I'm trying to run a particular program under wine. The installer failed, and I cheated by
copying my install from one machine which dual boots to a second. Both machines use
mandrake 9.1 and the same version of wine.
On machine one, i can use some specific dlls which allow opening .ecw files. On
machine two I am unsuccessful. I have tried various overrides on these dlls and can't
get the program (OziExplorer) to use the ecw files.
the dlls are NCScnet.dll NCSEcw.dll NCSUtil.dll
Typical output from wine is
/home/liz/.wine/fake_windows/OziExplorer/oziexp.exe

Personally, I think wine is great and have used it to keep from having to reboot into
windows.
I have a full installation of Win98SE on this machine w/ most of the latest patches.
It is also my development machine and I used to be able to run Sybase Power Designer
on it, and I would hate to have to go back to windows just to use my tools.
Thanks.

Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-tools
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: edgaralwers(a)gmx.de
Running "winecheck", the program hangs during the process of checking
system devices used by wine, in the first line
....025. checking sound device /dev/dsp.....
and after several minutes I have to kill the program with ctrl c.
In my /dev directory dsp points to dsp0
I run "regedit winedefault.reg" but nothing has changed.
I asume that this is a bug in winecheck: the program should not die by any
circumstances but give a message telling what is wrong instead, giving the
chance for a correction.
I am using "Linux from the scratch", with kernel 2.4.18. The wine version was
compiled and installed: 20030813 and is functioning so far ( first tests with
Solitair ) OK.
Thanks and kind regards,
Edgar Alwers

I've an usb to serial adapter based on pl2303 and a conexant Winmodem. Both devices works from
linux using /dev/ttyUSB0 for the first and /dev/ttySHSF0 for the second.
I thried them with minicom.
Under wine, I've tried to assign
"Com1" = "/dev/ttyS0"
"Com2" = "/dev/ttyUSB0"
"Com3" = "/dev/ttySHSF0"
All devices are rw permission for the wine user.
I tried to load Hyperterm from wine with all required dlls.
I started wine with "wine --debugmsg +trace,+comm,+file ./path_to_hyperterm.exe
When I try to access com1 I get a file error since I haven't no attached device.
When I try to access to com2 or com3 I get an error from hyperterm.exe. The error isn't trapped
from debugmsg. It seems that wine can't use virtual linux serial devices.
Any suggestion?
Best Regards, Eddi

Treeview in application is sending WM_NOTIFY on double click (NM_DBLCLK) to the
wrong window handle. With current code for CreateWindowEx in windows/win.c
owner is set to "GetAncestor( cs->hwndParent, GA_ROOT )" and WM_NOTIFY goes to
wrong window. If I change code so that owner is "WIN_GetFullHandle(cs-
>hwndParent)" then there is problem with Z ordering (keeping popup window on
top) but WM_NOTIFY goes to Cview as it should.
However if I use --dll comctl32=n and owner is set to "GetAncestor( cs-
>hwndParent, GA_ROOT )" everything works OK - popup is on top and CView
receives WM_NOTIFY from it.

The problem here is your graphics card doesnt support the extension we need to
be able to do some of the opengl combine operations
(GL_NV_texture_env_combine4). Interestingly though you appear to have compiled
on a machine which understands them (we should do runtime checks as well).
In theory we could also support the ATI equivalent but I dont have an ATI card
to test on.
Whats the graphics card here?

Hmm, that's probably because you initially created the config file via the root
user, with no permissions for your local user.
Try
chmod 666 ~/.wine/config
then edit the file.
The User Guide cannot point out all the weird things that may happen if people
use strange ways to install things, I think.
Ah, crap. Now I realized what the REAL problem is:
You're trying to *run* a non-executable *config* file, thus getting the bash
error message, of course.
Which instruction "told" you to do it like that?
(In other words: which part is not evident enough and has to be fixed?)
BTW, what kinds of other issues did you have with the new User Guide version
mainly improved by me?
It's cool to have a Dumb Clueless N00b User (tm) (no offense - that's just a
joke!) who is able to point out all the "weaknesses" of the docu...
I suggest making a deal:
You just tell me about all the issues you ae able to recall, and I'll walk you
through remaining problems.

Summary: configure and wineinstall exit with missing shell script
errors on RH9 system
Product: Wine
Version: 20030813
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-tools
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: k.lafond(a)comcast.net
Config: Red Hat 9.0 kernel 2.4.20. Never installed Wine on this system.
I downloaded and unzipped the latest full tar file from WineHQ. If I run
"./tools/wineinstall" or if I run "./configure --with-nptl" I get the following
output:
./configure: line 88: conf22072.sh: No such file or directory
./configure: line 89: conf22072.sh: No such file or directory
chmod: failed to get attributes of `conf22072.sh': No such file or directory
./configure: line 201: conf22072.file: No such file or directory
./configure: line 949: config.log: No such file or directory
The number portion of the confXXXXX.sh file name is different each time the
installation is attempted.
I have confirmed that the --with-nptl option is included (code path taken) when
the wineinstall script is run.

Summary: Window refresh problem with GroupBox and Tabs
Product: Wine
Version: 20030813
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: gabriele.giorgetti(a)teamfab.it
Hello, I've got an application which purpose is to just reproduce the wine bug
I'm gonna explain below. (I can't upload the application itself yet. I'll do
that as soon as I'll be able to).
There is, basically, a window, a tab control with four tabs, some GroupBoxes and
a few editboxes. (Please, see the attached .gif to get an idea).
Here we go with the interesting part...
If you run the application you'll realize that some editboxes are not
drawn at all and some other not correctly drawn (Expecially if you go through
the tabs...)
Now if you minimize and then raise this window or drag part of it out of the
screen and then back in, everything in it is correctly "painted".
The pic tabwin_ok.gif shows the application correctly drawn, while in
tabwin_bad.gif you'll see the application in its bad behavior (Like described
above).
Another interesting thing to note is that if you go through the tabs backward
( from the last one to the first one ) the window contents is correctly drawn,
not if you go from the first tab to the last one. This is always reproducible.
This bug is 100% reproducible with Wine 20030813, 20030709, 20030618 (the
versions I could work with...)
I'm actually trying to fix this by myself (an ugly workaround will do the job as
well) but any help to get me to the right direction will be appriciated.
You're more than welcome to ask for any debug or strace log.
Thanks.

This bug makes it impossible to run Flash MX in any practical way.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install FlashMX on a Win2k machine.
2. Copy FlashMX folder over into Fake Windows Folder.
3. Run Flash MX by typing wine Flash.exe

4. Make a trivial drawing.
5. Attemp to save the project.

The program feezes and produces a stream of error messages that fly past too
quickly for the eye to see. I will append these to a later post because for some
reason now, every time I try to load Flash.exe, this happens:

[1]+ Stopped wine Flash.exe
It has been suggested that the following commands will fixe the problem:
[AppDefaults\\flash.exe\\DllOverrides]
"shell" = "native"
"shell32" = "native"
"comdlg32" = "native"
"shfolder" = "native"
However, after adding these flash does not even load!
sal@raynard Flash $ wine Flash.exe
sal@raynard Flash $
... thats right, NOTHING! Well. I have found that if I reset the entire computer
I can make it load again, but untill I reset it wont party. So unfortunately I
cannot even give you error messages!
Symptoms:
Flash starts up normally, and appears to be working fine. Guy, fonts etc are
perfect.
Attempt to save or load or export a FLA file, and the whole thing seizes.
Apply suggested fixes to Config file, and this causes Flash to not even load.
Thanks for your attention!
:-)

[1]+ Stopped wine Flash.exe
It has been suggested that the following commands will fixe the problem:
[AppDefaults\\flash.exe\\DllOverrides]
"shell" = "native"
"shell32" = "native"
"comdlg32" = "native"
"shfolder" = "native"

Wine fails when installing Microsoft Word 2000 and Office 2000 under Red Hat
Linux 10 (Severn beta). I get the message "Installing this product requires the
Windows installer. An error occurred when installing or upgrading the Windows
installer." The same error occurs using CrossOver Office 2.0.1.
I was able to install MS Word and Office under Red Hat 9.0. I realize that this
is probably a Red Hat problem but I need to get Wine running under RH10 and am
looking for any help.

I run artsd, and then started the game, well, it worked. I got a very nice, long
and interesting intro, but it was mute. The good thing is that the graphics was
perfect, and the performance wasn't bad at all. When the playing phase started,
I had to drive a car, I think I was an escort to someone. The car graphics ware
quite bad, the textures ware not loading correctly, so it was semi-transparent.
I got half way round a corner and the game crashed. the dbg found a problem in
D3D8.DLL, but I'm not going to worry about it until Robert fixes the directsound
problem. Of course, if some d3d8 developer wants to work on this, I can post the
d3d8 log, the dbg output and bt, and whatever else may help.

It appears that DIJOYSTATE2 size is 272.
Also it appears that the code below that (line605 of dinput/joystick/linux.c)
and line 914 if dinput/joystic/linuxinput.c both bay have buffer overflows in
their memcopyes since its uses the length passed to it,not the sizeof of the

I can confirm this bug. Wine Version 20030813 (CVS).
Here's a tracelog of the start of the game. The warnings do not reappear later,
when other cutscenes are played but there is one right at the start, so i guess
they might be related.
I will leave out the fixmes for directdraw, starting with dsound-stuff.

looks most interesting, like a call to the mixer-api, that is stubbed/left
unhandled.
Maybe the sound channel for the cutscenes is muted thereafter? But just a guess,
actually I have no idea.
Hope this will help.
Thx,
Björn

And i can't use ALT-Button for Attack, perhaps because wrong attitude of keyboard
shortcuts.. ;-))
And the Linux Client of Tibia is not good.. It's an old Client.. :-((
One does not have a night. It is always day. And if it is night. Is there flickering. I think
this flicker consider the day. Like a garb stop.
err:ddraw:setup_rect_and_surface_for_blt Only BLT override to front or back-buffer is
supported for now !
And the other two errors. I think is more for the fullscreen mode and for maximizing the
Tibia of window.. Because the Grafik is much to pixel (rough), is not fine in the
maximized Tibia windows (its vector grafik, i think).. In addition, as for the day and night
error, because flickering refers only within a small area of Tibia window.
err:ddraw:d3ddevice_lock_update Wrong surface type for locking !

This its my second attempt of bug report.. Sorry bug report 1661 is not so good.. :/ (I
think, because my english is not that best..)

Summary: WriteFile threw an exception when calling it with a
Timeout set
Product: Wine
Version: 20030813
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-files
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: pschranz(a)caracal-tech.com
This Win32 call:
WriteFile( m_handle, (VOID *) buf, len, &byteswritten, NULL );
generated an exception. I opened the port this way:
(hport = CreateFile( port, GENERIC_READ | GENERIC_WRITE,
0, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL,
NULL )
where port is COM1. This is synchronous I/O (not overlapped). I set a timeout
for the port:
if ( SetCommTimeouts( hPort, &m_tmo ) == 0)
In the wine file .../wine/files/file.c the method BOOL WINAPI WriteFile(...)
does not set the local pointer PLARGE_INTEGER poffset under the above
circumstances since its not overlapped. When the kernel method NtWriteFile is
called this pointer is passed in and accessed since a timeout has been set.
Here's the logic for that in .../wine/dlls/ntdll/file.c in the method NTSTATUS
WINAPI NtWriteFile(...)
if ( flags & (FD_FLAG_OVERLAPPED|FD_FLAG_TIMEOUT))
{
--snip--
ovp->offset = offset->s.LowPart;
--snip--
}
Since offset is NULL this throws an exception. I believe this is a bug.

wineinstall will not run as root.
If you run it as a user then during the install wineinstall reports that you
need to 'su root' (after scrolling several write permission errors).
Even if I 'su root' (where my effective uid should still be the user) it
reports that installing wine as root is a bad idea.
I am running Redhat v9, using the 20030813 build of wine.

Summary: Roller Coaster Tycoon
Product: Wine
Version: 20030813
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major

Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: lordkat(a)hotmail.com
The version of RCT I'm using is a CD version, 1.0.xxx (sorry, I'm not sure of
the last digits). I belive my version of RCT to be one of those funky versions
that companies tend to put out strictly for wholesale, so the contents on the CD
may, or may not, be the same as other versions.
Roller Coaster Tycoon is unable to install. Initally, the installer will
comaplin about files which are named with the tilde (~); for example, the
installer expects "Hasbro Interactive Website.url" but the file on the CD-ROM is
named "hasbro~1.url"
The installer will complain about all files named this way, which includes
folders, as well as data files. If a copy on the local hard drive is made, and
the file names are not changed, the program will complain about the specific
file. If, however, all of the files/folders are named correctly, the program
quits with the error: "Setup failure: a file or files could not be copied." This
affets both the full and minimal installation.
Finally, there is also another bug where the CD is not detected, and the dialog
box which informs the user of the CD not being present is not drawn properly
(buttons are missing text). Should this be a seperate bug?

The line
WS_setsockopt( s, WS_SOL_SOCKET, WS_SO_REUSEADDR, (char*)&on, sizeof(on) );
is causing trouble with Unreal and maybe other games It isn't possible anymore
to servers in the serverlist, they seem to be randomly "switched" so a specific
server can't be chosen anymore. Tracked this bug down since i've recognized that
it doesnt happen with Wine-20021125 but with any version after that. After
uncommenting this line everything works, even with 20030813.

Since now wine can recognize X11 keysyms, keyboard seems to work correctly.
Although the Russian keyboard layout definition itself is still incorrect, it is simply not
used. Makes it any sense to fix it right now, or these keyboard layouts should be
simply removed from future releases?

Summary: Can't select item in eMule serverlist (ListBox)
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: stsz(a)gmx.net
I can't select an item in the serverlist of eMule 0.29c. Neither left or right
clicking on an item selects it, and so a default context menu pops up instead.
This affects selecting by mouse only. If I focus the list and select an item by
keyboard, it works as expected. The list seems to me like a modified version of
an ordinary listbox.
The list of running downloads works like a charm (like the rest of eMule). The
serverlist works perfect in Windows.
This occurs in Wine version 20030709 and 20030813.

Actually, I marked as CVS, because the 20030813 build wasn't yet listed in the
available Versions list on Wine bugzilla. I've regression tested only in that I
dropped back to the previous release, in which wininet did function successfully
with ICQ 20012. I've also tested for this bug on Windows 95 and Windows 2000 and
the ICQ 2001a application works perfectly on both and does not experience the
connection problem.

Since you are already using CVS, probably the best thing to do is a regression
test, and then add the email address of the author of the offending patch to
this bug ;) Or at least email him directly. I notice that quite a few people
have contributed small wininet patches recently. Regression testing with CVS is
fairly simple:

ICQ endlessly tries to login, despite good connection and good route to

I think.. I should describe the Grafik problems, exact.
One does not have a night. It is always day. And if it is night. Is there flickering. I think
this Falckern consider the day. Like a garb
stop.
err:ddraw:setup_rect_and_surface_for_blt Only BLT override to front or back-buffer is
supported for now !
And the other two errors. I think is more for the fullscreen mode and for maximizing the
Tibia of window.. Because the Grafik is much to pixel (rough), is not fine in the
maximized Tibia windows (its vector grafik, i think).. In addition, as for the day and night
error, because flickering refers only within a small area of Tibia window.
err:ddraw:d3ddevice_lock_update Wrong surface type for locking !
err:ddraw:d3ddevice_unlock_update Wrong surface type for locking !

I'm using Gentoo v1.4 and Portage in Gentoo to install Wine.
"ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge wine" downloads and compiles Wine and it's
dependencies.
I "installed" a new soundcard in my computor (Started using the integreated
Realtek ALC650) and I got it working after some time. But the path to dsp
changed and I didn't know where in Wine to change this path so i remeged
(Reinstalled it with Portage). I ran ./configure and this came up:

I tried using the latest demo of crossover office and installed :
dcom95 (done by crossover automatically)
internet explorer 6.0 full (streets complained about not having Internet
Explorer 4.01 Sp2 or higher installed during install
I also installed MDAC 2.8 and Jet 4.0 Sp7 from microsoft.com but Streets and
Trips still complained during install about needing to upgrade "core and data
access." So I had a thought, I installed the Outlook 2002 (xp) that came with
my pocketpc. This version of "core and data access" not the one that was
included with Streets and Trips installed correctly. I think thats mainly
because I used the "Install Office XP" feature in Crossover Office.
After all this, Streets and Trips installed perfectly. When I go to run
Streets and Trips the intro pops up and just sits there. I waited 10 minutes
but nothing happened. I tried Outlook and that worked fine. Back to see what
Streets and Trips is doing just waiting.

Same behaviour with the "parent program" Metacreator (see AlsoNote: in main
description), dies after initial splash screen. This demo will likely emulate
the actual GURPS Characterbuilder v 3.0 better than the GCB demo v 2.2.1 which
is availible on the SJGAMES website. Here is the link to the demo of MetaCreator

Gurps Character Builder ( http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/characterbuilder/ )v 3.0
dies with the following (below description is output to terminal).
The program will install ok. When it is launched it does actualy start, the
version splashscreen comes up, but then it dies. I belive a small "tips" dialoge
box normally lanuches at this point. This might be the catylist of the crash?
Demo version of the program is availible at link above (it is the 2.2.1 version
however, not exactly the same, I've got the new, just released 3.0 version).
Note: This app in CrossoverOffice 2.0.1 works (mostly, it doens't crash
outright, but rather just some of the menubar items are "greyed out, the fonts
are ugly as hell, but the program is 90% functional in cxoffice"). Fonts look
great for the two seconds the program runs in Wine.
AlsoNote: This app is a special build for Steve Jackson Games by Alter Ego
Software, who release this same program under the name MetaCreator for other RPG
systems. ( http://www.alteregosoftware.com/ ), demo versions exist there as well.
I've tried it with several native w98se DLL files as well, exact same behaviour
shell.dll (renamed from shell.new, as I couldn't find a shell.dll anywhere in
the cab files), advapi32.dll, comctl32.dll, comdlg32.dll, commdlg.dll
crtdll.dll, msvfw32.dll, msvideo.dll, shell32.dll.
Looks like the program itself installed at least the following DLLs in
windows/system/
-rw-r--r-- 1 mettius users 401462 1999-11-30 22:40 msvcp60.dll
-rw-r--r-- 1 mettius users 266293 1999-02-11 01:33 msvcrt.dll
attached is a diff of the original virgin wine (post winesetup) windows/system
directory, and post GURPS Character builder and Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 install.

I've succeed to install and run a VFP 6.0 application on Mandrake Linux under
Wine (latest version). But unfortunately there is an error that comes
frequently an hangs the application: UNABLE TO CREATE TEMPORARY WORK FILE.
In fact, that errors occurs when the program issue BEGIN TRANSACTION command.
I don't know where or what is the source of that problem. Seems that I've
configured the \WINDOWS\TEMP correctly in config (wine) file. Besides that,
that folder has, apparently, the rights for my user.
What could be the solution ?

-pipe sets up a pipe between stages (vs. using temp files). The advantage of
using a pipe is speed, and security (yes, security).
As for #12 Marcus, you confuse me in two ways. First I believe you are trying
to say _I_ have to compile wine in a special way because of interlocked
functions? I have no idea what you mean by that heh. This is the default
build. If using the default, or common (in this case, -pipe is very common),
options cause the compile to fail, it's a bug imho :-). Now if that is a bug in
the compiler or the source, remains to be determined.
As for -pipe not affecting the compile, _something_ must be wrong because if
that were truely the case, this bug would not exist :-)
Another point to make is that this _did_ work. I've rolled rpms using the same
spec file several times. Infact I think the file originaly came from Red Hat 7.3.

Incredibly, the set up works, with winver set to xp, it only installs part of IE
(No ierplore.exe), but the set up is fine. I installed only the minimum files so
the cd is needed to run the software. I also have to run wineboot, and I get an
error about some ocx file, I don't think it's important, but I can report about
this in detail if it can help.
The splash screen loads, and I get a message saying that the application can't
continue, and m$ is sorry about it. I have a debug button, and a cancel button,
they both just exit. If I run wine with --debugmsg +relay, I just get the splash
screen, so I'll attach both standard and relay output.

The setup updates some system components and asks you to reboot. Wineboot work

I should contact the application vendor to check if it is a proper windows
installer package. I'll attach a relay log.

It looks for IE, and as it isn't there, it trys to install it for you. This
can't work for now. Setting winver to xp you can jump the IE check, but the
install stops after copying about 40pc of the files, and wine and wineserver use
0pc of processor power. I'll attach the wine output.

------- Additional Comments From marcus(a)jet.franken.de 2003-09-08 15:07 -------
you need to compile all files with Interlocked* functions, since they are defined in the include/winbase.h header which is included by nearly all .c files. -pipe does not affect compilation of .c files at all.
