20050211,
so that was the first opportunity the application had to fail. This isn't so
much a bug as an incomplete feature that's been incomplete all along.

I added *pCount = 0; just before the return of the function.
Same results.
I also tried "Windows" = "win98" and "Windows" = "nt40" in the config file.
Same results.
I thought that might make a difference because this function is only applicable
to Win2K and above.

D'oh - Nice bug :-)
The macro is defined as alloc(type,count) and the code passes in WCHAR and
nLen+1. This becomes HeapAlloc for count*sizeof(type) which becomes
nLen+1*sizeof(WCHAR) - ie nlen + sizeof(WCHAR). Adding brackets to the macro
avoids the problem.

Thank you for attemting a fix so quickly.
I checked out wtsapi32.c, wtsapi32.spec, and wtsapi32.h,
ran 'make' in the dlls\wtsapi32 directory,
installed the resulting wtsapi32.dll.so, and
commented out my additions to my wine config file.
Now the program, chc08.exe, runs without crashing, but generates a superfluous
error. Here are the relevant lines of output, which do not occur when I use the
native .DLL:

(looks like a richedit problem) but installs OK. Once the game is installed it
needs MFC42.DLL and MSVCIRT.dll (I put them in the game directory)
The game crashes just like Flo reported.

Then it is probably something in the environment for xeroc that is different
from the environment for the rest of the users. Possibly you have a custom value
for LD_LIBRARY_PATH? You might want to try dumping the environment for xeroc and
for a different user that does not experience the crash, and compare the two.
You might also want to try comparing the shell configuration files (.bashrc and
friends) to see whether they define strange environment strings. Other hidden
configuration files might be also to blame.
Why is an NVIDIA-related driver loaded when using Wine by xeroc? Is it also
loaded for other users?

Ok, I did some more testing. I changed line 991 in editor.c to
WCHAR *p = ALLOC_N_OBJ(WCHAR, nLen*2+1); // allocate double length
because the crashes were sometimes around that area and a comment there
mentions buffer overruns. Now it works!
But, don't ask me why this works, maybe you can find an explanation?

I now trie to enter text instead of selecting the menu.
There must be some kind of buffer overflow. As soon as I enter the 13th
character in the Combobox, I see this:
err:heap:HEAP_ValidateInUseArena Heap 422c0000: in-use arena 422c1f00 next block
has PREV_FREE flag
or:
err:heap:HEAP_ValidateInUseArena Heap 422c0000: bad flags 3 for in-use arena
422c1f20
If I enter the 23th character it crashes reproducably.
Is there any way to valgrind wine?

With double buffering enabled, I still get:
ChoosePixelFormat() returns 0 (last error = 0)
SetPixelFormat() returns 1 (last error = 0)
wglCreateContext() returns 0 (last error 2000)
wglMakeCurrent() returns 1 (last error = 0)
without, the rendering is quite ok.
Except for the following:
The whole window (not only the MDI child window) has a black background, which
overdraws other child windows, toolbars, menubars etc. Though, the rendered
objects seem to be cropped correctly, i.e. they don't overdraw the toolbars etc.
as the background does, but they seem to be a bit too low.

Interesting, it seems something on your fake Windows install crashes Wine on
startup, but is not VFAT-related. Here are some things you may try.
1) Can you transplant the segfault to a different user? That is, if you make a
tarball of /home/xeroc/.wine, and then untar this on the directory of a brand
new user, with the permissions of the new user, does the new user experience the
same segfault? If you can do this, then
a) you have just created a tarball to be submitted to this bug case as a
bug-trigger, and
b) an quick-and-dirty solution would be to move your /home/xeroc/.wine
directory somewhere else (or delete it altogether), and then reinstalling Wine
for your user.
However, such a tarball would be a very interesting thing to check.
2) If transplanting the Wine directory does not replicate the bug, then you
might want to try running fsck on the drive. Possibly there is some mangled
filename that crashes Wine on startup, and no other user is affected because
that filename does not exist on their directories.
BWT, what kind of filesystem are you using for your home directory? Some people
have reported problems with the ReiserFS journaling filesystem.

Had the slowness of the execution in debug state and the enormous amount of

the application not obtaining to show its first initial window. I am sending

It repairs that the error occurs when the consultation is sent (Enter/Button

application, however is functions perfectly in other windows besides
functioning perfectly in the proper Windows.

OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: KenJackson(a)ieee.org
Until recently I was able to run chc08.exe (Metrowerks Codewarrior C compiler
for HC08 microcontrollers), but now it fails under wine versions 20050211 and
20050310.
Wine complains about missing function wtsapi32.dll.WTSEnumerateSessionsA and says:
err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow 0 bytes
WORK AROUND ====================
I found that I can make it work by copying WTSAPI32.DLL from a real Win2K to the
System32 directory on my fake C: drive, and adding these lines to my wine config
file:
[AppDefaults\\chc08.exe\\DllOverrides]
"wtsapi32" = "native"
[AppDefaults\\Linker.exe\\DllOverrides]
"wtsapi32" = "native"
Note: It's not clear to me what "Component" wtsapi32.dll falls under, so I'm
filing this bug under "wine-misc".

This is ARS by remedy software, version 4.5.
No, a Demo is not available AFAIK, and most probably not from this version.
But I'm a Software Developer myself, maybe I can test/debug something if you'd
tell me what to do.

I have the same problem flickering in windowed mode, and almost unmovable mouse
in full mode.
I have the CVS version updated today (20050315)
Using NV drivers (not Nvidia, I have an TNT2) on X Window System Version 6.8.2
with KDE 3.3.2
The trace file is about 46MB should I upload it ?

BTW this is a regression from 20050211. There this didn't happen.
Strange thing is, it still happens with 20050211 if I don't remove the
riched20.dll from 20050310 (wich obviously is new there). Unfortunately removing
if from 20050310 does not work.
Additional Info:
I get this message, before anything goes wrong.
