Hi there everybody!
Sorry if this is at the wrong place, i didnt know where to put it.
Heres my problem:
I was attempting to install lightwave 7.5 on my box (athlonxp 1800+, 768mb ddr,
ati radeon9500) with gentoo linux and Gnome2. I installed wine20031016 (wasnt
able to specify it above) and after i got several programs working (even
photoshop 5!) I thought it could just work. After a little fight with
installshield and co the setup started without an errorbox but broke down when
configuring the windows installer. So i told wine to give me all the warn
messages and those are really strange and i dont understand them. At the end
there is something about merging the winedefault.reg but this doesnt help (i
also reinstalled wine, no change)
Here is my output of the console:

- select the box
- click on the down arrow and keep the left mousebutton down
- use the up and down arrows on the keyboard to select the options
The box is badly repainted after selection.

Summary: Values for drop down listbox not shown
Product: Wine
Version: 20030408
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: aragorn(a)tiscali.nl
I'm trying to run the Dutch program for requesting a tax refund with
Wine 20030408. This program is available at
http://download.belastingdienst.nl/pub/2004/setup_vt.exe.
The program starts OK with no errors I can see. Everything seems to work
fine, except that a drop down listbox that should hold three options is
empty. When I click the down arrow on the box, it stays pressed for a
little while but no list appears below the box. Neither can I enter a value
in the box.
If I run the program under Windows 2000 it works fine: I can select from the
list and by typing the first letters in the box.
I tried to run the program with the native Windows 98SE commctrl and
commdlg dll-pairs, but that did not change anything (just slower
performance).
The problem can be reproduced as follows:
- Start the main program VT2004.exe (make sure the working directory is
the directory that contains this executable)
- You will first get a splash screen followed by the main screen
- Click "Persoonlijke gegevens" in the top left of the main screen
- The problem is in the listbox after the text "Uw persoonlijke situatie
in 2004"
The drop-down list should show the options "Alleenstaand" "Gehuwd" "Ongehuwd
samenwonend".
Additional information:
I just found that I can enter values by first right clicking on the box, then
typing escape or clicking to get rid of the context menu, and finaly typing
the first letter of an option (A, G or O).

uninstall ssl-devel & krb5-devel and their dependencies. Then it will compile.
You can also just use rh9 wine.
remember to use
setarch i386 wine program
Also you need to disable prelink for some software to work, or build wine
in say /usr/local, so prelink does not touch it.

Hi Mike,
I have not looked into how to do a backtrace yet, I guess that's my
homework.
However, what I can tell you, at this point in time, is that there is not a
problem with counter->QuadPart.
I do not now believe the problem lies in misc/cpu.c at all. I have
determined that if one's computer is slower than 1GHz (I have a P3/450),
then RealPlayer 8 will cause Wine to throw an 'Unhandled exception (thread
0017)'. It seems that somewhere, (presumably in its video-handling
thread,) QueryPerformanceFrequency() is being called, and if the calling
code receives back a value of less than 1000000, then it is not happy. My
machine correctly gives it something very close to 450000 :-(.

[the version I currently run is wine-20031016, which is not an option in bugzilla]
A windows application tries to use the serial interface to communicate with a
target device. The target device is not directly connected to the linux computer
where the application is running (under Wine). That's why I want to redirect the
serial interface over the network. For that I need the application to use the
ptys as serial interface.
The problem is that, even though I enter the right configuration parameters:
[serialports]
"Com1" = "/dev/ttyp0"
when I run the application, it does not use the pty. I do not even know if Wine
has recognized the tty as a valid COM1. When I run winecheck, nothing is
reported about the serial interfaces.

Can you get a backtrace of the fault? As I suspected it might be, the exception
is a div by zero. I think we're returning a faulty value... this machine is
quite old yes?
Try printing the value of counter->QuadPart in QueryPerformanceCounter()

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

Component: wine-tools
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com

I used the tools/wineinstall script from CVS.
I DO NOT want to execute it as root. Thus, after the configuration, I typed make
install (My user ID is in an "install" group). The files were well copied in
/usr/local/wine.
I saw that wineinstall created some symbolic links in
[fake_windows_c_drive]/windows:
./system/wcmd.exe
./system/control.exe
./system/help.exe
./system/notepad.exe
./system/progman.exe
./system/regsvr32.exe
./system/winmine.exe
./system/winver.exe
./command/start.exe
./notepad.exe
./regedit.exe
./rundll32.exe
./uninstall.exe
./winhelp.exe
./winhlp32.exe
Those links point to files located in following source directory:
/home/j/src/wine/programs
I would like that "wineinstall" link them to the files copied in my install
directory (/usr/local/wine).

Thanks a lot for the tip. I did not have symbol.ttf in my Windows/Fonts/

now. Thanks again.

The program uses (here) the standard Symbol font. This was broken in Wine and
fixed about a week ago.
To use it symbol.ttf must be available in your Windows\Fonts subdirectory,
together with the other usual windows fonts (Arial etc.) AND you must have a
recent version of libfreetype installed.
Check with --debugmsg +font if the freetype loading is going well, this is in
the beginning on my system:

I should add that the fonts are still incorrect. I am not sure whether it is a
problem in the wine code, or I did not set up my fonts correctly.
I used tools/fnt2bdf to convert the *.FON files in the C:\WINDOWS\FONTS

These are the ones which got converted successfully:

Summary: wine and winedbg will not run on AMD K6 system
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: urtext(a)hfx.andara.com
System:
RH9, fully patched to November 1 2003
AMD K6-2 on MVP3
Wine fails with "nested exception on signal stack" errors (its in signal_i386.c
in ntdlls).
I origionally tried the RH9 rpms on this machine, but wine always failed with a
segmentation fault. Then I cleaned the system and tried with the gz binary
package, then the source distribution and finally the CVS, all with the same
result. Using wineinstall with a no Window installation this time, but building
the ~/.wine/config by hand has the same effect.
Running "wine notepad.exe" has the following restult to STDERR (ignore the
configuration messages):
Could not stat /mnt/fd0 (No such file or directory), ignoring drive A:
Could not stat /cdrom (No such file or directory), ignoring drive D:
err:seh:setup_exception nested exception on signal stack in thread 0009 eip
400454fd esp 4080019c stack 0x407b0000-0x409b0000
the setup_exception line is repeated 344 times, each with different esp values
until wine finally craps out with a segmentation fault. Running winedbg without
any parameters has the same errors, but the setup_exception loop seems to run
forever.
I have never managed to get wine running on this system at all -- I've been
trying on and off since August.

Lionel's patch is correct. However, it activates previously dormant code,
part of which causes this bug.
There seems to be a problem with the code of misc/cpu.c which deals with the
case where PF[PF_RDTSC_INSTRUCTION_AVAILABLE] = TRUE. (Evidence:
commenting-out lines 391, 392 gets the video back on my system.)

Please note that the above comments were from Bug 926, which applied to Diablo
II, but that these same notes are now also applying to StarCraft/Brood Wars for
sure and probably all of the WarCraft's.. So if you are having a problem with
a loader for Diablo II or StarCraft, and you are able to get the game to run
(just not on bnet) with the cracked exe (the file you actually replaced in the
game directory), then contact me, otherwise, file a new bug or put your
comments under bug 926.

I used to play Diablo II regularly under wine, however after a long hiatus I
tried again recently and it didn't work. It just sat there, no errors, no
windows, nothing happened. It seems either newer versions of wine have a
regression here or there's an incompatibility with X 4.2 or linux 2.4 or
something else on my system that's been updated. I straced the process and it
just sat calling wait4 but then I guess that's normal, it's hard to trace a
program that forks so much.

hmm, I am able to get windows opened, i just cant get it to start now, if I

------- Additional Comments From Speeddymon <at> yahoo.com 2002-10-15 02:04
-------
I figured out the problem...
Here is the scenario:
Diablo II.exe and Game.exe unpatched, no bnet loader
Game works (from what I can tell, dont have original CD right now, it is at a
friend's)
DLoad.exe and Game_crk.exe bnet loader and patched Game.exe
Game_crk.exe works for single player only, DLoad.exe is the file causing the
errors
If you need to run the game on bnet with the loader for whatever reason, email
me by clicking on my name above this post. I will email you a script to get it
working, it does the same thing as DLoad.exe but it is in script form so that
you can do it on linux...
--------
Note that these notes are a bit old and I havent gotten a chance to update them
to the newest wine output, so some of them may be invalid, but then again, this
bug is mainly a place for people who are having problems with the loaders and
need to get it working

This is not a bug in wine, but a "feature" in Battle.net. They check your copy
of starcraft.exe (or the brod wars executable) to see if it is cracked or
not.. Since yours is, it tells you that it is unable to determine the
application version. You have a couple of options..
1) Go buy a new CD.. This isnt always the most feasible, but if you have the
money to blow, why not?
2) Go buy a Game Doctor/Skip Doctor/Disc Doctor/etc.. This is a scratch repair
kit that truely works. It uses a layer of water and a wheel to fill in the
scratches on the surface of the disc.. You can get it at Best Buy. Word of
caution on this one: It makes the surface of the disc a little hazy (from the
water) so if you have an older CD Drive (anything slower than a 36x), dont use
this one because it wont be able to read the cd..
3) Find the bnet loader.. This is probably the best option if you want to
continue using the patched version. There are a couple of sites you can get
this from, but I cant list them here for legal reasons.. Just email me.. Only
problem with this option is that the bnet loader doesnt work under wine (yet),
so get that if you are running windows and/or the one I'm about to list..
4) Linux-based bnet loader.. This was originally made by me, but since I lost
the computer that it was on, I dont have it anymore. If you know bash
scripting, I can tell you how to make it again, if not, you will need to find
someone that does, and have them email me, just ask around on the wine-devel
list.
My email is above this post (click or hover the mouse over my name), any other
comments or questions just email me, no need to flood the wine bugs list with
unrelated stuff..

Since 20030813, launching the "free" Microsoft Viewer in wine makes the
following thing happen:
1. Word Splash screen stays on screen
2. There are two wine processes
3. As shown with strace, the father segfaults over and over again (apparently,
the signal is being caught, that's why it doesn't exit)
4. The child takes up all remaining CPU (as shown by top), but doesn't do any
system calls (as shown by strace). An endless loop?
This has been experienced on a SuSE-9.0 system.
Last known working copy is wine-20030709-SL8.2
Known broken are the following wine-20030813 (8.2), wine-2003080911 (9.0),
wine-20031016 (8.2 and 9.0) show the problem [All tried on a SuSE-9.0 system,
the version number refers to the RPM. Oddly enough, the one does work
(20030709) is one that is intended for 8.2...)

Summary: Starcraft / Brood War B.Net version checking and
registry
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P3
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: cloud1086(a)hotmail.com
I am using Wine 20031016.
Sorry in advance if wine-misc is not the right category; it seemed to me to fit
several (wine-help, wine-directx, etc), so I put it in here.
First, when starcraft is installed, it plays an introduction movie on first run.
Following this, it is supposed to refrain from playing this movie unless
requested to do so on the in-game menu. I noticed that the movie played for the
first 3 or 4 times I loaded starcraft, then stopped playing (which is good, but
it should have only played once). I made no changes, either to config or file
permissions, during this time.
Next, the problem that's been bugging me the most - my inability to play online
on Battle.net. When I installed starcraft brood war, I downloaded BW-110.exe
(the latest v1.10 patch) and applied it successfully to the game. Re-running
the patch shows a game version of 1.10.0.1, and says it's already the newest
version.
However, when I try to log on to Battle.net, it says that it is unable to detect
my application version, and disconnects me. My real Brood War CD that I bought
accidentally got a huge scratch, so I am using my burned backup (I did buy the
StarCraft BattleChest and I have a real, non-revoked bnet cdkey). However, this
*shouldn't* be the problem, as I know many people who play with backup CDs.
Any suggestions, or is this a bug that needs to be fixed?
Thanks!

Summary: InternetCrackUrl incorrectly sets dwUrlPathLength
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: jan_lists(a)sporbeck-family.de
Hi,
During some application testing, we discovered that WinE does not correctly
mimic the WinINet function InternetCrackUrl. The real WinAPI sets the
dwUrlPathLength member of the URL_COMPONENTS structure to additionally hold
the extra info of the given URL if the extra info is not requested as a
separate component. Although this behaviour is not well documented by the
Win SDK, it is for instance implemented on WinXP, Win2000 and WinME and
therefore might be considered to be intended by Microsoft.
The following lines of code demonstrate the problem:
LPCTSTR lpszURL = _T("http://www.myserver.com/myscript.php?arg=1");
URL_COMPONENTS url;
// call 1: crack out url path and extra info
::ZeroMemory(&url, sizeof(url));
url.dwStructSize = sizeof(url);
url.dwHostNameLength = 1;
url.dwUrlPathLength = 1;
url.dwExtraInfoLength = 1;
::InternetCrackUrl(lpszURL, 0, 0, &url);
// dwUrlPathLength is 13, holding "/myscript.php"
// call 2: only crack out url path
::ZeroMemory(&url, sizeof(url));
url.dwStructSize = sizeof(url);
url.dwHostNameLength = 1;
url.dwUrlPathLength = 1;
::InternetCrackUrl(lpszURL, 0, 0, &url);
// now, dwUrlPathLength should be 19, holding "/myscript.php?arg=1",
// while WinE still sets it to 13
OK, it is of course no great deal to write code that correctly runs on real
Win systems and on WinE (2-3 lines did it). But programers who rely on this
behaviour will for example wonder why their applications don't transmit any
HTTP GET parameters when they call HttpOpenRequest with lpszObjectName set
to the URL path component returned by InternetCrackUrl...

Imagine I am a student which uses an University system. I will not be granted
for the "root" rights. Even if I choose an install in my home directory, the
install program will not complete just because I'm not root !
In my opinion, your install program discards some testers from the wine
community. Moreover, in the previous example, students could give you new
development forces.
You have to mean it as a feature enhancement:
"Offer user installation capability".

This is a well known bug - try running the games in Desktop mode, and see if
that helps.
Basically we are using override-redirect to remove window borders for fullscreen
apps, and this plays silly buggers with keyboard focus. The right way to do this
is to use EWMH/MWM hints to switch off the borders. I don't know why we don't do
that currently.

This is true for virtually every program a user compiles and installs. Almost
always the installation is done as root, and there are very few users that
actually audit the source first. We all go on the basis of our trust of the
source. Wine does not present present any special risks in this regard, and
there is no need to treat it differently from any other compiled program, and
long as it is always *executed* as a normal user.

However, if you want to run "ls -l" or generally a program with an arguemt, you
have to do a bit more since "gdb ls -l" does not work:

Do the same for wineinstall. If the program crashes, you will land on the gdb
console again. There you have to type "bt" for backtrace.
If everyting fails inside "make install", you would have to do:
$ gdb make

(gdb) set args install
(gdb) r

(gdb) bt

(gdb) quit
Provide the output of your debugging session.
Hope that helps, Alex.

fetch.exe, part of DigiGuide 6.1 [http://www.digiguide.com/] fails to run in

This bug happens every time I try to update DigiGuide, and has done from

working fine several months ago, but I don't know if this is a change in WINE or

I get the following console output:

In Delphi 7 menus are drawing in XP-like style, even in Win9x. It is done by (I
think) using WM_DRAWITEM and WM_MEASUREITEM messages.
In Wine (I used wersions from 2003-03 to 2003-10, with Win98, WinXP and Win2000
emulation mode) menus aren't displayed properly: they are too short (only two
items shows), and they doesn't have 'submenu marks'.
Steps to reproduce:
1.) Go to www.borland.com and get Delphi 7 Architect Trial, get the Key, and
install Delphi 7 on your machine
2.) Run Delphi 7
3.) Click the File menu.

Now that was strange; i disabled the video mode extension. From XF86Config-4(5x):
Option "DisableVidModeExtension" "boolean"
This disables the parts of the VidMode extension used by the
xvidtune client that can be used to change the video modes.
Default: the VidMode extension is enabled.
Not sure if that was the right thing, but i tried anyway and included:
Option "DisableVidModeExtension" "true"
Well, now something weird happened: The first time i started the program in
question (Marble Blast Demo) a window from the program actually appeared
(instead of that wine immediately dropped into the debugger) and complained
about some missing files; allright, that is something which is a problem of the
program and not of wine.
I tried again, then the error appeared again. The program never started again.
Weird, uh? Not reproducable. And dumb me didn't save the debugging information.
Is it worth trying to reproduce that behaviour?
Alex.

Yes, my X-Server does indeed support xv extensions, but i don't know, if my wine
is compiled with xv support (Debian unstable package, version 20030618). I
included the "UseXVidMode" statement, without success, same error.
How can i check if my version of wine supports xv? i grepped for xv in wine.bin

"--show-compileoptions" or so?
I will disable xv and see if it is working then.

wish to install Wine as a normal user, that's fine. But this is not a Wine bug.

I did not used your "tools/wineinstall" wizard since it required to be "root".
This is strongly not recommanded for an alpa release. Moreover, Windows programs
could then cause some security problems.
I think the installer do not need to require "root" rights. For example, I
created an "install" group on my system. This install group can modify the
"/usr/local" tree. Moreover, I could give rights by hand when "wineinstall" ask
for them.
As a fix, you could simply display a warning such as:
"Use root user for a simplier installation. Although you can install it by
giving the rights wine need by hand when they are required."

Windows 3.1 contained a bug which allowed a program to be slightly longer in one aspect than
assigned storage. This was corrected in Win. 95 and many programs would not run there as a
result. The bug was noted by IBM in OS/2 and fixed. This had the same effect as in 95.
Wine does not support this bug. Currently, a good many Win. 3.1 programs will not run
because of this. If a change is made, there must be a switch or other Win. 3.1 programs will
cease to run.

Actually its irrelevant what the format, and values are. The wsprintf does
never work correctly. Thus I don't think its a bug with wsprintf itself.
I wrote a test case and it worked. But it doesn't with SmartFTP.

Summary: wsprintf stack problem
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-user
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: mb(a)smartftp.com
This behavior can only reproduced with the SmartFTP developer build:
http://www.smartftp.com/get/SFTPDev.exe
wsprintfW("%ld", 1) produces something like "14000000" where 14000000 is a
pointer to a variable on the stack. This value is always the same for multiple
wsprintf calls in the same code part.
from the code in wsprintf.c
arg_val(buffer, INT) returns "the" pointer (14000000).
Replacing the wsprintfW function with sprintfW (msvcrt function) solves the
problem. (=> no stack corruption in SmartFTP)
My guess is that for some reason the wsprintf / arg_val function reads the
wrong values from the stack. Stack corruption could only happen within the
wsprintf function.

It seems the MS msvcrt gives exponents as Exxx(three digits), while glibc
sprintf (which wine msvcrt uses) gives exponents as Exx (two digits)
If applications rely on this behaviour, we have to implement the xsprintf

The call to sprintf (first line in NATIVE above) doesn't happen with the builtin

The error seem to be shown for the first time in the last line of BUILTIN above.
I have both logs (1.7MB compressed), but dont know were to submit them. I can
also provide the app I used, but not the SQLServer.
Get back to me if more info is needed.

Here is the simple, dumb, application I promised which should replicate that
wrong behavior. It is written in ACUCOBOL-GT by Acucorp (www.acucorp.com).
If you run it through wine (simply exec the Test.sh script that comes with the
archive, you may also need to modify the path to the application in the script.)
and then play with tabs a bit, you'll soon notice the problem.
Run the application on Windows for the correct/intended behavior indeed
(Test.bat will do the job here).
Unfortunately the runtime license will expire on Nevember 9, 2003 and the test
program will stop to work.
Regards.

Talk about user error ;-)
You're supposed to resolve that DLL version conflict yourself:
Either msvideo.dll/msvfw32.dll are mixed native/builtin (which cannot work due
to these thunking requirements), or you're using incompatible versions not able to
thunk down on each other.
I will probably make the error message more detailed, though...

Hi,
I'm sorry...I think this bug is not a new bug, I'm a newbie and don't speak
Englsih so It's for me very difficult to find something in the database. I don't
know if my problem is directly in link with the application which I'd like to
run or if it is because Wine don't support MIDI In. Sound applications which
runs under Linux are very poor!!...If you want use professional application, you
have to run it under Mac or Windows only. So, I'd like to run the Kontakt 1.2
sampler from Native Instrument (for Windows) throught Wine. The program start,
but when I set the Midi In settings to use an external midi Keyboard, Wine crash.
Before I post this message, I searched in the database and post on
www.linuxforum.com a new topic which can see at
http://www.linuxforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3902 you will find a
Screenshot.
Thanks a lot

For now, you can probably solve your problem by using native overrides for
ole32, oleaut32 and rpcrt4 - however, this is a long standing regression now
that needs to be solved. I don't have any installers locally at the moment that
show this issue though I've seen it before.

Anything happened here since?
I'm trying Wine 20030813, and the UPDATER.EXE still fails just like it have been
done in the last years. :-( Since I do not have windows at all it is pretty hard
to update the software of the GPS without the working serial support.

I have a dual-boot PentiumII with WinNt4 on a small partition and linux
RedHat7.3 on the rest. I have installed and used "QuickTax" on WinNT4 for two
years, would like to be able to run it under Wine (It's the last and now only
thing I need to run that works only on Win).
I copied the windows dir containing the quik2002 under my fake_windows C drive
so that it appears to be in the same place. I have its pre-req, IEXPLORE6,
installed and that works. I run quicktax like this:
cd /home/lumby/.wine/fake_windows/john/quik2002/qt2002;
wine "C:\\john\\quik2002\\QT2002\\qt2002.exe" >>/tmp/notes.lumby.log 2>&1
It comes up, tells me something about being unable to get Media Path, will
continue without MultiMedia, I click OK, it goes off for a bit, then dies here:

I have not seen any reference to Quicktax in the WineHQ lists, but noticed some
entries in the App database referring to Quicken, which is from the same stable,
which gives me some hope that maybe quicktax might work also. Any
suggestions? I can append all the config stuff here if needed, but I wil
mention that I've tried all kinds of alternative configs etc and it dies in the
same place every time. The only thing I have not tried that maybe I should
is running its installer under wine to reinstall it. That is awkward as in
theory quicktax won't let you install it more than once.

Sorry to make my comment regarding prelinking clear. I have already chstk'ed
wine but this did not permit my application to run (although some applications
would run - annoyingly the installer could be loaded but the full application
could not).
Disabling prelinking did allow my application to run. Thus I think we should add
a linker option to disable prelinked but this isn't the whole answer.

This problem is due to ELF prelinking being enabled on Fedora core.
The blunt axe workaround is to modify /etc/sysconfig/prelink to prevent
prelinking. Unfortunately this will slow down the loading of KDE, Mozilla and
OpenOffice pretty dramatically.
It should be possible to suppress the use of the prelinked bits and pieces
purely for wine. Sadly I don't know how!

May be wine use identical functions to handle midi device at some level, kind of

I'm using a WIN32 IDE which is using a makefile containing some "echo" commands.
However running this IDE on top of wine, I noticed that "echo" wasn't found as a
builtin command by wine, although it is a builtin for win32 dosboxes.
It shouldn't require much effort to add it to wine. I'd prefer to see it being
builtin into wine (consol) itself (thus not requiring a "echo.exe" somewhere in
my wine PATH). Of course a "so" solution is OK as well.
I don't know all the "builtin" commands for win32, but probably there are more
builtins that can be added to wine just as easily as "echo". I wouldn't know
which though...
To reproduce:
--
Box:~$ wine -- echo "hi"
/usr/bin/wine.bin: cannot find 'echo'
Wine failed with return code 2
Box:~$

While it would be ideal to point to a real solution, in the interim this text

Summary: WinMX 'browse' and 'WhoIs' windows don't jump to top
Product: Wine

Component: wine-programs

ReportedBy: ibboard(a)hotmail.com
I've just upgraded to the newest stable version of Wine so that WinMX didn't
crash when I tried to download a file, but there is still a tiny bug (it might
happen in other programs, I don't know).
Basically, if you open up a "browse" or "WhoIs" window, a smaller window (kinda
like a Javascript popup window for those who don't know WinMX) appears on top of
WinMX. When you click to WinMX and then click the button (similar to Mozilla's
webpage tabs) the WhoIs query should pop back up to the top and gain focus, but
at the moment it doesn't. The window still exists, it just involves moving the
WinMX window out of the way to get at the WhoIs query hiding below it.

Just a few more details that may be helpful:
The file was opened like this
myfile = fopen("myfile.txt", "r");
The file being read is a DOS formatted text file with CR-LF newlines. The last
two characters in the file are "\r\n".
Since this is running in a Win32 environment and it is not in binary mode, I
thought perhaps this could be a factor.

Summary: getc returns 0x000000FF instead of 0xFFFFFFFF (-1) for
EOF
Product: Wine
Version: 20030911
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-files
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: jbon(a)cfl.rr.com
A program I'm working on calls getc (which I assume maps to MSVCRT_getc). It
has been having problems detecting the EOF condition. It seems that the first
EOF indication comes as a 0x000000ff (255) instead of 0xffffffff (-1). This
causes the character 0xff to be processed as a real character. Strangely
enough, another call to getc_unlocked causes the proper value of 0xffffffff to
be returned, and the EOF is handled. Unfortunately this extra bogus character
breaks this program which is simply checking against EOF (-1).
while (1) {
int c;
c = getc_unlocked(myfile);
if (c == EOF)
break;
else
// process character
}
This behavior goes away when using the native Win98 msvcrt.dll. I've looked in
dlls/msvcrt/file.c for anything that could cause this, but everything in there
looked good. My hunch is that somewhere a character value of 0xff is getting
promoted to int without sign-extension, but I haven't seen this where I have looked.

Forgive me if this is a repeat
All errors were using RedHat 9 and wine 20030911 prebuilt rpm for redhat9 from
SourceForge. All dlls are 98se from http://www.drd.dyndns.org/. all errors are
created with WinMX and have been created again with Kazaa Lite 2.1 build 3
launcher kpp.exe.
When i am launching WinMX.exe (v 3.31) with no native dlls for the second time
wine hangs with the message
err:thunk:_loadthunk Unable to find thunk data 'Cctl1632_ThunkData16' in
commctrl.dll, required by comctl32.dll (conflicting/incorrect DLL versions !?).
err:thunk:_loadthunk Unable to find thunk data 'Cctl1632_ThunkData16' in
commctrl.dll, required by comctl32.dll (conflicting/incorrect DLL versions !?).
Then nothing happens. The cursor is positioned right below the second error
message. Breaking the command with Control-c will, without trouble, return to
prompt. This also happens when launching kpp.exe from the Kazaa Lite 2.1 ++
build 3 package.
The error was fixed but another was created when using the native ole32.dll from
a win98se distrobution. The following error occurs:
err:module:import_dll Loading module (file) ole32.dll (which is needed by
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\shell32.dll) failed (error c00000e5).
err:module:load_library can't load shell32.dll

Read the Wine Developers Guide on how to set up winedbg or another debugger
err:seh:EXC_DefaultHandling Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x5a98a
attempting to fix this with a native shell32.dll file will only give the next error:
err:module:import_dll Loading module (file) shell32.dll (which is needed by
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\comdlg32.dll) failed (error c00000e5).
err:module:load_library can't load comdlg32.dll

Read the Wine Developers Guide on how to set up winedbg or another debugger
err:seh:EXC_DefaultHandling Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x5a98a
adding the native comdlg32.dll will simply return the error:
err:module:import_dll Loading module (file) ole32.dll (which is needed by
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\shlwapi.dll) failed (error c00000e5).
err:module:load_library can't load shlwapi.dll

err:module:import_dll Loading module (file) comdlg32.dll (which is needed by

adding shwapi.dll will result in the final error message that i can not fix:

Is this using builtin or native richedit? IIRC our richedit control is nowhere
near fully implemented, you may need to either do some work on it, or use native
for now.

Try getting a backtrace using winedbg, also a +relay,+seh trace may be useful.
Really though you need to debug this one I think....

<Traxtopel> checking openssl/ssl.h presence... yes
<Traxtopel> checking for openssl/ssl.h... yes
<Traxtopel> configure:13973: checking for openssl/ssl.h
<Traxtopel> ac_cv_header_openssl_ssl_h=yes
<papineau> So in include/config.h, HAVE_OPENSSL_SSL_H is defined?
<Traxtopel> nope
<Traxtopel> #undef HAVE_OPENSSL_SSL_H
<papineau> config.h or config.h.in? It's supposed to be commented in config.h if
absent
<Traxtopel> sorry wrong by me
<Traxtopel> iys defined
<Traxtopel> I opened the template
<Traxtopel> #define HAVE_OPENSSL_SSL_H 1
<Traxtopel> thats in include/config.h
<papineau> So your openssl is detected and usable...
<Traxtopel> well, wine seems to think so
<Traxtopel> but something makes it bail out
<papineau> Next thing could be to try to compile cookie.c with -E rather than
-c, and check the output to verify what's the problem with kssl.h
<Traxtopel> where does cookie get compile from?
<papineau> dlls/wininet
<Traxtopel> ok got it
<papineau> Where's your krb5.h? /usr/kerberos/include/krb5h?
<Traxtopel> /usr/include/krb5.h
<papineau> That explains why mine is not found (bummer). It comes from package
krb5-devel?
<Traxtopel> yep
<Traxtopel> I guess I can symlink it
<papineau> The problem is not that it's not found
<papineau> Well, doesn't seem to.
<Traxtopel> can I add an extra path somewhere
<papineau> Your krb5.h is found, no need to add a path.
<Traxtopel> ah ok
<Traxtopel> misread what u said
<Traxtopel> I notice in redhat 9 it is in /usr/kerberos/
<papineau> In dlls/wininet, do make, then copy the gcc line while changing the
-c to -E and the output to cookie.i.
<Traxtopel> hmm I will need to restart it, I did a make clean
<papineau> You don't need everything, just a couple.
<papineau> Begin with dlls/wininet, it'll tell you what you need (probably
tools/wrc and libs)
<Traxtopel> ok let me look
<Traxtopel> ok that went clean
<Traxtopel> using th -E
<papineau> Ok.
<papineau> It's the result of the first pass of gcc, replacing all macros etc.
and before actually compiling anything.
<papineau> Open the output file and search for kssl.h
<Traxtopel> ah ok
<Traxtopel> typedef struct kssl_ctx_st

<Traxtopel>
<Traxtopel> krb5_error_code kssl_ctx_setstring(KSSL_CTX *kssl_ctx, int which,
char *text);
<Traxtopel> missed a bit
<papineau> What I want is the lines in cookie.o resulting from kssl.h being
included.
<papineau> There are no comments, no #define, no macros
<papineau> They all have already been processed
<Traxtopel> typedef struct kssl_err_st {
<Traxtopel> int reason;
<Traxtopel> char text[255 +1];
<Traxtopel> } KSSL_ERR;
<Traxtopel>
<Traxtopel>
<Traxtopel>
<Traxtopel>
<Traxtopel>
<Traxtopel>
<Traxtopel> typedef struct kssl_ctx_st
<Traxtopel> {

<Traxtopel> char *service_name;

<Traxtopel> krb5_error_code kssl_ctx_setstring(KSSL_CTX *kssl_ctx, int which,

<Traxtopel> KSSL_CTX *kssl_ctx_new(void);
<Traxtopel> KSSL_CTX *kssl_ctx_free(KSSL_CTX *kssl_ctx);
<Traxtopel> void kssl_ctx_show(KSSL_CTX *kssl_ctx);
<Traxtopel> krb5_error_code kssl_ctx_setprinc(KSSL_CTX *kssl_ctx, int which,
<Traxtopel> is that more like it?
<papineau> That's what I want to see, yes
<papineau> See the do_not_use_this_in_wine?
<Traxtopel> ah yes
<Traxtopel> so something with krb5_octet
<papineau> It's the definition of FAR, because one of the wine headers defined
it that way
<papineau> So there's an incompatibilty between your version of ssl with
kerberos and wine
<Traxtopel> and if I disable the krb5_octet in the header
<Traxtopel> or all of them
<papineau> Resolution could involve passing --without-ssl to wine's ./configure,
or defining OPENSSL_NO_KRB5
<papineau> The problem is not with krb5_octet per see, but with a keyword used
by ssl w/ krb5 which Wine forbids
<Traxtopel> do u want the bugzilla number to add the info to
<papineau> Go ahead
<Traxtopel> it uses its owns methods
<Traxtopel> one sec
<Traxtopel> http://bugs.winehq.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1752
<Traxtopel> 1752
<Traxtopel> ok, thanks you have been a great help
<papineau> The final resolution will probably involve either an #undef FAR just
before including ssl.h in cookie.c (you can try that right away) (but that's a
hack), or
<Traxtopel> ok I will try it
<papineau> getting openssl kerberos to not use FAR at all
<Traxtopel> first I will see if wine compiles/works without ssl
<Traxtopel> hehe
<papineau> Good luck!
