Under default Wine installation for 20031212, Started Notepad no problems, but
then got the messages below when I clicked on File|Open to open up an existing
text file. File opens, edits, and saves fine to local disk or to floppy.
Files copied to Wine for Notepad are notepad.exe, notepad.cnt, and notepad.hlp.

Summary: filesystem type unrecognized in SuSE v9
Product: Wine
Version: 20031212
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-dos
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: jeff(a)mail.bciassociates.com
After initial configuration, copied the Notepad.exe files from Win2000 Pro
laptop to my Wine config working directory. While Notepad does work, the
following error occurs when working with any file from within Notepad.
------------
err:dosfs:DRIVE_GetLabel Invalid or unreadable superblock on /dev/fd0 (A:).
Invalid or unreadable superblock on /dev/fd0 (A:). Maybe not FAT?
------------
The Wine config file for the floppy looks like this:
--------
[Drive A]
"Type" = "floppy"
"Path" = "/media/floppy"
"Label" = ""
"Device" = "/dev/fd0"
"Filesystem" = "fat"
--------
The error comes up regardless of the filesystem chosen for the floppy, and
regardless of any label. I don't have another SuSE installation to try, so this
may work elsewhere just fine, but it doesn't work here.
Also, the floppy works fine under Wine.

ah.
the problem is that you do not have enough memory....
there is a new feature in wine to work around another bug, which pulls in
256MB of ram, and you probably have less.
To work around it, do as root:
echo -n 1 > /proc/sys/vm/overcommit_memory
and try to run CVS wine again. (The SUSE RPM has this extra feature disabled
because it is not needed on suse.)

Wine is a user space programm. Even if you build a wrapper around wine to allow
to run only selected applications, the user can recompile wine and run inplace.
Wine only needs read access to an application to load and run it. So "noexec" is
no option that makes sense. "noexec" also doesn't stop you from running an
executable shell script with "sh <script>" nor from copying an executable file
from a "noexec" partition to a normal partition and run it there.
For sandboxing, better concepts are needed...
I changed to status to "invalid".

So I tried to install the SL90 from RPM, as you wrote it.
First it wanted the libcapi20.so.2. But there was no segment fault.
After getting it (for SuSE from the capi4linux package), I installed wine
without any errors.
Now I will uninstall it, and try the CVS version whether only the libcapi was
the problem.

I heard that mounting a partition with noexec, doesn't stop Wine from
executing Windows applications on it.
It would be a really nice feature if it was possible to only let Wine run apps
that are included in a white list.

I had this problem too...
It does seem to be possible to run programs on another computer (a sshd
server) using ssh -X (and view the windows on the clinet computer).
Now ssh "tunnels" the X communications, so it sets DISPLAY to something like
localhost:10.0, and redirects everything sent to the relevant port on the
server computer to the X server on the client. Therefore Wine must be looking
at the DISPLAY environment variable, but not allow you to connect to a
different computer.
Perhaps this is something that is now disabled by default but can be enabled
in a config file?

we do not support richedit20 as builtin yet, so
just change riched32 to be used native by default in
the [DllOverrides] section in the config file, or in
the environment variable:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES=riched32=n
this is a known limitation, no need to keep open a bug entry.

I have a few child games that need the system to have a 256-color palette. To do
that, I either execute a new X server in another virtual console or I can start
X with the default depth of 8, instead of my usual 24 bits of color.
However the display shows the wrong colors for all the visual standard visual
components, and the games show the graphics but with weird colors. I've checked
with winmine.exe and the problem is the same, that is, instead of the classic
gray tiles for the mines mine are yellow.
I'm using wine-20031212 on Mandrake 9.0. Everything compiles without errors.

All I see is a blank screen and I get this message 'err:win:CreateWindowExA

So I thought the problem is with the redhat 9 rpm for i686 has some missing
features. I downloaded the source code and compiled it... made things worse.
I am not an expert in compiling source code. I will try the redhat 9 rpm for
i386 instead.

I apologize for the late reply, just got back to the university (&& my

I will not be able to do the test because I am using Mandrake 9.2 (x86).
I believe that the problem is based in the pthreads package that RedHat
9.0 uses.
I have heard from friends who had the same problem as I did found it to
be resolved
with the latest Wine distribution.
so I guess it is fixed with the last pthread/nptl fixes in 20031212

Email me me the logs and I'll take a quick look (click my name above for the
email addr!). At present the d3d8 code emits lots of fixmes at startup as
device checks are done but none should come out during general running of the
game. I am more interested in fixmes which come out regularly (as this would
slow the game) or ones which come out when graphics corruption occurs.
I was running with cvs wine yesterday and sound disabled (Drivers="" in the
~/wine/.config file) and got the menu (looked fine), clicked single player,
then it hung during the load process.

Summary: Unhandled exception installing dcom98.exe
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: jjl(a)pobox.com
I attempted to install dcom98.exe on wine current CVS as of yesterday (install seems OK:
Winzip works fine), debian woody.
The only changes I made to a clean install were 1. setting the windows version to win98 and 2.
unpacking the .CAB files for IE6, following the instructions at the URL below, under "Method
2" (I also tried "Method 1", the new IE installer for wine, which failed in the same way).
http://tinyurl.com/24cmohttp://frankscorner.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req…
I've tried both with and without native ole32 (taken from win98).
It gets as far as the license dialog, and when I click "Yes", it deadlocks (see below). I get an
essentially identical problem if I try to run ie6setup.exe (rather than extracting from the .CABs I
had lying around already).

I tried, to start the demo, and log the output but this time it even fails to
load it. (I updated my wine from cvs since the first try). However there is a
lot of fixme that is display under start process but the file is 70K. Should I
upload it, or only some portion of it?
By the way, it is possible that the game will start, i waited for it 10 minutes
then closed it (nothing hapens only a window border is diplayed).

FYI You will get significantly better back traces by setting WINELOADER, I did:
export WINELOADER=`which wine` (/usr/local/bin/wine for me).
As to the 2nd crash, it occurs every time you hit a lamppost, and I have a
patch for it (dx99) which i am just submitting. I havent hit the first one but
I run with sound disabled so I can concentrate on graphics issues. Let me know
if you can reproduce any more with the mafia demo.

After applying the patch, confirmed fixed for the unimplemented wgl function.
You can close this case. (I am not sure about bug closing protocol on
wine/bugzilla).
(The "can't see the text" described by Lionel Ulmer seems to be caused by a
general missing fonts problem unrelated to OpenGL. In the larger app, even
non OpenGL text is invisible, including menus, UI. I have to track that one down
separately)

Could try after applying the (soon to be) attached patch to your Wine source
tree (go to the Wine root and do 'patch -p0 < PATCH....').
Note that with this patch, the application works but I was not able to see any
Foo displayed on the screen... So I have no idea if it's a bug in this new
function, one in the current Wine code or one in your application.
And as the background is black, I doubt I could see 'Foo' written anywhere :-)

Here is a simpler program:
http://www.mangrai.com/khai/winegear/bug1925.tar.gz
If you can run it successfully, the text "Foo" should be displayed in black
somewhere if you look carefully. The program runs fine if I remove the calls to
Qt's OpenGL renderText function.
Let me know if you need sources to the actual call to wgl stuff. I'll have to
dig it up from the Qt source code.

I was unable to run Visual Foxpro 7 application with default wine config file
shipped with 20031212 deb package.
After adding

My Visual FoxPro 7 application works OK.
The attachment in bug #1926 and also from www.eetasoft.ee/scrollbug.zip
reproduces this problem.

------- Additional Comments From khai(a)mangrai.com 2004-04-01 07:20 -------
More information. The "Local_GetBlock not enough space" in my case (not the
original bug report) was caused by trying to create too many Pixmaps from a Qt
application. "Too many" in this case is >500 to several thousand. Once I
suppressed creating so many, it got past this point without any errors.
I think you have to allow for a lot more pixmaps to be created. I wasn't
halfway done when it ran out of space.

MSDN doesn't given any indication that WM_CLOSE can lead to a WM_QUIT but I
suspect they made a convenience mod so that if it's the last window in the app
WM_CLOSE will produce a WM_QUIT.
I'd want confirmation that this is actually what is happening though before we
make this change. How do most apps cleanly terminate if this is the case? Does
this only happen for badly written apps that don'to PostQuitMessage themselves?

I tried again and the problem is gone.
The patch at http://cvs.winehq.com/patch.py?id=5760 fixed the problem about one
year ago.
This patch removes the WM_QUERYNEWPALETTE message send that causes the infinite
loop.
I don't known though if the WM_QUERYNEWPALETTE message handling was broken or not.
Should I close this bug anyway?

Summary: Current working directory truncated for directories > 80
characters
Product: Wine
Version: 20030911
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: j.visser(a)valescom.com
A program using wine that resolves the current working directory, i.e. ".",
results in erroneous behaviour if the canonical directory path consists of more
than +/- 80 characters.
This behaviour can be duplicated using wcmd:
- make a deep directory structure: mkdir -p ~/1/2/3/4/5/6.../30
- cd to the end of the last directory, i.e. 30
- start wcmd
What you should see is something like:
F:\home\jevi\1\2\3\4\5\6\7\8\...\30>
What you will be seing is something like:
F:\home\jevi\1\2\3\4\5\6\7\8\..\21>
The current directory path is truncated.
This behaviour can also be duplicated using wine, the windows IBM jdk 1.3.1, and
the following java program:
import java.io.*;
class Main
{
public final static void
main(String[] anArguments)
throws IOException
{
System.out.println(new File(".").getAbsolutePath());
}
}
This test was performed on fedora core 1 using wine-20031212-1fc1winehq.rpm.

ws_sockaddr_ws2u(), in dlls/winsock/socket.c, tries to zero out the sipx_zero
field of the newly created sockaddr_ipx. This fails to build on OpenBSD since
that field doesn't exist. I've attached a patch which should fix the problem.
(It compiles successfully on my machine with the patch, though I don't have a
good way to see if it functions correctly.)

gethostbyname_r
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-ports
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: wiml(a)hhhh.org
On OpenBSD 3.4, the 'configure' script incorrectly "detects" the existence of
gethostbyname_r although this function doesn't exist on OBSD. This eventually
causes the build to fail.
My guess is that the check should be done using AC_TRY_LINK (or even
AC_TRY_RUN?) instead of AC_TRY_COMPILE, at configure.ac line 1256.
