Game-save screenshots - left = created on windows, right = Wine
Every time Vietcong game creates new game save (psg file), it also creates
in-game screenshot of what scene game currently render on screen. This
screenshot is part of the psg file. In main menu, game shows screenshot of
selected game save (as a thumbnail). On native Windows, these screenshots are
created relative nice (but they are low quality/compressed pictures), while on
Wine they have always corrupted colors.
It is not problem of showing these screenshots (since I tried in Wine to load
game save created on Windows, which had nice thumbnail), but they are being
created corrupted. I have not looked into this bug deeply yet, so I do not know
which API game uses to create these screens.
This bug is in Wine probably for very long time, maybe since beginning. There
is nothing special in the Wine log.

The game I'm trying to install is Pizza Syndicate from a German coverdisc that
can be found here: https://archive.org/details/computer-bild-spiele-2001-09
It's a 16bit InstsallShield 5 installer. My Wine version is 9.0 multilib self
compiled from the .tar.xz without any patches on both Fedora KDE 40 and Kubuntu
24.04. On Kubuntu the installer loads, the wizard starts and the installation
can be finished.
On Fedora 40 the installer starts up and loads/begins preparing the wizard but
gets stuck at 99% indefinitely.
The only notable/unusual log output I get are the following line:
0114:err:sync:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 009A0078
"../source/dlls/ntdll/heap.c: heap.cs" wait timed out in thread 0114, blocked
by 0118, retrying (60 sec)
that continues to be printed every 60 seconds.
After a bit of googling I found a very old thread about a other case of
RtlpWaitForCriticalSection which talked about it probably being a problem with
a syscall (glibc or something?) and that seems to fit as it works on one distro
but not the other.
That's sadly as far as I could get diagnosing this with my limited knowledge.

tried downloading the stable, dev, and staging packages. was able to

Latest version of this software loads but errors when trying to import radar
data.
Shared the attached backtrace with the software developer and he responded:
The problem is here:
0x0043a534 gr2analyst+0x3a534: ldsl %eax,%esi
Which is trying to load a full 48-bit pointer into segment:register from a
memory location. Win32 programs aren't allowed to mess with their segment
registers.
I don't see that code anywhere in my asm listing files, so there are two
possibilities:
1. The stack is getting corrupted and the return address from a function call
is trashed, so the program tries to execute junk (which happens to be the LDS
instruction). Of course, the question is "why doesn't this happen on real
Windows"?
2. WINE has a bug that trashes the stack.

LineMediaPlayer.exe is used to display images and videos in LINE. After a
recent upgrade, the player no longer works, showing an error about missing
msvcp140_2.dll.__std_smf_cyl_bessel_i (see logs)
Steps to reproduce:
1. Download and install https://desktop.line-scdn.net/win/new/LineInst.exe -
it's linked from https://line.me/ when using a Windows User-Agent header.
2. Try to run LineMediaPlayer.exe (ex: wine
/home/user/.local/share/wine/drive_c/users/user/AppData/Local/LINE/Data/plugin/LineMediaPlayer/1.2.0.545/LineMediaPlayer.exe)
Here 1.2.0.545 is the currently installed version of LineMediaPlayer. You may
need to change the version to the latest one if there are updates.
Investigation:
In Microsoft STL, __std_smf_cyl_bessel_i calls boost::math::cyl_bessel_i [1].
C++17 provides std::cyl_bessel_i. I'm not sure if it's feasible to use that in
a C project like Wine. Even if C++ is allowed, I assume a version requirement
like C++17 is still an issue.

3DS Max 2024 wasn't launching without pasting bs.odis dlls to system32 folder,

Wine/Proton users have not been able to use "Fast" update type on BeamNG.drive.

After reporting the lack of IDirectInputEffect::Start calls on Wine to
BeamNG.drive, it seems that they will be force issuing ::Start once after
::CreateEffect in a future update, regardless of the output of
::GetEffectStatus, if the change does not break other wheels on windows.
Discussing the issue further with BeamNG.drive developer stenyak on discord,
with "Fast" update type for force feedback, current release of BeamNG.drive
seems to always query effect status using ::GetEffectStatus, and would only
issue ::Start if the effect is not playing.
If my tracing is correct,

always emits effect playing report on hid because on Linux, SDL does not
support SDL_HAPTIC_STATUS.
Due to ::GetEffectStatus flagging effect playing falsely, ::Start is never

While BeamNG.drive seems to be quite open to doing small fixes to help players
on Wine/Proton as long as it does not break on windows, is there anything that
could be change on this end to make it less confusing for applications that
relies on ::GetEffectStatus going forward?

gtkmm hello world tarball
So I tried the gtkmm hello world program:

and I put it in a tarball (Attached.)
Anyway, I cross-compiled it with mingw and it runs fine in a windows VM.
When I run it with wine though, it crashes -- which is surprising because the
program does so little!
I ran it with GDK_DEBUG=all and I can see that it's crashing on the showing of
a window.
I guess I should mention that I'm running this in an Xorg session, and not
Wayland.
Anyway, I'm running wine 2.8 as provided by Fedora 25.

Archive containing the configure, make dep and make output in 2 files
The issue arises while building Wine 5.10 on 32 bit Slackware. Both Slackware
14.2 stable and current (15.0 beta) are affected while The 64 bit version
builds just fine.
The build procedure exits badly while linking ntdll.so, returning errors like:

The file we need to load is in the Windows working directory, not in the

Trimmed bug report. Frame Sync failed repeated indefinitely (but file size was
125 MB), so I erased most of those lines.
Wine screen freezes when playing certain audio files. It seems to be either
non-MPEG2 files or audio files that don't conform to 24k bps or 22050 Hz (any
audio under this classification seems to be fine).
The specific audio file that was used to replicate the crash was: MPEG 2.5 / 8k
bps / 8000 Hz. I've tested out other Wine versions, and Wine Stable 3.0 has the
same error, along Wine Staging 3.6, 3.7, 3.8.
However, if you use Wine 2.22 or Wine 1.4.1, the app runs fine and doesn't
freeze at these sound effects.

In recent Telltale games (Walking Dead Season 2, Tales from the Borderlands)
resizing the display leads to some areas of the screen becoming hidden.
The games start in 1024x768 resolution by default, if you change that in the
game settings to, for instance, match your desktop resolution then you end up
with a 1024x768 panel showing the top left of game in the middle of a
blank/broken area. It is possible to interact with things outside the 1024x768
panel but you have to guess where they are.
I've attached a screenshot of the issue on my 1366x768 laptop.
This doesn't happen with The Walking Dead Season 1 so I assume this is some
update that Telltale have made to their game engine which is now broken in
WINE.

Results
After 10-60 seconds the system freezes and inputs from the mouse and keyboard
do nothing (the mouse cursor will still move around, but it does not interact
with anything). If I have a video or music playing in the background, they will
continue to play normally untill either I press and hold power button to turn
off my computer or my computer restarts from "something unexpected" occurring.

When running `winetricks dotnet40` on Wine Staging, the installation fails with
the following error:

Under Fedora Linux 40, using KDE Plasma 6 as the graphical environment, Wine
seems to work apparently well but in certain conditions the application crashes
and a SIGABRT signal is generated with the consequence that sometimes the
entire system crashes forcing the system to be rebooted with CTRL ALT DEL. This
bug appeared when Battlezone 98 was set to run on software, not hardware. This
bug is already listed as #956024 on Bugzilla and is reported here for the
record. In the attached file the information obtained from Abrt.

Hello,
I have an issue with wine when I use it on FL Studio (x64), I can't play any of
the wav files with the program. I tried many things in order to get it working
but I'm no wine expert.
Launching FL Studio in a terminal doesn't give me a lot more information, but
it seems like it is a system-wide issue since I tried to play a wav directly
with wine (and a windows soft called Gspot) and it doesn't work indeed I've got
a "unable to render the audio" issue.
Also if I try to open a media file (mp3 or wav, I did not test other formats)
with foobar2000 it doesn't work. Error "Unrecoverable playback error: Audio
data format not supported by this device (0x88780064)" while playing a wav
file.
Anyone has any clues on how to troubleshoot this issue? I file this as a bug
but maybe there is a codec issue or something.
