--- Comment #1 from Andrew Nguyen arethusa26@gmail.com 2010-09-19 19:32:29 CDT --- I fail to see how this is an issue with Wine itself rather than a packaging issue with your distribution.

Conflict between WINE V1.01 and VLC (version 0.9.4 Grishenko).
These are the versions which apt-get installs for my version of UbuntuEEE.
Depending on the order of installation, the problems which occur can vary:
a. Inability of Browse C: drive in WINE
Wine doesn't provide a "Browse C: drive", and it sounds like something the Ubuntu package of Wine provides.
b. WINE (i.e., EXE files) that have been installed using winecfg do not show uo in the drop down submenu from Applications, WINE drop-down menu (using GNOME desktop).
I can't particularly comment on this, but note that the latest stable version of Wine is 1.2 and the latest development version is 1.3.3.
c. The worst case: clicking on Browse C: drive gets interpreted as a VLC Playlist, whereupon VLC goes completely haywire, trying to "play" various DLLs and such.
Again, it sounds like an issue outside of the scope of Wine, and it should be reported to your distribution.
